Game On! Newcastle United Vs Arsenal

Newcastle-United-vs-Arsenal
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the highs and lows as Newcastle United host Arsenal today in the Barclays Premier League (3pm kick-off).
The Magpies go into the fixture on the back of a very disappointing 3-0 defeat at Everton last Sunday, while Arsenal triumphed 2-0 away at Monaco in the Champions League on Tuesday, although still exited the competition.
When the side met earlier this season, the Gunners took the bragging rights, easing to a 4-1 triumph at the Emirates Stadium in December, with Ayoze Perez heading in United’s consolation goal. a very interesting and surprising stat for me is that we haven’t beat Arsenal at SJP since Dec 2005.
Speaking to the press John Carver said “I’ve had some big challenges in the past but this will be one of the biggest. You’ve got to be careful when you play against sides like Arsenal. We’ve got to consolidate and make sure we don’t concede early, that’s for sure. Against a good side like this it will be very, very difficult to get the ball. Their possession stats are one of the highest in the division, so they are a good footballing side and they like to play. So we are going to have to be patient but we do have one or two things up our sleeve when we get turnovers, and we will try to break them down.”

  1. Troysta: most said that Carver did not and does not have the credentials to be the manager of the 19th richest club in the world except on a VERY short term basis and certainly not until the end of the the season. That reflects badly and shows the incompetence of senior management (or actually total lack of senior management as we are essentially being run by an accountant and a scout).

We have played a good game against Hull and a good half today but still lost. If that justifies your Pardew to Carver pass-the-torch argument then I would have to ask YOU who are the clueless crew?

      (Quote)

  2. MM: Carver already had his imprint on the set-pieces. As I said to Troysta, he does not have the credentials for the Toon Manager’s job and certainly has had a long enough time in coaching / management to show whether he qualifies.

We are not in a situation where we need to take a flyer on someone totally unproven at this level. We can still attract someone with a good track record but probably from another league (France or Germany).

Remember Ashley’s reasoning for getting rid of Hughton – because he had taken us to the highest level Fatty thought he would reach? Hughton won the Championship with record points and had a half season in the Premiership. Carver has even less experience as top dog and much worse results. One half of great football doesn’t make him qualified. Remember Brum won a cup and went down so it is possible for bad managers (McLeish) to do well for a few games.

  3. Psychs.

I can bang my drum to the sensible amd they dance. I can do it to Clueless and they wonder who is knocking at the door. 🙄

Do you really think I rate Pardew or Carver? Do you really believe I think they are worthy to coach NUFC?

Have you got the memory of a gold fish. ? Don’t think about that. You’ll forget the question.

My opinions are all based on Ashleys standards. I’m making judgements on Ashleys standards and the managers he appoints.

Pardew is a standard premier league manager. Many like you think otherwise and are so Clueless that you thought by campaigning for his sacking, a better manager would be appointed.

All I’ve ever stated is, you are Clueless because you will get rid of Pards for another puppet.

However, even though Carver was a likely option that I predicted, I am not that arrogant to judge him after less than a dozen games.

I expect him to be another also ran manager. However no matter what he turns out to be, he’s a cheap gamble for Ashley which is what I predicted.

  4. Oh dear. Psychs stares vacantly into space and starts counting the stars. He’s counted 30 which are visible to the naked eye and accepts that is how many stars are in our universe. Bless the little critter. Bless 😆

  5. It’s like Trigger off fools and horses. He brags he’s had the same broom for 20 yrs despite him explaining he’s changed the head and the shaft 20 times. Got to live Psycho. He’s a larf 😀 Bless. 😛

  6. BB, I thought you clearly won the debate! Big Dave is hardly an unbiased arbiter imo 😉
Troy tried to force me into changing my opinion by badgering me with incessant posts… he doesn’t seem to grasp the fact that someone might have a different view to him! Its sad really!

      (Quote)

  7. Wow! Are you that sensitive Huffstar ? 😀

Sad really. I couldn’t live my life like that. 😉

Mind to be fair to Psycho, he never hides. He fronts up. You on the other hand let that boulder crush your shoulder. 😛

Come on Psychs, give me your pearls of wisdom. I love his replies. Comedy gold. 😛

  8. Huffstar

BB is going to ignore me from now on apparently 😛

Just because I politely bring up his infamous quote which I know he cringes at. “Pardew is out of his depth as a premier league manager” 😛

I invite anyone to agree with him just to give him support. 😉

  9. Little Huffstar must be devastated that he did an Elizabeth Violet and sthweemed & sthweemed & sthweemed and everyone ignored him. 😛

Anyone who does know who Elizabeth Violet is, google her. Woo hoo hoo ho. 😆

The behaviour of Huffstar is one of the best tantrums ever seen. Woo hoo hoo hoo 😆

  10. Aussie at 231 I always had time for you but from you threw all your toys out of the pram after accusing me and others of misquoting you or twisting your words etc I couldn’t be bothered anymore, as it seems that you only ever come on now to try to have a very poor dig at Troy ,Stu or me.
But if that pleases you knock yourself out as im not wasting my time with someone that can’t debate a point.

