Cisse gives Jose the blues! Newcastle 2-1 Chelsea

Cisse sinks Chelsea
Cisse sinks Chelsea
All of the talk prior to the game was centred around Chelsea and the possibility of going through a season unbeaten.

That possibility is now a thing of the past thanks to a brace from Papiss Cisse who scored his fifth and sixth league goals of what has been a stop-start campaign for the Senegalese striker.

Of course this isn’t the first brace he’s scored against Chelsea with two spectacular strikes earning us a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge a few seasons ago. This time around his goals were of a different quality as he joined the game from the bench and demonstrated the knack of being on the right place at the right time proving that if you provide him with enough service he can and will score goals.

It was backs against the walls stuff for a lot of the game with United seemingly happy to let Chelsea have the ball in their own half whilst stifling any room for the more creative players within the Blues’ ranks to stamp their mark on the game. The likes of Diego Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Willian were quiet on the day by all accounts.

That was to be expected as Jose Mourinho’s side have been drawing praise from all quarters but in the end it was the determination of United that won the day despite ten (well, 16 actually) very tense minutes at the end of the game following Steven Taylor’s dismissal for a silly second yellow card being punished immediately by Didier Drogba heading beyond Jak Alnwick but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser.

It’s a notable achievement for a Newcastle side that just a few months ago was floundering at the foot of the table yet now find themselves in and around the European places. It is of course early days and we’re not even halfway through the season but winning games isn’t a bad habit to be getting into.

Howay the lads!

  1. Here’s another one:
Alan Pardew has conceded as many goals against Sunderland as manager of Newcastle United as Keegan, Dalglish, Souness, Roeder, Allardyce, Kinnear and Hughton combined (11).
    .
    And another:
Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United fired their first Sunderland derby blank since 1989, their first home blank since 1985 and their first consecutive home blanks since 1901.
    And more:
Alan Pardew has lost as many Tyne-Wear derbies as the previous 22 Newcastle United managers combined.
Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United have never scored more than 1 goal against Sunderland in 7 attempts.

  2. Alan Pardew was the first Newcastle United manager to lose 6 consecutive Premier League games.
In the 2013-14 season, Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United lost 4 home games in a row without scoring a goal – the first time in the club’s entire history that this has happened.
In the 2012-13 season, Newcastle under Alan Pardew lost their final 3 home games, the only time in the club’s history that they have done so.
Alan Pardew’s point per game for Newcastle United in the Premier League stands at a very mediocre 1.35, compared to Keegan’s 1.76, Robson’s 1.60, Roeder’s 1.40 or even Dalglish’s 1.36. Looking at the last two seasons and a bit, this figure drops to a very meagre 1.21, below Allardyce’s 1.24 and only just above Souness’ 1.16.
No Premier League club suffered more home defeats in 2012-13 than NUFC under Alan Pardew.
And it just goes on and on.
I think my opinion that he is out of his depth was neither ridiculous or irrational. but actually fully justified.

  3. I’m assuming we’re going to go for it against Spurs, got me worried about yet more injuries against the mackems. I think we should risk it, at the end of the day any chance we get for a cup we should go for it, even if it meansa weakened side against the scum.

But seriously, if Alnwick gets injured then what the hell are we going to do 😆

  4. Wow! 😯

Betsy continues to search for his balls. FTSOTBYCMIUISIANFTLOTAEMWACSFBB

(For The Sake Of The Blog You Couldn’t Make It Up Well I’ve Seen It All Now For The Love Of Toonsy And Every Man Woman And Child Someone Find Betsy’s Balls). 🙂

He’s even tried to change his quote. He’s now conveniently missed of “in the premier league”.

Full quote was, “He’s out of his depth as a premier league manager”

We better ask him to return his manager of the month award. Betsy, will you break the bad news to him or should I ? 😀

  5. Keep hanging on to that little snippet Tory boy.
    It’s all you’ve got.
In the grand scheme of things it means nowt.
    Have a nice day. 😉

  6. Newkie – I think we have to go for it against Spuds mate. This will be their 3rd game in a week and they were bloody lucky against Swans yesterday!!.
We have to be physical without the ball and fast on the attack IMO.
I think it’s a game that may suit Cabella actually and I would start Rivière and Armaz and have Perez n Cisse on the bench.

