Game On! Newcastle Vs Swansea

Magpies v Swans
Magpies v Swans
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the highs and lows as we play host to Swansea in this afternoons Premier league game (3pm kick-off), Newcastle United will be looking to end their record equaling six-game losing run,as im sure JC will not want to lose 7 in a row and gain a new record.
We go into the fixture on the back of a 3-1 home defeat against Spurs, while Swansea also lost last time out – going down 2-0 at relegation-threatened Leicester City.
When the sides met earlier this season, Papiss Cisse scored twice as Newcastle twice came from behind to earn a point at the Liberty Stadium, cancelling out goals from Wilfried Bony and Wayne Routledge.
Speaking ahead of the game JC said “Swansea are a side who will try and keep the ball and so we’ll have to be patient at times, but I’ve got to come up with a winning formula and get the three points. I remember in the fixture last year they got a very late winner in the death of the game that killed us off a little bit. We know what they’re about and we know their strengths and weaknesses but it’s about us now. We got a good draw earlier in the season and we’re looking to take that one step further this weekend.”
TEAM NEWS
Newcastle – Siem de Jong returns to the matchday squad following a collapsed lung, and the Dutch international could make his first appearance since August after coming through two under-21 games unscathed.Jonas Gutierrez should also be back in the team, after making up with JC after their training ground bust up. Winger Rolando Aarons (hamstring) and defender Paul Dummett (knee) are back in training but will not be risked today. Moussa Sissoko is again missing, serving the final game of his two-match ban, while Saturday is the fifth match of seven that Papiss Cisse has to sit out through suspension. Massadio Haidara (knee), Cheick Tiote (knee) and Steven Taylor (Achilles) remain sidelined.

  1. I seriously hope Derby county get promoted.
That will throw a spanner into the fat mans plan
After 80 odd applications for the job, we will be left with Parver as the only option.
    Relegation is a certainty

  2. Listen we played ok for 20 minutes today, but after scoring we reverted to type, switched off and became bone idle lazy until it was too late.
Once again, no leaders on the pitch to kick *** and get a grip.

  3. I didn’t think it was possible to have a worse second half of a season than the last one was with 4 wins out the last 19 games. But now I’m sitting watching it unfold I realize it is possible if you have the right head coach in place. 😯

  4. BB, Aye the 60 odd applicants must of been utter ***** for Jabba to stick with JC and the only other option being Steve McLaren.
Also what was Remi Garde playing at when he kept telling fellow commentators on French tv that he couldn’t discuss the Toon vacancy 😕

      (Quote)

  5. BB, It’s the lack in concentration and the standing still and expecting a fellow team mate to clear/deal with it I can’t stand.

  7. Kim its a disgrace that we are getting sucked into this **** again.
I also hear that JC has offered to meet a fan outside to sort things, does he not realise that he shouldn’t be getting involved with stuff like that 😕

  8. Gashley @225: bloody hell, 38 years. And there is someone on here who calls you and me clueless. He also said the players were working hard for Carver 🙂 Talk about not seeing the wood for the trees. 7 fucking losses in a row and that man still defends Carver and even tries to prove a point about Pards. His ideas are beginning to take hold at Palace, just wait, the death spiral is beginning.

Kim yeah I thought he would have learnt from the last time, but it seems he hasn’t
Prem and Kim do the mackems not have a game in hand aswell ?

  11. I cant believe that JC has admitted that he asked a fan to meet after the game, but he says it was to tell the fan why he was doing what he was doing 😆

  12. Carver doing his best but are players couldn’t even catch a cold. They’re all totally useless.

Come come my little ranter. 😆

Twas’ you who wanted rid of Pards who left when we were in 8th place.

I warned you of the consequences. You wouldn’t listen though.

I dint think Pards is doing to badly do you? He’s took Palace from 3rd bottom to safety, well above us.

Regarding Carver. I don’t defend him. I’ve stated he hasn’t got a managerial record to compare against. His current and first stint is looking dreadful. You really should get your facts right. You get pulled up about it all the time. 😉

I stick to my point that you are Clueless. I only deal in facts 😉

  14. ffs it has NOTHING to do with Pardew leaving, but the fact the fat fool chose NOT to replace him with a quality replacement.
HIS decision alone, HIS gamble. Nothing to do with any fans.
At the end of the day the club will reap what it sows.
Relegation is a certainty either this year or next.
The amount now needed to be spent, just to get us to mid table is beyond our means.
    The club is sinking

  15. What really disappointed me was that I really thought that this game, after 4 years of continuous trying, our set piece to Willo at the far post was going to come off! 😥
If all we get out of our new coach is a fresh set piece, it will be a fuken revelation!

