How do you feel about our two new signings?

Colback - Changing colours
Colback – Changing colours
So we’ve signed two players, on permanent deals. Bring out the banners and stop the press! This kind of things doesn’t happen often.

Ayoze Perez has joined us from Tenerife whilst Jack Colback has joined us from our bitter rivals on Wearside, with rather amusing reactions from those of a red and white persuasion as a result.

To be honest I can’t really knock the Colback transfer. We picked him up for nowt and he’s a tidy player. Nothing spectacular and certainly no replacement for Yohan Cabaye, but he’ll do a job and despite his time spent at Sunderland, he is actually a United fan so he’ll give his all for us and at least we’ll have one player in our ranks who knows what it means to play in a Tyne-Wear derby!

Speaking of which, many fans have reservations about him purely because of his reaction after recent derby victories for Sunderland. I suggest people get over it and realise that he was just doing a job for the club who actually gave him a breakthrough in the Premier League. Alan Shearer celebrated enough goals against us before he joined us which is worth pointing out. He was just doing his job.

I can’t really comment on Perez as I can’t say my personal knowledge of the Spanish second division is up there with the best. He sounds like a decent enough prospect though but we don’t exactly have a great record of developing prospects do we? Plus he is said to be small, technical and pacey, which isn’t the kind of player that Pardew seems to like. He’s not even a left-back for goodness sake!

So back to my original question. How do I feel about these two new signings. Uninspired I guess. Yes we need our squad building but that is through the neglect from the past few transfer windows, but we also need our first team strengthened and whilst Colback may strengthen it overall, I’d like to think we have our eyes on better players to plug those gaps in the first team.

I’m in danger of sounding like I’m clamouring for superstar signings. I’m not. But I do want the first team strengthened and for me neither of these should be doing that.

That is why I’m underwhelmed…

  1. ICEDOG for me he has no command of his area ,i know our defence is **** but he flaps far too much and his distribution is not all that as well . I see no improvement in him in the last couple of seasons and i dont think it will come now .The 10 million that is being bandied about is imo more than he is worth and if we could get Forster back for half that i would say good deal done .

      (Quote)

  2. Axel that would be an awful deal.

Andros Townsend most predictable inconsistent winger in the league. He was ***** for spurs after that first initial burst onto the scene. He would give about 5 good games a year. Do we really need a ******* Ben Arfa. Adds nothing to the team apart from being English.

For our best Keeper and one of the best keepers in the League. Who is still young (in GK terms). Then we would have to replace him as well.

Im glad its just a terrible made up story.

  3. Gomis officially has signed for Swansea. He will be a good player but if you were to believe some of the rumors about his wage/signing on fee then i think its a good move for us to steer clear.

  4. SANTII,be fair to Townsend the the lad did a canny job for spurs,of coarse he fell away that was down to spurs pushin the lad to play when he was carrying a injury because Lennon was out, ended up the lad had to have a opp and miss WC,I think you have judged the lad unfairly,Ime not saying the lad is a world beater, but your judgement is a poor one

      (Quote)

  5. Ice – that’s true about Townsend, but I also think it was a case that teams spotted he was a threat and doubled up on him. The same happens with Benny for us. Both players need to develop their game and play more with their heads up. Learn when to pass and when to go on a run. Personally, I’d love to see Townsend and Benny playing off a Lukaku type CF.

As for Krul, I know he has his faults and £10m is probably good money for him. But I really like the lad, I’d love for us to keep him.

As for Gomis. I’m ****** off we didn’t get that deal done personally. The lad scores goals and I reckon he’s exactly the type of CF we need. Money wise – we paid £2m to loan Remy, so that’s Gomis signing on fee. Wages wise Gomis wanted around 70k a week – my understanding is that’s about the amount we paid Remy, so there’s no great difference – other than at least we’d own Gomis.

      (Quote)

  6. Sharpy17 I bet Gomis gets a goal against us next season. We haven’t even got Shola anymore. Just cheap **** that Mike can afford.

      (Quote)

  7. Gomis wanted a 4 yr deal too plus £100k/wk ontop of his £2M signing fee plus his agents fee.
We made a good offer to him and clearly he got a better one at Swansea.
He will be 29 in August too.
    Not bothered.

      (Quote)

  8. Looks like we wont be getting Lasogga either.
Herta think they can squeeze us for £10M
Fatty has offered £7.4. For a player in the last yr of his contract who is over weight and NOT an international player. LOL Take it or leave it.
    There is no negotiating.

