Unfounded Transfer Rumours’ Roundup.

Scteve surveys the training ground trying desperately to locate a decent coach to train his new players. That is, if he actually joins.

Because life is a popularity contest, some sites love to post stories claiming transfer deals are done, close to being done or being looked at. This way they get hits on their sites and they look like they are ‘in the know’.

We don’t tend to do that here, so lets buck the trend by highlighting all the players linked with moves to and from Newcastle United in the last fortnight. If we name them all, we are bound to strike lucky with one or two, right? Looking at the stories, sites such as NUFCBLOG.COM and WHAT CULTURE seem to me to be pretty prolific at printing any old guff based on no direct source at all. So lets list their claims;

According to the CHRONICLE, Tim Krul and Fabricio Colloccini could well be allowed to leave this summer. That is because we are apparently going to make a few new signings – and the above first teamers may be surplus to requirements. Outstanding journalism.

Moving on then and lets look at defense. The Sunday Express claim we have made a FIRM BID for £21 MILLION POUND rated defender Aymen Abdennour. That’s right. Mike Ashley has stated his intention to not leave until we have won something, or qualified for the Champion’s League – so clearly he is going to buck 8 years of strategy to go large on one player. You heard it here first second third fourth fifth…. Meanwhile according to NUFCBLOG.COM we are in with a very good chance of landing Micah Richards at right back. The reason? He wants to get back into the England team and will want 1st team football. It’s apparently between us and Liverpool and we are more likely because we are not as good as Liverpool, so he’ll get more game time with us. Excellent news. According to The MIRROR we are also in for £10m rated James Chester of Hull. He just has to chose between us, Villa and West Brom. Meanwhile, according to WHAT CULTURE, Mike Williamson is likely to be off to the Championship because he knows we are going to sign defenders and knows his game time will be reduced. He is open to the Championship apparently, although no actual club has been quoted as being interested in him.. They also claim we are in for Daniel WASS, the Danish right back who likes to get forwrad. It does not stop there, as they also claim we are battling Sunderland for Burnley right back Kieran Tripper, who is rated at £3.5. This is because we are likely to lose Daryl Janmaat – who has become disillusioned with life on Tyneside following a poor season. So, now that defense is sorted with £31m worth of talent in the middle and 2 from Richards, Tripper or Wass at right back, lets see what is happening to our midfield;

According to the METRO, Andre AYEW is choosing between us and West Ham. He prefers a free transfer switch to the Premiership and we are at the front of the queue for the exciting winger. All we have to do is give him a competitive wage, signing on fee and convince him we are ambitious. What could possibly go wrong? Back of the net!
One day Moussa Sissoko is pledging his undying love to the Magpies and intention to stay, the next day he is on French radio claiming Jose Mourinho is tracking him and he’d love to go play for him. Good to see the lack of consistency is not only confined to his performances, but also his words. According to the TELEGRAPH, this move could happen. The DAILY MAIL claim we are set to sign Marseille playmaker Florian Thauvin, whilst WHAT CULTURE claim we are in for goal scoring Dutch midfielder Georginho Wilnaldum. Meanwhile, Mehdi Abeid is off to AEK Athens (CHRONICLE) and young Reading winger Tariq Fosu is a target (NUFCBLOG.COM). What a different make up our midfield is set to have…

Juiciest of all is up front. WHAT CULTURE link us to the following transfers: Papiss Cisse is a strong target for Sevilla because get this – he scores goals. Apparently, if he does not go to Sevilla, we may get rid of him anyway – because of his age. This move is necessary for Sevilla because their top scorer Carlos Bacca’s agent has hinted at a Toon move, according to WHAT CULTURE. Interesting, what did he say? Turns out not a lot, other than he is open to a move away from Sevilla – therefore that means a Toon move. Really? Ours for only £14m. You heard it here first second.

