Transfer Wrap – Deadline Day

Well I awoke this morning, quickly made myself a coffee and switched on my tablet and headed straight to the Newsnow link to catch up on all the last minute deals we were working on in the dying hours of the transfer window. I must admit as the page on the tablet was populating, I felt a little trepidation based on our recent performances on deadline day.

Not again!
Not again!

From there it only took but a moment to realise that most of the headlines were centred around the loan departure of Yanga Mbiwa to Roma and a last minute loan deal for Ben Arfa to go to Hull. I then doubled check all the headlines looking for a small glimmer of hope that we had replaced these players but there was none to be found. Even now I am struggling to see the sense of letting these players go without replacing them. I can understand it if they are wanting to clear some space in the squad for new signings but you think the next logical step would be to fill those space with new signings. Both of the players we have let go have not figured prominently in the first team in the second half of last season and the start of this one. But what they do offer is options should we need them. We have now removed any chance of utilising these players and we are probably going to look at some of our younger guys to fill the void. To be honest I am all for giving the younger lads a go but we tried this the season after we finished 5th and look how that played out. We now have a high number of inexperienced premier league players and the board are playing a dangerous game going into this season proper.

Maybe there is some greater master plan that the board has in mind. Come January we will fill the gaps in the squad and the master plan will be complete. It is one hell of a gamble if this is indeed the thought process behind these two players been loaned out. Sure there is a financial benefit but it is hardly break the bank stuff if you ask me. So once again Toon fans have been left wondering “what if” (or what the f*ck) at the end of another transfer window. We have seemingly fallen one or two steps short of doing a really good job once again. Even as I am typing this up, I can barely muster any positive thoughts as I contemplate the aftermath of another deadline day.

What are your thoughts?

  1. TDS – I don’t think I said my opinions are more valid than yours. Why do people make things up like that? I said my opinions have been shown to be consistently correct about NUFC under this regime. That’s a fact. You’re opinions are absolutely valid, it just happens that the likelihood is they’ll be wrong because they differ from mine and mine are usually correct when it involved Ashley’s NUFC.

My opinions can’t be wrong. My predictions might be but my opinions are my opinions and just as valid as yours.

So you think we’ll struggle against relegation this season? That’s your opinion/prediction?

      (Quote)

  3. TDS – As I said, you’re opinions are just as valid as mine – just wrong! 😆

As for relegation – I don’t think we will get relegated, but I think there’s a bloody good chance we will be down there with the likes of QPR, Leicester and Palace. Also there’s a good chance we will bring in a striker in January if we’re looking like a relegation candidate. Of course this will be funded by selling Tiote. 🙄

    My prediction is 14th.

  4. Is it true that all our current centre halves will be out of contract at the end of next season, have an average age of 32 and are timed in races with a calendar? If that is true, it really shows the ineptitude of our club when it comes to transfers.

Colo, Williamson and Saylor are contracted to June 2016.
The better news is that Mbiwa has a contract until June 2018– Oh, just a minute ——-

      (Quote)

  6. Stu – Sunderland got 14th last season with 38 points. Swansea were 12th with 42 points.
I reckon we will get around that many points – but who knows what position that will get us. 33 points was the relegation figure last season – I reckon we’ll get more than that at least. That is so long as we don’t get hit too badly with injuries.

      (Quote)

  7. STUART

Wow. You think our squad is just as good as Leicester’s, QPR’s and Palace’s? That’s frankly bizarre…

  8. TDS
‘We need to have players with the potential of playing for the likes of Liverpool.
Krul, Santon, Janmaat, Sissoko, Tiote, Colback, SDJ, Rivière and Cabella from our first team. I’d add Haidara, Arma and Aarons from our others’

Seriously? I think Brenda would laugh his socks off at most of those. You are also making a big assumption that Pardew is capable of nuturing their talent 😯

      (Quote)

  9. DEB

I’d say that the likes of Debuchy, Cabaye, Aarons and Tiote have come on pretty well.

And my list isn’t player that Liverpool would want to sign now, but all players with promise that could be at that level in a season or two.

      (Quote)

  10. One issue which bugs me is the sheer lack of entertainment when watching the toon. We are so labourious, and painfully slow moving forward. Without the thought of jack-in-the-box Aarons lighting up the season I’d be pretty despondent. It’s going to be a long hard season.

