Our next game.

This weekend sees our lads take on Spurs. We were originally supposed to be playing this game on Saturday the 25th but due to Spurs Europa league commitments the game has been pushed back to Sunday.

Spurs v Mags
Spurs v Mags

That’s a bit of a shame really because it would have been nice to catch them tired after a game on Thursday. Mind you I am basing that on how well we played when we backed up after a Europa league fixture, so maybe I might be reading a little more into it than I should be. Saying that though, Spurs have flattered to deceive a little this season, their form in the past six games has seen them take only five point from a possible eighteen compared to our massive haul of six points. So maybe I should be feeling a little more confident about things going into this game. Couple this with the fact that we won the corresponding fixture 0-1 last season and all things suddenly start looking a little brighter. This one is a hard one to call, actually all of our games are hard to call when you take into account our indifferent form. If we turn up and put in a real shift, I think we can trouble Spurs. Their recent run of form is no better than ours so they could be ripe for the picking. From what I can gather at this stage we should have everyone that started the last game fit and ready to play. Spurs will be without Fredrico Fazio due to a red card but I have no real insight to their player injuries to be honest. For me Erikson and Chadli are the players to watch out for. They have both been the stand out players thus far from the games I have seen them play in. The both play with a lot  of energy and we will need to shut them down to limit their influence on the game. For us, I would like to see Sissoko and Gouffran lift their game and have more of an impact on proceedings. To be honest, I would like to see them both benched as a bit of a kick up the backside they both need. It won’t happen so let’s move on…

I am not sure whether I should even bother with formations because we really only play the one and from what I have seen of Spurs, they line up the same way. So expect to see Soldado and Cisse running aimlessly around their forward lines as they try and play in a system that doesn’t suit them.

So to summarize, I really think we can snatch a point or three from this fixture, Spurs are not playing well and they will be tired from a mid week game. All we will need to do is defend well…actually… forget the point or three call… I will be happy with the away point 🙂

How do you think we will go?

  2. Man oh man what a pleasant surprise that was 🙂

    Sissoko man…what a beast of a performance…

  3. Bloody great result.
He just has to pick the right starting eleven. Get rid of the donkeys.

  4. Woo hoo! **** first half and good tenacious play in the 2nd. Great win. Well done the lads. Well done Pardew.

  5. Huge win!!!

Pards got it spot in the second half. He needs to do it at the start now.

Pup hope to see you on each week from now on mate:)

  6. Pup I was thinking that it was because I cracked a bottle of dog open at halftime 😉 as it was a bit early for a bottle of red 😀
I do think Pards got his subs right today so I think he has to take some credit

  7. Well it’s well done to us in the second half. Pardew made good subs and they paid dividends. After a horrible first half I thought it was all over but the turn around was amazing. Hats off to the lads and Pardew. Shocking display by Spurs in the second half. Their owner should sack Levy. How many managers has he gone through in the last few seasons? 😀

  8. Hated us first half, but very impressed in the second. Fair play to Percy for the subs but so wish he’d set us up attacking from the start . Sissoko was ace and Saylor did well again too. Sammy was a breath of fresh air when he came on.

  9. I’ll eat my words to Sharpy in particular now. I just can’t believe that second half. We looked like we were completely defeated in the first half. Lost nearly all the 50/50 balls. Then Sammy comes on and turns the game around. Class header by Perez as well. Hats off to the club.

  10. Kim you are so right. Pardew’s hand was forcesd today otherwise we were in for a spanking. Lets hope we can take a more attacking attitude to the Liverpool game.

  11. G2@260, we always were reliant on the Ameobis, it looks like things aren’t going to change any time soon 😆 😆

  12. I can’t believe we won. We are now 14th 🙂 Can we go one better next week against Liverpool ? I hope so

  13. It does seem that way Munich mate @262. Sammy slotted it right in there. Totally took the wind out of the Spurs sails. They had no response in the second half. Pochettino will be looking for a job soon enough. Levy is hopeless. They are struggling for form in the league as we have been.

  14. Kim you were so right. Pardew’s hand was forced today .otherwise we were in for a spanking. We were going nowhere. Lets hope we can take a more attacking attitude to the Liverpool game.