      (Quote)

  7. Newkie – if Percy plays Woodman instead of Alnwick, then it says to me he isn’t interested in the cup, and is prioritizing the mackems match.
It’s the one he knows he needs to win to get his doubters on board.
You can see the fear in his eyes when he talks about that game.
It’s on his mind and rightly so.

  8. Spurs looked poor against Swans y’day. they were pinned back for the majority of the game but scored last min.

we can go there & win imo. we need dummett at centerhalf to keep an eye on Kane and Hairara to add a bit of pace down our left.

Keep Kane quite and we’re halfway there, Is Abeid back? Sissoko will be vital in the middle.

    Replace Janmaat with Saylor.

    Alnwick
    Saylor Colo Dumbs Hairdara
    Sissoko Collback Tiote/Abeid
    cabella Cisse Ameobi / Perez

  9. Spuds are beatable like. They seem to get battered then pop up with a late winner. That won’t last. The mighty mags are ganna stuff the bastards! Mog me warts (mark my words)

  10. We missed Sissoko in the middle on Saturday. His been a major reason we’ve pulled things round.

      (Quote)

  11. Keep Gouffran out of the team ffs. He brings nothing to the team, just a waste of space. Williamson would also be the nail in the coffin.

      (Quote)

  12. Terry

Players go through phases. It wasn’t that long ago he was one of our better players and would occasionally get a goal. There aren’t any great options for Pardso.

      (Quote)

  13. Sissoko was a huge miss against Arsenal. Their defence was shaky and we never tested them. I said weeks ago that the upturn in fortune was due to players being missing. Willo, Cisse, Tiote, Gouffran were all back and we were again pathetic! They’re all really poor footballers. Leave them out for god’s sake. Perez was the only one who played well.

Riviere is like a stray dog on the pitch. Offers nothing. Fairy weight Cabella isn’t much better. £16m wasted. Pardew needs to tell Sammy he doesn’t have to run for the corner flag every time he gets the ball. Cut inside sometimes – you’ve got the skill.

Not really expecting much from Spurs but we must be better against the scum.

      (Quote)

  14. We are preparing for our biggest week in some time with Gouffran occupying the right wing role (for some unknown reason) while the most gifted player contracted to NUFC is kicking his heels in Paris. Its such a sad waste

Not excusing HBAs lack of professionalism but it is redefining irony hearing it from the man who tried to headbutt an opposition player, Abuses other managers, Shoved a linesmen, Compared a physical tackle to rape on national TV (ironically involving Ched Evans) and had to take out a super injunction…

      (Quote)

  15. Can’t believe some people are still beating the anti Pardew ****.

It’s not rocket science; if you want a good team you need a good squad and if you want an average team you need an average squad.

Not that hard to work out really.

      (Quote)

  16. Georgio – Who would you have played instead?
I would have gone Cabella > Gouffran but probably kept the rest of the players in simply because we are so thin on the grounds. You don’t rate Cabella or Riviere so please enlighten us on all the many changes you would have made. 🙄

      (Quote)

  17. Tiote is absolute garbage. I think Colback offers enough defensively (and much more going forward) to drop Tiote altogether when we have others available to play.

      (Quote)

  18. ST – I would have played Dummet and Colo at CB, Haidara LB. Cabella for Gouffran and Perez at CF.
If they were fit (and I don’t know if they are) I’d have Abeid in for Tiote and Aarons for Sammy.
Sounds harsh but I’d never ever play Willo, Gouffran as anything but at CF. Tiote is poor Cisse is poor (yes he’s scored 7 but 6 of them anybody would have knocked in). 🙂

      (Quote)

  19. I’d also try Armstrong as a no 10 instead of Sammy at LW. This kid is good enough and once he scores nothing will stop him.

      (Quote)

  20. Stuart 79

It doesn’t matter how many batterings, humiliations some suffer, they just never see the wood for the trees.

Average squad, average manager results in average results, performances and league position come the end of the season.

Why some expect us to be entertaining, tactically astute and compete against a top team like Arsenal is beyond me.

Are we very astute bloggers or just average but the others make us look very astute, clever and always right. 😎

      (Quote)

  21. Georgio- Cissé is not poor, he got no pace, no strenght, no technique, but he is a finisher, just need service and he’ll score, and its a strenght to be able to score plenty of **** goals. For Spurs, Id go for:

    —————————-Alnwick————————
    –Streete/Satka-Coloccini-Dummett-Haidara-
    ———————-Abeid—–Colback—————–
    —————————Sissoko————————-
    ——Cabella——————————–Sammy—-
    —————————-Ayoze————————–

Taylor, Janmaat and hopefully Aarons back for Spurs game.

