United complete pre-season schedule

Get to work!
Get to work!
With the World Cup not really affording us much of a break from football, the news that our pre-season campaign has been finalised feels a bit like overkill at the moment.

However we have at least gone about arranging fixtures early this year giving us a structure to pre-season and allowing fans around the world to be able to plan early if they wish to see Newcastle, especially fans in Germany or further afield in New Zealand.

For fans on Tyneside there is just one home pre-season friendly to consider with the most recently announced visit of Real Sociedad taking place on Sunday 10th August. If you fancy an away day before the season then you can always take a trip to Oldham (Tuesday 15th July), Sheffield Wednesday (Wednesday 30th July) or Huddersfield (Tuesday 5th August) but for any of the others you’re going to need a passport at the very least.

That’s because we play two games in New Zealand against Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix (Tuesday 22nd July and Sunday 26th July respectively) before taking part in a four team tournament in Gelsenkirchen where we’ll play two teams from West ham, Shalke and Malaga on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August. The full fixture list is as follows.

Date Opposition Kick-off (local time) Venue
Tuesday 15th July Oldham 7:30pm Boundary Park
Tuesday 22nd July Sydney FC 7:30pm Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
Sunday 26th July Wellington Phoenix 4:30pm Westpac Stadium, Wellington
Wednesday 30th July Sheffield Wednesday 7:45pm Hillsborough
Sat 2nd/Sun 3rd August Schalke/Malaga/West Ham TBC VELTINS-Arena, Gelsenkirchen
Tuesday 5th August Huddersfield 7:45pm John Smith’s Stadium
Sunday 10th August Real Sociedad 1:30pm St James’ Park

Please note that all kick-off times are local time so whatever times are decided for our two games in Germany just take an hour off and you’ll have the UK kick-off time which is easy enough but for the two games in New Zealand please bear in mind that they are 11 hours ahead of us so kick-off times here in the UK will be 8:30am and 5:30am respectively.

However there is a long way to go until pre-season and there are still many issues to sort out. In terms of United we have a huge strengthening task on our hands which will keep people occupied but on the grander scale there is the World Cup which is now just 19 days away. You can have a World Cup free bet if you fancy it and feel like getting in the mood by clicking on the link.

Keep this safe. Thanks for reading!

  1. Toonsy you might find that the game in Wellington takes place on Saturday 26th mate.

    I’ll be there 😉 HWTL

  2. I cant understand why Pardew would want too sell Mapou instead of giving him a chance in his proper position , where he excelled next too Williamson when Colo was injured . Oh hang on a minute its Pardew ,now the season has been finished for a couple of weeks i nearly forgot how Feckless the idiot is . I wonder which country we will be plundering next once all the Frenchies are sold .

      (Quote)

  3. MUNICH MAG do you need a club card in Germany too buy tickets for a game ? i was thinking of driving to Gelsenkirchen too watch the lads in August but here in Holland you need a club card too buy tickets .

      (Quote)

  4. Well that could be true BIG DAVE after all he has been played out of position most games and did not look half the player he did at CB . It probably cost him a ticket too Brazil .

      (Quote)

  5. I agree, I would be disappointed to see Mbiwa leave, thought he had the making of a decent CB and deserved more time there. It may all be **** about him leaving anyway.

      (Quote)

  6. I hope so KIMTOON the lad is a better CB than Taylor and the Williamson ,Colo combination is hardly rock solid . For me Willo ,Mbiwa had the makings of the best CB pairing since Sir Bobbys time in charge .

      (Quote)

  7. So if we are to believe the papers Mapou and Haidara are up for sale and Sissoko wants to leave.
Suddenly that 5 man French recruit didn’t work out so well then, coz ill be honest, I don’t see Debuchy sticking round long now his pal is sat on PSGs bench.

The papers also link us with a loan move for Kalas from Chelsea. So we sell Mapou and loan Kalas – now that sounds more like a NUFC transfer window to me.

      (Quote)

  8. Kim- It makes no sense whatsoever selling MYM. I thought he was suppose to be Colocini’s future replacement ? He did well against Chelsea and Spur’s then gets dropped. Pardew is an awful manager if he can’t see his potential. Oh wait his on to much money! We can find someone cheaper. I’m the stupid one Mike.

