Where are they now ?

This blog has been going for a while now and our group has seen some good times, along with many more bad times – but there has always one constant positive, the Craic in this ‘room’. We have Toonsy to thank for setting this site up and it’s unfortunate that he does not make it on anymore, hopefully all is well and we’ll see him soon.

Can I take this opportunity to gently encourage our past writers to join the cause and begin to contribute regularly again. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I miss those contributions. For a long while we had a diverse group of writers, from NUFC and his stats, Premandup’s look at finances etc, the bloke who lives in Dubai or Qatar who produces humorous anecdotes? MarkToon and many more.

Its good to see the likes of Kim chipping in these days too and it would be great if more people wanted to have a crack at it. Don’t worry if you have strong opinions, the more debate the better – lets kick this blog back into full swing again! If you have ideas for a series of stories, go for it! I used to run a series based on our fringe players for example. We could have series on our youth players, coaches, players we have sold in the last few years, players we have been linked to in recent years – how have their careers panned out?

We will still be the Toon Army long after Ashley has gone, so lets get the place buzzing again. If you can remember the names of past contributors and what was unique about them – comment below. Lets see if we can prize them out of their hiding places!

Cheers,
Shamrock.

About Shamrock

  1. Shamrock I think the general demise, **** poor football, and lack of ambition of the club has knocked the interest out of the fans/bloggers.
I can remember yrs back during transfer windows the place was real busy and on transfer deadline day the place was chock-a-block, but then the effects of Jabba took hold.
But it would be nice to try to get the place rocking again, 😉

  2. Shamrock – appreciate the comments but the truth is folk can only say we are **** so many times before it becomes pointless and while I really enjoyed your efforts, particularly the Len White one, I’m so pissed off and tense about the situation it’s best just to shut up. We’ll all be back!

      (Quote)

  3. I know the feeling fellas. I disappeared almost completely for the best part of a year and a half! It’s important to remember though, that long before Jabba was here and long after he’s gone, the one constant at our club always has been and always will be the fans. 😀 ……….unless we do a Wimbledon 😯

  4. Aye as Dave says jabba has more or less knocked the stuffing out of fans for the sake of making money, how much money does this guy want,iI do think the guy gets his kicks out making fans suffer thing is the city its self will suffer if the club go down as crowds will drop so less money spent alround imo if we do go down we will be down for a few years, this blog helps fans as they can come on and “blow off”or enjoy threads of times gone bye so do hope we can get new and old bloggers to front up and keep the rest of us going

  5. Hi Dave.
Quite happy to put up a post or two. Need to know where. I used to send them as e-mail to Toonsy’s private address. Now that doesn’t work need an update.

Other reason is that I seem to find myself at odds with much of the rants on here. It got a bit personal at times, but that seems to have eased off, at least between bloggers.

But I feel that i’ve said most of what I have to say. The current uncertainty does not make a suitable background for looking at the finances other than to say that anybody who thinks that relegation is the answer really has no idea what the question is. It might be decades before we get back.

Simply blaming Ashley, without looking at UEFA, the EPL finances, and the role the fans have played is simplistic.

The current apathy that pervades most of what I read is discouraging to writing as well.

Sorry about all that. I’m actually busy writing content for an online lifeskills academy that hopefully goes live in the autumn. So that is taking up most of my creativity.

Still yes, since you ask, I’ll have a think, see what I can come up with.

  6. Prem I’ll send you my email later , and sure if you do get something to write about you can send me it.
But I do think atm there is very little to get excited about, but maybe there will be changes after sunday and we can maybe get some hope back, but I wont be holding my breath 😕

  7. Went for a hair cut and his a Manu fan. He said, ” I reckon will beat Hull on saturday. I replied, ” I don’t know. I reckon Manu might do Steve Bruce a favour on saturday. being a former Manu legend”. Well I’m 50/50 about sunday. Not looking forward to it to be honest. How much money does one man need ? Absolutely ridiculous.

  8. What happens in the summer should hopefully provide content for new articles. If .. If! We stay up, Carver has said there will be a post mortem. Charnley has acknowledged there have been mistakes that need putting right. How they go about that intrigues me. Will it be another half cocked effort or will there be some urgency shown in getting this club back on track. Ashley seems to have this blind loyalty to those around him, however now and again he does swing the axe – Wise & Kinnaer for example. Will he do the right thing and get rid of Carver & Stone and get a proper management team in – one that can install an infrastructure for the future of the club. There could be an opportunity in the summer to put things right – is there any chance Ashley will see that and do it?.

  9. Roll on Sunday and we can all move on from this season.
Win or lose, the summer is gonna be very interesting.
New players new head chef 😉
    Pre season schedule
But the current uncertainty is too painful. Can’t concentrate at work.
    It’s a proper ‘mare.

  10. Boots – it’s fucking horrible, especially with the Scum achieving safety last night. The muppets I work with, my fatha & fatha in law are laying it on thick now!!.
I can’t even decide whether to watch the game or not. I remember watching the Villa game and it was horrible – I’m not sure I can do that again mate.

      (Quote)

  11. Sharpy17 I cancelled my Sky sports channels because I can’t stand watching us play at the moment mate. The Sunderland game was the final straw for me mate. I would rather save 22 pounds a month and listen to the results on Sky sports news instead. I went to JJB for a pair of sun glasses today instead of sports direct which I refuse to shop in.

