WE’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER CHEQUE, MIKE!

Mike-Ashley-and-Lee-CharnleyFirst off I have to say Saturday’s result wasn’t unexpected, though I had hoped we’d scrape a draw. We started brightly enough with Anita putting some tidy runs and crosses into the box and Rivi’s run and assist for Perez’s goal was sublime, though he faded badly as usual.
As we have seen too often this season when we concede we fall apart, heads drop and the pace drops to a jog then a stroll. It was refreshing in that first half to see us closing down the oposition, taking the game to them and giving them no time. Alas, we soon slipped into our old routine in the second half along with our old friend lack of concentration.
I must mention Siem De Jongs effort second half, to score after not long coming on when the game was lost was good to see and shows his commitment to the cause. This brings me to the point of this article. We simply don’t have enough players pulling their weight at the moment. Now whether this is lack of talent or lack of desire and care for the club is open to question, one thing is for sure though and that is they have no excuse.
No excuse not to get stuck in, no excuse not to fight and scrap to the 90th and beyond and no excuse to simply not try. I watched that match and actually felt sympathy for John Carver, he must be pulling his hair out at what he’s watching. The defending was dire, how the players can justify just standing and waiting for a team mate to deal with it is beyond me, what happened to collective responsibility? God above, you wouldn’t want that lot alongside you in the trenches would you? Carver has his detractors and rightly so, to not have attempted to try and change the set piece and corner routine by now is remiss and borderline negligent but he obviously has his reasons, though I can’t for the life of me fathom what they are. Ex pro’s say he’s an excellent coach, I’m not so sure I go along with that, but I’m sure he’s not as poor as the 7 straight losses show. I think he’s been hamstrung by a shocking injury list, the loss of our very foolish striker Cisse for 6 games and what would seem a game changer in De Jong and possibly young Aarrons.
Plus a very greedy and short sighted owner who likes to gamble with the clubs status.
With all that said, there are players in this team who simply do not fight enough and also aren’t good enough, it’s like watching our relegation run in all over again. Too many want away and don’t care enough for the club and it shows big time.
We will do well to avoid relegation this season make no mistake, and it will likely be because the teams below us have worse run in’s than us and play one another. We probably need a couple more points to be sure but where will we get them?
When this season ends whether we go down or not, there has to be a mass clear out of the dross and can’t be bothered’s. Some quality, not afraid to get stuck in lads need to be brought in. We need a good coach too as I fear John Carver is struggling.
Now all of this will cost a pretty penny and I know the club has said they intend to spend in the summer. The figures being bandied about though aren’t enough in my opinion. It’s going to take a fair wedge of cash to build a team to truly compete. Even at a mid table level, because we have slipped so far behind now through gross mismanagement.
In short, forget the figure you set mike, we’re gonna need a bigger cheque! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTRbQMLiJLY

So can I. He hates criticism.;-) So why come onto the same blog where he knows I am. 😉

He knows I would clear off if he came back. That says it all about his motives.

  2. I don’t like to see the verbal abuse Carver is getting at the games. Of course he’s put himself in the firing line by taking the job but he’s doing his best and desperately wants the best for the club.

He shouldnt be subject to hatred that some show.

  3. Troy Carver wouldn’t complain about all the love he would get from the crowd if he were getting results! You have to take the good with the bad.. Still, the real nasty verbal language is not good tho…

      (Quote)

  4. Troy – with those results and especially performances it’s no surprise. Very unforgiving place is football grounds. Do you think we’ll stay up? I think we’ll get bullied out of it tomorrow especially if he plays the useless Gouffran and I can’t run any more Raylor. Riviere hatrick? Woo hoo hoo.

  5. Troy: Carver does spout ***** and points the finger of blame at everyone but himself. He always says he can take what is dished out and then is the first to complain. He is a delusional hypocrite. His story about having great training sessions and then next out of his mouth after the game is that he cannot kick or head the ball for his players. No mention of the same old, same old Williamson free kick and the fact he has had 4 years to coach Willo and Colo into being able to defend a corner and 16 games where he could make his own tweaks if he didn’t agree with Pards. He is a fucking moaner and excuse maker. Then he pretends he can take it on the chin and to “bring it on”.

