Are we being bullied?

......If you have the stomach for it.......
……If you have the stomach for it…….
Ater this weekends dismal offering from our players it seems the whole of football is on our case. Pundits, press, media and ex pro’s have wasted precious little time in sticking the boot in to just about every aspect of the club.
Now I’m no Mike Ashley fan as you know, but the bloke must be tearing his hair out at what he’s seeing right now.

He has intrusted his board to spend the clubs money and equip us with the personal to right the sinking ship that was Newcastle united last season. The problem is, it was always going to take a lot more than £50m to put us back on track due to the fact other teams are so far ahead already and have strengthened in the summer, we are in effect playing catch up. The board should be aware of this and should of made it clear to him that a massive clear out was in order and some real Premier League experienced players HAD to come in.

The fact that this hasn’t been pressed home to Mike is either negligence on their collective parts or they are towing the party line. Maybe Mike Ashley is dead set on this young one for the future policy we have. Still I can’t help feeling, if the collective board all made it clear it could send us down because of lack of on field experience ; you would think being an astute business man he’d pay heed to such advice.

Well we have what we have now, until january anyway, given this situation we must stick with the manager and players until the next window. There has been talk of dressing room problems with one or two players, isn’t there always? If true they must be dropped from the first team and kept away from them and put in the reserves to rot until they can be sold. We have the whole football world on our backs we don’t need to have our own players and fans turning on each other, not 6 games into the season.

The amount of vitriol from ex pro’s, pundits and the media is looking like bullying now and we must unite to fend them off in my opinion. Ofcourse there is an argument that says this is what happens when you ban various press outlets and have prefered media partners . Frankly there is no excuse for some of the over the top slating of the club this week end. Yes we have young unexperienced players who may or may not make the grade but to write them off in the way some have is well over the top.

Right now some aren’t up to it, I would agree but that is not their fault, that blunder lay at the door of our recruitment department, but even Mr Carr may have his hands tied, who knows. Let’s try a different tactic and get behind the team and manager, and let the bully boys do their worst. At least this time they can’t blame the fans when it goes to rats.

  1. eric the former captain of ajax looks really poor to me. ajax are sniggering up thre sleeves having conned so much money out of the toon for de jong and anita. as for thauvin, well you just have to read the reports from thelast 2 years in french football to realise the bloke is massively overrated. yet for both him and mclaren we bided our time until they became available. two massivev errors imo.

  2. Troy: McClaren himself said to judge after 10 games so you are really only holding him to his word? I never wanted him but feel 10 games is not enough. I don’t know what to make of him really. He has been sacked quickly from his last 4 jobs but has also had some success in his career. If we have a shot at Lucien Favre I would sack him because I think we are more likely to be successful with Favre than McClaren.

The one thing I think it SHOULD NOT come down to is compensation. Giving Steve a few million will cost a lot less than relegation. This is a results business and I suppose we will have to see what happens. It hasn’t started well.

I read Ryder’s player ratings with lots of 2 and 3s. That is unusual for him because he is scared of being banned. We must have been really bad.

  3. I don’t think that anyone who is not calling for McLaren’s sacking at this point in time is actually happy with the current state of play.

      (Quote)

  4. This is the big question. When is enough enough? 10 games? 15? 20? When is the point of no return? Personally if we have seen no progress after 15 games I would be seriously considering sacking him but the problem is who would want it who’s better and would Ashley pay decent money to protect his investment and appoint a top manager?

  5. I can see the hierarchy at the club sitting round the table, debriefing the debacle of the situation.
Ashley asks Charnley why have you wasted my £50m?
Charnley states he isn’t the football man and got the deals done that Carr recommended.
They both turn to Carr and ask him why he’s wasted Ashleys money.
Carr states he hasn’t wasted the money. The players he recommended to Charnley are good players, respected throughout Europe.
All three turn to McLaren and ask him why he’s wasting Ashleys money by playing defensive formations and not motivating the players.
McLaren states he came to a club which was a sinking ship which had holes in the hull like a sieve.
The £50m spent filled only half the holes and the ship is still sinking.
He advises everyone to keep paddling until they reach January island where Ashley can open his treasure trove again.
The door flings open and in walks Troy. They all look and face him in the hope he is going to give some direction.
Troy turns his back and shouts before closing banging the shut shut behind him. “Sort this mess out and don’t disturb me until it is. I’ll be doon the pub with the others until you do!”
All 4 look and stare at each other and say in unison, “Troy is the leader of the Reality Train. You know last time, he had it full to the brim and we don’t want that again”.
The boardroom meeting continues behind closed doors!
I’ll give you all a shout when they get back to iz. 😉

  6. Stu
Would you really wait 15 games if we hadn’t won one game?
The question asked at this stage must be, how games without winning would you give him before sacking him.
I would imagine 10 games without a win would leave us well marooned.