      (Quote)

  11. TDS @124 – I agree if you can’t get the player you want then keep the money. I’ve openly backed the new signings and haven’t changed from that. But I also think that Pardew is not the man to develop them, in fact I think he’s inept.

When you look at Georgios post @112, those figures don’t lie. For me we need him out. Yes we also need Ashley out more, but the football under Pardew has been awful.

      (Quote)

  12. We loaned Benny to a rival PL club and loaned MYM out paying 80% of his wages …. Did fucking JFK make a guess appearance at SJP on fucking transfer deadline day or what?!.
I wonder if Hull are paying all of Benny’s wages?, or if we are contributing to Marvs wages?.
I wonder if Jonas is still on that beach?

      (Quote)

  13. Sharpy, And that in a nut shell could be part of the reason no one arrived because we are still outlaying wages on players no longer with us. It’s bizarre but obviously Pards and jabba feel those particular players have become a distraction for what ever reason. In the case of Mbiwa that must be the case as the lad did have talent and wasn’t too bad when played at CB he has also alluded to a break down in relationship with Pards .So now it seems our manager has fallen out with Benny, Marv, Mbiwa and told Jonas to go too. Also what has happened to Bigi? this guy was Championship apprentice of the year was he not. I fear for young Aarons I really do and I also won’t be surprised if Pards falls out with Cabella in time.

      (Quote)

  14. Kim – why though?!, I mean they knew the whole window that they needed to reduce the wage bill!. The respect to him Jonas was the main one to get rid of coz they won’t play him coz of this clause – he’s still with us!. I don’t mind loaning MYM out, but I can’t believe still paying 80% of his wage was the best option we’ve had all window. If Pardew wanted Benny gone so badly, loan him to Lyon or another French club – not a PL rival. You’re right, Pardew has not been able to manage the players you’ve mentioned – I’d add Cisse to that list also.
Also, how pissed off is Colo going to be that both these players have got there move, coz Pardew can’t manage them. But he couldn’t get his move when his personal life was suffering so badly. I wonder if that has been a contributing factor to his **** poor form so far?! – it happened with Cabs at the start of last season.

      (Quote)

  15. so moving on,….. lets look at the next 4 fixtures and compare them to last season shall we.
1)Southampton away, lost 0-4 last season. 0 points
    2) Hull City home, lost 2-3 last season. 0 points
    3) Stoke City away, lost 0-1 last season. 0 points
    4) Swansea City away, lost 0-3 last season. 0 points
Any one fancy predicting how many points we will take from these 4 this season.
If we struggle, I predict Percy will be gone long before xmas.
The fans will turn on him at every opportunity from now on and make his life a living hell. We saw how he handled it badly in just one match last season. It will be much worse if we don’t start performing and getting points on the board.
btw have yous seen the December fixtures too ❓ ‘gulp’
    .

  16. If we were prepared to pay 80% of his wages he would have joined Marseille, St Ettiene or Lens months back

Dont believe that figure at all

  17. Southampton 3-0 Newcastle Sadly I don’t feel confident away
Newcastle 2-1 Hull 90th minute winner
Stoke 2-1 Newcastle Sadly colocini switches off for a second
Swansea 2-0 Newcastle Sadly they have bony, shelvey, gomes

      (Quote)

  18. CC – why?, if they were going to lie about it, why 80%? – why not 50% or full whack?.

Boots – I want Pardew out now. If we stick with him, then **** it, I hope we go down!. I’m sick of watching defence minded football

  19. Kim @ 165 Spot on.
His biggest problem is his own ego.
I believe he also had a spat with Colo too at some point.
He is a dead man walking imho.
Give him enough rope he’ll hang himself eventually.
Many fans are starting to fully realise what a charlatan he really is.
The sooner he goes the better.
I’ll take Pullis or who ever. I no longer care. I just want Pardew OUT

      (Quote)

  20. We will be mighty lucky to get 1 point from that run, Hull at home should get us that, forget them others imo.

      (Quote)

  21. I predict this is the start of the spiral that will cost Pardew his job, and will have the toon seriously flirting with relegation.
If we don’t pick up points soon, score some goals, and have a general improvement in our style of football, the fans will be all over Pardew.
Who can forget the last game of the season when the bloke was too scared to come out of the dugout because of the boos ?
Of course there will be the usual Pardew supporters coming out in his defence, whilst ignoring the fact that over the last 6 months his record has been absolutrely dire.