      (Quote)

  11. I was proud of the lads today, especially that second half. But we still dropped down a place and we still took the loss. If we play like that against Sunderland we’ll beat them easily. Still a poor season thanks to Ashley and Charnley. Ashley still is and always will be our biggest problem.

  12. Troy says:
“The day someone ignores you is the day you’ve won”

    Big Dave says:
“Aussie…….. im not wasting my time with someone that can’t debate a point”

Does that mean that Aussie has won?

      (Quote)

  13. No problem Big Dave. I find that you are a hypocrite most of the time. You say that snide remarks are not to your liking and yet you are one of the main offenders. How many times have I been Ashleys PR person when I disagree with the popular opinion on here? You defend posters who are going out of their way to wind up others. And when someone arcs up, they apparently have lost the debate! And you do twist my words to suit your agenda. The example the other day about leaders is a classic example. And even after I called you out for being wrong about what I wrote, you still couldn’t put your hand up and admit you were wrong. No you just post 5 or 6 comments trying to explain your way out of it. As you with me, I always had time for you but of late….well there you go!

  14. Dear me. Get a bloody backbone Huffstar. 🙄

Elizabeth Violet hasn’t got a look in with you.

    Grow up.

  16. Troy, you have made countless jibes against me and I of you. .I have never complained once…it just ***** me when it seems that only certain people get called out for **** stirring!

      (Quote)

  17. AMF@243, good to see you back on here mate :-).

You’re big point of contention is that certain bloggers on here seem to veer off in the negative, whereas you are more in the positive camp (or at least that’s how I read you)…
What did you think of our performance yesterday ?

I thought our second half performance was phenomenal in comparison to the shoyt we have churned out over the last months and years. Considering we only had supposedly 13 fit first teamers, and four of those are Williamson, Anita, Gouffron and Obertan, that wasn’t a bad performance against a normally clinical Arsenal side who are pushing hard for the EPL and Champions League positions….
Hats off to JC for his half time talk, it obviously hit the spot.. and to the players too of course..

      (Quote)

  18. I’ve observed everything that’s gone on Huffstar.

    Let me explain.

For years Stuart got a lot of abuse and snidey remarks hurled his way and he never responded. He was an easy target as he rarely rose or bit. You were one of those who participated.

Of late he has started to retaliate and particularly took you on in debates and began highlighting your snidey remarks and giving you back some stick that was long over due.

It was clear you didn’t like it and on many occasions he backed you off until you had a little temper tantrum and huffy break.

This continued until one day you couldn’t take anymore and you erupted which sent tremors round the blog world.

The biggest huff is now still going and all records are breaking with every minute that passes.

I honestly don’t know how a grown man behaves that way.

  19. Troy, I have never stated that I don’t make snide remarks…I just don’t call others on it and take some sort of moral.higher ground.. the ashley pr man jibe doesn’t even bother me, I just used it as a example that everyone is guilty of stirring ****!
And I remember lots of occasions in the past where you have paid on Stuart so please use that as an example!

      (Quote)

  20. Eric@226, we all need to be given the chance to develop mate. Were you born a top manager or did you also go through a learning process before you arrived wher you are today, at the pinnacle of your profession ?

JC has learnt from some of the best, Gullit, SBR, Souness , Allardyce, Shearer, Pardew, and now he has been given the chance to show what he can do himself. Mike Ashley will stick by him until he can show that he is man enough for the task. He is doing his best with Pardew’s team, and also making a valiant effort in the light of an absolutely unbelievable injury list which has robbed him of quite a lot of his senior squad. We’ll only see Carver’s team when he has been in charge for 6 months or so and has his own players in the line-up.

Regarding you’re use of the term “clueless crew”…I don’t recognise that term mate, you need to ask the bloggers who coined the term…

      (Quote)

  21. Troy rewriting history and putting on blinkers. 😆 😆

Good second half v Arsenal. It really was quite exciting in the end. Well done Mr Carver for getting that reponse, and well done to the players for producing it.

Now they just need to do it a few weeks in a row, and for the whole game. If Carver can get them playing like that every week I think I’d give him the job.

      (Quote)

  22. Cheers Eminem! The second half showed that we can mix it with any team if the desire and passion is there from the players! I spoke with an Arsenal fan today and he was bricking it in the second half and couldn’t wait for the whistle. Would like to see a bit more footy like that tbh, it has been sadly lacking!