  8. We still should make it though. C’mon, 2 teams in the bottom 4 with one (QPR) probably relegated when we play them. The other two games are at home to teams in the bottom half with nothing to play for. Even Carver can’t contrive to **** this up but I also said before it would be impossible for him to have us in this situation and that it would be impossible for us to go down. The bookies had us at 150-1 to go down at that point, now we are 18-1.

Even if we win the next 4, I would not give Carver the job permanently, however there is not much chance of that 🙂

Lastly, Carver said today he would need the tools and a full pre-season to be judged properly. What, he wasn’t there last pre-season and by the end of this season he will have had 21 games in full charge. That’s not enough? He has proven himself to be an incompetent, blustering fool and I for one have seen enough. Over to you Troysta, as you seem to be the only one on any of the boards – here, Ed’s, NUFC.com, The Chronicle – that needs to see more to make up his mind.

      (Quote)

  9. Troy All I can say is Ashley must be very easy to please result wise. If Carver gets the job permanently it will be catastrophic and more cheap signing’s that lack talent.

Really ? Do the majority of them all pass the buck the way Pardew and Carver did and do ? hhmmmmm 🙄

  11. The only reason that Man United would loan us anyone would be to get there wages off the balance sheet…ala Toon – Rangers…
Any loanee would go backwards if he turned up at the toon based on the last years performance…so we will end up with new signings AND loanees giving the toon a wide berth.

Earlier it was difficult to attract players to Newcastle because of the geographical issue…now the reasons are somewhat different… 😉 …

  12. Look at Southampton. They got a good manager, good scouts, good replacements when someone gets sold for a profit, good academy. They have been in the PL less time than us.

We have a bad owner, bad manager, bad scouts and a bad academy!

  13. Stem@542, in my days Saaafhampton were a seasoned 1 Division side (old EPL) with a host of great players like Le Tissier, Mike Channon etc. Then they had a longer period in the doldrums, I believe they were even in the old third division one time.
Then a gazillionaire owner moved in and they are now probably back where they rightly belong, though traditionally being in the top 10 they are hitting above there weight imo. I agree with your main point it’s amazing what you can do if you have an interested owner who gets the club pulling in the right direction ! Our club is riddled with mediocracy, a symbol for the majority of the Ashley era…despite the fact that he now has 100 fold the money coming in compared to 10 years ago…

A zombie club on the road to nowhere sadly…

The away fans have been magnificent as usual this season, and I wonder how they will react to the protest on 34 mins.
Got a sneaky feeling we will nick the 3 points that will lift the air of despondency surrounding the club.
Then we have the summer to look forwards to and the major overhaul of the squad. Could be the mother of all transfer windows, can’t wait.

    –Sissoko—————Ayoze–

Sammy Cabella and Jonas to close this game. Cant complain if Willo starts and Dummett goes Lb. We should win this game.

I saw this article which refers to the Spanish fella in particular. I think it sums how I feel about us at the moment really well. I’m not against the Spanish fella at all, don’t know enough about him really, but I think we need someone who can bring some stability to us and hopefully sort out our defence.

  36. Dave – me neither mate. I think the journos have just looked at other clubs who operate on a low budget as well – found Rayo and that Paco has done ok there, so have nominated him as a candidate themselves.

  37. Sharpy – Doesn’t the fact you would be happy with McClaren say everything about the state of the club?

  38. Syrupy

I’m the same, My personal pick would have been Garde who really fitted the bill

However I’d be quietly confident McClaren would surprise a few doubters. I’ve enjoyed watching Derby under him. He’s dropped the cagey wing back system he used with Boro (and tried with England’s prima donnas) and has them playing an attacking 4-3-3 which would suit us IMO

  39. I would like to echo Geordietwos comments regarding Blackley.

Do the decent thing Troy/Big Dave and let Blackley come home. He’s a changed man I swear. He never ever argues with anybody, and he never ever says you couldn’t make it up. He’s probably the most popular bloke on Ed’s blog to be honest. We’d all be really sorry to lose such a fine poster, but his heart is here so there’s nowt we can do.

I sincerely hope you grant this request
    Regards

    Xx

  40. Stu – I rate McClaren as highly as anyone else that has been mentioned (realistic options – not the likes of Klopp or Benitez).

