Match Day Banter – Newcastle v Southampton

To say Southampton have been this seasons surprise package is an understatement! After losing so many good players they have barely faltered at all this season and they currently sit in third place after the first 21 games. They also thumped us 4-0 at home and the return match looks like being another tough game. However, our form at home has been good (W5 D3 L1) so I am expecting our lads to put up a spirited fight and try and come away with all three points.

Mags v Saints
Mags v Saints

Apart from the African Cup absentees we have pretty much our usual players to select from with the added bonus of Santon being fit for duty. Whether he is selected or not is another matter but it would be good to see him get some minutes under his belt.  Here is who we have to choose from

Newcastle United: Alnwick, Krul, Coloccini, Dummett, Good, Haidara, Janmaat, Santon, Streete, Williamson, Anita, Bigirimana, Cabella, Colback, Sissoko, Vuckic, Ameobi, Armstrong, Ferreyra, Gouffran, Perez, Riviere.

Southampton do have some injury concerns. Morgan Schneiderlin (thigh) and Victor Wanyama (hamstring) are out and to be honest it is good to see that Wanyama is not going to play. He does a lot of good work in the middle of the park and breaks up a lot of opposition attacks. He won’t be missed as far as I am concerned. Here is who Southampton have to choose from.

Southampton : K Davis, Forster, Gazzaniga, Bertrand, Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Targett, Cork, S Davis, Isgrove, McQueen, Reed, Tadic, Ward-Prowse, Elia, Long, Pelle.

Based on current form you would have to give this one to Southampton. In the last six games they have a very good record (W4 D1 L1) when you compare that to ours (W1 D1 L4) it seems that we will be up against it. But this is the Premier League and on any given day any team can win. So my prediction is a 2-1 victory and the first three points for John Carver.

Howay the Lads!

  1. Hull need to show solidarity with Bruce for another 6 games or so…. and … ping ! …we have the third team to be relegated 😈 😈

  2. Remember when Andy Carroll was never the solution and would mean return to hoofball?? What a joke, he is our missing piece. For manager, Ranieri has to be seriously be considered in my opinion and in terms of players, we all know we need 2 dominants players, one at CB, on as Big Man Striker. And more than that, we need de Jong, Aarons, Abeid, Santon back. And also, I think we have to ease pressure on Ayoze and put him on a wing to create, and im sure Sammy would be useful upfront, and as winger, I only see Aarons who can take his place, no more Gouffran, shouldnt even be on bench!

  3. Stem – I find it impossible to get excited about anything at NUFC, although when that fat ******* has left I will be pissed for a month! 😯

  4. Stem , As I said to BB I was bored, I don’t actually believe owt until I see it with my own eyes like. That’s how I know Ashley is a fat **** cause I’ve seen it with my own eyes 😉

  5. Kim you got me excited at the prospect of getting rid of Ashley and appointing and descent manager. Only joking

  6. its all over twitter folks. P Jewel with Garde as his assistant.

Garde, 48, was in Manchester on Sunday to commentate on his former club’s game with Manchester City on French television.

But when quizzed on air by his colleague over the rumours, he cryptically responded “I can’t say anything today,” before dropping hints that he could soon be a Premier League boss.

Garde is expected on Tyneside for talks over the position vacated when Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace at New Year.

  7. Someone on Facebook just asked the question; Would you take relegation if it meant the Fat ******* selling up? I would take relegation in as shot if it could guarantee him fucking off!

  8. tough one Stu but realistically we could get back to the prem in 2-3yrs.so I would snap their hands off if it was an option.

Fatman might be here for years 😯

  9. I would take relegation. We’re tortured year in and year out by this idiot. He has no ambition and never will. Get him out and start over.

  10. Well last time we were in the middle of the biggest financial meltdown in history where billionaires lost billions so buying a football club wasn’t the top of their list. Also I don’t believe the supporters would still turn up next time and he would definitely not want the hassle this time.

  11. We’re only 8 points out of the drop zone. It sounds like a lot but if we don’t beat Hull I’ll begin to worry about it a bit. Surely it can’t be done, being relegated I mean? Surely even Ashley couldn’t get us relegated from this position at this time of year?

  12. Is it possible we can get Ashley to go into the next running of the bulls in Pamplona? I was planning to release some honey badgers there to spice things up. Honey badgers don’t give a ****. You heard it here first.

