Who is the fans’ choice?

Mr Keane has been linked in recent days!
Mr Keane has been linked in recent days!
This is a quick canvass of our readers to establish who the people want as our next manager. I have only named the coaches that will realistically be in the running judging purely by the volume of recent press reports. Moyes has been left off the list because he has not been linked much for some reason. Mr Klopp has been left out as quite frankly, he is wet dream that is highly unlikely to happen! Pole closes at about 18:00.

  1. Given That Marcelo Bielsa is not coming, I’ll go 1 2 3 with at number 1
Rudi Garcia (Roma) 2 Frank de Boer (Ajax) 3 Bert van Marwijk (free Agent)

Would not be disappointed with Moyes or Garde. Did mean Brian or Michael Laudrup ? Would be disappointed with McLaren, Annoyed with Carver. But prepared to put a fiver on Ketsbia who is a free agent.

  2. This is like choosing between Ann Widicombe, Bella Emberg and Clair Rayner for a bit of you know what…

  3. <<<<<<<<<<<< thinks if the toon were ganna give it to carver it would of been announced by now

  4. TAE

The likelihood is, they are approaching other managers but are getting knocked back when they discuss terns and conditions, therefore they will appoint Carver when all other options have failed and claim he was first choice.

    Have you not learnt anything?

  5. I still think McClaren would be a good choice, but wouldn’t blow me away.
He knows the area, so knows what the Derbys mean. He knows the league and English football and he’s won an English cup – so knows how that feels.
So on that basis, I’d also go with Michael Laudrup who also knows English football & also knows what it is to win an English cup.
Either of those 2 and I’d be happy.

  6. Someone made a great point on Twitter. The club penny pinch beyond belief and appear to be doing the same now with all th candidates being out of work, yet they written of millions and millions of pounds in league placements without a second thought the second half of this season. Can anyone work that out?

  7. Troysta: Stop me if you have heard this one before 🙂 But criticising one of the world’s worst managers ever during his slow motion train wreck is a bad thing? He was Manager for 5 months, during 4 and 1/2 of which you said nothing? YCMIU.

  8. TROY STAVERS
hope ya still about when they announce it stick around bud school in session

  9. Bring back Pardew….. let’s be honest ‘Sir Alex would only do a slightly better job’ than him 😆
I know Troy and Stuart would be wrapped with him coming back, however they have hardly gotten over the fact he has gone …so maybe it is too soon! 😆

      (Quote)

  10. Troysta has no credibility. He takes the incongruous stance of supporting Jonny C and then saying he won’t go to games because we are a shambles. His vote shouldn’t count 🙂

  11. Aussie – The price of the pudding will be in the eating. Let’s see who is appointed and decide if they’re better than Pardew or not. I suspect it won’t be as clear cut as many believe.

  12. I think it will be somebody else, from left field.
Just as it was when Percy Parsnip was appointed
    Prepare to be massively underwhelmed

  13. TROY STAVERS
the fact that he aint been named yet should at least give peeps a bit of hope that maybe we are about to get some1 with a bit of footie iq that was the point i was trying to make

      (Quote)

  14. TAE – Ypu have more faith than many of you think that. I’ll be amazed if it’s not McClaren or Garde. If they turn it down it will be Carver.

any1 in here would be an upgrade on carver but thats just me opion

      (Quote)

  16. unless it was ya good self of course then i would prob say come on down mr carver all is forgiven lmao

  17. Carver is the fall back option, no doubt in my mind.
The next HC will have to be prepared to work with him either way.
This has got to be a major stumbling block to any new appointment.
    YCMIU
    Only at the Toon 🙁

      (Quote)

  18. The money fatty made from selling Percy would be more than enough to pay off the coaching team. Then we would have a clean slate for the next HC to start with.
our so called ‘board’ are beyond belief.
    So frustrating

      (Quote)

  19. Stuart @ 15.. that has been my stance all along.. I just couldn’t understand why you and Troy were so intent on rubbing John Carver in everyone’s nose when Pardew left?? Carver is obviously a worse choice as gaffer than Pardew but he was never our ‘new’ manager.. 😉

  20. Rangers lost their play off final first leg 1-3 last night at home 😯
The 2nd leg is on sunday.

      (Quote)

  21. Went for Garde myself. Would love Klopp obviously! Troy, I have edited Laudrup. 😳

      (Quote)

  22. Shamrock welcome aboard 😉 out of the 4 names I would go for Laudrup, but if we were to push the boat out I would go for Rafa.
TAE there was a few of us said that Carver was going to take over when Pards went, but there was a fair few said it couldnt be otherwise the club would have came out earlier to confirm it was him. But as I said then that would be like the club admitting that they had no other intentions except to give it to Carver, but they let it go on to make it look like they were trying to get a proper manager.
So I wouldn’t take any comfort out of the fact they hadn’t named him by now, the only comfort I will get is if the name someone else.

  23. I believe Jocelyn Gourvennec was being considered a few months ago.
I would be okay with giving him the chance to prove himself in the EPL.

