Baby steps

perez celebratingWell that was tense wasn’t it? We all as one wished for one thing today, spirit, and I think by and large we got it, especially in the second half.

The fans played there part turning up in numbers to back the team and for the most part the players responded. Tim Krul was in good form saving us on more than one occasion, Coloccini was getting stuck in much more than previously as did little Vernon which was good to see and Dummett had a good game too. Jonas was putting some smart runs together and most important of all, the heads didn’t drop when we went one goal down. Thankfully Perez had his shooting boots on to level the game.

The big worry for me is our sheer inability to defend set pieces, we cleared off the line and conceded from a free kick again today. I suggest our next signings need to be a couple of strapping ball winning defenders before we even think about a forward. Our defence as been weak as a baby for far too long but they did well today considering they were up against some big lads.

I think we had them rattled second half and truth be told we could of taken the game with a full strength team, and maybe even with what we had out on the pitch.

Big downside today was the Sunderland result, their win takes them above us on goal difference and frankly they can consider themselves mighty lucky. Winning by two deflected goals, the second of which was offside and off Defoe’s hand . Still them’s the breaks and it’s still in our hands, as they say.

Next up, QPR who may well be relegated by the time we play them. It should be an easy game but often relegated teams play without pressure and turn an easy game into hard work. We need to despatch them and then we can enjoy the last game of the season which is the very least our devoted fans deserve. HWTL

  1. DAVE to be fair there are a few reporting it,but depends if we stay up,its silly season so could be **** and we know some agents throw these storeys out just to get other clubs to jump in

      (Quote)

  2. Silly season will be worse this year since the club leaked the fact that they are going spend big and remake the squad this summer (whether they intend to or not)

      (Quote)

  3. Some reports saying if toon stay up are strike force will be Austin and Mitrovic, think before season starts we will have ten strikers ten defenders ten midfielders and half a dozen keepers if you read all the ****,does your bloody heed in,let’s see someone holding up a shirt forget the rest of **** oh and half a dozen new managers

      (Quote)

  4. Just read a report about Cabaye and Marv talking in the game,Marv told Cabaye he liked the toon but didn’t get much chance and would like to come back but cannot as he’s blacklisted at the club??????

  5. Just having another look at the players in the squad. What does Lee (The Club Genius) Charnley do again? Sort out Marveaux (loan out), Santon (loan out), and Fererrya (loan in) straight away. Then sort out Sammy (contract expires June 30), Jonas (same), Alnwick (same), Streete (same), Campbell (same), Raylor (same), and Satka (same). How many of those to re-sign? Not many I hope. Then sort out Obertan (release him), Tiote (sell him), and Gouffran (sell him). Then get stuck in and buy 2 good CB’s, 2 wingers, and 2 strikers. Otherwise **** off Charnley.

      (Quote)

  6. They didn’t actually say they were going to spend big this summer MDS mate. They said they anticipated a net spend. A huge difference. If they manage to sell Tiote and possibly Sissoko and Krul they may spend half of what the bring in and then pretend it’s a net spend.

      (Quote)

  7. In other words do your job properly or **** off Charnley. We’re going to find out how truly incompetent Charnley is this summer. We will once again begin a new season with a threadbare squad. There will be some new faces in and some old ones out but the squad will be threadbare and we will stagger through the second half of the season again as usual.

  8. I’d be happy with a front line of Mitrovic & Austin like!!

I also think we should go after the boys released from Shalke – Prince Boetang & Sidney Sam would be cracking freebies I reckon

  9. SHARPY more likely be shola and Armstrong mate, those other two must be trouble in some form, clubs don’t throw that sort of money away without a very good reason

  10. Final scores in the fantasy league cup quarter finals:

Newbriscastle Roar 94 – 70 Newkie’s Ale Stars (ha ha ha read it and weep Newkie, lad)
    Solano’s Trumpet 77 – 57 Niknak Utd
Stripes and no stars 39 – 71 WHY SO SERIOUS ?
    Haven’t Got a Kalou 92 – 92 Inter Yasista

So a draw in one game. Checked on the rules:

In the event of a tie between teams in a Head-to-Head knock-out match, the following tie-breaks will be used:

Most goals scored in the Gameweek
Fewest goals conceded in the Gameweek
    Virtual coin toss

Couldn’t be bothered working that out, so we’ll just sit and wait for the game administrators to make a call.

  12. Without a doubt we need players and I dare say when the window opens we’ll need even more players as I am sure there will be a few of our better players will be away, but for me the most important is a change of the Regime or atleast a change in the way they have been running the football side of things. IMO until / if that happens we will just keep going through the same ****.

