Will Jonas get one final Swansong ?

jonas-gutierrez
I for one hope that Spiderman will get one final game at the Club following the collapse of a move to former club Velez Sarsfield.
Jonas who has overcome testicular cancer, had held talks with Sarsfield chiefs about a switch to the Argentinian club prior to the closure of their transfer window on Sunday.

But the 31-year-old midfielder failed to finalise terms and on Monday was returning back to Newcastle, tweeting a picture of himself on a flight heading from London to Tyneside.

Due to his battle with cancer, the former Argentina international has not played for United since October 2013.

But with his contract due to expire in the summer after 7 yrs, there is now an opportunity for him to make a final farewell appearance for United.
Gutierrez said: “I have played in a World Cup, but if I play again for Newcastle then that will be the best moment of my career.”

After all he has gave his all for our club and had made it clear many times that he would play in any position asked of him just to play for us. I know that his Speed had started to leave him a bit but he still had skill and liked to tackle aswell.
So I for one would love to see him one last time and I think most Fans would like to have the chance to show Jonas how much they thought of him and to thank him for all that he has done for our club.

  1. Good article Newkie 😉

It would be really nice for him to play another game. isnt there something about a new contract if he does? I could be wrong like

  2. Now Dave, you did write this article didn’t you? If so well done mate, glad you did it.

Gutierrez said: “I have played in a World Cup, but if I play again for Newcastle then that will be the best moment of my career.”

What a lovely thing to say. I know some don’t think he’s up to it for us anymore but personally I love Jonas. Watched him at Reading couple of seasons back and he was without doubt the hardest worker that day, he was bloody everywhere, proper grafter. There is no denying how much he loves the club and we really should see him run out again, even if only for one more time so we can say goodbye and show our appreciation to a fine servant to NUFC. Shame on Jabba if he doesn’t make it happen.

  3. In my opinon, I always though Jonas could be a very decent CM and that was a natural evolution of his game, pace is gone, but if he has same engine, he really could do well with Abeid and Colback

  4. Kim 😆 yeah, I was going to write my name in big bold letters at the bottom, 😉 Jonas has been one of my fav’s from he came here.
Cholo I agree with you but I think they want to get him of the wage bill 😥

      (Quote)

  5. Big Dave, they need an agreement to play him and let him go free end of season. I hope Shane Ferguson gets regular playing time at Rangers

      (Quote)

  6. aye Dave. I’m sure they could get round it. It can’t be much of an issue. He wants to go so lets give him another game before he does. Its not as if we havent anything to play for 😆

  7. so who did write this Article as there isnt a name at the bottom? 😉 its getting very confusing on here. Eric will be kicking off later 😆 😉

has jabba got the heart to give him one last game for him and the fans
    Mmmmmmmm

  9. In answer to the title – I truly hope so, coz after the service he’s given to NUFC, he doesn’t deserve the ending he stands to get. I hope he gets at least one last run out in front 50k home fans to acknowledge and thank him.
That’s a sentimental fans point of view – Ashley will just want him earning his wages 😆

  10. I would think he’ll got on for a final wave to the supporters but definitely not a start. It’s been too long and we’re too fragile for that. Ten or fifteen minutes at the end of a game we’re winning decisively (if that ever happens).

Although IMO all loyal players of the club should get a chance to say their goobyes to the fans, I think its even more so after what Jonas has been through.
So I just hope the club do the right thing

  14. As for Jonas. He never quite reached the heights that were expected. He had a good start but slowly worsened as his toon career developed.

Always seemed to give his best but also seemed to put a bit weight on. He was restricted by Pardew and made him do more defensive duties.

I would like to see him get a good send off before he leaves.

  15. Cheers Troy 😉 I do try 😆 it wont win any writing contests and I have seen longer posts 😆 but it gives us someting new to talk about and makes it easier to scroll through

  18. Good article Eric 😉

I hope he gets a farewell game but if this thing about the “clause” is true and “if” it’s activated after one more game then there’s just no way he’ll get picked unless he forfeits the “clause”. I’d have thought only Jonas can do that the club won’t be able to, so in that respect it’s n his hands really.

