Game On! Aston Villa v Newcastle

Game On at Villa Park
Game On at Villa Park
Game number two of our Premier League season will soon kick-off as we head to Villa Park in search of our first points of the season.

It sounds a bit dramatic saying that, this being only our second match of the campaign, but it will soon pass by and we’ll be at Christmas before you know it. Perish the thought…

All 2,800 seats in the away end at Villa Park have been sold at a ground where certainly the fans at the very least give a good account of the club. And in fairness they’ve been richly rewarded since enduring the taunts of the Villa fans in the immediate aftermath of our relegation with victories on our last two visits preceded by a draw and just the solitary one-goal defeat in our first season back in the Premier League.

That’s all in the past though. Today is a new day and all that. Something else that is new is half of our team to be fair which brings it’s own pressure. Alan Pardew had an excuse last season, that being that we were down to the bare bones towards the end of the campaign, but now there isn’t one. Pardew has seen his side strengthened so excuses are now in short supply, as is patience amongst fans for a manager who the majority feel should have been disposed of last season.

Anyway, enough waffle. There is a match to concentrate on. If you feel you need some more build up to the game then please feel free to head over to my match preview and fill up on injury news, early team news, stats and facts with a history of the fixture thrown in for good measure.

With regards to viewing the match, an early kick-off here in the UK means that the game is being broadcast live on these shores courtesy of BT Sport. That combined with a host of overseas channels offering broadcast should mean that streams will be available. If you do find a good’un then please leave a link to it in the comments section below. Team news will be posted below in full as and when it becomes available.

Aston Villa:Guzan, Hutton, Senderos, Vlaar, Cissokho, Westwood, Delph, Richardson, Weimann, N’Zogbia, Agbonlahor.

Subs:Given, Baker, Bacuna, Cole, Bent, Sanchez, Grealish.

Newcastle:Krul; Janmaat, Williamson, Coloccini (c), Dummett; Anita, Colback; Gouffran, Sissoko, Cabella; Riviere.

Subs:Elliot, Haidara, S.Taylor, Abeid, Obertan, de Jong, Perez.

Oh before I go, an update on what is happening with this place. Basically, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I can’t write as many articles as I once could. I work odd hours, long hours and have a family who want my time aswell. It wasn’t a problem before as there was a team of writers but as those have gone to Uni or had other things take up their spare time it’s left me as he lone regular contributor to the site.

I’ve always welcomed guest posts, and some of you have been kind enough to send articles in which is really greatly appreciated and is always welcome, but I’m also looking for regular contributors/administrators to help me run the site and keep content fresh. If anyone is interested then please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Howay the lads!

    Ahahaha

Poor Djeb getting mixed in with them two… 😀

    Tatty @ 606

Agree. Doubt you are the only one to stop posting for the same reasons.

  2. Alan Pardew;

“I think we have shown real solid team performances in the three game so far – without really getting a break in front of goal.

“So many times we could have got a break tonight and we could have had a second or third goal but it didn’t happen for us.

“I’m hoping to get a break on Saturday, we just need one.

“It would be nice to score two or more goals on Saturday as the way Palace play, they are quick on the break and you sense that they could score.

“So it could mean we need to get two or three goals so that is what our focus must be.”

    😳 😳

      (Quote)

  3. Certainly hoping to see a ‘front foot’ performance versus Palace. So far, no goal scorer, is it:

    – not getting the breaks?
    – trying too hard?
    – lack of ability?

Admittedly, not having seen last night’s game, I’m edging towards the first two (against both City and Villa, we created chances, but snatched at them). Not saying that a proven PL goalscorer wouldn’t be very welcome, but also expecting to see the new forwards relax a bit once the first goal is scored, ideally versus Palace.

  4. latest waffle is that NUFC are renewing their interest in Lacazette.
    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
    👿

  5. I will take that as a compliment from you Solano.

Although you forget the one key element; it was the formation I would have used against City. I didn’t say use it all the time, just for City as their threat comes from centrally strangely enough there goals came from there too. Funny that!

      (Quote)

  6. I cone down on the side that there will be goals in the squad once they are settled and used to playing with one another. I’d love another established striker but think the new lads will be fine with a little patience

This is what happens though when you put yourself in a position where you have to remake your entire attacking options, and half your squad, in a single window. Spurs struggled with it last year as well

  7. @Aussie

I can confirm Troy said a top manager, not a manger willing to work under the current constraints.. a top manager.. 😆 😳

    Is Laudrupp not available? 😛

  8. Bootsy,

Pardew talks a load of ****, I agree. But I don’t think he can do much else when he’s addressing the public. He has to remain positive otherwise the players will be affected.

