Game On! Newcastle United Vs Arsenal

Newcastle-United-vs-Arsenal
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the highs and lows as Newcastle United host Arsenal today in the Barclays Premier League (3pm kick-off).
The Magpies go into the fixture on the back of a very disappointing 3-0 defeat at Everton last Sunday, while Arsenal triumphed 2-0 away at Monaco in the Champions League on Tuesday, although still exited the competition.
When the side met earlier this season, the Gunners took the bragging rights, easing to a 4-1 triumph at the Emirates Stadium in December, with Ayoze Perez heading in United’s consolation goal. a very interesting and surprising stat for me is that we haven’t beat Arsenal at SJP since Dec 2005.
Speaking to the press John Carver said “I’ve had some big challenges in the past but this will be one of the biggest. You’ve got to be careful when you play against sides like Arsenal. We’ve got to consolidate and make sure we don’t concede early, that’s for sure. Against a good side like this it will be very, very difficult to get the ball. Their possession stats are one of the highest in the division, so they are a good footballing side and they like to play. So we are going to have to be patient but we do have one or two things up our sleeve when we get turnovers, and we will try to break them down.”

  2. Ice was the take over happening before Pards joined? I would imagine they ok’d him if it was, even so with him doing well they have no need to get shot….yet 😉

  3. I see Pards is citing the sale of Cabaye and lack of cover for Loic Remy when he got injured for the start of the problems.

Funny, I highlighted those issues at the time yet they were dismissed by many on here.

Football is a simple game complicated by fools.

  4. Still dwelling on Cabaye, Pards, and Remy. Whoa, Whoa – keep that train slooowwwing down and live in the past Troysta. Never move on man, just bring up the same arguments.

  5. But:

    1. we played a good half of football yesterday and that in no way vindicates Carver as a good coach ‘cos we have also played ***** under Carver.

    2. Carver is more Pardew’s man than Robson’s man.

    3. Carver now has a winning % of about 17% – relegation fodder, whatever you feel about what Fatty and the Blow Hard (Pardew) left him with. It is still ***** and he has had 4 years to work with the players as a coach and 3 months as boss. He is ***** and we all know it except Troysta.

  6. MM: what is there to talk about until Mackems? el classico 🙂 Certainly not FC Hollywood since they bought your league. And I lived in Munchen.

  7. Troy, Why does Pards say all this now? Why not when here, he would of gotten the backing of the fans and you can’t sack a man for speaking out about lack of investment, and if they did he could sue for wrongful dismissal. Fact is he consistently came out to say he was happy with the squad. Now you may say that he had to say that but actually he didn’t, he could of said nothing at all. The blather, bull**** and general **** licking is what hacked off many fans. We are not daft, we know he had his hands tied to an extent but his tactics were often found wanting and he played incredibly negative, defensive football even at home when there was no need to. An example is yesterday, JC had us attacking with an patched up squad too, Pards would not have attempted that. Ok we lost but how entertaining was it to watch and we could easily have gotten something from the game but for some excellent saves .

  8. Eric@314, that exasperating yawn wasn’t aimed at you at all 😉
    Enjoy El Classico ….

  9. It’s not bringing old topics up Psycho. It’s current. Pards is in the papers today talking about his time at the toon. Just because I had this at the time and it was rubbished by you, yet Pards has now confirmed it.

    Kim
Pards was far from perfect. It’s just the ridiculous negative opinions about him that I disagree with. He did a decent job for us but I’ve always accepted he was a puppet. Nothing has changed. Carver is the new puppet.

    MM
    😉

  10. How do you come up with the 25M pound figure 9? Just pulled it out of thin air did you?

  11. MM: OK, I just saw you agreeing with Troysta earlier and thought the world had shifted on its axis and 1860 was now FC Hollywood and I was a Mackem.

  12. We’ve started to slip down the table after using up the gap that had developed. Pardew must be laughing. It took him 3 months to take a relegation bound side past us. That’s what we get for having Bozo the Clown as owner.

  13. Ah yes. El Classico

Great film. Cole Thornton, a gunfighter for hire, joins forces with an old friend, Sheriff J.P. Hara. Together with an old Indian fighter and a gambler, they help a rancher and his family fight a rival rancher that is trying to steal their water.

