How much do you want the three points?

Yeah, yeah, I know. The potential sacking of Alan Pardew has certainly dominated discussions of late but I thought I would throw a few hypothetical questions out to you all on the eve of our game against Hull.

Is he worth it?
Is he worth it?

Without a win this season, we are currently sitting at the foot of the table and we are desperately in need of a win to boost morale and secure a much needed three points. On any other occasion, the three points on offer would be first and foremost in importance in nearly every fans minds. However as all things anti Alan Pardew have transpired of late, would the three points be a good thing this weekend? Would we be better off, losing this game with the hope that it brings an end to Pardews tenure as our manager? Of course there are no guarantees that Pardew will be fired come Monday after a loss. But what if it does bring an end to his reign, would it all be worth the three points on offer tomorrow?

Let me know what you think!

  1. I’m just not determined to be miserable and see demons in every shadow.

Maybe I am easily pleased. Just love watching football.

  2. <<<<<<<<< thought we played some decent footie meself condeed 2 screamers but whether the 2nd should of been block is another debate 😐 also think cisse just bought pards another week.Tiote had a decent game.Said when we were first linked with cabella he wernt worth more than 7 million and still aint seen nothing to change that view, weres all the dudes in here that said we should snap him up for 14 million 😯

  3. Bris – take nowt away from the goals. But what did he do to convert all that possession we had to actually scoring a goal?. What is he doing to Rivieres confidence? coz the poor kid looks lost along up there!.
We are neither creating chances for the lad or getting the support up there to help him!.
Why start with 2 CFs on the bench when your line forward can’t buy a fucking goal?.

So it was better than the Saints game, well it couldn’t have got any worse really could it.
Good the players showed some heart and fight – as they pissing well should!. But Pardew changed NOTHING from last week.

  4. Encouraging from Cisse but others had terrible games. Colback was very poor indeed. Pardew saved some blushes by Cisse but surely not enough to stop Ashley from sacking him? Three points from 5 games and now we have 2 away against Stoke and Swansea. It’s all so stale and pathetic. Pardew stuck with Riviere by himself up front for most of the game again when everyone can see Riviere is lost. Get Pardew out Mike.

  5. What is it going to take Mike? Do we have to play 15 games and stay in the bottom 3 for you to see what is plain to everyone else? How many other managers would have started with Riviere alone up front today at home? It’s absolute bollocks.

  6. He needs to start two up top. Or go to a three man front. But he wouldn’t even play two strikers when we were down 2-0

  7. I guess, if you’re determined to see the negatives then you’ll see them. Nothing changed, except we dominated the game this time and played some good football.

  8. <<<<<<<<<< thinks Riviere will look alot better with 2 up front same as cisse none of them are a lone striker and both score more when they got some1 up with them

  9. More of the same then? More Pardew starting Riviere up front by himself? More Ashley sitting there looking clueless? More poor home draws and away losses? How long will Ashley allow us to sit in the bottom 3? This is stupid even for Ashley.

  10. What is the plan here Mike? Please explain to us. We are absolutely diabolical most of the time. The first half bored me to tears. We have to be one of the weakest home teams in the Prem. We have a manager who is terrified to attack until he is desperate because we are 2-0 down. How much more of this? Sell up Mike. You’re more pathetic than Pardew.

  12. Bris – If you take the rosé tinted specs off you’ll see things for what they are. I’m not saying it’s all negatives, what I’m saying is that I’ve not seen anything today that would suggest to me that Pardew is just having a bad spell.
It’s perspective not negative. We were at home to Hull – we should be dominating the game. But there is only the score line that counts, and we were 2 nil down despite all that possession.
Pardew has just said on SSN that Cisse has only trained 3 days this week, and he didnt intend playing him. So he’s gambled with a player again.
They played better today, coz they were terrible last week. But how many real chances do you remember mate? – be honest.

  13. About 5 or 6.

I don’t have rose tinted glasses – they’re black and white. And I can see just fine with them on. Obviously better than most.

  14. Bris – to put it another way. We’re Hull lucky today? Did they rob us of all 3 points? Did they look more dangerous in attack with 2 up front?

  15. So Pardew now back tracking already. At the start of the season he thought we could push for CL but now he says we can’t compete for too 6! so we can no longer expect to comprte with Everton? Just what is the point?

Personally I am now finished with NUFC. My season ticket is being cancelled in January and I won’t be going to any games until that day ******* has left.

  16. In my opinion Pardew set up the team to draw. How else do explain one up front on his own and Dummet replacing Haidara who was man of the match at Southampton (the rest being rubbish.) For all our possesion in the first half the Hull goalkeeper only had one save to make. In the second half Hull missed an open goal which would have given them all three points. Draws at home to average teams are no longer acceptable given the position we are already in.

  17. Got to give Pardew some credit – a stroke of genius and a game changer bringing on Perez with just a minute to go. Who said he is not committed to attack?

  18. Got to say that all the hype over Colback in pre season has proved to be another false dawn. Offers nothing

      (Quote)

  19. Well it was a bit better from the players than last week but same old **** tactics from the get go. He says Cisse only trained for 3 days and he didn’t intend to play him. So why put him on the subs bench then 😕 how much of a gamble has he taken with his rehabilitation by playing him, I hope it’s not another Siem situation. I hope he has thanked Cisse for saving his blushes, remember if Cisse wasn’t fit we’d of lost today no mistake.

  20. how much do we pay for cabella? does he offer anymore than Marv? even Obertan 😯

Rivi has done nowt for me, shame we won’t see the best of him if we keep playing defensively. Pay the price on strikers or we’ll struggle. Lucky for us Cisse was injured before the summer, probably stopped someone buying him.

  21. Just watched Pardews SSN int again and he openly acknowledged that they leave Riv isolated up there and didnt create for him. If he knows that, why keep doing it to the lad?.
Rivière will probably need 3-5 chances a game to score and at the moment he’s lucky if we get him 1-2 per game.
I don’t think Gouffran or Sissoko bring enough personally and dare I say it, but I’d consider Sammy and Obertan wide in a 4-4-2 formation

    1. Yes, in that two half chances went their way
    2. Oviously, because if their two goals hadn’t gone in we would have won.
    3. No.

The result wasn’t what we wanted (well, some of us – some must have been pissing themselves with excitement when we were 2 down). And it’s something of a fall from grace to be glad to get a point at home to Hull. And having Riviere alone up front obviously has limitations. Agree with all that.

But, putting aside the gloom specs, seeing the football in the context of the game, as a football match, how did we go?

To my mind it was entertaining and engaging. That is, it had me experiencing a great variety of emotions – positive and negative – throughout the game. That’s how I gauge football entertainment.

I’m not going to get into tactics, formations and talk about what Pardew should have done. I watch football as a fan and lover of the game, not as an analyst. I have no time for armchair managers who think they know best and who can safely say anything they want as the’ll never be held to account on a football field. Though I love reading a good objective tactical analysis – rather than the flimsy nonsense we see on here.

I think the lads put in a great effort. There was some decent attack-minded football on display from Newcastle and Hull showed some compact defending. I felt we should have taken all three points, although circumstances meant that I was glad to get one. And I was impressed by the fighting qualities of the team.

I thought the crowd played well as well.