      (Quote)

  9. Sharpy17- Dont worry mate. It would take a big offer for Mike to sale Debuchy. A big offer. We still have Steven Taylor and Williamson to hold the fort 😐

      (Quote)

  10. G2 hope your scouting in Burundi going well mate. Hopefully in a year or two Mike will treble his investment.

      (Quote)

  11. I see Leicester have already snapped up Albrighton on a free.

Terry – it’s not the money I’m worried about mate. It’s if Debuchys head is turned like Cabayes was, plus with us getting rid of a load of the French lads – will he start playing silly buggers like Cabaye did.

      (Quote)

  12. Albrightons a decent player for them surprised Villa let him leave with them stuck in limbo.

Albrighton, Upson and Charltons reserve keeper not the sort of signings to help Leicesters assualt on the champions league spots mind.

      (Quote)

  13. CC your right that they are not the players to get them a CL spot but they will help them avoid relegation straight after coming up . They know what the Premiership is all about .

      (Quote)

  14. Wow, we’ve actually managed to organise a successful pre season for the first time in three or four years. The five year plan is finally coming to fruition 😛

      (Quote)

  15. Wow! 😯

Aussie is getting a hammering today. 😛

I’ve been away for a bit and when I return nothing has changed. 😛

As per normal Aussie misses the point. No one is calling Shola or blaming him but Aussie interprets it that way. 🙄

All we are saying is, the club have set low standards by retaining his services. He should have been shown the door years ago and we might have improved as a squad.

Ice & Dave are right. He just doesn’t get it. 😛 😛

  16. ****! Droopy fucking dog back to the Prem. I can’t stand that guy.

      (Quote)

  17. I will be very curious to see how Charlie Austin fares up in the top tier, though. I thought we should go after him and/or a few of the top scorers in the Championship. I think those guys are underrated because they’re downstairs.

      (Quote)

  18. FSOTC: i would prefer we go for Will Hughes now that they ain’t promoting.

  19. Thank god for that, Its been a long year not having tony fernandes being interviewed on every football related programme on TV or radio 🙄

      (Quote)

  20. Well the press, sky and media in general will be over the moon to have Arry back in the PL fold 🙄

Doubtless we’ll have endless footage of floppy chops with his head hanging out his car window on deadline day 😉

  21. Kim

Did you note the Harry Houdini comment on the final whistle like hed done it all with his tactical mastery. With the respective resources Burnley shouldnt have got within two dozen points of them

      (Quote)

  22. CC,yeah I did mate, like I said earlier he’s the luckiest manager out there. Derby were by far the better team today, but it only takes one lucky break and it fell to QPR. No doubt that’s another club Pards will be reminding us we can’t compete with.

      (Quote)

  23. On the bright side QPR (and Leicester) are usually generous in boosting our points tally.

Were finally rid of Fulham; Another of our pain in the **** clubs that always beat us at their place. Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn, Reading as well in recent years.

      (Quote)

  25. Pardew is in love with Coloccini. He is stopping MYM, whenever Colo is fit, he plays, regardless of form. Colo needs to go.

Willo is safe. His game is all positioning, headers and physicality and none of those leave with age so – in theory – his age shouldn’t be as much an issue.

      (Quote)

  26. FUNKY JESUS i agree , it would be of been better if Colo had gone back too Argentina and let MYM form a partnership with Willo , they complement each other much better . MYM has the pace to cover willo’s lack of , but willo is as you say safe and i think would make a good captain .

      (Quote)

  27. axel you should buy a ticket for the schalke game beforehand to be on the safe side mate.

      (Quote)

  28. Looking at this athletico team, we could really do with a few defender who are good in the air. We are so lacklustre from attacking set pieces. A few big boys who can actually make us dangerous in the penalty area would be huge, rather than lump it to willo who doesnt know what to do.

      (Quote)

‘ST thats trying to make the stats work in your favour, a bit like KK tries.
I am 99% sure that he hasnt scored even 50 out of them 219 starts im on my phone so I couldnt check but im sure it will be down there some where.’