If he told the truth, as we see it, he would be out the door within days.

      (Quote)

  9. Troy – Can you precis what you have been saying….?

    I cant read your posts theres too many 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

  10. @LST

Eh? I’ve hardly put any on. The only ones I do are when I’m taking the pi55 out of Aussie. 😉

      (Quote)

  11. So Pards thinks we need a few breaks. Generally, in life you make your own breaks Alan. You pay to put a proper side on the pitch Mike. You don’t hire kids as your front men and then moan about the breaks not coming. Pathetic but just more of the same from Pardew.

      (Quote)

  12. We look lightweight for the Championship up front. Do you get that Mike? I know, it’s complicated and your not very bright Mike. Hire somebody who is.

      (Quote)

  13. @G2

If he tells the truth to the fans, where does it leave him?
How can he motivate the team. How is Rivière gonna take it?

Think about it and tell me what you would say if you were Pardew.

      (Quote)

  14. I wouldn’t be there if I was Pards. I would have resigned after that disgraceful finish to last season Troy mate.

      (Quote)

  15. Sad state of affairs again at the club. Pretending everything is all right. Not the case. Ashley is the culprit of course. It’s his club and he’s determined to make a fortune from it in the long run. But it’s not the club it was even with all the problems that occurred under Shepard etc. Ashley is only interested in himself. He laughed his head off when he saw the ground full against Man City. Rubbing his hands together with glee. Sickening.

      (Quote)

  16. Those that want to go to the ground and buy kit etc. should go of course but don’t expect anything to change. Seven years and counting of this bollocks. The man is an idiot when it comes to football. If Ashley thinks Riviere, Perez and Fererrya are going to do anything more than put us in the bottom 10 then he’s mad as a hatter.

      (Quote)

  17. Let’s see now, 3 games played, no goals scored. Who is our best bet as a striker? Gouffy seems to lose composure in front of net. He’s missed from 2 yards out late last season and now early this season. A good worker, tracks back well, but not an instinctive scorer. Perez may develop into a Prem quality striker but not yet. We haven’t seen Fererrya to any extent so the jury is out. Riviere looks like he wants it badly but may not be strong enough. de Jong will score some goals. I see between 30 and 40 goals in the team for the season. And we’ll give up around 60. Doesn’t sound like a good ratio to me. I’ll stop blathering on now.

      (Quote)

  18. Let’s look at the little shop of horrors run by Mike shall we>
Dennis Wise: the poison dwarf, hopeless
Joe Kinnear: easily the dimmest bulb ever to be a Director of Football in the Prem. Couldn’t find his own shoes if he was wearing them.
Derek Llambeezee: Mr. purple. Staggering football intellect. Enough said there.
With talent like that why haven’t we won the league and a few cups already? It’s a deep mystery to me.
    Sorry, couldn’t resist one more.

      (Quote)

  19. This is your Senior Official Club Journo reporting from the training ground. I have a happy, relaxed Alan Pardew here with me to answer some questions.
G2: Alan, have you been satisfied with the club’s play so far?
Alan: Yes definitely G2. We have had a tricky start to the season having to play other Premier League clubs and all but we’ve held our own beautifully.
G2: Are you worried at all about the lack of goals so far?
Alan: No, definitely not. We’ve created some wonderful chances with our attacking style of football. The goals will come rest assured, and before Christmas too!
G2: Have you had any productive chats with Ben Arfa recently?
Alan: Most definitely. He’s a wonderful player. He knows I have his best interests at heart. I’m knitting a scarf for him as well. Unfortunately I have decided that we have a better offensive player in Big Mike Williamson. He has the skills to make all the difference. Once he’s back form suspension I can give the strikers a much deserved rest.
G2 Well that was wonderful Alan. I’ll let you get back to it. It looks like you’re running some defensive drills. Excellent.

      (Quote)

  20. @G2

You wouldn’t resign if you needed the cash for your family.

So if you consider his situation, what do you think he should say, bearing in mind, his job is to motivate the team.

Go on, give it a go.

      (Quote)

  21. Have you read my comment at 850 Troy mate? That’s what I would say. By the way isn’t it time for a new article. We could have a very short one listing all of Ashley’s football achievements.

      (Quote)

  22. Mike Ashley makes me sick the way he runs this club. Pardew probably think’s his doing a great job because Mike fills his head with that ****. Then Pardew doesn’t get why the fan’s are so hostile towards him when Ashley couldn’t be happier.