      (Quote)

  19. the jonas situation obviously isn’t as straight forward as it seems.
pity really, you would think that where there’s a will there’s a way. i suppose we still have a few months until jonas’s contract runs out to address things. in the mean time it seems that the club aren’t too worried about any negative press that the situation brings.
a typical media hiccup by the toon, stay schtum and say nowt and let the fans fill the gaps with there own opinions.
john carver has stated that he maybe isn’t fit yet.perhaps he’ll get a run out at the end of the season when safety has been re-assured? despite our apparent demise thre are still a lot of points and prize money to play for. there is also the case of jc trying to gain the chief honcho job, though i would imagine that job is pretty much his anyway unless a disaster entails.

  20. Sorry, but I really must put this on this thread as sharpy is making a complete fool of himself and tying himself up in nots.
Hang on a minute, Sharpy!!! When exactly did I ever say Aarons should be on £40,50 or £60k a week? That is absolutely ridiculous to suggest I even said anything of the sort! I said he should be paid £15-£20k a week – NEVER said what you suggested I have said. That’s probably why you can’t accept your rationale is wrong as you haven’t been reading my post. I also never said I wouldn’t pay Ings, £60k a week. My whole argument has been based on your inconsistencies in your argument; Ings is worth becoming our biggest eaner but Aarons isn’t worth the going rate for highly rated 19 year olds?? Come on, Man!

You made me laugh when you said this: “f you can’t see Ings is a quality player, there is nothing that I can say to change that. If you want to wait another 2-3 seasons for him to prove his consistence then another club would have taken him before then.” That’s just about what I have been saying about Aarons for the last month yet you are happy to risk losing him, but not Ings?

Really Sharpy, your last comment has really shown you up I am afraid and I want a response as the above is quite ridiculous!

  21. wow emotions are really running high on the blog. 10.30a.m. and stuart79has the gloves off already!

divide and conquer, ashley has split the fanbase….or rataher smashed it to smithereens when i look at the differing opinion on here

      (Quote)

  22. MM you know how I felt about him but I meant it too 😉 the club is a joke.

Stu IMO Arrons is a young lad with his whole career in front of him and at present he is on about 2k a week which to normal working people is a lot of money, and while some say treble his wages to 6k a week is plenty which again to normal folk is some wage. But to a young pro player with his potential is not a lot of money and im sure someone else would jump in and pay him a lot more.
Yeah You could over him 6k with the few to look at it again but that doesn’t really mean much especially with our regime.

      (Quote)

  23. Munich – Gloves were off as soon as Sharpy blatantly lied about what I had said. He is losing the debate so he makes things up to make him look right. That’s out of order.

Dave – Spot on. The going rate these days with all the money sloshing around for a highly rated youngster is a minimum £15k a week.

But the funny thing is Sharpy is acting like Ings is a proven PL footballer, when he’s not and Aarons is a lad we know nothing about and would be taking a risk paying him the going rate, yet no risk making Ings our highest paid player. Just hypocrisy really.

But he’s worried about losing Ings to another club if we don’t pay him the money but not worried about losing Aarons for similar reasons. Again bizarre!

In my opinion I believe Aarons has the potential to be anything he wants and I really think he could be a brilliant player and worth more than Ings in the long run. After all he has a better games to goal ration than Ings this season… 😉

      (Quote)

  24. the big issue with aarons is the lad isn’t from up here and won’t do the job for nowt like john carver.
he also knows that other clubs are sniffing around him, so has nothing to lose by playing the waiting game.

the biggest issue is whether the toon can match his ambition? maaybe we are giving the lad too much credit because whereas there is no doubt he has fantastic potential, we need to see him put a run of 10 games together before breaking down with injury. for some reason, and based on someones advice, the club really pushed the boat out for a crouton like nial ranger, yet appear to be intransigent when ut comes to aarons.