    Fat fingers I’m afraid.

  15. That looked like a tired Spurs side in the second half. It does show what the Europa league does to you. The Thursday matches are killers. The league should have a good look at that. Europa qualifiers don’t always have deep squads and playing 2 matches in 3 days is too much. Spurs should have enough depth to cover it though.

  16. Brilliant three points.

Credit to Pardew for getting them going second half.

But it was reactive management at its best. Shocking decision to start eight the line up he origanally had.

Pisses me off that he was telling Sammi to play deeper when it was him giving Perez some support that changed the game.

Colback much better second half and Sissoko was world class.

Amazing how good he looked when played in the middle.

Can’t credit Pardew for changes he should have started off with in the first place.

  17. Strange days indeed in the Prem this season with West Ham in 4th. A few manager sackings on the way as well it appears.

      (Quote)

  18. If anything today just showed how little Troy knows…

The players actually do have some ability when implemented correctly.

Unfortunately our manager just doesn’t have a cooking clue.

      (Quote)

  19. Impossible to predict this team. Jekyll and Hyde. The second half was very decent after another dross first half. Where does that leave us going forward? No way to know. Liverpool will be desperate for points. I still think the season will be a very rough ride for us overall.

      (Quote)

  20. Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed that second half. Pochettino just stood there. Completely lost. Levy did not look happy either. 😆 Loved it.

      (Quote)

  21. Hats off to Janmaat, Rose was giving him a right battering, but he stuck with it.
Once Rose ran out of steam Spuds had nothing to offer. Thought our whole defence did well in the second half, well done Staylor and Collo too ! Credit where it’s due 😉

      (Quote)

  22. Today showed why Dummett plays, he can defend he’s no nonsense, he kept Lamela out of the game and got chemistry with Sammy who deserve to get more and more playing time. He got pace, skills, decent left foot, and can win headers when we have to hoof it. Taylor showed leadership, as Colback Sissoko and Janmaat. Krul and Coloccini were comfortable. Gouffran did well too, and should come as sub to bring fresh legs and help us closing games. Nice victory. For Liverpool game :
    —————————–Krul——————————
    Janmaat——–Taylor——–Coloccini—-Dummett
    ————————–Tioté———————————
    —————Colback———Sissoko———————
    —-Cabella———————————–Sammy——-
    ————————Ayoze/Cissé————————–
And keep Aarons as impact sub, we have to work for the win against Liverpool.

Sharpy17- You told me for Ayoze, he might be able to play on the flank, but **** he can finish. But Sammy proved he could also work as target man, or with Cissé a striking partner.

      (Quote)

  23. Kim – Apparently that was Sammy’s idea too.
He still had to produce the finish tho, which was superb.
    Well pleased for the Lads.
Good boost to the whole team.

  24. Well, I know for a fact, yes fact, that many on here wanted us to lose today, just so they could justify their ridiculous hatred of Pardew.
Nothing would give them more pleasure to see him sacked just so they could be proved right ( in their eyes).
What I saw today was a **** side fighting for their manager.
From the outset the players grafted their bollocking off. I’ve always maintained, Pardews biggest strength is his man management.
He gets slated on here because he falls out with players. Every manager does. The mark of a good man manager is about rallying the troops. Pards is good at that.
The players could have sat back today and lead Pards to the gallows. But they didn’t. They showed passion and heart for the manager.
I haven’t named some of the people I accuse but I will.
    Bootsy
    Aussie
    Begas
    Sharp
    Kim
    Eric
    Gte
There’s more but they are the main protagonists.
If Pards keeps us up then he’s excelled.

  25. With the arrival of young local lads and young stars, Steven Taylor seems to be more mature, we all know that in his best form he is a quality CB, hope he finally finds consistency this time.

  26. I’ve never read a bigger load of tosh Tory Boy.
“What I saw today was a **** side fighting for their manager.
From the outset the players grafted their bollocking off.”
total and utter nonsense as usual.
I think you were watching the wrong match fella.
    The first 45 mins, particularly.
    Where was the graft.
    Baloney
what you saw was how Percy sent out the Lads to try and nullify Spuds.
What you saw was 11 totally unmotivated players, totally disillusioned with life under Pardew.
What you saw was the absolute worst idea of football imaginable.
    Horse ****.
That he had the balls to change it at HT has to be recognised and credit to him for the rocket he let loose, if indeed it was his rocket and not someone elses. We’ll never know.