Patrick Bamford is a target now that Steve McClaren is signing, according to WHAT CULTURE. But hang on, apparently he won’t come here because he did not like Steve’s coaching techniques (The NORTHERN ECHO). So, which is it? Not to worry though, because the CHRONICLE say we are interested in Manchester United’s James Wilson as well as David Concha from Racing Santander. The DAILY MAIL are at it again by quoting the Partizan Belgrade Chairman in claiming we have agreed a £15m fee with Anderlecht for their 20-year-old (and untested at the highest level) Aleksander Mitrovic. Exciting and definitely not a huge risk at all. If that does not happen, we still have Andy Carroll keen to re-join us (claimed by the METRO with no actual quote from the player or anybody close to him).

And the best for last, all stories run by NUFCBLOG.COM: Dame N’DOYE has been talking to the (outgoing) Papiss Cisse about joining us, even though no ‘source’ has suggested we are interested in him. We are in for Andre-Pierre Cignac, but may be upstaged by West Brom in the race for his signature. We are seriously looking at Saido Berahino of West Brom, who is only rated at £20m – and finally Newcastle are WELL PLACED to sign Charlie Austin. Why you ask? Here is direct quote from their story on the 26th May:

We’ve been after Charlie for a few years now

and

he will be a target for Newcastle at around £10M.

. They are very sure of this, so it must be true.

Of all these transfer links, the only quotes I can find to substantiate any of it is a Chairman of a 3rd party club claiming the Mitrovic deal is agreed, whilst Sissoko has tried to talk himself into a Chelsea move. No direct confirmation from any club about any of the above moves being discussed. Silly season is well and truly in full swing!

  1. So all of these “unfounded” rumours from The Chronicle, The Northern Echo, What Culture and NUFCBlog are actually based on stories from elsewhere that, if you read them correctly, you would be able to see for yourself.

Also, who is Mike Williams and Davide Abeid? I don’t think either of those have ever pulled on black and white shirts… And Carlos Bocca – don’t think he plays for Sevilla either.

Transfer rumours are just that, rumours, but some of them are actually quoted from alternative sources…

  2. The fact that unless Carr has been there, seen there and he holds up the T shirt he ain’t coming

  3. Ooh Jim touched a nerve? Couple of spelling errors and you are all hot under the collar aren’t you?! I did see a few other stories quoted other news outlets, but they still ran them as a story on their own site and still had no actual source.

      (Quote)

  4. But what “source” did you get in every story when Gareth Bale was going to go to Real Madrid? Until a club officially announces something it is all hearsay to a certain degree.

      (Quote)

  5. The N’Doye link is true. He was Cisses best mate and Cisse spoke highly of NUFC and the Geordie women – though said they weren’t marriage material 😳

      (Quote)

  6. Jim – so you agree that McClaren has never rejected a previous approach from NUFC.

      (Quote)

  7. I don’t agree necessarily no. It hasn’t been confirmed by him or the club, but enough journalists seem to believe he has done to make me think he probably did reject them twice yeah.

  8. Shamrock cheers for the interesting read but for me Transfer Rumours or Transfer bullshit, as 99% of them stories are just that bullshit, was just having a quick look and a few of the papers and what culture are saying how SM is “excited” and “warchest” etc and not one direct quote from him that I can see.
i am like Prem I don’t believe owt until they are seen holding the shirt up with the sports direct sign behind them.

  9. Vieira story was the best example of watching spin develop I have witnessed.
Bookies odds created the story, ‘papers and blogs then ran and re-ran each others articles. Several actually inserted their own interpretations into Vieira’s comments in order to make them sound something else.
When speaking of his coaching course with the Welsh FA, he mentioned the ‘tools’ that was giving him, how he was learning what type of manager he wanted to be etc.
Before you knew it, ‘NUFC’ or ‘City” (or both !) had been added to that (by the media/bloggers) to make it sound something completely different!
And of course, not one single source or official comment from him or Club to actually prove up any of the claims being written.

  10. Jim – nice contradiction there mate. So it’s more about volume of opinion than actual fact 😉

      (Quote)

  11. I see where you’re coming from Sharpy17, but journalists are surely better connected than the rest of us. Surely they do have more idea than we do.