There is nothing wrong with making a stat work in your favour – i you’ve got a better stat use it.

“Since Pardew has been here, we have strengthened our squad more than Everton & Atletico Madrid ”
That is without a doubt the most bollocks statement ever posted on this blog., and there’s been many! 😆

Still waiting for the apology 🙄

That is unless you cannot admit you were wrong or have another excuse lined up 🙄 🙄

      (Quote)

  31. @troy
You’re not off the hook either but no doubt you’re almost as slimy as Pardew. 😯

    Let’s look at your quotes:

Did you ever get back to me about your ridiculous comments regarding us not performing better than Athletico despite us recruiting more since Pards arrived?

If you could explain that statement and try to make it understandle and believable I will doff my cap to you sir!

A simple apology, a doff of your hat & the abandonment of you pro Pardew policy will do.

      (Quote)

  32. It just goes to show how good a team can be with the right manager.

The manager doesn’t have to be worldclass, he just needs to be someone who the players will fight for & someone who has some intelligence (like those middle class kids) 🙄

I’m looking forward to next season, i look forward to every season & we have some very good players in the squad regardless of the management.

The squad needs to be strengthened, the manager & coaches need to be replaced but otherwise we’ll have a good season.

    Re Shola
Despite people giving him stick – it’s true he isn’t a prolific goalscorer but he did create around the same number of chances as Cabaye.

So, no not a goalscorer but he did contribute to the team just as much as everyone else.

He was wasted playing for us in the premier league, he should have gone abroad just as Steve Harper should have left us when he wasn’t first choice.

I’m convince Harper could have been an England regular had he not stuck around with us.

  33. Hy guys, its been a long time since my last post. ***** season for many obvious reasons. For me this summer, Im dont think well be able to get Grenier and Lacazette as they’ll leave OL for European Club or stay, but Cabella would be affordable (Id even give them MYM back) but with Chelsea wanting him, It will be tough. we have 3 transferts window options id like to see

    Option1:
Sign Lazio’s Stefan Radu(tough defender LB/CB), Siem de Jong(CM,ACM,ST), Danny Ings to replace Rémy(ST/LW:9.5), Gomis(or Rhodes or Lasogga), Forster(if Krul leaves), bring back Tavernier to replace Debuchy, Abeid Good and Jonas. And use connections with Rotterham to sign Ben Pringle( quality talent quality left foot and Geordie, LM, MO, MC, RM, give them Fergie and Vuckic and cash).

Sell Saylor Mapou Hba Marvo Obertan, Sissoko if he wants to leave, Santon if £10M offer comes, Debuchy( think its already done), Krul if wants to leave, Cissé(or next January).
Play 442:(433 as second option, 352 for big away games)
    GK
    Tavernier Williamson Coloccini Radu
Jonas Siem de Jong Tioté Sameobi
    Ings Gomis

Tavernier to go foward and create, Jonas(to play short, smart, hard to cover Tavenier) and work hard on right, de Jong as playmaker, Sammy Ameobi or Pringle LM to bring skills and crosses. Danny Ings as danger man( Bellamy Type of player) with speed and skills, Gomis to play creates chances as target man for him and for others( He is unselfish and plays for team, not esp my 1st choice, but think he’d a good move), Radu to cover Ameobi and Coloccini as more defensive full back than Tavs to create balance. And give Set Piece to a quality taker(Pringle or Raylor), as I that even if we lack imagination on set piece, the cross has to be dangerous to handle to adverse team. And with Radu, de Jong, Gomis (eventually Shawcross), with Colo and Willo, we have more big bodies which is a good thing.

Bench with Woodman, Good, Haidara(if stays)/ Raylor, Abeid, Pringle, Ayoze, Gouffran on bench and
Anita(has to win back his spot, a DM option if Tioté goes ACN, or sell him and replace by a Sidwell to bring experience as backup) , Alnwick, Satka, Mbabu, Dummett(or loan), Kemen, Armstrong, Campbell(or loan) as backups, loan Bigirimana

2nd Option: Sign same players, but Shawcross instead of Radu, Haidara LB, Dummett backup, Willo on bench, Tavernier Shawcross Coloccini Haidara in defense

3rd Option: Same signings, but Shawcross and Radu, and we’ll have Tavernier Shawcross Coloccini Radu as back4 (unlikely, but would be a top defense potentially).