      (Quote)

  22. The reason it didnt happen for the french clubs was we were demanding they pay 80% of his wages with us paying 20.

Are we really going to then flip it for a much larger/richer club in the champions league

    I dont belive it

      (Quote)

  23. BB, I know that under Jabba we won’t land a top manager, but we do need a different one, preferably one that likes to attack and will set us up that way. Oh and if he can have a bit of dignity on the touchline all the better.

      (Quote)

  24. CC, well say you are right and it’s not 80% then in that case there is absolutely no excuse not to bring in a defender at least as the wage is not an issue. Word amongst the journos last night was that we never had any intention of bringing in a CB at all, simply weren’t looking.

      (Quote)

  25. Terry – good luck with that mate, I would go more like 3 points from the first 7 games if I’m honest.
Our squad has been considerably weakend from last season. Our new signings are still getting to grips with Percy’s non-football techniques.
I would just like to add, for the record, under no circumstances do I want us relegated. Hopefully a change of coach will help us to survive.

      (Quote)

  26. Kim – I heard it was the French clubs who wanted us to pay 80% but mash would only pay 20% max.
I reckon that’s what he got in the end too.
He usually gets what he wants, eventually.
I also think Percy has been told to use his yoof players in the 1st team squad, to get them in the shop window.
The kids will get slaughtered by certain fans and called ****. Won’t be Parsnips fault tho 😛

      (Quote)

  27. Kim

I heard we tried for Nastasic who refused to join us and about half a dozen others and Alderweireld chose saints over us. We should have pulled the plug on the MYM/Roma deal as soon as both were no go but as i said earlier im not sure pardew was that bothered about him going.

He was playing Satka and Streete at centre half pre season with MYM at right back. He also stopped Curtis Good going out on loan again earlier in the window maybe he was anticipating this ??

      (Quote)

  28. BB, The whole set up is poor now, it’s sad that he won’t invest properly with a couple of top notch players and decent coach to push us on .

  29. Munich – I love the club to bits and honesty never thought I’d find myself saying that. But under this lot, it’s how I’m feeling mate. I think the drop is the only thing that would have Ashley get rid of Pardew.
It may also be the kick up the **** for Ashley to sell the club.
I’m totally uninspired by the football we play under Pardew mate.

I predict this is the start of the spiral that will cost Pardew his job,

Mate, I think you will find that spiral started Jan 1st this year.
Could do without this 2 week break really, but not having time to prepare will be another excuse he can’t call on.
Just like he cant use the excuse of Benny’s bad influence over the team anymore.
The excuses are running out rapidly, and he has nowhere left to hide.
We are in the end game at last.

  31. What have I learnt today. 😎

    1. Aussie has refused to predict where he believes the toon will finish.
That is because he’s chicken and frightened of ridicule. 😛

    2. Begas suffers from a debilitating condition of head shaking. 😛

Actually , number 1, I was always aware Aussie hated ridicule 😛

  32. Begas must be like one of the nodding Churchill dogs in the back of cars, constantly shaking his head. 😛

    Yesh 😆

  33. Alan Pardew is fighting for his future as Newcastle United manager, just four games into the new season. The Independent understands there has been a change of mood within the club towards Pardew.

The Newcastle owner Mike Ashley stood by the 53-year-old last season when he head-butted the Hull midfielder David Meyler, although he was fined £100,000 and accepted a formal warning for his behaviour. However, the club spent nearly £40 million on nine new players in the transfer window and there has failed to be an upturn in results.

Pardew’s lack of popularity with the club’s support at the end of last season was such that he could not even stand in his technical area for the final home game at St James’ Park because of the abuse he faced. Yet there was a determination from within the club to stand by the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League and ride out the storm.

That attitude appears to have cooled in light of a winless start to the Premier League season and an inability to arrest a slump that goes back towards the beginning of the year. That run is beginning to cause concern with the Newcastle board and the reaction to the decision to omit Hatem Ben Arfa from first-team activities in the summer and then let him join Hull late on transfer deadline day has further cranked up hostility in the stands.

Newcastle face Southampton a week on Saturday and then entertain Hull at St James’ Park the following week. That has the possibility to be another afternoon of hostility for Pardew, who must also contend with the antagonistic element of Ben Arfa being in the visiting dugout (the French winger cannot play against his parent club as a loaned player).

Those two games are now believed to be crucial to the future of Pardew.