CC – I would be worried about Gardes commitment if things didn’t go his way. McClaren has done great at Derby with no money to spend at all. He’s brought the right loan players in and could maybe have done better this season if not for injuries to crucial players.

      (Quote)

  41. Belfast I have seen how popular he is on Eds so it wouldn’t be fair on the .com bloggers to do that on them 😉
As for his favourite saying I see he is still trying to copy his brother 😆

  42. Damm you couldn’t make it up!

Ah well it was worth a try haha
I don’t actually mind him to be honest.

I reckon it would be a very popular transfer with the rest of the blog masses though.

      (Quote)

  43. Belfast good try mate, it might be popular with some on here but the masses on .com would be gutted and they have been through enough heart ache this season with the club, so I couldnt do that on them.

  44. Tds wasn’t that bad actually lol

His comments about us not being intelligent enough for him or something like that was a bit of a low blow though Haha

I reckon he still posts on there but under a different name. 😉

      (Quote)

  45. Actually Sharpy – I think Derby have about the highest wage bill in their league but that wasn’t really my point. My point is the fact your saying the realistic options and he’s in that category. It’s just sad that he’s as good as it gets from realistic options. I don’t mind him as it goes but he certainly wouldn’t be my first choice, but when you only pay peanuts…

Why don’t you invite him round to your house for a quiet beer. If he’s changed since the last time I went round, he shouldn’t be writing a 25 page letter to his brother explaining why he will never speak to him again because of the blog issues we had. YCMIU 😆

I’m still laughing at a grown man doing that. 😛

  48. This is my team:

    —————Krul————
    -Janmaat-Colo-Dummett-Jonas-

    ————–Sissoko————-
    —-Sammy————Ayoze—
    ————–Riviere————-

      (Quote)

  49. I would take McClaren, ask him to improve the defense, the set pieces on both ends, to play us in 433 or 442. Id bring him 2 new Cb: Van Dijk and Nantes’s Djilobodji, a DM: Nzonzi or Capoue or similar type of DM, why not a DM from Liga? A versatile wide player in James Tavernier back from Wigan, a deadly left footed versatile midfielder Rotterham’s Ben Pringle for free. Id try to sign Bamford or at least on loan and Carroll back. So 6 new players plus one loan with Lascelles Darlow, Id bring Vuckic back Asap and count on Kemen and Liam Smith

      (Quote)

  50. For new DM, my dream would be Carrick or Nzonzi or Huddlestone more reallisticly, maybe It’d be controversial but Id take Cattermole especially if if they go down, McClaren knows him well from Boro, and we need leadership if not Im fine with Abeid and Kemen as backup. And I’ll be fine with that team next season:

    —————-Darlow————
    -Janmaat-VanDijk-Djilo-Dummett-
    ————–Cattermole———-
    ———deJong—–Colback——
    —-Aarons—————Ayoze—
    ————–Bamford————

Subs: Gk, Lascelles, Tavernier, Abeid, Pringle, Vuckic, Carroll.
3rd goal, Saylor, Sterry, Ghillesphie, Kemen, Smith, Sammy, Obertan, Riviere

Playerd not mentionned are those leaving this summer even if Id keep Armstrong on loan. With good a choice and real competion for places we can finish solid 8th-10 place with hopefully extended cup runs

I’ve never been on Ed’s blog for about a year and because of what G2 said earlier, regarding B&B wanting to return, I had a browse of the blog. He’s nicked my saying, “You couldn’t make it up” YCMIU.

So seeing as I am renowned for making Tory Boy choke on his cornflakes with my outlandish comments, here are my positive thoughts of the day
3 wins and a draw over the next 4 matches 😛
That will see us finish the season in 12th – not too shabby after another dreadful season.
That should be satisfactory enough to get Carver the job permanently.
    Woo Hoo Hoo

  54. And the comedy quote of the day comes from the legendary bullshitter himself Percy Parsnip :-
Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew hopes his side can keep the Premier League title race going by beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. “We need to respond following our recent defeats, for ourselves and to keep the title race interesting.”
“We’ve got to try to produce a performance that doesn’t get carried away in the emotion of the day.”
“If there is a team that I know well, it’d be Chelsea. I studied there,” he said. “They will dominate possession and the two thirds of the pitch that we have to defend, but we carry a fret.”
    😆
The Blues will win the title with a win.