  23. Sharpy17- Before selling Santon, Id try him as Right Midfielder and include him the mix for CM spot when we sell Tioté and Anita

      (Quote)

  24. Which gives us Colback/Abeid/Colo as potential DMs, Colback/Sissoko/Abeid/Bigi/Santon as CMs.
    de Jong/Sissoko/Abeid/Armstrong/Cabella as attacking midfielders

  25. It’s all fun and games at Rangers at the moment with Mike Ashley.
    1. There manager resigning
    2. There 8 million pounds in debt
    3. This SFA complaint against Rangers and Ashley.
He has probably sunk the club once again. If they go down another division and get in even more debt will Ashley stick around or close the club down ?

      (Quote)

  26. But now to more important things. The half time entertainment put on by Arsenal. No dancing poodles, no balloon animals, and there were absolutely no penguins either! Absolute bollocks that is. But what can you expect from a London club?

      (Quote)

  27. Our scrambly bits were very poor against Arsenal. I’ve been warning about this for some time now. Why oh why doesn’t wor Alan listen to me and bring in a scrambly bit coach? It’s obvious we need one. Ronald Smallstones is available from PSV. Why don’t we snatch him up before another big club beats us to the punch? Harrumph!

      (Quote)

  28. What kind of performance can we expect against Tottenham? Another tired re-hash of the 4-2-3-1 with either Perez or Cisse starting up front? It doesn’t work Alan, especially without Sissoko to drive the midfield. Our lack of depth is being exposed again Scroogely.

      (Quote)

  29. Having an isolated loan striker is useless. How much service did Cisse get against Arsenal? It was ridiculous. Right I’ve had my say, I’ll watch for your comments with interest mates.

      (Quote)

  30. Bit worried our game plan seems to be revolving around one player again. Didn’t we learn from Cabaye? Although to be fair to Pardew he has already said we can’t rely on Sissoko and need to learn to play without him too. Probably knows he’ll be gone in January.

      (Quote)

  31. I think we already have an isolated LOAN striker G2
    FurryEar
Can’t get a game for toffee.

      (Quote)

  32. Sharpy – I’d agree with that line up. I think Riv suits one up top a lot more than Cisse as he can bring others in to play. Keep Ciss for the impact role as it seems to be working for him, not sure what my line up for the mackems would be…would people start Cisse or go with Perez from the off and then look to the bench to change things later on?

      (Quote)

  33. Stuart – we can’t afford for more than one player to be good, that would bring too much chance of Europe 😛

This style is heavily reliant on Sissoko, but what other choice do we have? Pardew will stick to it because it’s the only way to keep the ever present pressure off, hence we’ll struggle to develop ways of coping without him and when we are without him we’ll go on a dismal run of form and the cycle starts again.

      (Quote)

  34. I think Spurs might be a bit tired from the europa league game and playing Swansea on sunday that also is good news. If Mike open’s his chequebook in january I will be very surprised.

      (Quote)

  35. Spot on Beardsleys Boots. Why did we bring Ferrerya in? Another ridiculous waste of time. Who recommended him? Just a wasted spot in the squad. Without Perez and Cisse we would be lost. No depth at all up front. Cabella has been a disappointment. Without Sissoko in the midfield we look hopeless there as well. I worry about the derby. Another Parsnip display like the last 3 derbies I wonder?

      (Quote)

  36. Sorry, no cash available from Scroogely Stem mate. He see’s what a brilliant manager he has and just smiles and fondles his purse happily.

      (Quote)

  37. Parsnip sees the obvious after we lose badly. A lone striker, isolated up front without Sissoko to power forward. No service whatsoever. That game was a complete waste of time. We lack credible depth all over the pitch.

      (Quote)

  38. G2 I think it’s safe to say turkey is back on the menu for Mike Scoogley. His only 6 games away from safety out of a possible 22. Pardew has done him proud once again. His also looking forward to selling our best player and getting away from that europa league spot but out of the kindness of his heart his putting up another sports direct sign.

      (Quote)

  39. Mike Scoogley can then concentrate on his new hobby. Plastering sports direct sign’s around Ibrox and getting more free advertising on Scottish t.v.

