  1. Prem, that is unfair, it is not an opportunity at all, well least, it isn’t for me. I just happen to believe we all have a right to say and read what we like. I do not want my news censored, be it political or football news it’s that simple really. I also realise most organisations have PR dept, it’s just a pity that ours is pretty inept.

a question and answer session after the game has nothing what so ever to do with footie, and if the press wernt trying to rock the boat at every chance they get this would not be happening would it and as prem said at 146 all big companys do it,so its nothing new in that respect

  3. unless you guys work for the press i dint see what all the hoo ha is about 🙄

  4. Sharpy, Nufc, is a business with paying customers (the fans) and are accountable to us, that’s not that different from elected politicians really. As for increased communication with the fans, it’s been on their terms only.

the press has being have ing a pop at us for a lot of years now or aint ya noticed that

  6. has fatboy done anything illegal by baning the press no ,in a court of law the press would lose 😉

  7. TAE, that old chestnut 😆 Ask any fan of any club and they will say the press hate us and have it in for us. Fact is as a club we constantly or Mike constantly makes decisions that shoot us in the foot and make us look silly or a laughing stock. How is that the fault of the press?

      (Quote)

  8. Kim – it’s totally different!. How much say or influence did you as a fan have on Steve McClaren as head coach?!. A lot less than you would have had on who your local politician is that’s for sure.
Most businesses have paying customers, that doesn’t mean I expect or demand regular communication from Northumbrian Water, British Gas or BT.

      (Quote)

  9. Gotta laugh when people start saying the press are victims! Deary me…. 😆

      (Quote)

  10. Sharpy, if you’re unhappy with Gas and BT you can change suppliers. With the Toon we are stuck with the owner, held to ransom, the least he can do is be honest with his paying customers. I do not see the how you wouldn’t want to know what’s really happening at the club. Are you happy being left in the dark about possible dressing room unrest for instance? What if a manager gets stacks of flack when the reality is the players are to blame?

      (Quote)

  11. TAE@163 I never said they did. My argument is not about the press being ‘victims’ Aussie, it’s about free speech.

      (Quote)

  12. most of the press would sell there grannys for a scoop, hardly the hard done by if you ask me 😆

      (Quote)

  13. Absolutely, Kim! Spot on! Will papers only report positive things about the club in the future for fear of being banned? Is that what the club want? Of course they do.

So when things like not paying the living wage goes on at the club or there’s a rift in the camp that’s effecting the performances and results do the supporters not have a right to know that? Controlling the media means the club can keep things like that out of the supporters way. It’s wrong!

      (Quote)

  14. be carefull what you wish for with freedom of speech look at some of the muslem prist shouitng kill the infidel 😆 😆 😆

  15. For me the current regime concentrates far too much on the small details, wastes time and energy banning media outlets, cancelling half time pies for journos, cancelling a few free tickets for players, dreaming up elaborate bonus schemes, weird new strips and yet they can’t find a half decent sponsor or bloody centre back!

TDS is just winding you all up anyway – nobody is that daft.

  16. Georgio, the voice of reason, well said.

    TAE@171, blimey, don’t even go there. 😆

I’m away, got to visit Dad, laters.

  17. Sharpy – Amazed you are happy for NUFC to act like the Nazi Party! In fact I’m staggered! You think it’s ok for the club to ban people for writing true stories but you think it’s wrong when papers write false stories.

Maybe you should live in Syria at the moment – I reckon you’d be quite happy there.

I’m actually totally disgusted in your view here! Without freedom of speech or freedom of expression we are a muzzled state no better than Hitlers idealisms and that’s not what millions of people died for. I can only assume if NUFC can act like that you’d be happy for a country to act like that. Principles are exactly the same.

  19. but compareing fatboy to 1 of the biggest mass killers of all time is a tad on the strong side Stu 😆

      (Quote)

  20. That’s because it’s not been in the papers… You see, controlling the media means you can do whatever you want!

  22. I’ve got to go out but if anybody fancies putting together a n impartial article seeking people’s views on the press situation, I’ll post it on my return in about 3 hours together with a pole so we can gauge the wider public opinion on the matter? If not, I’ll throw something together later.

