The inquest into our utterly hapless display against Everton on Sunday will s

ee people find various culprits to blame; but for me a large chunk of blame has to go to our captain Fabricio Coloccini.
In a game where the team seem to start brightly the wheels soon fell off big style. First up we failed to get a stonewall penalty, quite how Martin Atkinson failed to see the ball bounce off James McCarthy’s arm is a mystery. That decision was to soon haunt us as McCarthy opened the score with a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box which Tim Krul should really have done better with. Try as they might they simply couldn’t find a way back into the game and were finding it hard to keep Lukaku locked out who was afforded the freedom of the pitch by Newcastle.
Second half saw the introduction of Ayoze Perez in place of Obertan but we only had to wait around ten minutes before Everton struck again, this time the afore mentioned Lukaku slotted home a penalty conceded after Gouffran brought down Lennon just inside the box.
Then just when you need a clear level head our Captain decides that it’s fine to make a late, studs up challenge! Quite why he felt when the game was lost that a challenge like that was warranted I have no clue. To make matters worse it leaves us at the bare bones with defenders now, just one senior centre back available.
Fast forward to injury time and the impressive sub Ross Barkley rounds Tim Krul to slot home Evertons third of the game.
I don’t know what’s the sadder, the lack of leadership off the pitch or on it. Not once have I seen our Captain berate or encourage other players and it was very disappointing he chose yet again not to speak up at the end of the game in front of the cameras to explain his action and that of the team. No, that was left to Ryan Taylor the consumate professional to address.
Am I the only one here who thinks the time is well over due for a change in captain? To make a challenge like that when we are at bare bones and the game lost is unforgivable in my opinion. And so we go into a derby in two games time against what will possibly be a boyed Sunderland with a new boss in place, with one senior center Back.
I haven’t gone into our attempts as there wasn’t many to be honest, a decent free kick from Taylor and a well saved shot from Sissoko late on the only stand out moments.
Quite where we go from here on in heaven only knows, with just one decent forward in Perez and a patched up defence we are really up against it for the run in.
I feel a bit sorry for John Carver, he has had terrible luck with injuries and suspensions and to be fair his comment about not being Houdini is fair. But if John Carver isn’t the leader for this team then our captain certainly isn’t either.

  1. So Carver has had discussions with the board about investment in the summer… Why don’t they just announce him now as coach?

  2. Fabian Schar & Micah Richards who we’ve been linked with this week are available on bosmans. Both would be perfect for us imo

With young Lascelles coming in would finally give us depth at CB & Richards would be good competion for Janmaat as well

There will be plenty of competition but they have pulled off more unlikely deals

  3. Only 13 fit outfield players. And that includes useless ones like Obertan. The club is a disgrace as run by Ashley. How much more proof do people need? So are people still willing to go to home games and give Ashley more money and no incentive to change or sell up?

      (Quote)

  4. Let’s assume for a minute that Ashley hasn’t lost all his marbles. So he brings in a head coach in the summer and gets rid of Carver et al. How much money will he be willing to commit to a rebuild? 20M pounds? He has never spent more than that in one window even when we were in deep danger of relegation (I think he spent 19M pounds net to bring in 5 players a few seasons ago). So where would that get us? Two or three decent players? Not nearly good enough. The man has to go and the only way to force him out is a full boycott. If the supporters don’t have the courage to do it then they’ll get what they deserve. More of the same.

  5. how much have Kiev opened up Everton tonight? Made them look the average team they are, while we made them look class..

  6. The reek of failure is all around the club now. Accepting Carver as coach for half a season. Making no effort to bring in fresh ideas (as even Sunderland have). Accepting poor play and making excuses. A head coach who’s winning percentage is now under 20. Complete lack of depth at CB and forward. Complete failure to be a good and proper owner. Huge amounts of profit not reinvested in the club. Should I continue?

  7. Sharpy yeah I like Byram, shame we didn’t get clyne two years ago when some of us were talking about him…if Shaw is worth 30 he’ll be what, 45? 😆

  8. I believe most of the people who go to the matches now are either young or completely out of touch with the modern game and don’t care what kind of dross they see. I’m sure many watched Man City against Barca yesterday. That was football. What we play currently is a farce and a sham supported by deluded, selfish people.

      (Quote)

  9. The city is disgracing itself and Ashley is taking complete advantage. Once this season is over anyone who believes Ashley has the best interests of the club in mind should seriously consider psychiatric treatment.

  10. Santon playing for Inter tonight against Wolfsburg and yet was deemed surplus to requirements for us. I am watching it and they are using a back three with Santon as a wingback, floating between a defensive and attacking role.

He was supposedly fit for a while before we loaned him. This whole situation is incomprehensible.