      (Quote)

  9. Kim – I know what you’re saying, but equally, where is the profit in loaning players?.
He spent £2m loaning Remy for a season and £1.3m loaning De Jong for half a season and both their wages of course. I’m not sure what wages was paid to De Jong, but if Remy was on around 70k that would be around £3.5m and De Jong around 35-40k would make another mill.
There’s around £8m he’s spent last season on players he’s sent back to their parent clubs. Surely even the mega rich Ashley sees that as dead money – unless he can claim tax back on them or something.

  10. you can add Lacazette to the ever increasing list of non incomings too
word is Liverpool want him to replace beaver boy gnash gnash

  11. so where does that leave our awesome scouting team now then ❓
back to the drawing board ?
    panic buying ?
    clueless

  12. Beardsley Boots our scout’s tell Mike how much a club wants for him. Mike puts in a lower bid hoping for the best. The club rejects Mike’s offer and then we go round in circles with speculation and hype.

      (Quote)

  13. Stem – I bet Gomis gets 15 plus goals next season mate.

Boots – what does it matter that Gomis is 29?. Lambert is 32 and he’s just made the move from Saints to Lpool. Gomis may have wanted 100k pw but they negotiate – give him 3 yrs on 75-80k with the option of a 4th if he’s still paying well and scoring.
I’ve heard afew people on about his wage demands and things – just wondering how much the going rate for a goal scorer is these days?.
Sure Shola was on around 50k pw for his contributions. His wage, Gosling, Cabaye, Remy, De Jong. We’re looking to get rid of Benny, Marv, Jonas and MYM – all on wages ranging from 25-70k pw. So I really don’t know why fans are getting worried or interested in wages.

      (Quote)

  14. “Gomis on the other hand could be high risk at 29. Big wages and no guarantees that he will hit form. He wouldn’t get more than a 3yr deal so if he has even 1 poor season it’s a bad signing – I think.”

Sharpy you have fairly changed you tune on Gomis

He got a 4 year deal at Swansea which i think is the biggest reason he went there instead. People are saying he got a £5 million sign on fee. with £75k wage. Ludicrous amount of money for a player with his ability and age. Yes i think he will be a good player. For more than 2 seasons though i am not sure.

      (Quote)

  15. Santii – **** me mate, are you archiving my comments or something?. Yes any player who is signing a 3 yr deal and has no experience in the league is a risk. It’s a fairly short term contract and if lack of form or injury affects them then it could well right off a season.
But Gomis has an excellent goals to game ratio and I think his build and directness would work in the PL.

29 isn’t old, and he scores and makes goals. I repeat the question – what is the going rate for a goal scorer nowadays?.

We aren’t meeting the asking price of players with a fee and won’t pay the wages to those that haven’t got one.

We need players in Santii and teams around us are strengthening and we haven’t even started yet man. We probably need at least 4 players in – 2 forwards and 2 creative midfield players. I’m not saying Gomis is the answer to all our problems, but he would be a very good player for us – even if it was 2 seasons as a starter and 1 or 2 seasons as the impact sub. I’d be more inclined to say ‘**** it’ if we were on the tail of better players, but we are doing nowt.

      (Quote)

  16. I’m sorry, I don’t think I had an opinion either way on the wages, Just looking at the bare facts.
We made what we thought was a good offer and he got a better deal elsewhere.
It’s all down to the clever lads running the show
It’s quite hilarious really. I’m loving it.

      (Quote)

  17. “are you archiving my comments”

No but i think i should start, with all the bullshit you talk 😎

You didn’t think it was a good deal then but you do now we didn’t get him. 💡

Because we have no idea on who we are going for doesn’t mean we aren’t going for people.

      (Quote)

  18. Santii – I’m pleased you added the whole post. As you will see, I ended it with – I think. Meaning I wasn’t completely sure. I haven’t fairly changed my tune at all, I’ve said again tonight that I don’t think Gomis is necassarily the answer and yes he’s a risk – but Santii, it’s not me who’s been chasing him for the last year and longer mate!.
The club have done the work on him, they will have known the craic!. If they didn’t want to spend that kind of money – why but so much graft in?.
It’s not me putting all my eggs in one basket, it’s the chairman or Chief Exec or DoF or whatever position it is now?!. It’s hardly like they have been working on an alternative is it?.
You wear your shades with pride if you think you have in some way tripped me up mate, but I said Gomis COULD be a risk and finished the post with – I think, meaning the jury was out.
The fact is though that we haven’t signed anyone yet and are loosing transfer targets to rival clubs because we won’t pay the money – Bony, Remy and now Gomis – and we’ve signed no alternative.