      (Quote)

  23. G2 So if there was a Mike Ashley nufc top with Kinnear and Pardew on both sides you wouldn’t wear it 🙂

      (Quote)

  24. Nice couple of rants there G2.
Seems like we are starting off the season looking forwards to more of the shame old tripe being served up as previous seasons.
I certainly cant see us progressing very much further in the cup(s)
Looking forwards to the draw later.
At least we won’t draw manure away 😆

      (Quote)

  25. @Bootsy

Come this November it will be 2 yrs since you predicted he would be gone by Xmas.

I told you there was no chance as he’s perfect for Ashley’s regime.

Another great prediction from the Troyster. 😉

      (Quote)

  26. The next league match will be more of an indication of how our season will pan out. I think we were always going to lose the city match, regardless of how we played. In the grand scheme of things, a point away at villa is not bad either. But we should be looking for 3 points at home to palace on Saturday. No excuses. None whatsoever.
If we get turned over badly, I can see the grief for Percy starting off much earlier this season. And rightly so.
The following 3 matches Saints (a) Hull (h) and Stoke (a) wont be any easier on the back of another home defeat.
So the way I see it is the Palace match is a ‘must win’
    Howay the Lads

      (Quote)

  27. wow Pards has moved from being just a coach to transfer dealings

On Abeid “We had a bid for him, one of the few players that we have had a bid for, and I turned it down flat,” said Pardew…
Since when did Alan decide who stays or who goes?? did he OK the Cabaye deal? 🙄

Aye Troy, he certainly motivates Abeid by publicly admitting “”He makes mistakes, he gives free kicks away on the edge of the area, he does some naive things. He has been to Panathinaikos to cut them out, so I’m slightly disappointed with him in that. 😛 .

      (Quote)

  28. Troy – nee bother fella 😛
In any other club he would have been gone and you know it.
I still maintain we deserve better, but I conceded a long while ago that you were right on that one.
I still don’t agree with you when you stated last season that Percy is not to blame for the defeats, because the players are ****.
The guy is a fucking idiot, beyond doubt.
Beggars belief he is the 2nd longest currently serving head coach in the Premier League.

      (Quote)

  29. Well Bootsy, at Xmas last season, we were in contention for a top 4 spot. We then sold Cabaye and Remy got injured and we failed to get cover for him.

I predicted then that we would drop like a stone and we did.

The bloke is not a miracle worker. He’s a decent premier manager with very limited resources. 😉

      (Quote)

  30. I would say he is out of his depth in the premier league to be honest.
But I will concede he is doing a cracking job for fatty. Just the job.
And there in lies the root of the problem.

      (Quote)

  31. Mark@858, You can’t go posting that nonsense, according to many on here, ahem Troy, he has no say in transfers 😉

      (Quote)

  32. @Kim

I hope he hasnt got a say in transfer dealings. We’ve still got time to sign C Cole or D Bent 😯

Troys blog love affair with Pards reminds me of Mr Burns and Smithers 😀

      (Quote)

  33. I wonder if Facundo Ferreyra is on a pay as you play deal at the toon ? I’m not sure what his mother club in the Ukraine thought of him upping sticks in mid season, and turning up at the toon just like that… Stwange stuff… Then Pardew has the bloke sitting on the bench, whilst telling the media he wants to sign another striker. ….

      (Quote)

  34. I see all the top teams got home draws 👿
not us tho, away again wtf ❓ 👿

      (Quote)

  35. For the neggers…please look at the teams that other PL clubs put out. Villa and QPR knocked out today with heavily rotated teams. We only rested a few…

      (Quote)

  36. Palace away isn’t an easy draw but it isn’t a toughie either. I reckon they will heavily rotate their squad. The appointment of Warnock says to me that they’re going for survival at best.

      (Quote)

  37. NEWKIE

Nah. He was Pardewed before he went, then Wenger has gambling debts to Ashley so he forced him to overpay…

      (Quote)

  38. Stuart79 God help us if we can’t score against Palace, especially at home. Many years ago this would have been an easy game for us. There is always a chance of an own goal in our favour. I defiantly hope Ashley does the right thing and spend 15 million on a proven striker but you can wish with one hand and **** in another where Ashley’s concerned.

Eh? I’ve hardly put any on. The only ones I do are when I’m taking the pi55 out of Aussie. 😉

Deary me 😳 😯 … Poor old Troy doesn’t even realise it when someone is actually laughing at him and his hysterically funny serious posts. 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  40. Hello? Hello? Anybody here? It seems I’ve managed to get into Ashley’s underground complex again. More cells than last time I believe. Hmmm, what’s this say on the door? Derek Llambeezee.. Oh dear. There is some moaning from inside. Time to move on. And over here someone manacled to the wall? It says Joe Kinnear. Surely not. This poor wretch is Joe Kinnear? I’ve left him my peppermints but I have to go. Dear God, I hope I find the way out.

