Press’n our buttons

Just a quick post to keep things ticking over. I guess most of the conversations on here at the moment revolves around what the press has to speculate about on any given day. So please feel free to join in the melee and see what comes out of it once things become a little clearer (We actually sign someone)

Those new players are around here somewhere!

  1. you can imagine the players looking in and asking jc or stoney off the record, well how is it at the toon ? well its a great club, but you have to bring your own sarneys and wash your own strips, but you play in front of 40000 of the loyalest fans every other weekend at the sports direct ooops st james’ park. plus you don’t tire cos they are never involved in cups or europe. its a doddle really.

  2. Sharpy – are you saying Austin no longer represents value for money 😛
Along the same lines as Ayew etc.
For me, our problem isn’t so much the strikers, but the supply of the ball to them.
We desperately need wingers who can cross a ball and someone who can take free kicks and corners.
It seems madness to play a lone striker with a midfield that fails to support him.

  4. Boots – Not saying Austin isn’t value for money, just saying that if the bloke doesn’t want to move away from London then it’s not worth pursuing. We had a similar issue with Parker who left coz he was desperate to get back to London.
As for Ayew, coz I saw him mentioned the other day too. He was supposedly a transfer target of Liverpool & Spurs as well, yet they also didn’t go for him either. Just coz us fans see him as a good option, doesn’t mean he is.
I agree with you though, widemen are key for any forwards we have.

  6. It’s not looking good at all to be honest. I could understand if we hadn’t signed a players there are many things that make up a player deal but coaching staff? If we haven’t had any movement at all by the end of this week I will start to think we’re f**ked!

I just wonder if coaches and players are thinking twice due to the poor PR that seems to follow the club around? Certainly the media outlets who aren’t preferred are starting to get their claws out and it’s a fight we can’t win.

  7. TAE@303, to me it makes the most sense of all the links mate. Good coach, upwardly mobile club with ambition and very local to his residence. So unless he wants the bright lights of London I would say Saints are the best fit.

  9. When I wrote the last article I imagined that we needed three Strikers who could lead the line, one of whom would start with a second striker, or attacking midfielder in support. The three I had in mind were Bas Dost (or possibly Charlie Austin, with a cheap backup ie Robert Beric and keeping Cisse. However things keep moving, Charlie Austin continues to look unlikely, and Cisse may be off, possibly in a swop with Ba if some papers are not too drunk. Andy Carroll remains a cheap alternative for the second. No disrespect Troy Deeney or some of the others mentioned but they don’t inspire. Still Bost, Ba & Carroll would not be too bad.

  11. sharpster, the issue of convincing players to come to the cold north has always been an issue. if you haven’t a magnet like kevin keegan then you need to use other means, invariably more money. what else do the toon have as a selling point, the chance to play for steve mcclaren, bob moncur and lee charnley ? the chance to end your carrier with zero medals on the mantlepiece ? the only selling point we have is the old “we can sell you on in 2-3 years to bigger club…. we’ve tried that one a few timss, and sissoko is beginning to realise that it wasn’t like it said in the brochure at nufc. jonas, raylor, carver, pardew, round, stoney…they are all seasoned pros with some standing in english football. they are probably giving nufc a glowing endorcement of that i’m sure. hats off to ashley for creating a poisened chalice of a football club, then giving it gtf off the board to go and count his money, leaving the sd pub team in the competent hands of lee charnley and bob moncur, with that nice mr mcclaren realising that he has muffed it again by making the wrong decision to join the toon…

i dint think you being negative, the club has to give the toonarmy something to get exicited about 😉 ,and they seem to be doing a very poor job so far 🙁

  13. stuart79@36 ashley and the club can’t keep giving it large, treating people badly and not expect the law of karma to bite them on the **** ? blackpool are the only club vying with nufc to be vilified into the 3rd division. the media have the claws into ashley regarding rangers, nufc et al. ashley has beat a hasty retreat from the foot alling side of things, having carried out his famous interview to leave everyone in no doubt that mr charnley and his football board will lead those delusional geordies to salvation and champions league glory.