      (Quote)

  40. Seriously you couldn’t make it up. It’s probably his next plan. I think Mike will either sell Tiote or Sissoko. He wants 35 million for him on the last day of the transfer window. Fan’s can blame Pardew instead.

      (Quote)

  41. So G2 blames the quality of the players yet goes on to blame Pardew for the poor results against the Mackems. Is it the players or the manager? Male your mind up.

      (Quote)

  42. Troy you are starting to sound like your brother B&B…. you used o be quite sharp and witty, now all you have become is a mirror of your brother… repetitively annoying.. next you will be sending a 35 page dossier to yourself! 😯

      (Quote)

  43. Troy I had my doubts about Carbella in january. I said he would need a certain period of adjustment but at 12 million ? It seem’s like a very bad deal to me. Siem De Jong has been injured most of his time here and seem’s like another bad signing. Riviere can only score against a reserve premier league side in the capitol one cup. That’s 24 million pounds down the drain and I blame Carr not Pardew for this. Pardew could of picked three players better than this. Still the fan’s don’t throw any blame in his direction.

      (Quote)

  44. …didn’t even notice the comment at 480 tbh… I have known Troy long enough to not be bothered by that comment… 😉

      (Quote)

  45. Aussie: there are sometimes sick jokes made about tragedies, and though usually inappropriate, sometimes you can’t help but smile. The sad thing about Troy @480 is that it wasn’t remotely funny.

  46. Oh dear oh dear me. 🙄

    Hahaha. YCMIU. 🙄

Eric my little friend. Get a grip. I know it was funny so I don’t understand why you don’t. I’m telling you it was funny. So laugh. Now. 😛

    Aussie

The same old inane arguments continue. And will do as long as Betsy keeps talking about Pards being **** and fails to answer my question.

    Even Sharpy agrees;

Boots – your avoidance of Troys questions is making you look ridiculous now mate. I’m not having a pop, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you aren’t giving an opinion one way or another – and to sit on the fence until the Scum game doesn’t make any sense at all.

Keep yawning Aussie and Begas keep shaking your head. 😆
These Australians have strange tics. 😆

      (Quote)

  47. Wasn’t funny Troy, my little lamb. If you think it was, that describes why you don’t understand that making the same comments twenty five thousand times isn’t funny either 🙂

      (Quote)

  48. And Troy said @512:

“Boots – your avoidance of Troys questions is making you look ridiculous now mate.”

Talking about yourself in the third person is not good. Not good, Prince Troyston, Jr. the Third.

      (Quote)

  49. Terry

It’s not £24m down the drain. They might well turn out to be decent footballers who adapt to the premier league. I don’t think there’s any doubt over de Jongs ability. He is injury prone and it’s always a gamble buying a player like that. Buy that is football.

I have always said, buying so many new players in one go was not sensible. You can’t expect them all to hit the ground running. We were forced into it though, by the continuing transfer policy of leaving the squad threadbare in quality.

Successful sides are normally stable. Buying one or two players per season to strengthen and freshen things up.

Not the toon. It’s a case of having a poor squad, selling the best players and bringing in untested premier league players and hoping. It just leads to mid table mediocrity.

But back to your point. Cabella and De Jong may well be major players for us next season. You certainly can’t say the money is wasted.

      (Quote)

  50. Eric

My little bionic chump. 😉 I was not talking about myself in the third party above. Not a day goes by that you don’t make a chump of yourself. 😉

      (Quote)

  51. @512: if that was a reference to what Sharpy said then you should have made it obvious that it was. I thought you were talking about yourself. So, just bad grammar and English then 🙂

      (Quote)

  52. Eric

It was as clear as day. It’s just your so intent on getting one over on me that you pounce without thinking. 😉

Re the Aussie remark. Take it whichever which way you choose. Any sensible person would know the meaning.

Troy is looking forward to the quarter final of the league cup. I wonder if you amd Betsy are?

      (Quote)

  53. Eric @ 514 😳 I bet you wish you had of read Troys comment @ 512 quoting what Sharpy said 😆 😆

Troy let him up to catch his breath a bit 🙂

  54. Why Bid D @523?

He should really put it in quotes if he is quoting someone else. I tend to skim Troy’s **** like everybody else does.

      (Quote)

  55. And Big D: Troy’s use of a semi-colon before someone else’s statement must have confused me because it is wrong and makes it seem that it was his statement. Sorry to be pedantic, but that is how it came across to me.