      (Quote)

  23. It’s the timing of it that makes me question the motive. It’s a non footballing question, so why have they left it to the first press conference before our first game of the season.
Also, channel 4 clearly weren’t one of the banned media outlets as they were going to be there – so why are they wanting to ask why a newspaper journo has been banned? – why do they care?!.

They knew exactly what response they would get from NUFC and that was why they planned to ask the question – to stir up ****, not to resolve a situation or get answers as the question could be asked at any time – and it’s got nowt to do with channel 4.

      (Quote)

  24. Stuart you generally shout down anyone here that disagrees with you view on things and yet you push the freedom of speech barrow hard.. freedom of speech as long as it falls in line with your view of things eh?

      (Quote)

  25. Maybe government should pass law that states newspapers can’t write any articles at all which will be negative? That would certainly keep all these filthy, vile child abusers secrets safe wouldn’t it?

I suppose that would be fine with a few on here. Dont print that, even though it exposes child abusers because you’re not allowed and it’s not very nice.

    How pathetic are some people!

      (Quote)

  26. Aussie – I never shout people down! I am always open to debate. I tel people I think they’re wrong. If I didn’t agree with freedom of speech that would pretty much give me nothing to debate. Yet again a pretty ridiculous argument from you. Talk about twisting words to try and fit your agenda. You talk rubbish most of the time, but I would defend your right to spout that **** until the bitter end!

      (Quote)

  27. STUART79
dos that mean every 1 has to stand up and give him a nazi salute when fatboy comes to the game 🙄

      (Quote)

  28. I spout rubbish 😆 have a look at your last posts, you drama queen, you’ve moved from nazis to abused children… you are a worry mate!

  29. Im fairly optimistic about this season we finally have a decent ish line up and bench;

    Krul,
    Janmaat, Colo, Mbemba, Dummett
    Sissoko, Wini, Tiote, Aarons,
    Perez, Mitrovic

Subs; Darlow, Taylor, Hiadara, Colback, Anita, Cabella, De Jong, Cisse

Looking at that we really only need a CB IMO but a speedy playing off the front man striker wouldnt go a miss.

Austin is not the answer and sounds as though we were never interested anyway!

      (Quote)

  30. You can’t see the link, Aussie. That’s a worry!

If someone in a high position who wielded power stopped a newspaper from reporting about something they did wrong you think that would be ok do you?

      (Quote)

  31. Looking back at my post im even more excited! 😀

We have options from the bench at last De Jong, Cisse and Cabella are all capable of making an impact.

One fairly decent CB and I think we could actually push top 8. A Shawcross would be perfect but that will never happen unfortunately 😕

      (Quote)

  32. Ime with STUART all the way, freedom of speech free press, people have fought for it,would hate to think where we be without it

      (Quote)

  33. To throw a bit of clarity onto the situation. At no point have NUFC or channel 4 confirmed that they have been banned from attending press conferences. They were asked not to attend Thursday’s press conference if they intended to ask the question about media bans – which to my knowledge extends as far as only Luke Edwards for a piece he wrote about dressing room unrest.

      (Quote)

  34. Has the club banned all forms of media or just a particular outlet or two?
In typical fashion you choose the worst case senario to argue a simple point. This over dramatic behavior only serves to embarrass you and I am bringing this to your attention because I am simply worried about you!

      (Quote)

  35. Ice – nobodies against freedom of speech – that’s Stu dramatising things.

The point I go back to is – the question could be asked at any time. Why just before our first game. Why is a TV channel asking about the banning of newspaper journos?.

My answer, or my belief – bad blood between channel 4 and Mike Ashley over the documentary they done on Sports Direct.

      (Quote)

  36. Ice – they will not be allowed to attend that press conference if they intend to ask that question – that’s not banning them for the season or out like that.