4th Option: If we cant get S. de Jong or than n10, Id like a tall CM, like Rodwell, and a player like

Pardew has to show courage, be a bit more positive, try to play on the ground, or use direct style smarty by create movement around Gomis, and maybe Im wrong but, that could be a good team. For Mike Ashley, I think after 2nd half of season, he realised he had no other choice to invest a little bit. And dont forget that Cabaye had clause making him able to buyout his contract for £6M if I remember well) And we need more balance in scouting network. We excepted too much from Ligue1 players wich aint same standards as PL.

I want to see us play for top8(-10) or more(Europe), play good football, win Derbys, runs on cup (May not be a priority, but still think that players were responsable vs Cardiff as a good enough squad was fielded.), and if that transfert window is made, Id accept 1 or 2 new signings per seasons, as long as we sell our best players for insane money, and keep bring 1 or 2 youngsters each season. At the end of the day, we need to keep consistently top8/10 to bring stability on long term like Everton and Spurs did since start of our downfall back in 2004. If Pardew struggle this time, I think he’ll get the sack as he would have been backed for once.

Respectfully, hope this time we wont be disappointed.

  34. If Gomis Ings, Armstong, Ayoze aint enough, Siem de Jong can play uprfont as Trequartista

  35. Sharpy17- Sorry for the late reply mate. I’m just waiting for Alan to say it will take a ridiculous amount of money to sign him ( Debuchy or MYM). For sure everything’s come up rose’s for Mike Ashley financially. He might even go down the loan route again. Hopefully this is a sign of him making a quick buck before he sales.

      (Quote)

  36. G2 Alan’s going with Perez and Armstrong up front next season. It’s time to step up and be counted time.

      (Quote)

  37. So, it looks like Chelsea are interested in for Cabella and Montpellier want £11m which NUFC won’t pay! Is that unbelievable of what? Prepared to pay £8m but not £11m…

We are going to get totally stitched up this summer. We have let 9 go albeit some where young players and we aren’t going to replace them all.

Clubs know we are desperate for players due to our pathetic transfer policies over the last 18 months. This is where this policy of accounting for every single penny falls down. We are now in a position where we must over spend to just stay still or risk relegation.

We need a regime who can run a football club like a football club.

    Such a ****** mess!!!!

  38. Strange how it appeared in the press that HBA, Mapou and Haidara are up for sale. Very odd until I remembered watching a game on line (think Stoke) and they were all on the bench. The camera picked up all three. HBA was hiding his mouth with a shinpad and the other two shielding their mouth with a hand and all 3 laughing their heads off. They were laughing at De Jong trying to control the ball but falling over and then Shola shinning a 25 yarder straight at the goalie. Thought nothing at the time except wor Alan won’t like that when he reviews the footage.

      (Quote)

  39. Cholo,

Glad that worked for you in football manager mate. But in real life, that’s a ***** team.

      (Quote)

  40. Well i dont know why we are all worrying , i have just read in various reports that Pardew is going too convince Ashley too push the boat out with the mega signing of……….STEVE SIDWELL ….he’s out of contract and only 31 years old . Now i understand why we flogged Cabaye and did not buy his replacement straight away , Pards was waiting untill his first choice ran down his contract . CL here we come 😯 🙄 😕

      (Quote)

  41. Let’s not get all hysterical over bullshit paper stories.. ffs, you are getting wound up over things that are 99.9% bullshit! Calm down, calm down! 😛

      (Quote)

  42. TERRY@123 dont forget we have Campbell coming back from his loan stint too add too those 2 as well . Maybe those 3 young guns and one signing is the way Pards will go next season . The signing being Bent , it would explain why Pards wanted Shola for another season .

      (Quote)

  43. AMF the sad thing is this one might not be bullshit Pards has always admired Sidwell ever since giving him his prof debut at Reading . He’s free and wont command a huge wage , he tried too sign him before he went too Fulham .