      (Quote)

  19. Santii – while we are pasting past posts, here is a comment I posted when Gomis was first linked with Swansea:

Well I would have liked to have seen us land Gomis personally. The wages and signing on fee have clearly been the sticking point, but personally I’m not arsed about them. He’s a big strong CF who scored goals. Yes he’s 29 so not really one for the future, but we need strikers for the now!.
We lost out to Swansea for Bony and it looks like we’ll loose out on Gomis to them as well. It’s fair to say that they are competition for league positions next season – they are strengthening with a player we should absolutely have landed long before now.

I haven’t just changed my tune now he has signed for Swansea 😉

  23. It is definitely frustrating for the fans, that we have allegedly been chasing Gomis for the past 3 years, but with the proviso that he must be a bargain or we are not interested.
I honestly think this method of running the club will come back to bite fatty on his ample **** very soon.
As all the players we are ‘linked’ with get hovered up for a couple of pounds more than we are prepared to pay, the panic will set in and we will end up over-paying for much lesser quality players.
Fatty will then cry ‘foul’ when we are propping up the bottom of the league table, with a ***** manager and an over rated squad of poor quality players.
You reap what ya sow you fat knut. 👿

  25. Sharpy@987, Mate I know, but you know what he’s like, he simply has to make a profit, the fact he may lay out a few million in loans including wages is small fry to him. If he can make the sort of profit he made on Cabs he’s far happier, we need to accept he sees us as a business not a football club seeking to achieve trophies and the like. We are in a terrible mess player wise at the moment ,other teams are steeling a march on us left right and centre while Jabbas only concern appears to be whether or not he can get that SD bonus agreed or not 👿

    Pards,
“We have not really stretched Manchester City in recent years, certainly not since I have been here, so it will be nice to get a result against them, and get our season up and running.

“The big sides, coming off the World Cup, might struggle to get going, there is a little bit of history of that happening before.

“That mght be an advantage to us but we are certainly looking to be stronger than we were last year, particularly the second half of the season – that is our focus.

“I am really optimistic about the fixtures, it is as good as it could be.”

“December looks tricky and I think we need to get a good points tally going into that month because it is going to be tough for us.

“We have got Sunderland at home for the first derby and that is good for us.” 😕

  34. We live in hope that the failure to sign Gomis will stir and improve our determination to sign one or two of our other targets soon.
You cant win them all Fatty, sometimes you have to pay the going rate.
No excuses if they’re not involved in WC either.
Other clubs have started making signings now.

    Ameobi
    Gosling
    Tavs
    Remy
    Dejong
all off the wage bill and who’s in ?
    Colback
    Perez
rumours are Abied is on the point of joining the greek club permanently ,God jabba will be pleased ,before the season is up and running his financial plan is already bearing fruit .

  38. For the love of god!!. You’re all missing the point man 👿

Yes we haven’t got a first team centre forward ….. But we also have spent £10m on a player or paid them £100k pw!!! – instead that the most important thing?!.

  39. I know Pards keeps talking about transfers but he’d bee the last to know what’s really going on like.

      (Quote)

  40. Well I ****** that post up!! 😆

    Here’s the corrections – we HAVEN’T spent £10m and aren’t paying anyone 100k – ISN’T that the most important thing?! 😳 🙄 😆

      (Quote)

  41. Maybe they are just clearing out players over 21 who arent deemed good enough to be registered for the first team and can barely play for the reserves in the new structure ??

      (Quote)

  42. Kim – I think that’s wishful thinking. I’d love for it to be true but I think it’s more a case of improving the books further. Like you say, the bloke is running a business rather than a football club.

      (Quote)

  43. CC – valid point. But they aren’t replacing them though are they?. We have a really small squad as it is.
I reckon both Tav and Abied had ‘successful’ loan spells last season – it could be argued that there is a place in the squad for a back up RB and back up ACM. They are probably both in a position where they could be making the bench and yet we are selling them. Begs the question what was the point in sending them out on loan?.