  14. Bris – who v who in the semis then mate?. I feel like the England national team – over achieving to get to the Quarter finals (Nik Nak Utd), only a 20 points difference isn’t quite as close as an inevitable penalty shoot out defeat

Kevin Prince Boetang and Sidney Sam both joined Shalke as big signings, receiving massive salaries. At the samr time they are both somewhat prima donnas, and Boateng has been carrying an injury for ages. Sam was accused of being to egotistical and thinking “only of himself”… both of there contracts have been terminated with immediate effect. Strange really, cos whereas Boateng is pretty full of himself, Sam looked an excellent player at Bayer Leberkäse last season… The toon shouldn’t touch either of these players with a barge pole imo….

Regarding boycotts, Schalke 04 ultras are so peeved off at the sporting performance of the team (they are 6th and look like missing out on europa league) that they have arranged a boycott protest for the last home game this coming weekend. They will enter the ground, but watch the whole first half in silence, without making a noise nor showing any support for the team. They have urged the rest of the stadium to join in, and they probably will cos the Schalke 04 fans really are hot headed and have plenty to say. Should be fun to see how long Di Matteo lasts there in Newcastle’s twin city of Gelsenkirchen !

  16. Munich – aye but Ashley would get them for nowt and turn a tidy profit on them!! … Have you learned nowt lad 🙄 😆
I totally agree with you of course mate. If a club are prepared to cut there losses on 2 of their calibre, then they must be bad news. Having not long been rid of Benny & Ranger, we don’t want the likes at NUFC again – I think we have enough going on at the moment.

Could offer them a 2 game contract though 😆

Don’t set him off again. 😉

I can’t see us winning against QPR. Only basing that on we couldn’t beat WBA at home after 8 defeats on the bounce and I expect QPR players to try and get some reset back after the slating they’ve had all week.

Again, I hope I’m wrong again. I don’t want us to go down.

      (Quote)

  18. Newkie – I know how you feel mate. I’ve since looked at Solanos team that beat me and I’m sure that ****** had twice the budget I did!! 😆

  19. Sharpy 😆 sounds about right, there’s definitely something wrong here, with us not winning and all that 😐

I mean Solano always agrees with what I say on here, why doesn’t he agree with my team selection, and why is it always better than mine? If Carver’s tenure has taught me anything it’s to believe that I’m the best Fantasy Football Manager there out there, and it’s about time the global league started reflecting that 😉

  21. Breaking news….. now you know I don’t do this kind of thing often (if at all) but I have to pass on this bit of gossip…
I work with a guy who is a Derby fan. He is a great lad that knows his football and his brother was playing golf with Eric Steele the Derby goal keeping coach and he said that Steve McLaren had signed on in January to take over as head coach of Newcastle. Also Eric Steele said he would be coming over as welll.
Mclaren didn’t come over now as he didn’t want to be seen as the guy who was in charge if Newcastle went down…
So there you have it…… it’s up to you if you believe it to be true or not… 😉

      (Quote)

  22. Aussie
You don’t do it often? You’re right. In fact you ridicule anyone who does. 😉

But that aside, as not all Australians are bad 😆 Did McLaren not just announce that he’s definitely staying at Derby?
In addition, what he not have been far more accepted if he came and kept us up. Surely that would would have been Ashleys intention if he approached him in January?
    Many questions, many unanswered.
Is it a source or sore **** you got? 😉

Put that in your diaries boys. Mark or mock my words.

  27. I really can’t believe anyone in their right mind would give Carver a coaching job after what we’ve just been through (and maybe still going through it). If he gets the job, then Charnley should be sacked … and maybe certified as insane.

  28. Begas
These aren’t football people and it appears Carver has Charnley’s ear. Carver certainly gives the impression that he’s had assurances that he’ll be able to get rid of many of the squad. Other than McLaren, there’s been no other managers really linked to the job.
Ashleys good at appointing the wrong people, that’s for sure, and Carver is in prime position to slot straight in.

  29. Troy, I trust my sorz completely…he is a die hard Derby fan and has no reason to bullshit to me… So what questions are left unanswered?

  31. I don’t get why everyone thinks Aslhley is loyal? He wasn’t loyal to Keegan, Shearer, Hughton or Fat Sam. That Chelsea dwarf was even sent packing. The only loyalty I have seen was to Pardew. Will Carver receive the same just because Ashley owes him a few quid – I am sure Fat Sam got a decent payoff from our other Fat man.

  32. From the Mag;
Question: If Mike Ashley is committed to owning the club, why doesn’t he just write the debt off?

Answer: The board explained that it would be an option that some clubs would consider, but from the perspective of our group structure there is a requirement to have debt within the structure.

