Game On! Leicester Vs Newcastle United

Leicester_City_v_Newcastle_United_Match_Preview_FTWelcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the highs and lows as we travel to the King Power Stadium for today’s Premier league game (12.45 kick-off), to face the in-form Leicester City in what head coach John Carver has dubbed “the biggest game of the weekend.” Leicester have won four of their last five games only failing to the the Premier League Champions elect Chelsea on Wednesday night after taking the lead at the King Power Stadium and having a go at them but eventually suffering a 3-1 defeat.
John Carver and first team coach Steve Stone were in the stands for that game, watching Leicester in action, and were impressed by what they saw.
“If I’m perfectly honest out of the next four games, I think this is going to be one of the toughest,” said Carver.
“Me and Steve Stone travelled down to watch them against Chelsea and the atmosphere was incredible, so we’ll have to deal with that.
“Leicester were very well organised, very strong and a big physical side but they did run out of steam a little bit.
“We have to make sure we stay in the game. They’re very tight and they work extremely hard. They’ll put us under pressure and not give us a minute on the ball.
“But because of their work rate they tire, and we must use that to our advantage.”
Following their recent haul of 12 points, Leicester have climbed out of the relegation zone and currently sit just three points behind the Magpies going into Saturday’s fixture.
“Nigel (Pearson) has done a remarkable job,” Carver added, about his opposite number.
“Four weeks ago his team weren’t even in the hunt to stay in this league but he has turned that around.
“This is certainly the biggest game of the weekend – it’s huge for both sides for different reasons. The important thing is we need to get a result because we all know what run we are in at the moment and that needs to end.”
I just hope we stop the rot and stop breaking records.

  1. Aye Munich mate. The only thing that might save us is the run-in for QPR and Sunderland. Hull will have a battle as well. Burnley is already done I would think.

  2. So Carver uses Willo as a scape goat … He really is a toon fan then isn’t he.

  3. Strong words post match from Newcastle’s John Carver, who suggests he believes Mike Williamson deliberately got himself sent off today.

  4. The same thing happened the last time we got relegated. We were poor for years, and we just kept getting away with it due amongst other things the fact that there were worse clubs around us… then our luck ran out.

Same during the Pardew era, we flirted seriously with relegation, relying on Cisse and Remy’s goals while sticking our heads in the sand and congratulating ourselves with a massive profit…whilst ignoring the sporting side of things..

We’ve been poor for a long time now… and the club will get all that it deserves…

  5. Well said Munich mate @305. Anybody who attends the next home game is completely mad.

  6. If I was schteve I would tell Ashley in no un certain words, that he wants his own coaches and to get rid of carver stone Beardsley the lot.
If not then no deal simples
start off as you mean to go on.

  7. Has anyone else noticed an absolutely MASSIVE move away from the Pardew era where access to the manager is concerned. ?

When Pardew was in charge we had a toon minnion sensoring each and every Pardew interview and stepping in at every chance. We had the local press banned….

Then Super Al jumped ship and JC took over…..

and Carver really has carte blance to say WHATEVER he wants….whenever he wants…without a sensor in sight…

    Rather bizarre isn’t it ?

      (Quote)

  8. Sounds like Carver has just thrown all the players under the bus in his press conference. Saying what we’re all thinking but I’m not sure in his position he should be saying it. Bad move for me. He needs replacing now imo.

  9. Newcastle United boss John Carver: “On a scale of one to 10, it’s a minus 10. I can’t accept it. I wish the players had as much determination and fight as I had. We can talk about systems and players but if we’re not willing to compete, get your head onto the ball and risk getting an injury, you won’t get anywhere.

“The referee made the right decisions. I spoke to Mike Williamson at half-time and had a few choice words. I thought he’d done that [got sent off] on purpose – it looks like he did. The ball was off the pitch – he had no need to make the challenge. He will miss two games now, is it an easy way out? I got Tim Krul to speak to Daryl Janmaat, I told him to stay calm and he didn’t. The game had gone away from us. We can’t keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

“We can’t just keep saying next week will do – it has to happen now. Losing two players doesn’t help. The next 24 hours is thinking time – we have to see who is available. We need to find a solution. I can talk all day and make excuses but I have no excuses today.

“It was a very animated dressing room at half time and even more so at full-time. I’ve asked everyone to have a think and we’ll have an open discussion on Monday – it’ll be interesting. “

  10. So Carved has no intention of walking away then. He has no class. Our squad is aweful. No creativity, no flair, no leaders. Premiership or Championship makes no odds. Unless there is massive investment and a complete change of coaching personnel, then we will be going absolutely nowhere but backwards for some time yet.

      (Quote)

  11. The only difference getting relegated will make to me is that I would have to wait an extra hour to watch the highlights on BBC 1 on Saturday nights.

  12. Hs Carver really accused a player of gettig himself sent off deliberately? My god If true that alone should get him sacked. If that is what he comes out with in the media then god knows what he says on the training pitch . Would explain why the players don’t give a flying **** anymore .