      (Quote)

  44. We dont actually we have 28 players over 21

If we want players in some are going to have to leave

The ammount we are recieving is nominal, It probably hasnt paid for Colos monthly wage. Its not a case of Ashley punting anything for money its a case of letting a young lad leave as his career here is finished as we do with a couple of dozen young lads from the academy every year

      (Quote)

  45. CC – we’ve let some leave!. Harper, Shola, Gosling, Remy, De Jong, Cabaye. Perez is only 20 so Colback is the only addition so far that would take a squad place. I make that 5 spaces to fill already.
I’ve got no problem getting rid if they aren’t good enough – but we need the replacements in place.
Equally though, if they are doing as you say, then start with Jonas, Marv, Benny and Obertan – the deadwood that are getting paid alot more money than the likes of Tav and Abied.

      (Quote)

  46. Tim Krul
    Fabricio Coloccini

    Yoan Gouffran
    Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
    Ryan Taylor
    Romain Amalfitano
    Jonás Gutiérrez
    Massadio Haïdara
    Rob Elliot
    Sylvain Marveaux
    Cheick Tioté
    Gabriel Obertan
    Mathieu Debuchy
    Steven Taylor
    Sammy Ameobi
    Haris Vučkić
    Shane Ferguson
    Curtis Good
    Paul Dummett
    Mehdi Abeid
    Jak Alnwick
    Jack Colback

All need regiseting for next season, Plenty of deadwood to shed even with those players already departing

      (Quote)

  47. You think they havent touted those players around already? If buyers were out there they would be long gone by now.

Even if they had i very much doubt it would have impacted on the futures of Tavernier, Vuckic, Abeid, Ferguson etc. as they obviously dont think they have a future here and are in limbo with the 25 man squad/U21 structure.

      (Quote)

  48. CC, Do you think the club should be communicating with the fans more, re Transfers and so on?, at the moment the only communication seems to be roll up roll up season tickets still available . Quite how they expect fans to snap them up when no ‘ Purples’ have arrived or look like arriving I don’t know.

      (Quote)

  49. Absolutely if Ashley spoke to the chronicle just once a season and explained his decisions i think it would make a difference. While he refuses point blank to talk we will always be wondering what the hell is going on especially when buffoons like Kinear rock up.

On the purples, I might well be wrong but i expect some good players to arrive.

      (Quote)

  50. CC – the only player I’ve read about them ‘touting’ has been MYM. I’m not saying they haven’t with the rest but as you and Kim have already mentioned – there is nowt coming out of the club as to who is transfer listed.

Is there any of the players that we have been linked with so far that you think we will get in mate?.

      (Quote)

  51. CC – you make a good point on the squad we have, but I cant see many more arriving until we sell a few more.
Sell to buy is the mantra.
I wont be surprised to see a couple more U21’s arriving before any more purples. I can hear the howls of derision already.
Our trouble is the likes of Obertan, Marv, Jonas, Benny and MYM etc who Percy doesn’t want, nobody else wants either but who we cant get rid of, due to long contracts and good wages.
If we cant get rid of these players, then Parsnip better start mending bridges with them and start playing them. Preferably in positions where they perform at their best.
It’s going to be a long old summer. 🙁

      (Quote)

  52. Obviously strikers is a separate thing, and we should have pushed the boat out in this department already.
In so doing more season tickets would have already been sold.

We should go out and get the players we need and start pre season on a proper footing for a change.
It’s all well and good running a tight ship financially, but the miserly penny pinching to save a few quid is beyond pathetic. Especially following the boost to TV money we have already received.
    Simply beggars belief

  55. My final point today is about MYM.
I find it absolutely deplorable the way he has been treated by Percy and the club. And having signed a 5 year deal has been consigned to the scrap heap.
This one thing alone stands out to show how utterly inept Parsnip is as a coach in the premier league.
He was playing his best football alongside Willo when Colo was away sulking (injured or whatever) in Argentina.
This coincidentally was our best run of form of last season.
To have been dropped for Percy’s favourite on his return, despite not even being 100% fit was a disgrace. Then to expect him to perform in many other positions or mostly consigned to the bench is unfair. But the final insult is then for Pardoom to basically come out and tell everyone he thinks he is **** and not ‘up’ to the premier league.
This from a manager who cant control his vile mouth and other actions on the touchline during a match.
I really hope MYM refuses to go anywhere on the cheap. Especially if it involves a paycut of any description.
I think the Lad is far better than Fraudew thinks he is.