      (Quote)

  11. Eric – do Inter have Parver for a coach ❓
    nuff said 😕
He would never even dream of playing like that.
4-4-2 cloggers is all he needs, Santon isn’t one of them.
But I agree, that the methodology (?) of the club is un-fathomable.
Beyond all comprehension, and without ANY explanation.
    Total bunch of fuckwits

  12. Looks like Carver is getting sucked in by Ashley big time.

Pardew was exactly the same when he first arrived and was fed lines by Ashley, rather Derek at the time, about big investments, future plans, money to spend. Slowly with time, Pards began to realise it was all bullshit but went along with it anyway.

Carver looks like he’s on Ashleys hook and biting big.

It’s whether he puts up with it after a few humiliating kicks in knackers of false promises. I’ve got a feeling he may be more outspoken than Pards and express his disdain publicly.

For the benefit of Begas. I did not use grandma Baba’s spiritual friends for those predictions, just my owns thoughts. I only use her crystal ball when really necessary, such as trying to locate Huffstar in the outback when he goes on one of his epic hissy fits. 😛

What a clot he’s made of himself this year.

Actually, that’s what the Good drinks guide booklet must have meant when it said, It’s going to be a good year for Australian whine. 😯

I don’t believe anyone refers to the EPL being the best league in the world nowadays in terms of the best quality. It’s widely accepted that it’s just the most entertaining.

  18. …only embarrassed for you and Stuart, Troy!
You have both blown that much wind up each others arses, you have both floated of to your own little dreamland! I cringe at many of your comments, mainly out of pity for how delusional you have become. You used to have a bit of wit about you but you are just like your buddy Stuart… It’s sad really!

  19. Haha. 😛

Don’t take it out on me Huffstar, just cos Stuart has cleaned the floor with you over the past few months. 😛

Don’t worry, I still have my sense of humour, albeit it’s tempered now by the whiners who complain incessantly about anything that doesn’t suit their miserable characters. 🙄

Seriously though Huffstar. You must comeback on and talk us through the epic hissy fit that has shook the blog world. 😛

    Talk to me! Discuss. 😆

My skinnys are ditched for the summer! Bring out the chaps! 😯

  21. Bris – European games puts individual teams from different leagues against each other. I think the EPL is probably the most entertaining and competitive league – as in the top clubs aren’t nailed on to win was likely as say Spain or Germany.
I think it’s widely accepted that the best individual teams in world football would be Barca, Bayern and Madrid.

  22. Sharpy its 3 games but they are spread over 5 weeks.

Troy @ 317 spot on I bet they have been blowing smoke up JC’s *** and throwing him a few scraps .

      (Quote)

  23. A lot of the talk about new players in the summer, but I guess the amount of investment will depend on how much we raise from player sales.
I know Perez says he is happy to stay here, but if the mancs offer enough cash, he will be gone.
    Same goes for Sissoko imho.
This should raise enough for 4/5 cheap replacements.
Add in a small amount of tv money and we should have a full strength team ready to go next season. mid table will be highly achievable.
Roll up, roll up get your season tickets while you still can.

      (Quote)

  24. If, BIG IF, we have a coach who is used to getting the best out of youngsters we have the basis of a decent team next season. Cisse, Perez & SDJ; with Sissoko, Cabella, Aarons, Abeid & Colbeck in midfield. which only leaves the defence, but as all those who were calling for Martinez a couple of seasons back know, we don’t need one do we. That’s the Newcastle way.

      (Quote)

  25. Dave/Boots – that makes more sense now, thanks for clearing that up 😳

Prem – I don’t know what your thoughts or preferred choice would be on the new coach, but I get a gut feeling that Steve McClaren would do a good job.

      (Quote)

  26. Sharpy do you really think we’ll be getting a new head coach, even after JC comes out and confirms that he has had some input into preseason and new players coming in ?

      (Quote)

  27. Dave – his form in the 1st half of the season put him in the shop window, but he hasn’t maintained that form. I think you’re probably, I just don’t know where he’ll end up, or who will pay the kind of fee we will want for him.

      (Quote)

  28. Sharpy. I like McLaren and would not object. However I think he fits into the Safe EPL manger category along with Big Sam, Pards, Pulis, Bruce, Hughes. All will do a job, but not move things forward. A couple of years back I would have said Bielsa, but that is both unlikely and maybe not in the EPL anyway. I’d love Frank de Boer, but he is not leaving Ajax next year and would go to a bigger club. I really don’t know enough about continental coaches to have a favourite.

      (Quote)

  29. Dave – I think it’s highly unlikely (unfortunately). I can live in hope, but if the inevitable happens & Carver stays on, I dont see him being successful and doubt he’d last a season.