What side is that on? I love a good western

  14. I’m not saying we should have kept Pardew. I’m saying we should have hired a proper manager. Did you hear that Ashley? A proper manager, not a flunky head coach to kiss your ****.

  15. We’re in the muck and we’re going to stay in the muck. Ashley only knows one way to do things. On the cheap to maximize his profit. He’ll bring in a couple of new young players in summer and sell Sissoko who is trying to put himself in the shop window with his performances. Then we’ll struggle to start next season, Ashley will panic and sack Carver, and then bring in another yes man flunky boy **** kisser.

  16. Yes, lots to look forward to in the final 8 games. Will we win one? None? Two? The excitement is all around. Will we finish 12th? 13th? 14th? 15th? And then what will Ashley do? His minimum goal was top 10 wasn’t it? So what to do? It’s a real quandary for Bozo the Clown. Never mind Mike, the money will continue to roll in. It’s just difficult to find enough places to hide it. 👿

  17. Troysta: I watched “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly last night” I am the Good. I can’t decide if you are the Bad or the Ugly. Wait a minute, just saw the washing basket YouTube clip and you are definitely the Ugly. Obviously, not compared to Carvs because he sets a new standard for 50-year-old Ugly.

  18. MM@319, It’s only an hour later than if it were a normal 3pm ko. Thing is you will always get folk who can’t handle their drink and even less able to handle their emotions. What is of the upmost importance is adequate stewarding on the day and the same with police numbers, not a time for penny pinching with so much at stake. In sunderlands case it’s more about survival than pride this time around. Seems every season of late they need a helping hand from us on the points front and we usually oblige 🙄 Hopefully with the jinx of Percy gone and some spirit like we saw yesterday we will wreck their day but not our reputation with uncalled for violence.

  19. KT@330, I know it’s only an hour later mate, but it’ll be dark by the time the match ends (unless we have thousands of Sunnerlund supporters walking out at half time), and if the toon win there will be hell on. I just have a bad feeling mate, hope I’m wrong though…

  20. clocks go forwards next week, so extra hour of daylight in the evenings.
It was ridiculous with the 12:00 ko as the pubs were open from 7:30 anyway -(for breakfast apparently 😉 )
Come ko the fans that wanted to be pished up, were.
    Total farce.
[sorry for using the word ‘pished’ Big Dave – no offence intended]

  21. Im sure you know that saying pished, *****, c@nt etc in a conversation is completely different than calling a fellow blogger a ******* is totally different.

  22. There might be black Newcastle fans that don’t take to lightly being called a spade mate. Thats all i’m saying.

  23. Was just on newsnow reading through some of the quotes from Carver, we are going to get some exciting players in this summer, and its not just one or 2 players 😀 It didnt take Carver long to become Jabba’s puppet, but then again he does really want the job.
was also reading some of Pards comments from the SSN interview. I know people will say he should have spoke up at the time, but I would imagine he would have known that if he went against the regime he would have lost his job or they would have made it almost impossible to stay.

      (Quote)

  24. I can’t wait for the list of exciting names we tried, but failed, to get over the line, and for Carver to trot out the same lines Pards used to have to. The ****** is that we are 3-4 decent players away from having a squad that could compete 7th-10th, but we might get one and a few punts on youngsters

  25. GTE – it’s not beyond the realms of possibility to be fair mate – I mean look at the changes WHU made to their squad last summer. Mind in that case the board came out and said they wanted to make the changes and challenged fat Sam to change their playing style. I can’t say I can see our lot doing that in all honesty.

I have to say that it’s Swansea that continue to impress me. The changes they have made to both squad and managers, and yet they continue to maintain a consistent performance level – 8th at the moment and I don’t expect them to go higher than that, but don’t see them dropping lower than 10th either – but that’s still very good for Swansea imo.

  26. DAVE hope you share the photos with your mates this time Kim seems to be sending you some more 😉

  27. Ice I will mate aslong as they’re not too ott , its not that I dont want to share them with you, its more that im looking out for you bp 😉
