Press’n our buttons

Just a quick post to keep things ticking over. I guess most of the conversations on here at the moment revolves around what the press has to speculate about on any given day. So please feel free to join in the melee and see what comes out of it once things become a little clearer (We actually sign someone)

Those new players are around here somewhere!

  1. Still no fat lady, bookies have been wrong many times, but I’ve reckoned on WHU being the likely destination for the lad recently.
Gets to stay in London and not sit on the bench like at Chelsea.
Nice to see a player who values play over pay though.

  2. You Yew, It’ll have to be his agent doing the deal cause Austin is away on his stag do at the moment.

  3. Mark Douglas stated today he’d heard that positive sounds were being made by the Austin camp about joining us.
Feckin agents and their sly cunning tactics.
Like I said before, the quicker he joins whichever club the better for everybody.

  4. You yew, the Austin thing is a total drag now isn’t it, the constant is he or isn’t he coming has actually put me right off the guy now. Don’t think it was ever a goer to be fair. Rather have Remy back but thought Hammers were in for him 😕

  5. I’ll be honest, I’d still love to see the lad here. I actually think we’re an ideal pairing and he’d be an absolute success here.
But yeh, if he isn’t coming then the sooner everyone knows the sooner all the inevitable bitching about it will be done and dusted and we can move on to attainable targets.
At the end of the day we’ll get who we’ll get, so let’s just get them in nice and early so Steve has a fighting chance of implementing his ideas in time for a fairly difficult baptism as far as fixtures are concerned.

  6. So Round says no. Whose 4th choice assistant then? Maybe John Carver will be interested?

  7. Kimtoon: West Ham have plenty of money since they were basically gifted a 702 million stadium. Their part of the cost, 15 mil plus 2.5 mil a year rent. I really don’t understand how this subsidy can be justified. It puts them way ahead of other teams in terms of finances. I would be livid if I was an Arsenal or Spurs fan. And the smaller teams like QPR and Palace have to make their own renovations.

I understand that the stadium needed to be preserved to benefit that part of London. But, have West Ham pay a going rate. I think the latest cost to make it suitable for football is about 250 mil. No wonder they can bid for Charlie Austin.

I have never really seen anyone explain why they got it so cheap. I know this is one of your pet peeves but it really does put teams like ourselves, Spurs and Villa at a disadvantage. FFS, can you remember the Leazes was a building site for years because NUFC didn’t have the money to do the construction. And now WH are basically gifted a state of the art stadium

  8. Here’s another fun fact about what a gift WH are getting, Wembley cost 780 mil and Arsenal’s Emerites cost 380. Now WH get a gift of 701 mil stadium, no wonder the porn merchants always look so smug.

  9. Eric, they pleaded poverty and that £15m was all they could afford yet today David Gold happily tells the mirror that they intend to take full advantage of the increase in ticket revenues to take on the top clubs.

      (Quote)

  10. It may not seem relevant, but I think it is if because of a gift from the Government they can outbid us for one of our targets. No other team got it, so it is unfair and they are a much more attractive proposition than they were.

They’ll probably sign Bas Dost next 🙂

  13. Eric, a bit late to comment on WHU and the porn merchant looking smug.
He knows the best porn videos are now produced by footballers, he just can’t fail. Mind you I’d like to see Karen Brady in one.

  16. its mad ice,the club are constantly low balling.
thats why mcclaren carnt get no staff, and we will end up with hardly no new faces come kick off.

      (Quote)

  17. HIMAN thing is mate 5mil is bloody cheap,if he hadn’t been on a free the fee would be in the range of 12/15 mil,so 5mil is for nowt

      (Quote)

  18. Was the same with Richards we could have a good defender good attacker for 9 mil, cheap skate jabba, where could we get two players like that for 9mil,makes you bloody sick

  19. We must be a proper basket case of a club now.
When Swansea are a better proposition than NUFC something is very wrong.
We can forget seeing any great players in black and white for the foreseeable future as we won’t pay their wages and haggle the fees.
The funny thing is fatty has dug himself into a hole with that statement.
There is no way out without a change in direction.

It’s time he modernised the fleet I reckon

  21. Well it seems up to now there has been no change at the club, just more of the same **** we have had to put up with for yrs.
I cant believe Schteve hasn’t even got his back room team sorted yet.

  22. Probably because he knows if he shows interest, then the Mighty Swansea will snap him up within days.

  23. so now theres talk that eric steele(gk coach)has knocked us back.
how long will mcclaren put up with this, not long is my guess.

  24. mickey mouse club with carr and moncur managing the recruitment and ebeneezer holding the purse strings. a massive tv deal agreed with the clubs, the toon getting tens of millions just for turning up, and we’re shopping at poundstretchers and wondering why no-one else is interested.
as usual the fans will suffer whereas charnley is doing just as his boss requested, spend nowt. they have also saved millions by shelving the much vaunted new academy building. there again why waste money when stamfordham road playing fields and northumberlNd street baths are available, and all within a 10k radius of the ground. brilliant stuff, well done “the footballing board”.

      (Quote)

  25. that bloke cheik tiote could be a useful player. he does still play for us doesn’t he ?
the “football board” are working overtime trying to retain the group of players that we have already, they have had no time to look at new players coming in. the wheels are coming off the toon bus already…. still, january is traditionally the toon panic buy transfer window. no need to panic, the squad were comfortably mid table before pardew left and safe hands john carver took us on a downward spiral.

