Game On! Aston Villa v Newcastle

Game On at Villa Park
Game On at Villa Park
Game number two of our Premier League season will soon kick-off as we head to Villa Park in search of our first points of the season.

It sounds a bit dramatic saying that, this being only our second match of the campaign, but it will soon pass by and we’ll be at Christmas before you know it. Perish the thought…

All 2,800 seats in the away end at Villa Park have been sold at a ground where certainly the fans at the very least give a good account of the club. And in fairness they’ve been richly rewarded since enduring the taunts of the Villa fans in the immediate aftermath of our relegation with victories on our last two visits preceded by a draw and just the solitary one-goal defeat in our first season back in the Premier League.

That’s all in the past though. Today is a new day and all that. Something else that is new is half of our team to be fair which brings it’s own pressure. Alan Pardew had an excuse last season, that being that we were down to the bare bones towards the end of the campaign, but now there isn’t one. Pardew has seen his side strengthened so excuses are now in short supply, as is patience amongst fans for a manager who the majority feel should have been disposed of last season.

Anyway, enough waffle. There is a match to concentrate on. If you feel you need some more build up to the game then please feel free to head over to my match preview and fill up on injury news, early team news, stats and facts with a history of the fixture thrown in for good measure.

With regards to viewing the match, an early kick-off here in the UK means that the game is being broadcast live on these shores courtesy of BT Sport. That combined with a host of overseas channels offering broadcast should mean that streams will be available. If you do find a good’un then please leave a link to it in the comments section below. Team news will be posted below in full as and when it becomes available.

Oh before I go, an update on what is happening with this place. Basically, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I can’t write as many articles as I once could. I work odd hours, long hours and have a family who want my time aswell. It wasn’t a problem before as there was a team of writers but as those have gone to Uni or had other things take up their spare time it’s left me as he lone regular contributor to the site.

I’ve always welcomed guest posts, and some of you have been kind enough to send articles in which is really greatly appreciated and is always welcome, but I’m also looking for regular contributors/administrators to help me run the site and keep content fresh. If anyone is interested then please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Howay the lads!

  1. Well we better have a decent replacement lined up cause the thought of Saylor stepping in on a frequent basis is **** right worrying.

  2. AMF I agree Richards “was” a beast and talked about as a a top player for England for years to come, but some how has become fitness prone, maybe a half fit Richards would be better than taylor tough call imo

  3. Apparently we are back in for Remy as well, what part of he ain’t fussed do our board not understand.

  4. Ice, yeah mate, he will be a gamble for sure.. but we need someone in so we can keep Saylor on the bench..

  5. I don’t really rate Mbiwa. Then again I don’t really rate Saylor. I’d be quite happy with taking a shot with Richards. Saw an interview with him where he sounded desperate to get back into the England side. I like players with something to prove

  6. Papiss has had chances created for him in the last two years, and good ones too, and he still barely took any of them. He actually needs half chances created for him because he’s much better at scoring difficult goals than ones put on a plate for him!

That said I think maybe mentally there is a lot less pressure on him, just like when he first arrived, and Rivvy is quick enough and strong enough to keep any CB pairing busy which makes a change from the usual lads we’ve had at top! Fingers crossed he has a good season.

  7. I just don’t see how every man, woman and their dog can see that we need a CB and a proven goal scoring striker yet the board can’t?

I think if we do bring in the above it will be the first time in a long time that Newcastle fans will actually believe we can move forward and push up the league.

  8. MDS-Would defo take Richards and no question he has the quality to play for us (and therefore, England 😉 ) but it’s just the injury worries really. Will we fork out for a sick note? Then again according to some we only seem to buy damaged goods so maybe he’s the perfect fit..

  9. Scum manager says people will be shocked at who they sign in theses last days of window, mmmmmmmmmmmm

  10. The Celtic dutchy reminds me more of Luiz than anyone. All those 70 yard impossible to control passes and surges out from the back. Doesn’t even look a CB.
Nastasic or Richards would do me but disappointingly I think we’re done for this window. Is that right, Mbiwa to Marseille?
We really really need a replacement for Willo (for 4 years) and a proper goalscorer. I have no faith in Cisse or Riviere and can’t understand Ferra not getting a run out. Armstrong looks our best striker!

Maybe he is talking about Ricardo Álvarez from inter….I’ve never heard of him until I read a about their interest today like.

  12. Whaaaaat???? There’s a Geordie in the England team! And he plays for Newcastle??? Whaaaaat???

  13. Hmm lots of crew on here giving up on signing anyone… they either truly believe it or they think we might but are trying to protect their fragile emotions from more disappointment just in case we don’t. 😆

  14. Nice to see a few new faces in the England squad. Even better when there is a Toon player in there.

  15. Must be some mistake – Colback in England squad? Hodgson was at Villa but Jack didn’t exactly pull up any trees. Is he that good or is it an indication of the paucity of English players?

  16. I don’t think we’ll sign anyone unless MYM/Saylor goes or a cracking deal comes on the table. I don’t think anyone on the planet is sure if we will or won’t sign anyone, it’s simply going to be down to circumstances.

  17. I think the Mackems population has just exploded when their parole officers read them the latest England squad.