      (Quote)

  41. MM@868…It wasn’t mid season mate, Shakhtar’s first game was the end of July and he signed for us 3rd August. Also he didn’t just “turn up” at the toon, he’d gone back to Shaktar and then the deal was done between the 2 clubs and I suspect the reason he’s just starting to make the bench now is because he was way behind the others in terms of fitness. 😉
…added to that his heeds not quite right because he took a wrong turn and ended up in sunderland which understandably gave him flashbacks to war torn Ukraine 😆

      (Quote)

  42. @Bootsy

Pardew is out of his depth as a premier league manager. 😆

He’s the second longest serving manager. 😆

The facts are, he’s a capable premier league manager. Never going to be one of the best but certainly not out of his depth.

I do fear for him this season though as he’s got very little to work with. No strike force could really cripple us this season.

      (Quote)

  43. I think tactically Pardew will cost us more goals than any good striker can replace… there I said it.. it’s out there!

      (Quote)

  44. Alan Pardew has not given up on Papiss Cisse being Newcastle’s goal hero once again 🙄

So Alan hasnt been able to sign anyone I assume. I suppose its Ashleys fault as Alan is just a coach & was only lying about his involvement of the Abeid deal 🙄

      (Quote)

  45. @882

I agree, His style of footy doesnt create enough chances, he likes to keep us on the backfoot 😀

Alan said..The chances he was given last season didn’t really help his cause and there were a lot of games where he trawled through for us because we never created enough chances for him. 😛

“I think with Papiss that there’s a possibility that he could score a lot of goals in this team so I wouldn’t write him off by any stretch of the imagination. 😛

      (Quote)

  46. Mark, reading between the lines regarding Papiss… Pardz is basically saying “I Pardewed him last season” 😆

      (Quote)

  47. I have faith in Cisse scoring goals if the chances are created for him. Still doesn’t change the fact we need another proven striker. We also need a CB.

I’d love to see Remy come back. A bid to take Alderweireld from under the noses of Sunderland would be great business or Micah Richards or Nastasic from city.

    Think I’m dreaming again 🙄

      (Quote)

  48. “A bid to take Alderweireld from under the noses of Sunderland”…eh! isn’t he going to Arsenal( allegedly)?

      (Quote)

  49. Richie

Sunderland are apparently in for him along with Spurs and Southampton.

It’s all just allegedly like….Just depends on what rag you read

      (Quote)

  50. “last season for example we started with a 4-0 humping off City, got a point off West Ham at fekn home 0-0 followed by scraping through the league cup game with 2 late goals from the Ameobis ffs.”

I tried to make that point the other day, Its virtually identical to last season apart from the performances have been better

    It will click

      (Quote)

  51. Oblong… I’d read Southampton and Spurs were after him but it was pretty much a done deal for Arsenal…all rag **** like.

    CC…Begone with your positivity!! 😉

      (Quote)

  52. A shame if true, they better have a decent CB lined up or I’ll be marching straight down to St James’ to jump up and down and stamp my feet, there’ll be hell on I tell ya!!!

      (Quote)

  53. You’ll be out of breath after the march so the jumping up and down probably won’t happen! 😆
Agree though.. hopefully it is Richards..

      (Quote)

  54. RICHIE@889 the lad has said this morning he does not want to go to the scum, think I can understand that 😀 but once again that a rag storey but would go along with it

      (Quote)

  55. Richards is good if he can stay fit if not we could be fecked with 2 sicknote defenders in him and Saylor plus Colo’s had injuries the last couple of seasons which will probably get worse due to his age, that could leave us with Willo as the mainstay 😯

      (Quote)

  56. On Yanga-M’biwa, do you think that Pards doesn’t rate him or simply see’s him as a too similar player to Colo so is not keen on playing them together?

      (Quote)

  57. Ice…Aye, I hadn’t actually read owt about him going there and I’d have been shocked if he actually wanted too

      (Quote)

  58. Oblong…A bit of both I suspect, I’d have had him in ahead of Colo and had Colo as back up…assuming Mbiwa did ok that is.

      (Quote)

  59. A fit Richards is a beast of a defender. . I think Pardz has zero faith in Mbiwa.. he really has two dodgey defenders as back up in Saylor and Mbiwa.. dont blame him for looking elsewhere.

      (Quote)

  60. I’m just putting 0 and 0 together and getting 26 here, but…….

Nastasic is far to good to be 4th choice CB at City he would walk into our back four with his right leg chopped off. Surely he would be a better option than Richards even just on loan?

Get this as well. HE CAN PLAY AT LEFT BACK!!!! Perfect for Pards!