      (Quote)

  16. Troysta: I only rant because I fear the club is in trouble and you love to rewrite history. You defended Pards as an average manager with an average squad. Then one day you do a complete 180 and say he should be sacked if we lost to Leicester. You act like Carver was our only choice and have used the line “be careful what you wish for” so often you have almost worn it out. Carver was not our only choice and I said from day one that it would be a mistake. He has had incredibly bad luck and a not too friendly fixture list, but I am of the opinion that even without these factors he would have contrived to f it up. Now with his bizarre statements and actions he has proven that he belongs nowhere near the club. Not only has he picked up Pardew’s tactic of defending for the 1st 20 minutes but he seems to have acquired his line of BS. Who really thinks that he invited that fan over for tea and scones? He must think we all have short memories because he did the same thing inviting a fan to meet him at the training ground on the Monday after Southampton away. Then he has the audacity to say that Owen and Carragher don’t understand his situation because they have never managed. What has Carver ever done to suggest he has any clue about management? In fact, what this year has shown is that he doesn’t have the first clue.

      (Quote)

  17. Carver said:

“Yes, I am getting stick from the crowd and I can take all that. I’ll take that on the chin, I’ll explain to people why I do things, I don’t have a problem with that.”

What is this guy on? He offered to see a fan outside. Reports are that he called him a ******* C@nt which would have gotten him thrown out if he was a regular fan. He has demonstrated again that he cannot take it on the chin and that he is clueless.

Is it worth sacking him? Who could we get? We know Joe Kinnear would probably jump at the chance at the last 4 games but is he any better?

We have a saving grace possibly in that for the last 3 games we should have Cisse, de Jong, Sissoko and Aarons back. It would be a complete shake up but by the looks of things that is what we need.

I didn’t see the first half but I saw a report that he played Taylor as a defensive midfielder. Strange.

Also, I really thought 35 points would be enough to stay up but now I have a few doubts. A point or 2 should do it but is Carver even capable of that? I am not sure if I have ever seen anyone talk such a big game and deliver so little. Its a pity the games aren’t played on the training pitch as Carvs was saying how great it was this week and how some visitors were amazed at how great the sessions were 🙂 ******.

      (Quote)

  18. Stuart: You have always been more positive until recently, certainly more positive than me as I hated Pardew and hate Carver more if that is possible 🙂 Just wondering what you think our chances are? I still think we will scrape through, but will the fat **** then sack Carver? Even Fatty can see what harm Carver is doing. Every pundit comments on it, although if they haven’t managed then maybe they shouldn’t be allowed to 🙂

      (Quote)

  19. Oh and Troysta: Carver does have a managerial record – Toronto, Leeds, Sheffield and now us. What more do you need to know? I think his overall winning % was lower than 30% before us and is about 12 or 13% with us. I repeat, what more do you need to know or are you just being contrarian for the sake of it?

      (Quote)

  20. @Eric.

good to see you only dealing in facts

“You defended Pards as an average manager with an average squad. Then one day you do a complete 180 and say he should be sacked if we lost to Leicester” 😛

      (Quote)

  21. Carver is alleged to have repeatedly swore at irate fans, with one, Karen Choake, claiming to have heard, “Sit down you f——- c—”. 😆 😳

One fan, Allen O’Connell, even claimed that Carver pointed down the tunnel and repeatedly mouthed, “Outside, outside”, 😆 😳 in what the fan took to mean an offer to have a fight after the game.

Under pressure: John Carver has lost seven games in a row

Carver admitted he did tell a fan to come and see him after the game to “explain why I’m doing what I’m doing” but both Carver and the club refute any suggestion that this was aggressive.

“Yes, I am getting stick from the crowd and I can take all that,” Carver said.

“I’ll take that on the chin, I’ll explain to people why I do things – I don’t have a problem with that.

“If anybody wants to talk me about it, I will talk to them about it. But I won’t give up on it and I will fight to the end.”

