An open letter to our players

John and liamTime for the players to man up and remember what real sacrifice is. An open letter to our players.
So today it’s confirmed John Carver remains your coach, like it or not that is your reality, as it is ours. Whether you like him or not, his love for our club cannot be denied but fans are questioning whether your commitment is as strong. Too many of you surrendered over the last few games and let the club you represent and the fans and city down. It matters not if you dislike your boss or his methods, quite simply you are paid well to perform for 90 plus minutes, it’s not much to ask. Doubtless many of you fancy a transfer to a ‘ bigger’ club some day in the future, maybe it’s even been promised? Well you best ask yourselves this. Have I shown I have what it takes?, do I possess team spirit?, am I a team player? have I given my all? If you can’t say yes to all of that, then take a long hard look in the mirror and think about two lads that really did have passion and gave their all for the club. All season we have been remembering Liam Sweeney and John Alder at the 17th minute of every game, these lads lived and died for the club. They chose to travel thousands of miles every season to follow the club and support players like you. This pre-season they paid the ultimate price when the plane they took to go watch you play was shot down on route. How dreadfully sad it will be if a season that started so incredibly traumatically ends in relegation for want of a bit of fight and endeavour. Put simply, if you cannot give your all and fight for the fifty odd thousand fans that turn up at St James Park then do it for Liam and John out of respect for all the support they gave to you.

Yours Kimtoon

  1. We could be in the bottom 3 on Saturday night and the club have announced they are sticking with the manager until the end of the season.
Do they go back on their word? Making a mockery of what they said or do they stick with him and making a mockery of logic. :-/

  2. so you were happy just to tick along under the mostly inept gobshite, because there was a danger it could only get worse.
Is it a crime to HOPE for better
Is it a crime to PUSH the owner to change
Is it better to just sit on your **** and do nowt.
Now THAT’S your battered wife syndrome.
I told you, if he appoints worse, then the fans should make it clear.
Hound them out, everyone of them, and keep doing so until the fat **** gets the message once and for all.
WE DONT DEMAND A TEAM THAT WINS BUT WE DO DEMAND A CLUB THAT TRIES
Tries to be the best we can,
Until the owner gets that message into his thick fat skull the turmoil should go on and on.
He should regret the day he ever met sir John and struck a deal with him.
He needs to realise, if the ambition is just top 10, he still needs to invest in a good manager and good players and just fucking KEEP HOLD of them for a while. You cannot keep building a new team every season, and hope to remain mid table.
    Stupid clueless money grabbing idiot.

  3. Nobody ‘believed’ he would appoint better, it was always a good bet he would go for the same old cheap option.
But this is the only way an arrogant fool can learn any lessons, the hard way.
Normal logic doesn’t apply with Ashley, he always thinks he knows better.
But in football, he has shown he knows NOTHING.
He is in danger of pissing his investment away,
    What a clown

  4. you are spot on @ 73
but you forgot to add, a failed out of work manager, a knacker of a scout and a hopeless out of date bunch of coaches.
The list goes on and on and on.
It just beggars belief that he sells out to 50k + ‘fans’ every other week.
he must have been laughing his little **** off.

  5. Betsy.

You now state “Nobody believed” he would appoint a better manager.
WIHIAN 😯 (Well I’ve Heard It All Now) 😯

You claimed he was out of his depth as a premier league manager. So you were expecting another appointment out of his depth. Well you certainly got what you wanted. 🙄

And now you cry on about it. Dear me. 🙄

The irony of it all. : 🙄

  6. I’m loving the fact that he is shitting his pants right now.
No players want to come here and the ones we have want out
No coaches want to come here and the ones we have are a failure
His once oh so loyal fanbase is drifting away
even the good old tea lady spits in his cuppa
” oh woe is me mobody loves me”
even his own mam and dad don’t like him after he shat all over them
    ha ha ha ha ha
    DUMB ***

  7. No I’m not crying. I’m loving it.

I said at the time, it was his choice, not mine.
If he had appointed the right man after percy bailed on him, we wouldn’t be in this mess right now.
Or do you disagree with that too ❓

  8. @73 & 79 – the drunken 2nd hand car dealer was left off that list too – on more than one occasion. I have to be honest & say I thought he was on his way back yesterday!!.

Kim – excellent article. It would be a disgrace if we got relegated the season we lost 2 of our loyalist supporters. Maybe Carver should consider getting their family members in to speak to the players & remind them just how much it means.