      (Quote)

  12. Jim – they also generally don’t let truth get in the way of a good story – or be averse to twisting the wording to make a story more interesting than it actually is.

      (Quote)

  13. Jim – On Saturday they’d never mentioned Viera – by monday they had Viera as a virtual cert for NUFC. All bollocks. I agree with Prem above.

      (Quote)

  14. Jim – also, how many players have the same journos linked us with, only for it never to come off. I saw a headline the other day reading ‘Inter leading the chase for toon target Daniel Wass’ – I don’t believe he’s ever been an actual target of ours!!. But you’ll get some fans going ‘well there’s another one gone’ and being pissed off with the club because of bullshit links with players

      (Quote)

  15. I don’t doubt Journos are itk about many clubs, but not ours. Our lot never sign anyone so it has to be made up 😉

Thanks Shamrock by the way. 🙂

The above is an example of much more credible journalism. The BBC claim to have spoken directly to AC Milan before running this story, claiming Inzaghi will be sacked. It has not happened yet, but I believe it will – because the story actually quotes the club; The Serie A side told BBC Sport that Inzaghi, 41, will “not be in charge of the team next season”.

That’s the difference between all the BS above and proper reporting in terms of comings and goings.

  22. Leave our blog alone you scallywags!

In Ed’s defence he usually just posts
what’s in the press that day.

    And we all argue underneath.

I don’t think he ever claims to have inside information or anything like that.

      (Quote)

  23. Belfast – I don’t think Shamrock was suggesting Ed claimed to have inside knowledge. I think his point was that these bullshit links & rumours gather pace because of throwing posts like that up. It’s like the more people see it, the more believable it seems.

      (Quote)

  24. Spot on Sharpy.

    Belfast, in fairness headlines like;

http://www.nufcblog.com/2015/05/29/newcastle-interested-in-double-swoop-for-marseilles-players/ do nothing to help your blogs cause in an argument like this. The story is given a headline ‘Newcastle interested in double swoop for Marseilles players’.

Absolutely no source is quoted to back up this bold headline, other than Ed’s/the writer’s opinion. The headline is misleading and gives the reader the impression that the writer knows something that the reader does not.

Like Sharpy says: ‘these bullshit links & rumours gather pace because of throwing posts like that up. It’s like the more people see it, the more believable it seems.’

There is nothing of any substance in any of that story. It’s completely made up!

      (Quote)

  25. lads and lasses, let ed’s blog post what they want.
for informed opinion, this is the blog to come to. it doesn’t mean that ed’s blog is wrong

  26. I think it’s obvious what Shamrock is saying isn’t it?. Basically that every transfer window is one long Chinese whisper session.

      (Quote)

  27. That’s right Kim – by the end of this window we should have about 3 full squads of players firmly linked to us by various outlets, with absolutely no quote from anybody even remotely close to any of the affected parties. 😛

      (Quote)

  28. There will be plenty of players seen at Newcastle airport and lots of stuff from folk who’s brother/sister knows a bloke who’s mate sweeps up at St James and overheard……………………………………………zzzzzzzzzzzzzz oops I almost gave a **** there for a minute 😉

      (Quote)

  29. as for transfer rumours dint really take much notice til they there in front of the flashing cameras 🙄

      (Quote)

  30. Eds are the most misleading on news now. I totally skip his links now as they’re normally full of *****. I admire his passion for his blog and the toon but his headlines are straight from the daily sport

      (Quote)

  31. according to german media fc shalke 04 will lose both the main centre halves in the summer (a tad unfortunate because they are also looking for a trainer having bladdered di matteo after one season). Dominic Howedes, canny player by the way, to aresenawl for 17 million euros, and heres the good bit, joel matip whos contract runs out in 2016 to the toon for 14 million euros. fair enough prices actually, since they are both internationals and have regularly played champions league football. i’ve changed my mind, get matip in. he’s good on the ball and can also head the freaking thing. him and lascelles would form an exciting, youthful and athletic pairing.

