Siem signs on!

A better de Jong?
A better de Jong?
I had almost finished writing an article late last night when news broke which meant I had to pretty much bin the whole thing.

Never mind. I’ve had a nice couple of weeks in Turkey enjoying the culture (Efes, Raki, Quad Bikes etc) so don’t mind starting again.

Anyway the subject of the planned article was that basically that during all the time I’ve been away stationed in some mountains somewhere not too far from Syria, in a land forgotten by the internet, that nothing has changed.

Less than 12 hours after my return, and no more than five minutes before publishing a fresh article which you’ve no doubt been waiting for, there has been a change and we’ve managed to sign former Ajax captain Siem de Jong.

The 25-year-old has signed a six-year contract with the club for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £6m-£7.5m – a reduction on the £15 million Ajax were looking for last summer, presumably as the Dutch club fear losing him for nothing when his contract expires in the summer.

Born in Switzerland to Dutch parents, de Jong has represented Holland at every level and currently has six full international caps with two goals to his name. During is time at Ajax he racked up 244 appearances in all competitions over seven seasons, scoring 78 goals operating mainly as an attacking midfielder with occasional stints as a striker when required. Here is a video of him in action.

The lad has shown class in the Dutch league but only time will tell if he can replicate that in what is a much tougher league. Maybe I’m just being overly cautious after the failed loan spell his brother Luuk had with us last season? I don’t know. I’d be ecstatic if it worked out though.

This is now our third summer signing following the arrivals of Jack Colback and Ayoze Perez earlier on the summer, but more still needs to be done if we are to have a squad anywhere near ready for the new season which is now approximately seven weeks away.

Maybe this is just the start of that process?

When was Ben Arfa & Mbiwa sold??? Didn’t see a thing about it.

Debuchy, Remy & Cabaye are the only three you mentioned that really need replaced. De Jong & Cabella look good. .Lets wait and see if Janmaat is true and we will then only really need a striker.

Colback & Perez should be decent squad players.

Gosling had like 25 appearances for us in four seasons. He hardly needs replacing. Bigirimana, Abeid, Kemen will easily fill any whole Gosling left.

How many starts did Luuk De Jong even get. Doubt he will be a big miss.

  2. Kim i have read two articles on the so called deal this morning one said the fee had been agreed and just needed personal terms and the other said personal terms agreed and just needed to agree a fee. It really looks like paper talk (rubbish) to me. Though i could be wrong but i hope I’m not 😀

The people who may miss me from that blog have either deserted it themselves or just barely bother to post any more. I don’t believe the loudmouths miss me apart from those who just enjoy butting heads for some reason.

I’ve checked it a few times since I stopped posting and it’s still full of the usual suspects spouting their rubbish. Sad…as there have been some good posters on there before, but it’s devolved since…

  4. Axel he’s popped on a few times recently. Someone said he has trouble posting on the device he uses once there’s a ton of comments on a thread. Not sure if true

  5. It must be a real privilege to have former apprentice winner, professional accountant and leading London businessman not to mention ex leader of the young Tory party Toon Darn Sarf deem you you all intelligent enough to share his vision of establishing Newcastle United as a top ten club over the ndxt fifteen years

  6. Well the Dutch team have landed back in Rotterdam about an hour and a half ago . Maybe we will hear in the next day or two if the bid we put in for Janmaat is for real or not .

I seen that looks like a good turn out for them at the airport. I’m guessing its seen as a good tournament for the Netherlands considering the really low expectations.

Twitter is blowing up at the minute with news that Cabella is at the training ground. Guess we will see in a few hours if that has any truth in it.

  8. Yep as MDS says he has bother posting when it gets over a certain amount of comments…of course today he’s probably out with his flute and orange sash! 😉

  9. SANTII no one here expected them too get through the group stage they are being treated as heros .

  10. You could tell 3rd place meant something to the Dutch. Though they have some effort yesterday.

So Cabella’s fee will be the most we e paid for a player since Owen? 😯

Depending on what reports you read/believe i think he could be our 3rd most expensive player of all time.

Oh no! We are going back to the days of marquee signings 😯

    Axel

Robben, RVP & Sneijder’s last tournament or do you think they will make the Euro’s. Sneijder is the youngest of the 3 so he could still make the next World Cup i guess.

  12. With Cabella looking done and dusted if we now add Janmaat, Rivière, this young CB and another striker I’ll tip my hat to the club this window (and gladly take back the things I’ve said about Charnley)

      (Quote)

  13. SANTTII i think all 3 will be at the Euros for one last go at winning a major tournament , if their fitness allows it and i have my doubts about Robben lasting that long .

  14. MDS

What if its only Janmaat and Rivière. With Debuchy the only outgoing would you be happy with that?

      (Quote)

  15. Content probably but not happy. If we can’t get another striker Id at least like the club to get a loaner. I’d just be a bit worried relying on Rivière, Cisse and Arma by themselves. Depends what Cisse shows up this year though I think De Jong will do his game some good

  16. I know you really miss Eds blog deep down Tds.
Welsh geordie even started a petition to bring you back home, but it was rejected by the masses of the blog. So you’re stuck here for the foreseeable future. (welsh geordie was later sectioned)

Can I ask why you’ve all been on the same article for 13 days ?
Is the author on a bender ? 😀

  17. MDS do you reckon the young CB is a purple though ? got a feeling he will be at best a bench warmer . Would much prefer a signing so as Richards that would walk straight into the side and be a marked improvement too the team . Fair do’s to Charnley though he certainly hasn’t been sitting on his **** , it looks like Cabella is as good as over the line so thats 4 in already . The guy knows how too close a deal thats for sure unlike the last knob we had as DOF.

  18. Not happy with Riviere at all, Need a finisher

Cisse and Gouffran would be backing up a player with an inferior scoring record. For £8m they could find better in this counrty let alone abroad

  19. @lee_ryder: Cabella now at SJP posing in #nufc shirt. Still no official confirmation yet though.

      (Quote)

  20. Axel I reckon he’s not a purple but I don’t have real problems with Collo, Willo, Staylor, Mbiwa. Though if Mbiwa goes then yeah we probably need someone with a bit more experience. Maybe the club thinks the Lad is ready though- this is the first I’ve heard of him to be fair. Adding Richards AND Janmaat would be a real statement if intent by the club I think

  22. Kim…so did I so did I…mind I did say from Germany, Argies and Brazil too…then again getting 3 of the final 4 ain’t bad either…if pushed I’d have said Netherlands for the 4th (prob not really) 😉

    Howay Deutschland 😛

  32. If our squad is Krul, Elliot, Santon, Janmaat, Haidara, Raylor, Colo, MYM, Willo, Saylor, Tiote, Anita, Colback, Sissoko, SDJ, HBA, Cabella, Goofy, Cisse, Rivière and one more striker, that’s 21 players. Add the likes of Dummett, Obertan, Marv, Perez and other youth players and that’s a big enough squad for a club that isn’t in Europe surely?

  33. DAVE must be still tanked up from y/day march, hope he hasn’t lost Richie flute and flag he lent him
