How do you feel about our two new signings?

Colback - Changing colours
Colback – Changing colours
So we’ve signed two players, on permanent deals. Bring out the banners and stop the press! This kind of things doesn’t happen often.

Ayoze Perez has joined us from Tenerife whilst Jack Colback has joined us from our bitter rivals on Wearside, with rather amusing reactions from those of a red and white persuasion as a result.

To be honest I can’t really knock the Colback transfer. We picked him up for nowt and he’s a tidy player. Nothing spectacular and certainly no replacement for Yohan Cabaye, but he’ll do a job and despite his time spent at Sunderland, he is actually a United fan so he’ll give his all for us and at least we’ll have one player in our ranks who knows what it means to play in a Tyne-Wear derby!

Speaking of which, many fans have reservations about him purely because of his reaction after recent derby victories for Sunderland. I suggest people get over it and realise that he was just doing a job for the club who actually gave him a breakthrough in the Premier League. Alan Shearer celebrated enough goals against us before he joined us which is worth pointing out. He was just doing his job.

I can’t really comment on Perez as I can’t say my personal knowledge of the Spanish second division is up there with the best. He sounds like a decent enough prospect though but we don’t exactly have a great record of developing prospects do we? Plus he is said to be small, technical and pacey, which isn’t the kind of player that Pardew seems to like. He’s not even a left-back for goodness sake!

So back to my original question. How do I feel about these two new signings. Uninspired I guess. Yes we need our squad building but that is through the neglect from the past few transfer windows, but we also need our first team strengthened and whilst Colback may strengthen it overall, I’d like to think we have our eyes on better players to plug those gaps in the first team.

I’m in danger of sounding like I’m clamouring for superstar signings. I’m not. But I do want the first team strengthened and for me neither of these should be doing that.

That is why I’m underwhelmed…

  1. Lets not get too excited one (apparatly unreliable) source in France report something then every cack website regurgitates it as fact

Arsenal have just lost their right back so these sad ******* link them with ours and 2+2=5

  2. CC, It’s more the fact that Jabba has reportedly slapped a £12m tag on him, if true, why so low 😕 Add in the players own statement of concentrating on the WC and seeing about his future after and it doesn’t look too good. All he had to do was state he was a Newcastle player and not looking to move but he also added he misses CL football so I would say that’s a clear come and get me.

  3. Surely that tells us the credibility of the story, He knows how much arsenal can pay just like he did when they wanted Cabaye. £12m is below what he would demand

Non story for me, If he leaves he’ll go to PSG imo

  4. Just read an article that says skybet has us as 3-1 favorite to sign the mexican keeper Ochoa . Apparently his contract was run down and he is free .Him in and Krul out for 10 million just the sort of thing Ashley loves but its probably BS

      (Quote)

  5. But Kim wor Alan told us it’s tough to do business during the World Cup- even for players that aren’t playing 🙂

  6. MDS we send our bids by carrier pigeons but waiting for jabba to give the OK to feed them, seem to be able to sell players OK like

      (Quote)

  7. Ice & MDS, really don’t wanna lose Debbie 🙁 It is amazing how quickly we get rid as opposed to acquiring though 😉

  8. The only way toon will get 12mil plus is if PSG enter the fray,as I said we can sell quick,we are still waiting to bid after 18plus months,we are a joke, and jabba will be in a worse mood t/morrow when he loses the vote to give himself a few million quid from SD

  9. Arsenal are desperate for a RB and supposedly Wenger loves Debuchy. We should absolutely extort the gunners but we won’t. Charnley’s out of his depth

      (Quote)

  10. It could be because he’s 29 this month that the price is that low 😕 even so I would still make them pay.

  12. Kim – I think the Virgil story is BS!. I only seen him linked with Man Utd, which is probably BS as well just coz LVG is going there.
The Ross McCormack story, I believe we had an interest in him coz Leeds themselves confirmed we bid. I’d defo take him but it depends what Fulham are paying. I reckon up to £7m would be a fair price.

I’ve never been confident on us signing Lacazette or Lasogga. I think Lacazette will be priced too high for what we want to pay – I’d pay up to £12m for him personally.
Lasogga I think wants to stay in Germany and the fact he’s in his final year may mean he gets whatever move he wants. I think we have bid around £8m for him and I think that’s about right personally.

The only player we’ve been linked with so far that I think might come off is Cabella. I’ve got no idea which forwards we will go after or get now.

  13. We’ve got two new signings??? Awesome! Who???

Oh…you mean THOSE ‘new’ signings…can we have two more that we can actually class as new please?