  24. Cheers Dave. Think I have got to grips with getting articles published now, so glad to help out 🙂

I will edit the article with the results later if I get time. Will be at work 🙁

just a reminder to people, you should be able to log in and write drafts now, which we can publish for you. just let us know when you are good to go. Otherwise, let us know on the blog you have something typed up and we’ll get in touch to get it published via other means.

  26. Guingamp coach Jocelyn Gourvennec is the latest name to be linked to the Magpies hotseat, with French paper L’Équipe claiming Newcastle have sounded out the 43-year-old for the position.

The former Marseille, Rennes, SC Bastia and Montpellier midfielder began his coaching career at La Roche – where he was once named Ligue 2 manager of the year – before taking over at Guingamp in 2010.

Having led Guingamp to promotion from Ligue 2 during the 2012-13 season, he then helped them to survive in the top flight with a 16th-placed finish – as well as claiming the Coupe de France that campaign, only the second time the club have won the trophy in their history.

Progress has continued again this season, with Guingamp having finished in the top-half of Ligue 1, in 10th position – claiming 49 points from 38 games.

    Now we are talking.
Mid table mediocrity and a cup winner
Right up ashleys street this one.
    Win win

  28. BB: please no. There is no way I will be able to spell that guy’s name consistently. Jocelyn Gourvennex?

  29. And now Moyes is back in the mixer, having rejected the blunderland offer. 😆
    and on it goes

but until then im ganna try and remain hopefully things are about to change

      (Quote)

  31. Eric I will send you an email in a bit when I get onto a laptop or pc,
TAE I dont know if it will be Carver this time, but was just making the point that if it was JC’s gig it wouldn’t be in the clubs best interest to confirm now as it would send the message to fans that they didn’t try.

      (Quote)

  32. Nice one Shamrock, I went with Garde but would Love Klopp or even Rafa but that will never happen. Not sure about Laudrup, think he could get stroppy with the regime and we don’t need any more drama imo. I would back him though as I don’t dislike him.

      (Quote)

  33. Dave, spot on. The fans should hold back on renewing ST like they are holding back on announcing new coach. Let’s see who blinks first.

      (Quote)

  34. I agree Kim. The fact they have extended the ST deadline shows they re worried. Not worried enough to get a bloody manager through the door though!

      (Quote)

  35. I do think they are looking for a new man, but I doubt many if any of the good ones will be prepared to work under the strict criteria being foisted upon them.
I picture them going round and round in circles yet unable to work it out.
4 1/2 weeks til pre season though
    tick tick tick

  36. Ice@47 Silly season and this is what happens when silence descends and no action is seeing to be done. 🙄

      (Quote)

  37. Probably just one call Ice – You interested? No.
Don’t know where Viera’s come from either – things have been so bad for so long fans are desperate for something positive.
Something about Laudrup I’m not keen on. Arrogance? Commitment? Something aloof about the guy.

      (Quote)

  38. Clement, Laudrup,Redknapp, Rodgers,Hoddle, Lee Clark, In that order, Mclaren is a fool, Garde does not know the PL and Carver I feel sorry for but he just aint good enough, id rather Beardsley was in charge if we had to promote from within. Or even Carr for that matter. he has managed before, and at least he would get the payers he wanted. If all else fails we could always give joke kinnear or wisey a call

      (Quote)

  39. I got the minutes from the board meeting.

Those present and accounted for: Carr, Charnly and Troy Stavers. Snacks, pickled walnuts.

The floor is open to the Troysta:

FFS, who ever thought about pickling walnuts? These are disgusting. Still, I supported Pardew and I will stick with these walnut thingys as well. Carver for me.

Carr and Charnley: alreet then, meeting adjourned.

  40. Icedog @47: So that is Viera and Keane linked with us now. It would be a good fight in the tunnel. All we need now is Shearer in the mix to kick things off.

      (Quote)

  41. Georgio @52 – I agree re: Laudrup. Think he’d be good in the short term, but he seems to lack staying power and commitment judging by what previous club fans have said. Not sure he’d be a good fit.

      (Quote)

  42. ERIC lol Carver is known to swing one or two as well,I can see scum and toon trying for the same guy which could bump up his wages, would love toon to upstage scum and get Klopp in

      (Quote)

  43. Could be a case of Hoddle/Venables or both, they both have said in the past that they would like toon job

      (Quote)

  44. Ice for me Venables is too long in the tooth and a bit too old school , but there is something about Hoodle dont really know what it is but I think he would be a decent manager.

      (Quote)

  45. DAVE I agree Venables is long in the tooth I failed to explain that he would be brought in to be the football “brain”at the club not as a coach as imo we don’t have a soul at the club that understands football to work with Hoddle as the coach,at the same time I don’t think jabba will put a football guy into the club he will stick with the clowns that make him money and not spend it 😥

  48. Poor Gareth, his been out of work along time and I’m sure he would be very grateful if Ashley throws him a bone.

  49. Eric/Dave – if you want me to get the article published, I can fix it up before I go to work and schedule it to come out at about half 6 today?