If the claims are true it is the second time this season that Carver has been involved in a spat with the club’s own supporters as he verbally abused fans holding a poster calling for the sacking of Pardew earlier in the season.

  23. Psycho

You really shouldn’t try and bolster your posts with distorted facts. You suggest Carver has a managerial record to compare and name Toronto, Sheffield Utd & Leeds.

Yes Psychs, we all know the teams he has been manager of. That is why I said he hasn’t got a record to compare.

Caretaker for Leeds 5 games, Sheffield Utd 3 games and head coach under the manager Mo Johnson at Toronto.

Don’t try and distort facts Pyschs. They comeback and bite you. 😉

I don’t defend Carver and haven’t criticised him as it’s been very early days but his record now and performances are looking woeful.

It’s no surprise to me this has happened though. Carver was always a possibility, a good possibility should Pards leave which you demanded.

If you knew of his managerial record, which you claim is worthy of mention, were you not concerned he might take over from Pards?

I still wouldn’t rule out that he will be appointed if we stay up or get relegated. He seems to have Charnleys ear.

Regarding me wanting Pards sacked. Again facts twisted. I’ve always said Pards is an average premier league manager and could hold his own against most.

It doesn’t matter who is in charge, if the team look like they are going to be relegated and there’s only a handful of games left, it would be ludicrous not to consider gambling on a new manager to try and get a short term lift. That goes for any manager in that situation.

At that time, I blamed tge players amd squad and I suggested if we got beat in the next game then a new manager would need trying. We ne er lost that game and my thoughts were justified.

Don’t twist other people’s views Psychs. You are doing exactly the same as you did with Pards but now with Carver. For me, Carver is in charge of a horrific squad.

I was tge only one, sorry Kim may have been the same, who predicted a relegation battle at the end of the season. I predicted scraping survival.

It looks like I am right. Again 😉

I didn’t go to the game. I’ve sacked my season ticket. I can’t bear to play into Ashleys hands.

He’s taking the **** out of every fan who goes.

  25. Not a very spirited defense there Troysta, you are basically agreeing with me. Ed turned a few months ago, first on Pardew and now Carver. It is difficult to see how he wouldn’t given the appalling football this year. It was not just the results that made me hate Pards it was his style of anti-football and arrogance and this has been continued by Carver. In fact, Carver has gone one step further with his threats and the utter nonesense he spouts. As I have said before I think Ed saw the light when he took the “In Carr we Trust” t-shirt down.

The other thing with Ed’s is every single poster is completely fed up. I am positively giddy with optimism in comparison 🙂

      (Quote)

  26. Pyschs

Absolutely brilliant. I totally disagree with your previous posts amd then you comeback on and say I basically agree with you. 😀 brilliant.

No I don’t. I totally disagree with you.

Regarding Eds blog, hitman is suggesting that I’m trolling on there, I think, his post is not clear.

I never visit Eds blog so I don’t know what he’s referring to.

      (Quote)

  27. You know Carver was assistant manager and is now sometimes referred to as head coach here. Was that a demotion? He refers to himself often as interim manager and even says he is permanent manager until told otherwise sometimes. He is in charge of the football so he is manager in my book. Charnley is bringing him into the personnel discussions and many clubs have a transfer committee now – Liverpool and Man City for example. Is Brendan not the manager? Saying Carver was not manager at Toronto is splitting hairs and semantics at best or a complete distortion if you want my view which I am sure you don’t.

Carver doesn’t have a managerial record and needed time for us to assess his (in)capabilities. That’s about the funniest thing I have ever seen you say 🙂

      (Quote)

  28. Psychs

You suggest Carver has a managerial record to compare
    – I don’t, based on his previous stints. 3 games as caretaker at Sheffield Utd, 5 games as caretaker at Leeds and Mo Johnson was manager at Toronto and Carver his coach. Even if Carver had been full time manager of Toronto, it’s not a record to compare to judging a premier league manager.

Regarding me wanting Pardew sacked which you suggested and did a full 180. I didn’t. I justified his managerial position, all explained above.

Regarding my prediction that we would finish in a relegation scrap, which you never foresaw, again we differ.

Go back again and point out why you think I basically agree with you.

Stick to those points amd don’t go off on a tangent like you normally do.