      (Quote)

  12. I really must try and book a couple of weeks holiday in Prem’s head! It sounds like a great place!

      (Quote)

  13. Prem your going to win the sports direct mug at this rate. Relegation is the only way to rid ourselves of Ashley.

  14. Alreet bonny lads, aye I haven’t been on in quite a while, check oot me profile pic as to the last time I was happy as a toon fan. To be honest I’m with most of the feeling on here and me mates, it’s depressing being a mag at the minute and it feels like a more of a chore as each weekend approaches 🙁 🙁 ………I hope to god we don’t get relegated but really cant see us getting a result 😯 😯

…….anyway, long story short, we came back to Rio de Je Westerhope in May last year, I went to Saudi for six months to earn some cash and came back in November last year 😎 😎 ….so aye maybe I should change me name to Geordiehope (the irony!) or something 😆 😆

  15. A name I would throw into the pot to be our next manager D Ginola,he knows how us fans feel, knows the type of footy we like to see,I know he hasn’t done this type of job before,he would jump at the chance,he cannot do worse than those before him why I chose him is because there is no way jabba will pay top money for a top manager

      (Quote)

  16. Ice – I know what you mean mate, but I hope we avoid that at all costs now. Shearer knew how us fans felt & what football we wanted, and despite what anyone says, Carver too. Both had no previous managerial experience & both bombed – badly.
For me we desperately need someone with experience over anything else. A bloke the players can look at and say ‘yeah you’ve been there and done it as a manager before and you know what you’re talking about’.
That’s been the difference between us & scum this season IMO. They looked at Advocaat and saw a bloke they were happy to follow coz he’s done it.
I would love to see Ginola at the club in some capacity, but not the top job for me mate.

      (Quote)

  17. Stuart from the last thread. What do you expect me to talk about? Our dire plight and the incompetence of our management is the issue at the moment. I might dwell on the inability of Carver to put a coherent sentence together a bit much but he is the man mainly responsible for the last 10 games of a pathetic excuse for football. As things have spiraled out of control, and I don’t see anyone questioning that, Carver has become an almost comedic figure, a fool to laugh at. There are 3 days left until relegation D-Day and I would sack him now as I think he is having a negative influence on the team with his:

    middle management speak
beratings and put downs of players
    constant excuses

  18. Blog Fantasy League semi-final result:

    Newbriscastle Roar 40 – 51 WHY SO SERIOUS ?
    Solano’s Trumpet 49 – 70 Haven’t Got a Kalou

    No double for Solano.

As for my lads, well, they were a bit tired after winning the A-league final on Sunday – doing the double for the second year in a row. 😆

    Good luck to the finalists.

  19. Prems comment @5 is right to a degree. These rules were brought in by the governing bodies not Ashley. But the fact is that Ashley has used them to his advantage, as an excuse if you like, to run the club the way he runs his business. He’s cut corners and penny pinched as much as he could and all the while used FFP for it.
As someone who has a fear of unmanageable debt in his own life, I am all in favour of being financially savvy – but it’s clear to everyone that Ashley has taken that to the extreme and there is no balance to how the club is ran at all anymore.

      (Quote)

  20. Niall Quinn says of **** Advocaat – He’s done a remarkable job. He’s came in and said very little in his interview. He’s worked at organising the first team and removed all of the pressure from them.
Doesn’t that sound a millions miles away from how JC has gone about things?!.

      (Quote)

  21. Sharpy – the club’s total basket case at the moment. This team with that excuse for a manger will never win another game. I don’t think even Ashley ever saw the level of incompetency coming. Still, he called the shot!

      (Quote)

  22. Georgio – I don’t think he did at all. I think he genuinely believed JC could get the 12-15points needed. I can’t be overly critical of that because to be fair so did I, and I’m sure I wasn’t alone in that. But the fact is Ashley is in a position to correct his mistake and for me he can only do that by sacking JC at the end of the season. He can’t work with these players after this, and after what he said about Willo in public, why would any player trust him.

      (Quote)

  23. Shamrock, I agree would love to see more articles from others go up and give us something different to discuss other than Jabba and JC’s failings. Fact is there is a deep depressive cloud above the club at the moment. For some fans there is acceptance that we will drop, others fear it and some think we’ll be safe and many are just **** right angry. If only we had the smallest glimmer of hope for the future, alas there seems no light at the end of the tunnel and until Mike picks up his ball and leaves I fear that will always be the case. 🙁

      (Quote)

  24. Stu – yeah I saw that mate. So the likes of Barca & City called their bluff and they backed down.

  25. Looking forwards to the end of season inquest. Does anyone have the brass balls to tell Ashley a few home truths.
    Probably not.
Carver will have a nice handsome payoff complete with gagging order.
I’m hoping chumlee gets the boot too.
What a farce of a club we have become.

      (Quote)

  26. Sharply – there’s about 20 different law suits ongoing against UEFA so I’m not surprised. It was never going to work. How do you tell a billionaire what he can and can’t spend his money on?

      (Quote)

  27. Boots – If Ashley needs people to tell him what a complete balls up he’s made then he’s thick as two short planks and I really don’t think he’s that stupid!

  28. I used to enjoy the articles written by Archie Brand wherein he included snippets on his life in Saudi ? or somewhere in that area.
We usually won our next game following his article – how we could do with an article from him before Sunday.
Sadly . some on the blog were quite envious of his lifestyle and posted accordingly.
It was Troy who did a parody on Archies articles, giving us an amusing insight to life on Cruddas Park.
Archie never wrote another article after that.
Come back with some more articles Archie , a lot of us appreciated them.

  32. Having heard a thousand times that our destiny is in our own hands, I hope Ugly John realises that anything other than a win is useless to us on Sunday. We can stay up with a Hull loss or draw, but need a win if Hull win.

  34. For what my view as a reader and very very little contributor is worth, I second the notion of Big Dave to have more articles again. It was a daily update kind of arena back in the day, and that is missed. It does say a lot, however, about the general gang that frequent this particular blog, that the slight decrease in productivity has not led many, if any, to be searching elsewhere for the Craic. No matter how old a particular thread may be, the latest comment has only ever aged by a matter of minutes.