Loads of links for comings and goings but nothing coming from reliable sources so mostly rubbish…hope things will get going soon with players soon arriving for pre-season…

  14. Sharpy – it’s still rumour and bullshit time. I’m not keen on Lassoga but the buggers are going to have to sign a striker. Lacozette I’d like but the fees for him and Grenier would add up to around £30m, probably more than we’d pay. Would Cabella be any better than Benny at covering a full back?
    Maybe Pardew’s had a tactics transplant out in Brazil . . .

  15. KIMTOON

Those articles are mostly complete rubbish and speculation. Someone picks up a tweet or dubious story and then runs it as fact, then someone else posts it as fact and the ball keeps rolling.

I’m all for discussion around interesting links but really hate the toxic atmosphere around our clubs when fans use loose rumours as a way of complaining about the way our club is run.

Truth is, 2 squad signings, no significant sales, plenty of time to go. Don’t panic! 🙂

  16. Did I kill the blog? 😐

Or did I just remind everyone that there’s just nothing happening when it comes to NUFC…

Oh…I did see that Fatlatino has left for Dijon on a 3 years deal though. Big news! Hmmm…

      (Quote)

  17. TDS, I did say in my post , I didn’t even know we were meant to be interested in Virgil, but we have enquired about Ross as Leeds confirmed we have . As for the others, well supposedly Lasogga walked out of talks with us and as sharps says probs wants Hamburg anyhow. Them other two Cabella and Grenier I can’t see turning up either, but doubtless the sagas over them will go on and on 😉 And Lacozette was dreamed up by someone with too much time on their hands as we won’t stump up for him.

      (Quote)

  18. TDS – you didn’t kill the blog mate, the lack of anything toon related has killed the blog!.
I see Stevie Bruce is busy down at Hull Tigers though. Already bought Livermore, Snodgrass and about to sign Tom Ince. Not a bad midfield when you add Huddlestone into the mix.
The Livermore deal is £5m rising to £8m and Snodgrass is £7m with Ince on a free transfer.
So that’s 3 British players for an initial lay out of £12m – 2 of which were regular starters in the PL last season. Aye it’s hard work and expensive work brining in these British players Al! 🙄

      (Quote)

  19. But Sharpy, Alan told us that only the top clubs can buy English:)

By the way what the hell was Pards on about with that comment. He’s the one that has made comments about having more English players in the squad. I don’t remember it ever being much of an issue for supporters. We just want players at this point

      (Quote)

  20. Well apart from the fact Livermore is ***** and Tom ince looked like a little boy lost playing with the bigger boys last season

    Quite like Snodgrass though

      (Quote)

  21. CC

I think all three of them are *****. £15 million on two very ****/average British players is a great reminder on how much better it is going abroad.

      (Quote)

  22. I would take snodgrass in a heartbeat. Imagine a player in the squad who could actually take a fucking set piece. We can definitely do better though, but what will we do…

  23. Guys Its just been on Dutch TV Siem DeJong is in the Toon and IS signing for us Honest its just been on

  24. There is a pic of him and Manchester Airport aswell. Hope we are close to getting him.

    I think he is class

  25. The twitter grapevine is saying done deal he was having a medical today. Announced tonight or tomorrow. They are even saying 5 year contract.

I would take zero notice of that though. 😆

At least we know he is in England

  26. Funny enough someone called joe posted about De Jong early today on another forum, said he’d sign today 😉

  27. Translation of Axels link

The transfer will be tonight or tomorrow officially announced by the English club in the Premier League. De Jong signed a five-year commitment. At Ajax he had an ongoing contract until 2015.

His brother Luuk de Jong came last season even though half a year on loan from Newcaslte for United, but was eventually bought out by the British.

  28. @lee_ryder: Dutch media have been briefed by #ajax that Siem de Jong deal close. #nufc hoping to finalise tonight/tomorrow if all goes to plan.

  29. Im getting the feeling it is a done deal by the way it is being reported.

CC if the press report nothing then its taken as everyone on the Newcastle staff are sitting on their whole’s doing nothing. Either way you still get a load of made up bullshit.

  30. KIMTOON i think he will need time to get up too speed but yeah the lad is certainly skillful enough too do a job . An added bonus is the fact he has already played with Anita at Ajax and may just bring the best out of Anita next season .

  31. Watched the Argentina game earlier, what a load of ****, them and Brazil have been very lucky to progress.

  32. Axel, just read he had a few injuries last season missed half the season but managed 9 goals in 28

  33. We’ll it’s seems we have finally signed De Jong.

I hope Pardew makes good use of him and puts him behind the striker as a second striker or attacking midfielder. That way he can get in the box alot and show his goal scoring ability.

      (Quote)

  34. KIMTOON yeah the lad does have an eye for a goal and if you saw him play not just against city , but all his games in the CL , then it fills me with confidence he can do it in the EPL .