  9. SJP is a morgue it has been for years
Appointing the right manager when the chance arose would have got the place buzzing again, of that I have no doubt.
We are clamouring to get behind a good team with a good manager.
The sound of 50k+ fans inside SJP is unbelievable when it gets going.
We back our Lads through thick and thin when we are all pulling in the same direction.
ffs he could even put the ST prices up and we would still fill the ground.
We used to have a 12k waiting list for seats.
I don’t see how any of this is the fans fault, none of it.
But you just love to point the finger don’t you.
well you are pointing it at the wrong people.

  10. Pardew was a coward
he now says he told the owner we would be in this mess before xmas and that the players weren’t good enough.
This after he said the squad was the best he had ever had,
His football management took a bunch of average players and turned them into a steaming pile of shyte.
And he was doing that for years before this season.
It was a bit late to grow a backbone then, he should have done that after the season we finished 5th. But typical of a coward, he took the easy option and became a patsy.
And we (the fans) are getting castigated because we wanted HIM replaced with someone better.

    you’re right, YCMIU

  11. Tory Boy – I took the “BELIEVED” quote from your comment @ 74
that’s why its in quote marks.
YOU were the one that stated we ‘believed’ he would appoint better.
You do realise there is a difference between belief and hope don’t you ?
I think you just prefer to be pedantic and obnoxious.

  12. I do find it incredible that a regime can run a club so badly. How can this happen? Almost everything they do is a disaster. I just don’t know how it is possible.

Regarding changing the manager, we only need one win and even Shearer got that, so I would have done it. I’m just hoping professional pride comes to the fore on Saturday as it’s clear the players and the coach don’t like each other. That’s another reason why we’re doomed next season too as Carver will still be here regardless.

Do just rant without digesting and understanding what others write?

You ask me to answer your simple question. It’s certainly simple.

My point was I knew he wouldn’t appoint the right manager. He would always go for the cheap option. He’s doing it again with Carver. He’s sticking with him as he’s on a long contract.

That question is so ridiculous I can’t believe you asked it. What do you want me to say? Yes, I would have been wrong if he appointed Jose or Arsene?

    Dear me. 🙄

      (Quote)

  14. @Troy. you can scream for Alan all you want. youre forgetting his terrible run end of last season losing 7 out of 8 & didnt win much beginning of this season.

Pardew out is all going to plan. lessons have been learned (hopefully) 😯
If we stay up I’d expect a bit better than Pardew

I see Ed is blaming the protesters for our terrible run 😯 🙄 😛

  15. @Troy

do you honestly expect Mike to worry about ending Carvers contract? what 2mill? at the risk of losing 70Mil plus if we get relegated.

Or is it simply too late to get another manager on board for a relegation scrap? which manager would risk it? not many..

      (Quote)

  16. Betsy

Are you stating you didn’t think Ashley would appoint a better manager than Pardew?

I’m assuming you wanted Pardew sacked because you stated he was out of his depth as a premier league manager. Surely you were expecting better than Pards if you thought that and therefore believed he would?

Make it clear. Pardew being out of his depth as a premier league manager, you therefore believed he would appoint someone better?

I believe Ashley likes Carvers attitude. He must, or he would be sacked.

I think Ashley is clueless as a football club owner. Do I really believe he would consider not sacking him just so he doesn’t have to pay off his contract. I don’t believe it would be a sole basis to make the decision but I’m confident it will be a consideration for him and it shouldn’t even come into it for me.

He’s a complete gambler and his whole record, media reports about his life style clearly show this.

    Yes or No
no mention of Jose or Arsene
once again you have to go to the extremes don’t you.
There were apparently upto 80 applications for the job none from Jose or Arsene though. There were plenty other good choices in there that would have done a good job and the fans and players could get behind and support.
I give up, there’s just no point in trying to debate with you.

It’s obvious if you let defenders go when you are already short on quality that you are one or two injuries/suspensions away from disaster and it was ALWAYS gonna happen with our injury record. Both me and Stu pointed this out but plenty said we wouldn’t miss Mbiwa and Santon, well we do now. 🙁 Short sighted penny pinching idiot has just loaded a stupid amount of pressure on an already weak and poor defence. Oh and not getting in a quality striker was another ball dropped.

I’m not saying this for effect. I mean it. It’s my club as well and they have allowed Ashley to reach this point.

I was advocating protests and boycotts years ago.

  30. BB @ 98 how do you know there were plenty of good choices in the list of 80 ? Did you see the list ? As I don’t believe the club had 80 applicants, do you believe them ?.
I and a few others believed the whole time and stated it a fair few times that if Pards went he would be replaced with another very average yes man or he would be replaced from within .