      (Quote)

  29. @Troy. How can you justify your faith in Pards by one game? So if Leicester had of beat us you wanted him out, but they didnt so you want him to stay?

you obviously didnt hold much hope for him by giving him his last chance v Leicester @ home. lucky we weren’t playing Sunderland or any of the top 6 😆

      (Quote)

  30. Troysta complaining about someone going off on a tangent 🙂 That is the second funniest thing I have seen him say.

  31. I reckon we can get a draw v Leicester 😯
and will beat Wbrom, esp with Cisse back

    team for Leicester
    Krul,

    Abeid, Colback Sissoko, ,
    Cabella, De Jong,
    Perez.

Not sure if he’s any better than Darlow?

  33. Thought so Eric. You won’t stick the points. 😉

Predictable as the relegation battle I predicted. 😉

      (Quote)

  34. Brett

There’s no other way of explaining it as I’ve done many times. Even above. I’ve stated I didn’t blame Pards for the predicament we found ouse lives in at that time.

As I’ve stated above, it didn’t matter who the manager was, with commonsense of cause, when you have an average league manager whose squad is struggling because of the quality, then drastic action has to be taken if relegation is on the cards and only a handful of games left. You do that to hopefully get a honeymoon period from the new manager.

That’s not blaming Pardew or sacking him because I blamed him. Fortunately, I didn’t think that time had come unlike you and others amd I suggested he had one more game in him.

Good job the owner did as well. He got it right and the following season had us in 8th. You still wanted him gone so it shows your judgement is very poor. 😉

      (Quote)

  35. Gash – according to Carver yesterday Dummett should be back next week as well.

Do you think Cabella is bringing enough to the team mate?. I wouldn’t mind seeing him dropped and put Armstrong or Riviere up front with Perez instead.

      (Quote)

  39. @Sharpy

I would be great if Dummett was back but i reckon its too soon

Cabella was **** yesterday but had a hand in our goal. He has more creativity then Rivi or Armstrong OR

    Janmaat, Coloccini (c), Williamson, Anita,
    Abeid, Colback Sissoko, Jonas
    De Jong, Perez.

      (Quote)

  40. Gash – I thought that about Dummett coz he’s been out a while. As much as I rate the kid, I’m not sure how much difference he’d have made to our defence yesterday anyway 🙄
Re Cabella, maybe you’re right. He’s our only creative player so has a lot of expectation on him. De Jong coming in may help him out. He’s just so light weight, but then there are plenty of players in the league that are and manage.

      (Quote)

  41. Looking at the teams in the CCC at the moment in the top six if toon go down there is no way on gods earth they would come back up with the players we have and the odd decent players we have will leave we will be stuck down there for a few years so the players will have to get stuck in now if they care enough that is which I doubt sad so sad thanks jabba

      (Quote)

  42. Using the C-word seems to make people part of the furniture at NUFC judging by Ashley’s faith in Pardew & Kinear

Johns probably strengthened his position yesterday

      (Quote)

  43. CC – it’s just nice to know that Carver has shown some emotion – though it’s massively misdirected.
Maybe that’s why he wasn’t shouting at his players – he was too busy offering the fans out to see Swansea walk the 2nd & 3rd goal in!!.

He yet again saying the players give everything – if that’s their everything for Swanseas 3rd we should already be relegated by now.

      (Quote)

  44. So there’s five teams in it. I reckon they’d all swop places with us especially with the fixtures coming. We might do it with De Jong, Aarons, Dummett, Sissoko and Cisse back. 2 points?

Lascelles is still listed in our squad. He could play the last 3 games.

This is all papering over the cracks of a truly dreadful team with 6 on the field yesterday who just aren’t PL quality. I know we’ve all been saying it all season but yesterday it was so apparent all over the pitch. In Carr we trust???

      (Quote)

  45. Georgio, it will take a massive investment in the summer just to stand still mate… and the majority of fans were complaining about a top 10 finish showing a lack of ambition a few months back !!

Some punters just like to be confrontational and wind up other bloggers…yet contribute little when it comes to the games…. strange really, maybe the pressure of the relegation battle is getting to them ? When the going gets tough, the tough start the wind -ups :-). When JC is sitting there in the trenches getting bombarded by disgruntled season ticket holders he can proudly turn round to his experienced back room staff and see ….everybody scarpering, with a couple of the first team subs leading the charge … !…no wonder he has turned to Pardew like expletives 😆 😆 😆

  47. His bollocks about the players efforts were shot to pieces by Shearer last night