      (Quote)

  23. Huffstar

We’ve all made comments about one another at some stage. How it bothers you to go in a huff is beyond me.

Let’s be honest about all this, that’s what you’ve done so put your hands up, learn from it, get over it, and get back on the blog.

      (Quote)

  24. Im not in a huff. ..that’s the thing, I would call it indifference. .. a bit like how you are with your bro b&b 😉

      (Quote)

  25. AMF@253, my thoughts too on the second half, a great performance and refreshing after the stuttering stuff we have seen over the last months.

we need to keep Anita, Gouffron and Willaimson out of the first eleven. They try there best but they just aint good enough… Squad players at best, I feel they’ll all be overtaken next season when the new Toon come to town under Johnny Carver.

      (Quote)

  26. Agree on those 3 mate but I reckon Anita would benefit from a good run of games and not being played as a defensive minded mid…would love to see him pushed further forward closer to the strikers…or striker!

      (Quote)

  27. Aussie the Jabba’s PR man was never a snide remark that was just a bit of a laugh, and im sure you will have noticed I only ever have a laugh or wind up with the bloggers that I feel I get on with.

  28. It’s a bit like waiting for a bus, you wait ages for a bus and none arrives, then two Aussies come along at the same time 🙂

      (Quote)

  29. AMF@258, I reckon Anita could be better in a better team, but playing him further up field closer to the striker(s). The bloke is powder puff light weight, is inflexible, can’t shoot to save his life, and is knee high to a grasshopper. Have yee been oot the neet ? 😆 😆

A squad player at best. 🙄

      (Quote)

  30. Gutted to not come away with a point yesterday as we really earned one, if only we could finish the chances we create. Their keeper made a couple of excellent saves too. Perez MOTM for me, ran his heart out and has mesmerizing feet, scared the **** out of Arsenal at times.

      (Quote)

  31. I would be surprised if we got 7.5 for Tiote 😯
I was going to say if we got offered that we should snap their hand of, because I dont think he wants to be here, but then if we got shot of any player that didnt want to be here we wouldn’t have much of a team 😀

      (Quote)

  32. If the players are really playing for JC and trying to get him the job permanently, as they say, then the match against the mackems will be a cracker.
There really is no excuse not to put in a 90 min performance akin to that 2nd half yesterday.
The suspensions of Cisse and Colo will have done more damage to us than a lot of the injuries.
If JC pulls it off against the mackems, then the job is his.

      (Quote)

  33. Would Tiote pass a medical I have my doubts unless the lad is swinging the lead,I still think he is a red card waiting to happen,he’s fine while the team is coping but when we are on the back foot he dives in to often imo like

      (Quote)

  34. MM agree mate as none of top six clubs that could pay that sort of fee would take a chance on him, mind with this new TV money some of the lower teams might stick there neck out but don’t think Tiote would go there, mind he needs the money he has a few wife’s to look after lol

      (Quote)

  35. Some of the comments on here last night made me actually laugh out loud.
As a youngster my grandma taught me an important lesson – stick & stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me ;-).
We are all different, and we have different opinions and views on things – some similar and others poles apart. If an opinion differs from yours it right to question it to understand it and debate it – but we are all adults on here (I believe), so surely it can be done respectfully.
However, the reality is that more often than not, it’s done for self entertainment.

      (Quote)

  36. As for yesterday – I don’t think we played terrible in the first half, we just showed no urgency at all – playing with flip flops on to a degree. Williamson was slaughtered by Giroud – he was out muscled by the guy.
Second half we looked so much better, and I reckon there are 7 players there who are very good and we must keep hold of them and build round them – Krul, Janmaat, Colback, Sissoko, Cabella, Sammy and Perez. Of the players out I’d probably add Cisse, Dummett and possibly Aaron’s and De Jong to. But that’s 11 players from a squad – so this isn’t getting fixed in 1 transfer window.

      (Quote)

  37. My hope would be that if we sell Tiote, that could mean we hold on to Sissoko – at least for another season anyway. I think he’s only going to improve or become more consistent, which would mean his price tag would only go up – and that can only appeal to Mike.

      (Quote)

  38. Sharples@273, as ever the voice of reason….. 😉

I thought that Sammy did really well at times yesterday. He has recognised the importance of trying to retail the ball, and didn’t give the ball up too cheaply yesterday. He also has really quick feet, and I think that with more movement throughout the team we would create space which we could exploit with our tricky fleet-footed strikers.
I suppose the question is whether he would get a start once Aarons gets back and proves himself. I would put Sammy ahead of him in the pecking order at the minute.