  28. stuart79, i’d love to see villa relegated if the truth be known, but i fear sherwood might give them the boost they need to scrape through. would like to see leicester and the makkems join them but i fear qpr will fill one of the spots.
i reckon qpr, leicester and burnley will go down, though hull and the makkems will be mighty close. love the way that poyet’s ego is causing disruption at the makkems, splitting the fans …

      (Quote)

  29. Aye, Munich, it would be fun to watch Villa go down. Although if they go down it will be because they’re just don’t score enough goals, not because they are in the FA QF.

  30. the only time i really seen jonas have an effect game for us was when KK was in charge.

watching him trying to put a cross into the box was so frustrating. & for that mask he had stuffed down his wagons – i think he only ever got to pull it out half a dozen times?

was he £7 million? i would say a waste of money.

that said – i would like to see him get his wish & play another game for the toon.

    i doubt he will tho.

      (Quote)

  31. 😆 **** me Stu, that must be a world record on how far you’ve thrown your toys this time mate 😆

So to summarise, you believe that Aaron’s should be offered 15-20k pw – the same amount I said – only i would want him to show more of his ability in the remainder of the season as at this time he’s only made 3 appearances. What I actually said was that he only signed his pro contract in the summer 2014 – so for the club to treble his wages after 6 mths and 3 apps wasn’t all that bad.
I don’t disagree that he has bags of potential, but so did Keiron Dyer and he had an injury plagued career – the concern for me is that he’s played 3 games and been out injured for 4 mths. If he comes back and has a further 10 games playing at the standard & excitement we saw in those few games then defo give him 15-20k pw.

As for the ‘lie’ I’m being accused of, what you have done is cut & paste YOUR post, not mine. I didn’t say you said it – I said if you believe that Aaron’s should be paid 40,50,60k pw then your off your tits. I said that because you never once actually posted what you believe the club should be offering Aaron’s. As it turns out, you actually agree with me, only you’d offer it now and I’d want to see a bit more of him.

Well worth making such a song and dance over and bringing it from one article to the next 🙄

      (Quote)

  32. As for Danny Ings – he’s earned his spurs at Burnley and is currently on around £15k pw. He’s played 109 games for them and scored 36 goals. He’s been a major factor in their promotion and is being a major factor in the survival bid. Hes 22 yr old and has a 1-3 return for goals scored. His contract is up in the summer – so any fee would be a compo payment and I’d reckon around £7m.
At no point have I said that he’s a proven PL player, but I have said he’s low risk.
I said 60k as that’s the reported offer from Sociadad – and I’m comparing what contribution he could offer over the likes of Marv, Benny, Jonas and Xisco – who were all on around 50-60k pw for us.

Is that really such a big fucking deal?

      (Quote)

  33. There you go again, writing complete bollocks… Look back on my comments and you can see where I have said what I would pay Aarons. Why should he accept £6k now on a promise that if he does well he will get more, when other clubs will offer him the going rate now? But you’re happy to give Ings a big wage straight away for fear of him going somewhere else. You don’t seem to bothered about possibly losing Aarons though. Why is this? Again your twisted logic.

So let me try and put this in lay mans terms for you to see how ridiculously lob sided your argument is; One player is young, talented with huge potential (costing us nothing) after playing 3/4 PL games scoring 3 goals so we should offer him £6k a week with a promise of more if he performs well. Ignoring the fact other teams will offer him the going rate now and take the risk that he’s going to be as good as they think. The other player is young, talented with huge potential after playing 20 PL games and scoring 9 goals but we should offer him £60k a week so that we don’t lose him to other clubs.

Now you try and explain that… 😕

      (Quote)

  34. I’ll explain it Stuart – Sharpy thinks differently to you.

After hundreds of words cleverly concocted I’m sure you’re smart enough to understand that. 😛

      (Quote)

  35. I would accept totally that, Georgio if his views didn’t differ to such an extent on two very, very similar situations. Or can’t you understand that?

It’s a little bit like having a maths test (maybe strange concept to you) where question number 1 is: 10 x 10 and question number 2 is 2 x 50 but coming up with different answers. How is that possible?