      (Quote)

  30. Sharpy @ 340 😉 saying that I wouldn’t put it past the regime to string JC along to keep him onside and spread good PR, then to drop him like a piece of dirt .
Like I can remember Big Al being told he had the job, and after arranging the pre season etc wasn’t even told that they didn’t want him and had give the job to Hooters

  31. What a pack of greedy pigs,a toon fan from USA over here for his mums funeral went to SJP to buy a ticket for the game on Sat and was told he has to buy membership (£35) before he could buy a ticket as there is no public tickets for sale although there is nearly 3thou tickets un-sold,what a way to run a bloody club ffs

      (Quote)

  32. Prem – I agree with you about McClaren, but I think that’s our best option at the moment under Ashley. I don’t see the point in getting a forward thinking manager in, unless that is the ambition of the owner.

Dave – I don’t doubt Sissoko has the quality and clubs will have seen that. But NUFC would probably value that at around £20m or more – I’m not sure many clubs would be willing to pay that for him – and with around 4yrs left on his contract, then I think we hold the cards.

      (Quote)

  33. Dave – I’m sure there could be an element of that too mate. Wait to see what happens with other clubs and who is available in the summer. JC is on an 8yr contract, so I think whatever happens he will remain at the club in some capacity – unless he chooses to leave, which I dont see likely.

Ice – business is business you know mate 🙄

      (Quote)

  34. I know it’s all Ashley’s fault and that we lack ambition, but I can’t see any owner coming in and pouring in the money to challenge for top 4. Not that FFP would allow it anyway. Nobody wants Europa league as it costs too much in EPL money. Which leaves top 10. Which is what we are budgeting for anyway. Cup runs would be nice, entertaining football would be nice. But actually what is there for an owner to get excited about especially when the fans have decided to hate him.

  38. Prem @ 346 you keep talking about us not being able to challenge the top 4 but I never hear any fans saying we should be challenging the top 4.
You say nobody wants Europa but I dont agree and I know most fans would want to be in Europe, and I have heard plenty of players say that they would want to play in Europe and even the Europa because you are still up against some of the best teams in Europe.

  39. I find the A-league more entertaining than most PL games. And when I think about it, football wise, I’m often more entertained by an average Spanish game than an average PL game. I much prefer the Spanish game than the helter skelter of the PL. Entertainment is obviously in the eye of the beholder, or what you have invested in it emotionally. You guys invest in the PL, I invest in the A-league.

In fact, most of my enjoyment of the PL is because of the fantasy league. 😆 and my association with Newcastle.

And given the comments I read here on match days, an average PL game doesn’t do much for most people … except those who get off on being hyper critical. And Newcastle’s games are pretty much the average sort of PL game.

But nice to see that you guys have found a fall back position. It’s good know the British still have faith that they are the tops at something. 😉

      (Quote)

  40. Dave I’m not suggesting that fans are after top 4. Very few fans are that deluded. As to the Europa I think that for many clubs, not fans, the loss in earnings due to dropping down the EPL together with the need for a bigger squad means that it is seen as a booby prize more than a target to aim for. Hence it is logical for a club like us to aim for top ten.

From the fans point of view, yes I enjoyed our Europa cup run under Pardew, and would like to see it again. Together with the domestic cups and entertaining footie it’s all we have. But I think it’s the fault of the way the EPL has grown and the finances involved as much as “lack of ambition” by the owner, coz I can’t see what ambition he is supposed to have.

  41. Anyway. sorry folks. Got a train to catch. Off for a weeks holiday, See you next weekend.

  42. Carver? New manager? Coach? Truth is we need a total clear out. About 10 players need to be moved on one way or another. Not going to happen and next season will resemble this and last and the one before. Hopeless!

As a matter of interest. This ‘loan’ of Ashleys is supposedly him finding the remaining debt on the stadium rebuild and paying it off. I’d like to know how much of the debt would now be left if he’d just left it and made the yearly payments like Shepherd planned. Fans shafted again?

  49. Reason why Ashley does what he does with Nufc is all due to TV revenues. EPL is overrated and all about entertaining lol. For tomorrow, if we go with Obertan Riviere Gouffran in the line up dont think we’ll score, dont think well conceed less than 3 goals. Here is my team, whether Janmaat start CB or RB, Satka just has to start tomorrow.

    ——————-Krul—————–
    -Janmaat–Willo–Satka-Raylor–
    —————-Colback—————
    ———-Jonas——Sissoko——-
    —-Sammy—————-Ayoze—-
    —————–Ferreyra————–

We do suck yes, but the most sorry thing is that Arsenal despite their players are not scary at all.

      (Quote)

  50. We don’t play Ferreyra because he sucks Cholo mate. That means he might possibly be even worse than Riviere at scoring goals. Can you imagine that against the gunners? It makes me shudder. Five for them, none for us tomorrow.