      (Quote)

  39. Munich – I think Sammy has been given the opportunity this season to really show himself and he’s improved along the way. I think he’ll continue to improve, and he should have a new contract by now imo. I also think the kid is as loyal as his brother, and if Aaron’s comes in and bumps him, Sammy would stay and do a good job for us whenever he was called upon.

      (Quote)

  40. I really don’t think you can compare Sammy and Aarons different players all together, if Aarons stays fit he will be a great asset I think the kid has a brain and his pace is what is needed defenders hate pace,Ime not sure on Sammy yet

      (Quote)

  41. Huffstar

My relationship with my brother is entirely different from those on the blog.

You can call it what you want but I know it’s a huff you’re in. 😉

      (Quote)

  42. Ice – I’m not comparing their style of play, only that they are our left sided players at the moment. I agree that Aaron’s offensively is a more direct player, and because of that, probably a better option. I think Sammy is more of a grafter and helps out the full back really well. Different players that allows 2 different ways of play.

      (Quote)

  43. I see the papers today link us with Neil Taylor from Swansea for £3m – very good player at a good price I reckon – if he can stay fit.
Taylor & Haidara at LB would allow Dummett to be moved over to CB.

      (Quote)

  44. Kim – I think he was mentioned in the past, but I’m not sure how far that interest went like.

That’s a surprisingly honest from Pardew – makes a refreshing change.

      (Quote)

  45. Troysta says:

“Reet off to bed. No doubt the mice will come out when the cat sleeps.”

He thinks he is a cat rather than a wind up ****? Sorry for the swear word BD.

      (Quote)

  46. My only worry with Taylor is the lad is carrying to much weight he’s a little slow on the turn imo but at that money worth a punt.
Jabba will be very unhappy with Pardew coming out with the trûth

      (Quote)

  47. Ice, I have a feeling Pards will be letting quite a few things out over time. He’s keeping his powder dry for now, but there will be a big bang somewhere down the line mark my words, probably when they finish above us end of season, he’ll spill the beans proper. Never rated the guy, still don’t, but he was treated shabbily no doubts about that, should of walked sooner imo.

      (Quote)

  48. Unfortunately I can’t get the link to post on here, but if any ‘Pardew haters’ have access to the SSN app, they have his interview on there with Ben Shepard and Cammy.
Wow , he is very honest and self critical – something we didn’t see enough of when he was with us. He acknowledged his Derby record and the cup runs were terrible and he says that his biggest regret.

      (Quote)

  49. KIM I couldn’t stand the guy bit of a slime ball imo,why didn’t he come and say this when at the toon instead of ****-licking and often said we had a strong squad when he was here

      (Quote)

  50. Maybe I shouldn’t have directed that at Pardew haters, but I just think anyone who didn’t like the bloke would be the most surprised by his honesty.
I agree with Ice though, he should have shown more of that whilst at NUFC and he may have found a lot less fans turning on him.

      (Quote)

  51. Ice, Exactly, that’s always been my issue, if I worked in an environment I felt was stopping me doing my job I would make it known or walk away. He could of walked away after the 5th finish if he felt he wasn’t getting backed, his reputation would of been ok because of the 5th place and it’s not like he would of been skint. He was complicit in the whole **** fest imo, by virtue of the fact he **** licked at every opportunity. Dedicating wins to a guy that’s shafted you time and again makes no sense to me. Percy is a strange fruit, a mixture of arrogance and frightened puppy.

      (Quote)

  52. KIM@292 spot on,didn’t owlheed say they got rid of hoots because he not make big decisions,I ran a factory for quite a few years only met the board once a month but by god they got the truth and honesty, for me it keeps you on good terms if your dealing with honest people, not the case at SJP imo they are fifty faced

      (Quote)

  53. Finally Pardew coming out and telling it as it is. Last three windows haven’t been good enough… You can say that again, Alan.

      (Quote)

  54. In my opinion compairing Aarons and Sammy maked no sense, we should build with them, Aarons is more talented, but Sammy brings something different. he allows us to win ground and links well with Dummett and Haidara, links well with Sissoko. Id like to see Aarons as impact sub, and Id like to see Sammy be used as right winger and as striker too, he could create space for Ayo Remi and Sissoko when making runs foward. Just got to get rid of Gouffran Obertan Riviere Anita and Tiote, let Colo go if he wants to, keep Jonas and Raylor as leaders and veteran, and keep Sammy. Then if we sign Ayew, got de Jong back with Lascelles and Darlow coming, we we’ll just need one good coach. Jonas is now a Cm and if he wants to Janmaat could be a great Cb.

  55. percy coming out and saying this now shows what a spineless **** he is(sorry for the language BD)but no he would kiss jabbas **** till it was black and blue.
