Game on! Newcastle United V’s West Brom

A warm welcome to West Bromwich Albion
A warm welcome to West Bromwich Albion
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the highs and lows ( Of what JC has billed as the most important game in 6yrs ) as we play host to WBA in this afternoons Premier league game (3pm kick-off), We go into the fixture on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Leicester City, which saw us finish with just nine men following red cards to Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat. That was the eighth successive top flight defeat for us.
When the sides met earlier in the season, we came away with a 2-0 victory from the Hawthorns.
Ayoze Perez’s brilliant flick on the stroke of half-time broke the deadlock before a Fabricio Coloccini header sealed all three points for the United.
Speaking ahead of the game John Carver said “West Brom are a very organised side under Tony (Pulis) and they are a huge threat from set plays,” said Carver.
“Manchester United found it very difficult to break them down but we are the home team and we need to win the game.
“It’s going to be very tight. I can’t see there being too many goals looking at our record and at theirs, but we are determined to find a way to win on Saturday.
“We have had a bad run of games but I’ve seen enough from the lads that they want to be productive and they want to do something about it.”
Despite the other teams at the foot of the table picking up points from their recent fixtures, Carver insists he remains focused on Newcastle’s games and no-one else’s.
“I’m not worried about anyone else’s results. We are in the position where we can affect what happens,” he continued.
“It’s in our hands – we are not one of the teams in the bottom three. We can’t afford to worry about what everyone else is doing.
“I don’t think about what the teams are doing below us because I can’t affect that in any way.
“I’m going to focus all my effort and all my concentration on what I can do at this football club, and the earlier we can get results the better – starting with this weekend.”

  1. have these docile knackers thought about playing a dead ball short ? They have 6 players 12 foot tall and put the ball high into the box ?

  2. Would Carver take a calculated risk by subbing on cisse for 2nd half? 😳 😳

  3. Stuart79@136, I reckon Santone and Mbiwa’s hearts weren’t in it and the owner got the dollar signs in his eyes… honest John Carver gave them the final push…

  4. Just watched the Villa West Ham highlights…how did the ref not award a pen for West Ham ? There have been some terrible refereeing decisions today…

  5. Cabella has been lively but with no real threat so I would sub him for Aarons, and take Rivi off for Cisse.
I just fear that if JC plans on getting to the 70 mins or so mark to make a change we will be chasing the game by then

  6. Big D… honest John is probably scared of losing both Cisse and Aarons for the season… we could question whether they are both really fit and are on the bench out of desperation ?

  7. we need to keep the point we have, hope Carver doesn’t go gung-ho, make daft subs, and lose the game

  12. Sissoko 90% of the time doesn’t look as if he gives a fuk and just strolls about, and standing about rather than tackle