      (Quote)

  44. Axel, even if we do sign Sidwell as you alude to, he is hardly going to be a key signing and signed in place of an already selected target! Sidwell knows that no matter what team he signs for, he is not going to be regular starter! Maybe a newly promoted team may start him if they chase after his signature! 😕

      (Quote)

  45. I would have no problem signing Sidwell on a free, he would serve us admirably for a couple of years. He gets stuck in, never hides, can play a bit and scores a few goals.

and will cost 30 bob and a box of bovril crisps…

seriously though, I’d have him as a squad player who could most definitely be an impact sub..

      (Quote)

  46. Id expect the Sidwell link to be quashed by the locals soon enough, like Bent, Weiman and Delph were.

      (Quote)

  47. Just bear with this one AMF we are now linked with Sidwell on a free and Colback on a free from Sunderland . Both with a lot of premiership games under their belt . We let Marveaux HBA and Obertan leave . Ashley has then paid nothing in transfer fees and got money back for the 3 french lads who have hardly played all season . Ashley pleased as a little kid in a sweet shop and we have players that will be used . Welcome to NUFC anno 2014 .I am telling you this rumour is not so whacky as most .

      (Quote)

  48. why would we sign Sidwell when we have Abeid, Sissoko, Anita and Tiote??
Never really rated him. weak-mans S Parker..

      (Quote)

  49. Axel@138, Ashley didn’t become a gazillionaire by being a daft lad.

In Pardew we trust, if he doesn’t deem HBA good enough then that’s all right with me…

      (Quote)

  50. MARK the club that had Abeid on loan want too buy him ,i think it would be a mistake on our part after the rave revieuw’s he has had not too give him a go in pre season ,but every player has his price under Ashley . Also Sissoko’s agent is starting to make noises about him open too leaving and Anita is just not strong enough for the premier League as skillfull a player as he is .

      (Quote)

  51. MUNICH MAG thats the trouble with HBA he is skillfull enough but has just not bought into Pards work ethic . Their was obviously some harsh words exchanged and not just with Pards but with team mates as well .All said and done he is the first of the purples out the door ,one the one hand a massive shame on the other if he aint going to put the graft in then he needs too go and the same with Marveaux ,apparently he is a lazy sod in training .

      (Quote)

  52. Fucking Sidwell?????!!!!!!!

Chelsea now in for Cabella – yip, it’s a typical NUFC transfer window so far.

Though I’m sure someone is going to come on and tell me that it’s still early days or that it’s all paper talk. Stay patient and keep faith 🙄

      (Quote)

  53. Are nufc the only club on earth who, despite the fact that PL revenues have gone through the roof don’t think player values will have risen too?

      (Quote)

  54. Axel- My friend wanted to bet me a fiver that Newcastle would get relegated next season mate. I refused the bet because it’s looking pretty grim for us. I forgot about Campbell but I hope his drastically improved 😐 Couldn’t have Ashley paying the going rates now can we ?

      (Quote)

  55. Mike’s greed will be the clubs downfall next season. It could even back fire on him ?

      (Quote)

  56. Stu – I don’t even think its that mate. Apparently we bid £6m for Cabella and would be prepared to increase it to £8m. Montpellier apparently want £11m for the lad – I personally don’t think that Cabellas value is inflated at £11m. I do however think that a bid of £6m is an absolute **** take!.

      (Quote)

  57. Apparently Cabella’s dad has already had several meetings with Atletico. I don’t think this one will happen and it’s much more likely that Grenier is our real target (if there is one at all). Grenier for me!

      (Quote)

  58. Georgio – I personally preferred Grenier ahead of Cabella anyway, especially as we were after Gomis and the 2 played alongside each other for Lyon so may already have an understanding.
But to be honest, I’d rather we were after someone like Townsend or someone with PL experience.
I know he’s had a couple of nothing seasons but Saints are after Scott Sinclair for £3m – for me that’s little to no risk based on what he did at Swansea – wage dependant.
I still think Tom Ince for nowt is no risk either.

      (Quote)

  59. SHARPY i read that Tom Ince has knocked Inter Milan back and is going to Monaco . I would love us too sign Townsend put really cant see it happening .