  13. I’m quite confident of staying up. We have some winnable games and the bottom 3 are *****.

      (Quote)

  14. But is staying up a good thing if it means Ashley continues to stay and clog our drains Mark mate?

  15. We will fight him on the beaches. We will fight him in the stands. We will never surrender to Ashers! Never I say!

      (Quote)

  16. he may stay if we go down. Protests are needed. Fans staying away would help. If they do insist on going, have a sit-in protest with anti-ashley chants.

  17. Stuart79 I was in the minority in the summer saying Ashley hadn’t done enough in the transfer market. I think only you and Troy agreed with me. Everyone was making a big fuss about Carbella who has been absolutely ***** and a waste of 12 million in my book. De Jong has been injured and I’m yet to be convinced if his a good player or not ? As for those two Nottingham forest player’s ? Shola is better than Riviere and we still have a **** defence. So for that reason alone I would take relegation because if it meant the end of Ashley.

      (Quote)

  18. Trigger I think there was more than the 3 of you’s that said we needed more , actually I can only remember a few that thought we had enough 😕

      (Quote)

  19. Trigger , I think cabs will come good, he’s adapting to the league at present but he was brilliant against Chelsea, he has defo got it in his locker, just needs a good coach imo.

      (Quote)

  20. Dave, when all fit I think we got a good squad ,trouble is we need more depth, 2 quality cb and a big strong front man for perez to work with.

      (Quote)

  21. Kim thats what it said on the sky screen 12 million for Carbella on the transfer’s done page. I would sooner have Shola over both of them.

      (Quote)

  22. Trigger Santi was one of the very few that thought we had enough strength . Most others all agreed that we needed to strengthen the defence ie CB’s and a striker.
Kim I think when all are fit we have got a few good players but as a team for me they just don’t work, yeah Cabella will probably come good but TBH until the Chelski game I hadn’t seen anything from him that got me excited.
For me we still need 2 good CB’s and we still need a good striker.

      (Quote)

  23. Dave, He was given the freedom to roam and got a rare start at Chelsea though, he looked a different player as like you I had seen little previously.

      (Quote)

  24. Latest odds show Laudrup getting backed. Can’t see it considering he left Swansea over not having enough say on transfers.

All a bit of a joke really. The club just say the bare minimum every single time. Who needs supporters eh?

      (Quote)

  25. Big Dave I thought Ben Arfa was a better player myself. He had a bad attitude but a better manager might have got the best out of him. I think Pardew ruined his career because the fan’s enjoyed watching him play. He had great potential but Pardew ruined him. He would come on all attack minded but he was a little selfish at times but so was Remy. Carbella hasn’t impressed me this season but he might do better next year. I got a terrible feeling we our going to lose Sissoko and Cisse and get no one in. If that happens we our going down and that will wipe the smile of Fatty’s face.

      (Quote)

  26. Kim I apologise I honestly believed it was twelve. I’m sure I read it somewhere in the summer. There was loads of links and paper speculation and I’m sure it was probably the daily mail or something. You’re right i’m wrong but you know your stuff.

      (Quote)

  27. Trigger my views have changed a lot about Benny, I was a massive supporter of his but recently I just think he is a maverick that no manager would get his all from him, but with out doubt I am 100 % sure he would have done more for us this season than Cabella and we would have had a few more points

      (Quote)

  28. Yeah we still are where we were in the summer in needing at least one CB plus a striker.

But surely the emergence of Aarons, Abeid, and Ayoze have come as a pleasant surprise. If we can gamer that striker and CB I like the team well enough

      (Quote)

  29. Trigger, nah mate I thought you was right cause when I first looked there was £12m and £10m coming up like you said, but in the back of my mind I thought I’d seen £7m for him and £5m for Rivi. Truth is we get fed so much ***** it’s enough to make you dizzy.

      (Quote)

  30. Dave I’m with you on Benny, Bruce couldn’t hack him either, so maybe a few of us owe Percy an apology, for that much at least 😉

      (Quote)

  31. Kim when he 1st went to Hull I thought we were going to be sorry to see what we missed, but even after Bruce tried to protect him it still seemed as if he just couldn’t give his all.
Sad really when you see someone that clearly has the talent but just waste it

      (Quote)

  32. Remi Garde will be at SJP and the training ground tomorrow, Colo didn’t fly with the team and is due to meet garde the morra and then both fly out to dubai to together.

      (Quote)

  33. Dave – I always thought that of Benny. Couldn’t deny the moments of magic, but that’s all they were.

Hitman – where have you got that from mate?.
I wondered if that was why we were being linked with Gomis again TBH. Both Garde and Gomis were at Lyon together – I wondered if it was a case of go and get me Gomis and ill be your head coach?!.