      (Quote)

  13. Dave – so today was down to Willo?. Carver really believes that Willo lacks that much integrity that he would deliberately get himself sent off?

  14. Mike Williamson: John Carver says defender sent off ‘on purpose’

Newcastle United manager John Carver thinks his defender Mike Williamson was sent off on purpose as an “easy way out” in their 3-0 defeat by Leicester.

The centre-back was shown a second yellow for barging Jamie Vardy when the pair were off the pitch, while Daryl Janmaat was also sent off later on.

“I thought he’d done that on purpose – it looks like he did,” Carver told BBC.

“The ball was off the pitch – he had no need to make the challenge. He will miss two games. Is it an easy way out?”

Carver had not calmed down by the time of the post-match news

Williamson sent off on purpose – Carver

“I thought he meant it. When the ball went on to that left-hand side my first reaction was don’t do it. He did it. Vardy was off the pitch, Willo was off the pitch. There was no need to do it and I’m not accepting that.

“I told him that to his face. I don’t want to go into his reaction.”

Of his side’s other red card, Carver said: “I got ‘keeper Tim Krul to speak to Daryl Janmaat, I told him to stay calm and he didn’t. The game had gone away from us. We can’t keep shooting ourselves in the foot.”

The Magpies have lost eight consecutive Premier League games under Carver, who is in charge until the end of the season.

Newcastle conceded a Leonardo Ulloa goal after 38 seconds and a Wes Morgan strike in the 17th minute. Ulloa sealed the game after the break from a penalty.

Carver was furious with his side and in honest post-match interview said:

“On a scale of one to 10, it is a minus 10.”
“I asked if everyone understood their roles and responsibilities. I can’t go and mark men on the pitch myself.”
“If we’re not willing to compete, get your head onto the ball and risk getting an injury, you won’t get anywhere.”
“We’ll have an open discussion on Monday – it’ll be interesting.”
“There might have been players who didn’t try – maybe they don’t think they’ll get a new contract or be here next year. But they’re getting paid and should try.”

  15. IMHO toon will never get out of CCC for a few years if they can manage to stay in it while jabba owns the club

  16. I( really fail to see where we’ll get another point this season with this shower of ****. absolutely disgusted with everything regarding Newcastle.

I really hope someone punches the lights out of Fatty.

  17. One of the lads who met up with JC yesterday tweeted saying that JC was slagging Willo off to him as well.
For someone who worked so closely with Sir Bobby, he learned **** all about man management – or how to select an 11 that will win a match for that matter.

      (Quote)

  18. Stuart – well if he calls in his loan, and we have no money left to buy new players with, then what ?

      (Quote)

  19. at least Obertan and Goof will be chomping at the bit v WBrom. they must be gutted to lose out 😯

      (Quote)

  20. Well how can he call his loan in if we can’t pay it? If we go into administration Ashley wouldn’t get his money back. He would only get some of it.

      (Quote)

  21. Stu – good, hopefully if the results go against us today it may actually spur the board on to take action before the end of the season. To sit by and watch this happen is fucking criminal!!.
Carver reckons he’s supported, but I think he’s been hung out to dry by the board & Ashley.

      (Quote)

  22. actually it looks like we is in a spot of bother now
    well played Ashley 😳

      (Quote)

  23. ha Gerard misses a penalty

everything is going against us now

      (Quote)

  24. we can pay it stu.
Money in the bank plus this seasons tv money
that will take care of most of it.
That leaves no money to pay the players wages etc
    officially skint.
ok I don’t know anything, keep your hair on.

      (Quote)

  25. We shouldn’t forget that it’s still in our own hands. However, we ain’t going to win another game unless we change coach. The players have played their hand and it’s clear they don’t want to play for Carver so if they chose McClaren to be their next coach they should get him tomorrow morning as we could get a new coach bounce and it would be a good game to start at home against WBA. If they don’t make any changes then I just truly believe the regime are doing it on purpose.

      (Quote)

  26. BB – Ok, so he does that and gets his loan back but what about the £133m he spent on buying the club. The club would be insolvent and worth nothing so he loses.

      (Quote)

  27. we need a change v WBrom. Bring Sammy or Cabella in, drop Jonas for Abeid

    Krul

    Raylor Collo Dummett Anita

    DeJong Perez

  28. I reckon McLaren is on his way in as we speak because there is no way that JC would batter the players like that in public and get away with it…
I love the new more communicative NUFC after the cloak and dagger Pardew period 😆 😆

Zombie club NOT on the road to nowhere…on the road to the Championship… see what your billions do for you now Ashley you chump…

  29. We are going to have to win the last game of the season to stay up. Pressure that like!

  30. Leicester 3-0 Newcastle: Mike Williamson sent off on purpose – Carver
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/32565776

Carvers interview. Basically what he’s saying is that the players aren’t listening to him. If that’s not enough to convince him & Ashley that he’s not the right man for the job, I really don’t know what is?!