When ‘Group Structure’ is talked about by Ashley and his employees at Newcastle United, it is this ‘MASH Holdings’ that they are referring to, where the Newcastle United owner has grouped together the football club and his brands/shareholdings. The reason for having that debt inside Newcastle United is because for business reasons it suits Mike Ashley, not any kind of goodness of his heart towards our club.

Question by me; can someone explain the benefits in layman terms? Is it a tax benefit to have a loan?
One of you must be a businessman who knows the answer.

      (Quote)

  33. Troy, I think it is to do with tax, pretty sure I have seen someone on here refer to it before.

Took dad in yesterday to see her, I used his wheelchair like a walking frame in the absence of my crutch. Got my MRI today, so will visit mum before that. Talk about lousy timing, I took 6 taxis on Monday and probably 4 most other days plus buses,I am bleeding money at the moment.

  36. I don’t see Jabba selling up any time soon, even if we go down. He’ll just add to the loan and have an even bigger strangle hold over us . I reckon he’s had offers for the club that we aren’t aware of but mucked people around in negotiations or just said a flat no. The free advertising is worth a lot more than people think, you only have to see how much more SD is worth since he took us over.

      (Quote)

  37. Kim, yeah, if you have an asset that generates money but not enough to actually cover the costs of having/running that asset, you can claim the losses back at tax time.

      (Quote)

  39. I think on the loan all we really need to know is it is for the good of Jabba, and not the club.
Same as the lack of advertising revenue that doesnt benefit our club just Jabba and the other SD shareholders.

I tend to agree with that. Dennis Wise, Joe Kinnear etc. He seems to get sucked in by brainless idiots and Carver fits the bill.

  43. Dave – that’s my thoughts on it too. Actually there are a lot of 30 plus players in that squad who are probably thinking of hanging their boots up.
It’s QPRs last home game of the season, and the fans obviously aren’t happy with the flight of their club.
We should get at them from the off, try and get that first goal and the fans will be on their backs. Start our strongest players – even if they aren’t fully fit. Start them and replace them later in the game I reckon.

      (Quote)

  44. Thanks for the link Jill.
So Ashley is getting free advertising for his main company hence the loss to our commercial revenue and he benefits as a tax dodge. That tax dodge doesn’t go in the club’s coffers either.
Aussie will have something to say defending it I’m sure.
    😉

  45. My starting line up against QPR would be:

    —————— Krul ——————-
    Janmaat – Colo – Dummett – Jonas
    —— Raylor ——- Colback ——-
    — Sissoko – Perez – Aarons —
    —————- Cisse —————-

Jonas & Raylor aren’t ideal but it’s the best we have at the moment.

      (Quote)

  46. Sarpy – you think Raylor’s a better bet than Abeid? I know Carver hasn’t fancied him since that Man U last minute rick but I feel for the lad. He was pushed in the back when he passed back to Krul. Carver would probably say that Raylor’s dead balls count for a lot but that’s not what I’ve seen lately.
Also feel Sissoko’s best running from deep. He’s useless when he hasn’t space to gallop into and wanders aimlessly when he hasn’t the ball.

    Think we’ll stay up mate?

      (Quote)

  47. Just had a thought.
We are reported ( I know, pinch of salt) to be after a fair few loan signings for the coming season. So, an outlay of wages only, no transfer fee and little value to the long term future of the club.
And Ashley has stated he will not sell the club till 2016 at the earliest.
If he was indeed looking to sell after one more season then the most profitable avenue to walk down would be to sell off whatever assets he can this summer, then pay only wages for the coming season on mostly loan players and then sell the club.
    Wishful or logical thinking?

      (Quote)

  48. I dont know, but I have no issue with 2 or 3 good quality young loan signings coming in to help the squad. They are usually hungry for it.

      (Quote)

  49. Kim I don’t know you see. Let’s just imagine for a moment that Ashley accepted a bid of 250 million off some rich arab and done the deal. He could then buy Villa at 150 million and advertise his SD ****. He would also be pleased with himself for making 100 million pounds for nothing.

      (Quote)

  50. If we have only loan signings for a season in order for Ashley to sell, I’d be fine with that.

      (Quote)

  51. Although that scenario would most likely mean leaving Carver in charge for another year

      (Quote)

  52. Crystal Palace could be an even cheaper alternative. Let’s be honest with ourselves, Ashley doesn’t care about the football side. Nice little reunion with Alan Pardew. He could even employ DL and have a party. Why own Newcastle, we don’t want him.
At Palace he would be appropriated and adored by the fan’s and have a trusted friend like AP and DL on standby with a bottle of Carver.

      (Quote)

  53. Loan signing’s would be fine Wobblehog. His got 34 million, why not keep it and loan people.