Kim – no way the toon spend £12m on Cabella. The transfer policy seems to be sub £10m, so I just don’t see it TBH – £7m is far more likely.

      (Quote)

  34. So now rumours are Ashley is thinking of forgetting Rangers as its getting too much like hard work…

      (Quote)

  35. Just to add to the general optimism of the discussion we now have the worst goal difference of the top 13 teams. It’s ridiculous to think we can be a top 10 club with the farce going on again now.

      (Quote)

  36. The Hull match is a must win for me. To lift the players’ and supporters’ spirits and put back some confidence. Surely we’ll have a decision about manager by then.

      (Quote)

  37. Isn’t this what we expected whether Pardew or Carver was in charge: point(s) from the Burnley game, a weakened side and FA Cup exit then nothing from Chelsea and Southampton? The performances have not been that bad and we have missed Cisse.

So, I would suggest that not getting a new manager might have actually been a blessing. If we do get someone in before the Hull game at least he will have a stretch of winnable games to start off. He will not have the difficulty of playing the first and third teams in his first few matches.

I am sure they didn’t plan it like this – they are not that smart – but if we do get a new manager it could work out for him.

      (Quote)

  38. What I am saying is that even though I do not want Carver he has ended up being (un?)intentionally the fall guy. I think he has done the best he can but he was probably on a hiding to nothing. I was only half joking when I said he was shyte and ugly and I can probably add naive to that now.

If they end up giving him the job until the end of the season, I take all of this back and will only say the whole of upper management are idiots. Let’s see if we get someone over the line (flashback).

      (Quote)

  39. I’ve got a radical new idea. Why don’t we look at the players instead of the manager? They just aren’t good enough and that’s the reason we’re 10th. They’re average and average players go through spells of playing well and then drop to their usual level. This is the epitome of our form over the last 2/3 years.

Our transfer policy means we will uncover the odd diamond but a lot of them will be average as we only pay average prices.

      (Quote)

  40. Stuart @435: why is that radical? You and Troysta have said it a thousand times. I think we have a good squad for what we spent with a glaring hole at centre back. With a reasonable amount of injuries we are top half but never top six. A great coach like Mourihno (who I know we will never get) could change that but they are few and far between. That’s no reason to stick with a serial loser like Pardew or his deputy.

My hope is that we can catch lightning in a bottle. I have supported this club for many years and have mainly had heartache and heartbreak. That’s why I would like to go a route of new ideas and not the boring Pardew deputy route. I have seen it too many times before when we hire McFaul or Souness types. We have had Pardewball, now let’s try something new.

      (Quote)

  41. Well if Hitman calculations are correct we should have a new manager by today. Remi Garde so there you have it ladies and gentleman. I’m off to the dentist, two night’s of tooth ache is enough for me.

      (Quote)

  42. Trigger good luck mate, I know how you feel, have been suffering a bit with my wisdom tooth on and off, think it may have to go soon 🙁 Wish we could get rid of our owner as easy.

      (Quote)

  43. I agree Eric.

We need a few players and a decent coach to make me happy whilst fattytits is here. thats not asking for much is it..

Pardew has Palace on fire atm. Nice to see him playing Gayle as a winger. I’ll give it a month before he’s a wingback / leftback

      (Quote)

  44. Totally losing interest in now. What are the club doing?

George Caulkin confirming rumours that Laudrup could be in Newcastle? Garde keeping quiet?

Are we finally going to do something? I would be surprised if any manager wants to come in just before the end of the window.

The atmosphere was appalling at the weekend.

      (Quote)

  45. Mark –

Pardew proving he is a decent manager IMO.

Can only hope the club are trying for someone who is better than him and possible foreign, to lose AP and end up with Carver would be typical of Ashley. Major step backwards.

I think it has to be a foreign coach – they seem to have a better understanding how to be successful in this league with their tactics, coaching etc.

Koeman. Pochettino, Laudrup (won a cup), Martinez, Wenger and obviously Jose.

But as ever, we aren’t even assed about progression as otherwise we’d have CB and Striker that we desperately need already.

For me we need to ditch Colo. beaten in the air far to easy and no pace. Level has dropped significantly in last 18months.

  46. Toon have bought a c/b this year trouble is he at Forrest so jabba won’t buy another one,you think he’s made of money

  48. Kim my mouths all numb. She had to poke the nerves to get rid of the flamination around the main nerve. Root canal in the next couple of weeks. It was really painful but I demanded antibiotics because I’m a wimp. I had a wisdom tooth out once so can sympathise. It’s not as bad as you think.