      (Quote)

  26. Have signed anybody yet? Well it’s still early but I bet we have the coaches sorted by now? Oh well, not to worry. There’s a massive two weeks until pre season starts.

      (Quote)

  27. Latest transfer news appearing in the newspapers, we are actually challenging with other top clubs for quality players.
Can’t believe it, we don’t stand a chance of course because Villa, Sunderland, Leicester, C Palace and WHU are a much more attractive proposition to Newcastle.
We are going to be left fighting for the scraps as Newcastle prove once again we have no ambition.

      (Quote)

  28. I saw Spurs signed Trippier from Burnley on a 5 year deal. Our left back position was a bit of a problem and of course we sold our only experienced player in January (Santon). Weren’t we supposed to be in for Trippier?

      (Quote)

  29. I read somewhere that the PL has only 35% English players. So, now if our stated aim is to recruit an English spine wouldn’t it be obvious that we will be shopping in a limited market with massive competition? Just like we are seeing with every English target we are supposedly after.

There is the remaining 65% of foreigners in the PL and of course the rest of the world. I have been watching the Copa America and I don’t know why we never get any South Americans anymore – a lot play in Europe so our “scouts” should be aware of them. Plus, do they not have TVs and the internet, all the games are live on BEin sport. Cardiff got Gary Medal FFS.

If we are basically spinning our wheels when going after English targets because we will not pay the going rate then wouldn’t Carr’s and Charnley’s energy be better spent doing other things. Like going to the cricket in Charnley’s case (Stuart saw him there and gave him a Pardew kiss) 🙂

  30. Carver said the summer was going to be spend spend spend. He told the fan’s you won’t believe what players we are going after. Carver doesn’t speak BS.

  31. Our club has become a third rate club in players mind even coaches what nowt to do with us,is there anything left jabba can do to us

      (Quote)

  32. Still plenty of time boys. As long as we start the season well equipped then it’s pointless worrying if we’ve signed players at this point.

Mind, I never get this idea of the transfer window finishing at the end of august. Why is it not tge day before the season starts?

      (Quote)

  33. Icedog from now on Ashley said we would be making our own luck. I don’t think the club will go after the obvious targets because everyone else wants them. Austin is a red herring in my opinion but I am really unsure about who we will have at the start of the season.

  34. Just checking the ins & outs of premier clubs. There’s not much movement anywhere.

  35. Eric@272
There are restrictions on non EU players in the English football leagues.
A player from South America can only get a work permit to play here if they have played in 75% of internationals for their Country in the previous two years.
The best of those players are usually signed up much earlier by European clubs where there is no such restriction.

  36. Does any club want to take Obertan and Williamson off our hands ? Dam good players that will be sadly missed by the toon faithful. Would anyone start me at 4 million for the two.

      (Quote)

  37. Thanks sidekick I didn’t know that. It does explain a lot. I always wondered why there were so few South Americans coming directly to the PL. I had thought it was part a language thing and part more extensive scouting networks for the Spanish and Portuguese teams in South America.

      (Quote)

  38. Icedog I think you’re right mate 🙂 Only at Newcastle we pay high wages for **** players that we can’t get rid off 🙂

  42. has anyone else been watching the u21s european championships ? what i have seen of danny ings he has been minging.. today against sweden he was totaly anonymous…alongside the other great white hope harry kane…
maybe the toon are doing the right thing buying foreigners…cheaper perhaps..?..oh hang on, we’re gonna buy british, and recruit bairns from a 10k radius of sjp to train at the new academy following the swansea model…or was it villa. is mcclaren going to train them alone ? happy days 🙂

  43. So we should sign English players because they have a bit of grit! Look how well the national team has done on the world stage the past 30 years! 😆 😆
Please enough of the plucky British grit comments, I have seen nothing to suggest that English players are more determined than any other nationality!

  44. I agree Aussie
But the rules are the rules. 8 home grown in a 25 man squad.
And besides, this has come from the regime, not the fans.
Once again the clueless twats have let the cat out of the bag, by announcing their plans to all and sundry.
We will sign a few players, but none of the ones we are currently linked with.
Plus, if we can’t sell off the less glamorous ones we are currently awash with, then how can we hope to replace them. The squad can only be a certain size.
The best thing would be to bring in some decent coaches to bring through the youngsters we already have on our books. Beardsley and co are clearly failing here too.
I can see Armstrong being our new striker for the 1st team, whether he is good enough or not.

      (Quote)

  45. Munich – I agree England haven’t started well at all, but it looks a really strong squad. I’ve been impressed with Jesse Lingard who we’ve been linked with, and I’d take young Garbutt on a free at LB as well.
Man Utd look to have given up on Nick Powell as well. He had a quiet year last year but he’s only 21 and looked a good attacking midfielder/second striker – couple of million should get him. There’s 3 of our English quota needed.

      (Quote)

  46. I would also save £15m and sack to Austin deal off. It appears that he’d rather stay in London. Move on and focus on Das Boot. Get him & John Guidetti on a free who is a similar type forward as Austin anyway but can score freekicks for fun.

  47. Great to see the Matildas beat Brazil at the women’s world cup. Of the final 8 there are 3 from the Asian Confed, add in the US and that makes it 50% non-Euro.

It’s a sign of things to come. 😆

    … I bet

      (Quote)

  48. Oh, I forgot Canada 😳

And, well, Japan haven’t won yet so double 😳

Er, and nor have the US, so triple 😳 but even if they lose it’ll be a non-Euro that gets through.