      (Quote)

  31. Stuart – he sells off the ground and the training ground and walks away

      (Quote)

  32. Sharpy I never said its all down to Willo ❓ but willo IMO has to carry most of the blame, he is normally at fault because he simply isnt good enough. As for JC coming out and saying what he did about him is maybe down to the fact that he has probably been trying to protect him from a lot of deserved blame and abuse as he has cost us too many times, and maybe today JC has just seen how Willo has thanked him for sticking by him. I along with others said after his 2nd yellow that he knew what he was doing.

  33. Panty liner makes a great save to deny a saints equaliser
    and its all over

      (Quote)

  34. southampton came really close there. never mind. we still need to beat West Brom and see if Sunderland can beat either Everton or Leicester. Its still in our hands, which is the worst part..

      (Quote)

  35. ok stuart so he would be out of pocket then, but would we still have a football club ?

      (Quote)

  36. Only the point that we need to change now. And you are right. It is a first for you.

      (Quote)

  37. Well if he out the club into administration the administrators would be tasked with finding a buyer and I would guarantee you they would find one.

      (Quote)

  38. Stuart – is it totally beyond the realms of possibility then ?
Because imo its the sort of **** the fat bastad would come up with.

      (Quote)

  39. oh so if the administrators sold the club, he would still get his money back then ?
But the new buyers would have a points deduction to contend with and a mammoth wage bill too.
It was just a random thought really

      (Quote)

  40. BB – If we went bust it would hurt Ashley financially. Not won’t happen.

But we now need a win from our last 3 games. Before today a point might have done it but I fancy Sunderland to beat Leicester and Hull to beat Burnley so that puts Hull on 37 and puts Sunderland on 36. If we can’t get 3 points against WBA and West Ham and home and QPR away we deserve to down. Although I would argue the regime deserve to be in charge of a Championship club already.

It’s just a mess really and only way to give us a chance is a new manager and not a short term fix. Just get the guy they want for the long term and get him now!

      (Quote)

  41. Dave – yet Carver didn’t have the bottle to say the same about Janmaat?.
Willo is poor, but if Carver thought that about the bloke why play him?. I think it’s a disgusting think for a manager to say about his player personally & he had time to consider what he was saying. As poor as Willo is, hes a professional and if he wanted to ‘take the easy way out’ he could have faked an injury or got himself sent off any game. Yes it was a stupid tackle and worthy of a red card, but to suggest that he was thinking ‘right I’ll get sent off & miss the rest of the season’ is just a shocking thing to suggest.
As for today, I would suggest leaving all of our creative, offensive players on the bench & playing Raylor and Jonas was hardly setting out to win the game like.

  42. stuart, i’m passed caring mate. I hope we go down and get rid of Ashley, otherwise it will just take another 12 months. ‘Coz this team is going down next season if it doesn’t this. Nothing to look forward to under Ashley whatsoever.

      (Quote)

  43. thats something to look forward to.. SM 😯 I’d honestly rather go down then employ SM

Derby County conceded 23 goals in their final 13 Championship matches, in which their only wins came against relegated sides Wigan Athletic and Blackpool. The Rams earned just 12 points out of a possible 39 since beating Charlton Athletic in February. 🙄

      (Quote)

  44. The damage is well and truly done now. The squad is destroyed. No amount of lying will get Ashley out of this. Even if we stay up there is no way Ashley can repair the damage done to the supporters and the club. He won’t spend enough to even begin the process of rebuilding the side and he wants a head coach who will be a flunky and a blame taker for him. Your time is up Ashley, even if you don’t know it yet.

      (Quote)

  45. Ashley has made his final big mistake now. He didn’t strengthen the side in January and he didn’t hire a proper manager. A waste of time supporting the club by going to matches until Ashley is gone.

      (Quote)

  46. Where are the Ashley apologists? It would be interesting to hear from them right about now. 😆 And what about some words of wisdom from Charnley in our time of need?

      (Quote)

  47. An empty ground will have an impact on Ashley. Sheer humiliation is good for a man? like him. It’s an insult to men everywhere to call him a man actually. He’s got a yellow streak about a mile wide down his back. Anybody who comes in close contact is well advised to take a shower immediately.

      (Quote)

  48. Was there really anti Brendan Rodgers banners displayed today? 😯
I hope the bin dippers get slaughtered as we once were for being stupid & greedy!!.

  49. Hull City were my get out of jail card… I really did think that they were dead and buried. I knew that Leicester had fight in them, but Hull ?
…sure enough they come out fighting ! They have a really difficult run-in, but they really are back in it…

      (Quote)

I live in Hull now mate. I thought they would win last weekend but was was surprised when they won at Anfield. I don’t care now tbh, hope Ashley gets relegated. Carver is the scapegoat but hasn’t covered himself in glory either. The players don’t look bothered.
