Colback earns England call

Newcastle new boy Jack Colback has impressed since his summer move from Wearside to Tyneside.

It’s early days but his performances thus far have quelled some discontent voiced by fans who initially opposed the move for a Sunderland player.

And it would seem that it’s not only fans of United who have been impressed by the 24-year-old as he’s earned a call up to the England squad for the upcoming games against Norway and Switzerland.

Killingworth born Colback has represented England before at Under-20 level with his one and only appearance at that level coming in a 2-0 win against their Italian counterparts in March 2009. Colback will link up with his international colleagues after the Crystal Palace match on Saturday and will be hoping to make his debut either in the friendly against Norway or in the first group game of the qualifying campaign against Switzerland a week on Monday.

There is also good news for Rolando Aarons who has been selected by England U20’s for their forthcoming game against Romania. That would still leave Jamaican born Aarons free to represent his birth country should he choose to do so at a later date.

Defender Jamaal Lascelles has also been called up to the Under-21 setup. Signed from Nottingham Forest before returning to the City Ground on loan, Lascelles has never featured for us but is likely to link up with us next season after another season of gaining regular first-team football.

Paul Dummet has been drafted into the Wales squad for the match against Andorra while Rob Elliot is part of a 36-man squad selected for Ireland for their games against Oman and Georgia. Dutch duo Daryl Janmaat and Tim Krul will link up with Holland as they face Italy and Czech Republic.

It’s always nice to see players from your club represented at international level. Being English and a United fan it hasn’t happened often that I can follow one of my own on the international stage – the last one was Andy Carroll – which gives me personally an extra interest in the England which I often lack. And for Jack, or any central midfielder, there are vacancies to fill in the first team after the retirements of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

Now I just have to worry about them all staying injury free…

  1. Krul
    New guy; Colo
    Janmaat; Tiote; Santon
    Sissoko; Colback
    De Jong
    Riviere; Cabella

Let’s call the new guy Micah Richards, but some other bod will do, as long as he’s got some speed about him (speed as in quickness, not the drug). As long as he’s not a dope (as in hopeless, not the drug) he’d be my choice ahead of Willo.

Wing backs burning grass (the pitch, not the drugs) out wide. Tiote at the base (defensive position, not the drug) of a diamond midfield, and De Jong making hay (as in taking advantage of things, not growing drugs) at the top.

That’d be as cool as a coke and ice on a summer’s day (that’s the drink and frozen water kind, not the drugs). Even Pardew couldn’t make a hash of that team (as in mess, not the drug). I’m sure it’d score (goals, that is, not drugs).

A comparatively straightforward game like the one this weekend would be the acid test of how good we are (that’s acid test as in testing success, nothing to do with drugs). Crystal Palace (that’s Crystal as in whatever it is, nothing to do with drugs).

I’d like to see that while I’m supping my **** and having a *** (yes, of course I mean the drugs).

  2. 2 if you count my little offering – perhaps best used in the international break, if at all. 😆 It’s not what you would call ‘usual fare’.

  3. Ice

Each to their own I say. 😉

Some like to talk forthright and get straight to the point. They can’t be bothered with patting one another on the back to the point where the small group all whoop and wail at each other’s comments. It gets that cosy, the subject changes to the soaps what shopping they’ve bought that day. 🙄

Though you may not like the blunt talk, which is only related to football, except my craic with Aussie, then equally, I find your conversations tame, boring and happy clappy. 😉

But it’s each their own. I dread 10pm onwards. It’s like a scene from the Waltons. 😛

  4. Troy, it is a bit rich when you say you are trying to stop the **** banter.. you are normally at the heart of it all! 😆 😆
That said, I join in the fun some times so I am not one to judge.. 😮

  5. Pardew quashed rumours linking the club with a move for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, and the Magpies boss admitted players will have to leave in order for more to come in.

Reports in France have suggested Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who is also out of tomorrow’s game through injury, has agreed to join Marseille on loan, although Pardew refused to comment on any speculation, including a reported fresh approach for Loic Remy.

  6. Aussie

Eh??? I thought Ice was talking about you & Begas! 😯

    Not me. 😛

    Aussie

If it wasn’t for us stirring it up, it would be Ice Ice & his babies having a hug fest. 😛

Ice doesn’t have strong views. That’s fair enough. But to comment that some are point scoring is pathetic really. It’s called passionate views interspersed with a bit of Tom Foolery to keep it light hearted. 😉

Ice has always disappeared as soon as friction starts. Apparently he hides in the cupboard at home when the dog barks. 😛

  7. Troy, I have no issue with Icedog mate.. I enjoy my banter with him, so please don’t drag me into your beef with him. 😉
I enjoy our banter as well, both are different but still it makes this blog interesting and a laugh.. The only thing that get’s on my goat are all the hissy fits you chuck 😆 .. but I am getting used of them now.. 😛

  8. Haha. I would never have mentioned Ice if he hadn’t tried to point score. 😛

Aussie, you’ve had some explosions lately. It’s been a pleasure to watch.
Stuart must be sitting in his throne, smoking cigars and drinking port, howling at his victories over you 😛