      (Quote)

  36. Essentially Sharpy is saying Ings is worth an additional £54k a week because he has played about 16 more PL games than Aarons. That just doesn’t make sense.

But it must also be clear that my views are very similar to Sharpy on Ings. He’s a good player and I would probably take the risk and pay him £60k a week if we got him for a good price, but I would also pay Aarons £15-£20k a week because I believe that’s the going rate.

In Sharpy’s world Aarons would have to prove himself to get to the going rate but Ings doesn’t. That’s what I don’t understand.

Maybe 9 goals in 20 PL games makes him a proven PL player worth £60k a week…

      (Quote)

  37. On another note I notice our Young uns ended up on the losing side last night against Chelsea. I suppose it’s an incredible feat considering we only use players from within a 30 mile radius of SJP.

      (Quote)

  38. Way too much for both of them Stuart. I see 6k a week for a kid just starting out as OK as long as there’s a clause raising it gradually with appearances. Maybe that is the deal? Arma has 9 appearances so what does that make him worth.
I like Ings too but for 60k a week? Not sure on that. It would raise the bar for any genuine star signing and Ashley won’t do that.

      (Quote)

  39. But Georgio we must follow the market trends. The market is going up as the income is going up – that’s basic economics. Nobody likes it but that’s where Football is at the minute.

We literally either keep up or we fall behind, pretty much like we have done for the last couple of years.

      (Quote)

  40. Id give 60k per week to Ings and establish him as our scorer, he just need an opportunity at bigger club and we a very realistic option if we want to. Ings got has much abilities than a Remy and more than Cisse who just knows how to score. Remy was on 80k right? What about Ba? Carroll?? All on big wages so Id try him as he is worth the shot and can have bright future ahead of him. It would put Ayoze on a wing, Sammy on the other and Aarons as 1st sub.

    —————–Ings————–

Subs:Darlow, Good, Dummett, Tioté, Cabella, Aarons, de Jong.

    Roberts, Campbell,

  44. 11k crowd at SJP last night to watch the younguns. Beat the previous record of 7K when Gazza and crew played.

How many other clubs could get those crowds. Incredible really.

  45. Jonas won’t get his swansong unless he’s needed or one of the last few games is a guaranteed result late on. Would be nice if we’re winning 3-0 in the last home game and he can come on for a standing ovation. But if it doesn’t happen, I’m sure he can come on the pitch to say goodbye anyway.

But it’s funny how many fans will be demanding he gets some time and slating the club for (dubious) newspaper reports about how they treated him, yet a few months before many fans were slagging him off and saying he was rubbish.

I always thought he was a decent player, seems like a good bloke and he certainly always tried hard for the team. It’s nice to have players with extravagant skill like HBA, but I have a lot more respect for hard working players like Jonas. Combine the 2 players and that’s Messi.

      (Quote)

  46. Pretty sure that Satka is 4th choice centre back now. These guys need to see that they have a chance to get first team football. No point in constantly buying complete (often foreign) players and our youth seeing the path blocked by players that are only a bit better than them.

  47. Ings…first season in the PL…can’t be sure he’ll be a top player yet. Think of Phillips, Scowcroft, Ricketts, Zaki…all scored heavily in their first season and tailed off.

Unless you’re an expert (in which case you should be working in professional football), I’m not sure how you judge which of these players is really a top player and which is a one-season-wonder. I certainly can’t judge so I’ll retain my judgement until Ings has done it for a couple of seasons.

  48. And guys…football is all about money these days. You simply can’t measure a club my the metrics that you could 20 years ago.

A good profit for the club is the best way for us to grow and hopefully challenge for Europe again one day.

      (Quote)

  49. Oh…and when I say a good profit for the club, that’s assuming that the owners aren’t taking millions out of it…

Thankfully this owner hasn’t really done that yet. I don’t mind him making a profit when he sells up. Just glad he isn’t taking millions like FFS and Douglas Hall.