      (Quote)

  32. Yes I think Ed is guilty of repeating some of the bullshit rumours but I don’t think he has an agenda to trick people into coming onto his site like all those dodgy websites do.

And leave my hairy chest alone ya kernts. It’s better looking than Troy Stavers chest like. 😉

      (Quote)

  33. Belfast, yiv got a chest like a spuggy man. git back on ed’s blog instead of comin ower hear hoying yer weight aboot 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  34. BELFAST
stick ya shirt on so we can see ya 😯 now if ya want to see a proper chest il take me shirt off 😆

      (Quote)

  35. Belfast – I don’t think Shamrock was accusing him of that either mate. I think it’s just his way of getting regular articles up for you to post on. I know articles on here aren’t as frequent, but I honestly think they are better, well written and more diverse.

      (Quote)

  36. Munich – I knew given time you’d come round to my way of thinking on Matip mate 😉

      (Quote)

  37. I would actually say there is a distinct lack of rumours compared to usual. We are normally linked with about 100 players by now.

Doesn’t one of the blogs do a complete summary of transfer links – I cannot remember which one?

      (Quote)

  38. Also, I think the way we do business means we will be linked with every decent Free Agent out there whether we have a chance at getting them or not. Next up will be players with a year left to run if the papers get a sniff that contract negotiations are not in process.

      (Quote)

  39. To add to my point @53. It is just the journalists being lazy as Shamrock says. They have no information and it is total speculation, but is based on our transfer policy – not a total shot in the dark then, but probably not worthy of a story either.

      (Quote)

  40. I hate this transfer rumour period. I take no notice of any of it.

I get amazed at some on here who thrive on it. I’m assuming they are young in age and dreamers.

If they aren’t, then they need a good shake and I worry there are people walking around the community without supervision.

I’m still not convinced McLaren will get the gig. I still believe Carver will get it. Mock my words.

      (Quote)

  41. the krul and collo rumours krul wont be going anywere but hopefully collo is.2nd rumour 21 million seems alot to be pulling out of his wallet and will believe it when i see it,3rd rumour Micah Richards he aint big enough for a centre back at 5 foot 11 and in case some1 missed it we got owned in the air last season add his wages to it and thats to much for a back up player as janmatt would still be my no 1 right back so wont happen.James Chester seems a lot of money for a relegated cb to me but dont no much about him . Mike Williamson will be leaveing is sure of that.Daniel WASS wont happen we need english players which is why i think the might bring Kieran Tripper in as cover at right back and the janmatt rumour of leaveing wont happen.

      (Quote)

  42. I don’t understand how people think we can get rid of Coloccini. He is on a massive contract with one year left that no-one else will match or come close to. Then he is free to do what he really wants and go back to Argentina. The only other option would be to pay him off with a large chunk of the remainder so he can leave now.

Some in the premier league may see him as still viable but I bet he would get no more than a 2 year contract and both years combined would only equal 1 year at NUFC, so why would he go? He is on 3.5 mil so why would he go now?

      (Quote)

  43. <<<<<<<<<<< would just pay off his contract meself blooming liabilty he is

      (Quote)

  44. At least Coloccini has been useful even though he has declined (that could be because he didn’t have a decent partner). Remember Marceleno, he stayed and never played. There was the notorious case of Winston Bogarde at Chelsea where they made it plain they didn’t want him but he was on such big money he just marked time and picked up his pay cheque for about 4 years. These players that have aged, declined or were overrated just don’t give up their big contracts.

  50. yeah i no he was in the team of the year thats season and him and taylor took the credit when it should of been krul 2 3 and 4 major saves a game he was having to make that little fact should of been enough to get rid

      (Quote)

  51. This may sound stupid but I think someone may take a flier on Taylor. He is still young enough – just – and if he can prove his fitness he may be worth a punt. His earlier injuries that kept him out were 2 dislocated shoulders and a broken jaw which are unlikely to reoccur. I think the last ones were torn hamstring and ruptured achilles, both serious but neither reoccured – yet. On a free, maybe Pardew would risk it?

And this is the blog where people apparently make intelligent comments 😆 😆 😆