      (Quote)

  37. Come on Aussie – you’re worried about Stuart?

I’m with Stu in that press freedom is a hugely important right. But really the actions of the regime tend to be transparent and miss the important things entirely. It’s that Bishop bloke at the bottom of all PR.

      (Quote)

  38. Its funny that we all as NUFC fans hate the press for their mindless naive uneducated dross that is printed just to grate on us yet we are all crying for freedom of speech.

The press have far too much freedom that 99% of their reporting is complete fabrication or just laugable!

      (Quote)

  39. Not being funny but we have had more interaction with NUFC recently more than we ever had under Pards.

Luke Edwards from the telegraph is just a useless reporter, bitter that his completely fabricated articles got caught out by NUFC.

    Poor old Luke 🙄

      (Quote)

  40. That question could have sent to the person who can answer it. LC at any time. Why bring it up to the manager who does not control such things at a pre-match conference. They are not Banning the media, or preventing questions being asked. They are asking the media to go through the channels. Big deal. Nazis my ****.

      (Quote)

  41. I want to know to what extent this ban is?.

People are shouting on about Nazi parties & freedom of speech – but who exactly is banned?. I know of Luke Edwards, and I know that C4 have been asked not to attend if they intend on asking that question – but can attend if they don’t and have not been banned from future press conferences.

So can someone who finds it so outrageous please tell me who is banned and for how long?.

      (Quote)

  42. The club banned the Daily Mail a couple of years ago. They banned the Chronicle and Journal for over a year not so long ago add that to Telegraph then it’s a pretty pathetic attempt of muzzling the press. That is against the traditions of this country. It’s weak and pathetic and is generally for the people with something to hide.

      (Quote)

  43. People with something to hide – in the week the club held an open training session where around 15,000 fans were allowed in 😆

I’m pretty sure things at SJP aren’t half as interesting or cloak & dagger as some on here seem to think.

      (Quote)

  44. Aye ok. Your view on this doesn’t surprise me, Prem.

Just hope nothing is ever covered up that effects you. You keep going along oblivious

  47. @Smudge1962: Since 2007 #nufc have, under the ownership of Mike Ashley, banned more journalists than any other club.

    Perfectly acceptable

      (Quote)

  48. Just looking through Newsnow headlines and they are pretty much all about our 4th signing – Ivan Toney. Couldn’t find one about Opression at the hands of NUFC.

      (Quote)

  49. Here’s another with no thought of the social impact these sorts of things have.

Freedom of speech is absolutely a right of the common man; except when it impacts on what Mike Ashley is trying to do at NUFC.

Dangerous world we live in with opinions so dark and prehistoric where people shouldn’t be allowed to write articles of fact or indeed fiction for fear of having their career ruined.

    Disgusting

      (Quote)

  50. I have heard it all now, Stu, “I never shout people down! I am always open to debate”.

You consistently label and respond to people’s views as being rubbish, pathetic and ridiculous – which is shouting people down – and you consistently ignore reasoned argument that doesn’t sit well with your own reasoned argument, and ridicule people’s opinions. That is dictatorial behavior. You quite often do not debate somebody’s point and do exactly what you were accusing Aussie of :”twisting words to try and fit your agenda”. When a debate doesn’t fit your outlook that is exactly what you do, you twist words to fit your agenda.

    Them be facts, Stu.

You could do with a little more self-awareness yourself, mate.

A real debate about press freedom, well, I will engage in that another day.

      (Quote)

  51. You’ve just completely and utterly missed the point, Lionel. As per…

I do not dictate at all. I disagree with people and call them idiots – sure I do, and that’s because I get frustrated with people not seeing the reality. But I certainly DO NOT and NEVER WILL have a go at anybody for actually having an opinion! It is their right. Whether I agree is a completely different argument as well you know.

But you, Lionel, like many others are frustrated with me because I happen to emphasis my points hard and do not give in during an argument. But probably your biggest bug bare is I am usually always proved correct in the end.

Have a go at me by all means for my opinions, but please, never have a go at me for oppressing people and not allowing anybody to have an opinion!