    Newcastle 0-2 man city
    Villa 0-0 Newcastle
    Newcastle 3-3 Palace
    Southampton 3-0 Newcastle
    Newcastle 2-1 Hull
    Stoke 2-1 Newcastle
    Swansea 2-0 Newcastle
5 points out of 7 games. Sorry I hate to see Newcastle lose. I get no pleasure out of it. If we had a descent striker and new centre back in my opinion might have been different.

  37. Sadly we have put ourselves in a dangerous position relegation wise. We haven’t spent money to improve the team in 5 years. We wont get away with it forever.

  38. Troy, I will make a prediction similar to your “we will be in the relegation zone”
Here goes – we will end up in the mid table zone.

Like you, it will give me plenty of scope to wriggle and squirm when some one calls me on it later in the season. 😉 😛 😛

  39. Troy…Well that’ll teach you to listen to ex players, for future reference if you get any info from Beardsley who is obviously a lot closer to the “regime” the info will be just as bad, trust me! 😉

  40. Aussie

Well done. That’s all I wanted. So you are conforming we won’t be in a relegation battle. That’s all I wanted. 😛
    Post 201 3/9/14 saved.

    Richie
Haha. I’ve spoke to Beardo loads of times. I agree, he knows as much as Aussie 😛

    Begas
You really must get to the docs with that condition. Your head will fall off it continues. 😛

  41. A slight flaw in the “I hope we get relegated” plan, “If” Ashley were stupid enough to leave Pard’s in charge until we were actually relegated then then why would he suddenly sack him then? Chances are he wouldn’t, if he’d kept him that long then he’d likely give him the chance to bring us back up! 🙄
Personally I want Pard’s gone (and Ashley) while we’re still a Premier League team and not for us to get relegated and then Pard’s to go, but hey ho each to their own, even JJ’s “I want to lose every game until Pard’s goes” comment made more sense than “I want us to get relegated”…that I believe says it all about that rational 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  42. Troy…He’s feckin hopeless 😆 …he’s not a fan of Pard’s like 😯
I have know a lad who works at the club and he rarely passes owt on especially with regards to transfers as he says ‘it can be nailed on when he starts to tell you something and complete bollox by the time he finishes the sentence and that only about 3 people at the club ever knows what really goes on”

      (Quote)

  43. Richie

I take it the 3 people doesn’t include Pards? 😆

Meanwhile, Begas’ head continues to shake. He’s now been shaking his head for days now. 😯

      (Quote)

  44. Richie – if we could get rid of Pardew without being relegated then of course I’d prefer that. But we’ve won only 5 games so far this year, add that to the head butting incident and I would say there enough there to have sacked Pardew already – yet he hasn’t. Which suggests to me that Ashley will hold on to his puppet to the very end. But if he gets us relegated, then that’s gonna cost the club money – and Ashley won’t have that. Or that’s my thinking anyway, based off him getting rid of JFK in Jan.
If we could get rid of Pardew and his coaching team without getting relegated then excellent. All I’m saying is its got to the point that that’s what I’m prepared to see happen if it gets the results.

  45. @Troy..

I know mate, a book signing at the metro centre. SuperMac know feckall whats happening at the Toon. Pardew doesnt even know.

I’m not surprised you were so gullible and naive in believing that story.. 😆 🙄

  46. @Mark

I give everyone a first chance. I even gave the two Australians a first chance. That’s all they got though. Their subsequent posts have been scoffed at since. 😛

      (Quote)

  47. Sharpy…My point is if we looked like being in serious danger then Ashley would get rid of him before we got relegated, if he keeps him in charge while we get relegated then he’d more than likely give him the chance to get us back up. Managers generally get sacked prior to relegation, the ones that survive it often stay in charge.
I’m sorry but I just don’t understand the relegation comments, why not just say you want Pard’s gone instead? You’re committed now, if Pards goes next week you have to stick with your wanting relegation comment 😉 😆

Like I said yesterday, the fans are gonna turn and that’s what is most likely to get rid of him, whether it is him quitting or getting the push. Managers don’t generally survive a prolonged “wrath of the crowd”

      (Quote)

  48. So Cabella has been told to beef-up to handle the physical side of the prem. I’m sure this was aimed at Ben Arfa before he became a lard-****.

  49. If pardew is still here, if we do get relegated, the likelihood is he’ll remain to get us back up.

Told me not to be so negative.

Sharpy is now only predicting 42 pts. 7pts less than last season. !

You’s are all in reverse and going to plunge in the sea if you don’t look in your mirrors and slow down. 😛