We knew the club hadn’t done enough in th summer by not buying a proven striker and centre half, yet they went along anyway. We knew it was a mistake to let Mbiwa and Santon leave in January (well some of us did) yet they did it and now look at what’s happening.

    Will he ever learn?

      (Quote)

  35. If the board strive for mid table safety/stability in a hope of doing an Everton for example, then they need to look at the clubs going for the same thing – Swansea, Stoke & West Ham. It’s quite simple really, if you are going through that phase as a club, then the least you have to do is give the fans what they want – a style of football that can excite them.
Over the last 2 seasons they have made changes – Stoke replacing Pullis for Hughes. Swansea replacing Laudrup for Monk and WH bringing in Sheringham to the coaching staff & changed their playing style this season. League position wise not much has changed – but the fans are happier with what they are turning up to watch (WH fans more so earlier this season. Things have fizzled out a bit, but they know Sam will be replaced in the summer – and they will go for the best man possible).
The fact is that Pardew wasn’t liked – he recognised that in the end, and similar to Pullis, he knew that regardless what he did, a large potion of the fans would still pick fault. Is Mark Hughes that much better than Pullis – no, but his footballing style sits better with the majority Stoke fans.
Do we need to go and get Klopp or Benitez – it would be nice, but in reality we need a manager to come in and give us a style of football most of us can get excited about.
Personally, I think Pardew should have been replaced in the summer. It was obvious that he was on a hiding to nothing, coz the dislike for a large number of fans had gone too far.

  37. Big Dave – of course I never saw the list, neither do I know if there were 80 names or not.
I am confident however that there were some applications, and others that may not have applied but who would have come if approached in the ‘normal’ manner.
I am glad your predictions have been proved right well done you.
I said at the time, if he goes down the route you predicted, we would end up in trouble.
Seriously now, WHO in their right mind would go down that route.
No normal sensible thinking person who has any kind of football ideas would.
Ashley has brought all this on himself, and he deserves everything he gets. If that means relegation AGAIN, well tough titty on him.
If this blog is just about point scoring, and who predicted what, when, well how sad is that too ?

  43. BB @ 116 also meant to add, you ask who would go down the route that I predicted ? JABBA he has gambled loads of times before, but then thats because he and the rest of the Regime know fuk all about Footie and running a club , and they think they can do it their way

i know 6 of the applicants – they are season ticket holders that sit in the leazes end.

it wouldn’t surprise me if the other 74 are ordinary fans as well.

      (Quote)

  45. Dave, you’re right. Ashley thinks his way is best. This season has shown that it’s not even best for mediocrity! The question is will he ever learn?

Some supporters are saying we should forget the boycott and turn up and support the team on Saturday. But what happens if we’re in the same position this time next year, which is likely? He has never changed in 8 years so why should we believe him?

One thing that surprises me though; It’s pretty serious now. We’re at crisi point and he’s about to lose £80m. Why hasn’t he released a statement setting out his plans for the future? What is his aims and goals for the club? Explain to the supporters what we are actually supporting these days because we don’t know what supporting NUFC means anymore.

      (Quote)

  46. I feel like the fans and supporters are in a quandary now and we don’t know whether to stick or twist.
Do we continue with boycotts and protests on Saturday ? or should we lay them to one side and get behind the Team and try and roar them on to 3 points in the hope of retaining our PL status ?
Once again a leader needs to come to the fore and unite the fans one way or the other.

  48. We have him in his weakest position for years and I say lets hammer than final nail in!

      (Quote)

  49. I’m just joking Stu. all light banter. 😉

I think we all know how bad Ashley has been for the last 5 yrs. Some (inc me) lived in hope after his prudent ways he might start spending a little bit of the profit he made. The lack of ambition & competing for cups etc has been obvious for years tho and keeping Pardew just keeps us bobbing along imo.

I want to see changes and if it resulted in relegation and Ashley leaving Or changing his ways i’ll accept it.

      (Quote)

  50. Great article Kim. Well if there is any truth in the DM article and JC did offer to resign, what the hell was the bald one thinking in not accepting it? Is he so stupid and out of his depth that someone throws him a few platitudes and he believes all is well and suddenly they’re all going to pull together for the good of the club? YCMIU.
He should have accepted Carvers resignation got one of the players to step up and galvanise the squad for the last three games. Surely that would have increased the chance of something positive happening rather than leaving the three wise monkeys in charge?
Well he has truly reaped what he has sown.
Also if Pardew did predict a relegation battle during the NZ tour last summer, yet jumped mid season what does that tell you about ‘poor’ Alan?