      (Quote)

  27. wtf.the first half we got beat to every 50/50 ball, thats not fighting for ya manager or ya sell.the second half we got stuck in,now i dont no if that was down to p45 or the players growing a backbone.

      (Quote)

  28. “Well, I know for a fact, yes fact, that many on here wanted us to lose today, just so they could justify their ridiculous hatred of Pardew.”
You keep on trotting out this load of tripe too.
Shows how very little you actually know.
I’ve never read anyone on this blog say they want us to lose ever.
you are obviously getting mixed up with Dr Ed’s blog or just making **** up again.

      (Quote)

  29. Oh aye. I forgot about you hitman. You’re on the list.
It’s quite clear those on the list want the toon to lose just so you can justify your unhealthy hatred of Pards.
They grafted from the kick off. I only deal in facts. I choose to support. Yous choose to hate. That’s where we are. Deal with it.

      (Quote)

  30. Troy, to be fair, you’re the only one that seems upset at the moment.

I see pards said post match that maybe a more open system might best suit his young players moving forward. I’m all for it.

      (Quote)

  31. Troyster, you seem to be rolling out some blather today mate 🙂

That first half today was ABSOLUTELY *****, and we have had to endure some ***** over the last months. The only ones putting in a shift were the back 5, the rest were just going through the motions. Obertan and Anita were an absolute disgrace.

Hats off to the team for turning things around in the second half. No-one saw that coming. I can see Poccetino being bladdered before long actually, the media pressure attached to Spurs is a lot different from the Saints unfortunately…

      (Quote)

  32. get a grip troll sorry troy..
you must of watched a different first half than the rest of the us.your just making ya sell look a ***** now like 🙄

      (Quote)

  33. I only deal in facts. I’m the only one happy it seems. Far from angry. We’ve won. Pards pulled off another great victory in the face of adversity.

Shame yous choose to hate and I choose to support. Deal with it. Facts can’t be beaten by hatred.

      (Quote)

  34. One thing I will give Percy credit for, is his total unwavering self belief.
Even when his system has failed repeatedly, he sticks with it.
I don’t know what happened at HT, but something changed in the attitude of the players and we looked to be positive from the off.
The goal gave us something to believe in, and when we scored the 2nd, Spuds were shell shocked.
Sissoko was transformed from his 1st half performance, and Saylor was solid at the back.
That we held on for the win is credit to the players too, not Percy with his weird 3rd sub.

      (Quote)

  35. Troy, your feeble attempts to make yourself look right all the time are making you look more foolish by the day. Time to get back in the laundry basket before you embarrass yourself further. By the way, for the record I never want us to lose a game, in fact I have a huge sweat on every season until we reach 40 plus points which you would know if you ever read a post properly. 😉

      (Quote)

  36. Dear me. Bootsy hatred for Pards is seriously worrying. He is oozing unhealthy vibes which demonstrate he would choose that we lost to justify his venomous hatred.
For me, Pards got it tactically right and it needs applauding.

      (Quote)

  37. Troy, you’re turning into a right WUM mate 😆
Who in there right mind would want the toon to lose ?

We need to get Anita out of that team, and Tiote back in. Cisse and Perez up front would also do nicely…

      (Quote)

  38. 😯 wow Troy is turning into an old misery. Even chasing Pardew haters after we WON 😛

just enjoy the win mate.. although I thought the players we had were **** 😆
I reckon we have decent players we just needed Pardew to wake up and listen to the fans which it seems he has.. credit to Pards

      (Quote)

  39. pardew “We were giving too much possession to Tottenham, too much space.

“We never made a challenge and we were fortunate to come in a 1-0, so I reminded them about the fundamentals of a Premier League game and we came out with a much stronger attitude.

      (Quote)

  40. But lads you don’t understand, it was Pards who scored them two goals not Sammy and Perez. It couldn’t possibly be them that scored cause Troy said the whole team are cack . Percy said Sammy was on his last chance only the other day, so it’s a good job he used his last chance to save his managers ****.