      (Quote)

  7. Troy – we have Chelsea & City next, after that is Norwich & Scum – that’s 10 games up. I expect little from the first 2 of those games, but he needs 6 points from the other 2 (which would still only have us 8 pts after 10 games).
If things continued in the same way, when would you say enough mate?

      (Quote)

  8. I think it is how we are losing the games that is more of a concern at the moment.. good question about how long do you give…. what needs to be taken into account is that Lee and co already think they have a top manager….

      (Quote)

  9. Stu – game 10 is the scum. If we’ve had no win in 10, that means we’ve failed to beat them again – if that’s the case then Mc should step down.

      (Quote)

  10. He’s got til the beginning of Dec for me. That’s when I think we look to change him if things are going the same way. That would give a new manager a few weeks to look at the squad & prepare for the window

      (Quote)

  11. Just seen the ‘paper talk’ this morning & some journos still writing that Barca are looking at Thauvin 🙄

      (Quote)

  12. I thought that Carver had set the bar so low that McClaren would have a honeymoon period. It seems I was wrong. Steve is even doing his own Carverisms, he said:

That Wednesday “expected” to win (no they didn’t, they put out a reserve team).
That we should show “blind faith”.
That our players have a “victim mentality”. WTF does that mean.

      (Quote)

  13. Mackem game key yes. Also by then we will have played Norwich and Watford at home and if we’ve lost them both its curtains.

      (Quote)

  14. How often do NEW managers get to survive an appalling start? We are highly likely to have 2 points from 8 games and there is the specter of the Mackem game looming. That could be do or die and decide Steve’s fate as it did for Gullit. If we don’t lose he might get more time. Lose and there will be baying for blood.

New managers usually get the quick hook. I can’t really think of many that survived. Incumbents who had a good year or got promoted usually get a bit more time.

      (Quote)

  15. mclaren’s team is like a reflection of his character – dull & boring.

    it’s time for change now.

make him dof and appoint a new manager – preferably one that is not currently signing on dole with a cv full of holes.

      (Quote)

  16. in a perverse way, its almost impressive that McClaren has somehow managed to make the team even worse than last year

this seasons NUFC n Sunderland are 2 of the worst teams in the entire Prem Lge era

    so far anyway….

      (Quote)

  17. If Steve falls on his sword then they will appoint from within again, Cathro anyone?

For me Carr and the board has a lot of questions to answer, why did we persist in going for Thauvin when he was voted worst player in France?
Why have we spent £13m on a potential hot head, Mitrovic who is also unproven when we could of got Austin for £15m. Lets face it what price £15m if it keeps you in the PL.
Why give Coloccini an extension when he has lost it, we should of snapped Palace hands off and got a decent PL experienced CB in.
Why did we pass on Payet ? was it really cause he’s 28?, if so it’s ridiculous.
Why didn’t we take what leeds offered for Willo? why be greedy when he obviously isn’t wanted, we know that’s true cause we tried to loan him out.
Why are we not learning we can’t rely on keeping an injury free back line after all evidence shows we always have injuries to certain personal. Why are we unable to buy a decent set piece taker?
Fundamental errors all over he shop, it’s like bloody amateur hour with our club.
All managers need the right Tools to work with, look at Pards at CP, his success is down to the players he’s signed, he hasn’t turned into some genius overnight, if that were the case he’d have had more success with us. Remember Steve was part of the successful Man utd set up and Carver was good enough for Sir Bobby. What does that tell us? It tells me we need to ask more questions of our owners and scouts recruitment policy.

      (Quote)

  18. So is the stick from the press still unjustified? Is it f@@k.
We just lost at home to a newly promoted side in a must win game and then lost at home to a bottom half Championship side’s Reserves. Wtf. On top of that we have not won a single PL game.

I said McC would need a bedding in period but in return we should expect to see slow improvements in the style of play and work ethic and mentality of the squad. 2 months in and we have seen no form of improvement from a man that has his own staff and has backed the summer transfer business. It is not going to get any better. For that reason I’ll declare now: Scteve OUT.

      (Quote)

  19. And Carr and Charnley OUT too. For once I won’t blame the Chairman. He has given the board the dosh and they have completely mismanaged the restructuring job. F@@@@@g disgrace.

      (Quote)

  20. Shamrock – who do you think sets the transfer policies?
Is Carr just the chief scout or is it him as a board member who is saying that players like Ayew aren’t value for money?.

For me the blame lies with whoever puts those restrictions in place. Yes Cabella & Thauvin look **** poor, but we have also been heavily linked with players the club opted against. Is Carr putting the players forward for others to make the final decisions, or does he have a larger overall say.

      (Quote)

  21. Has Carr’s picks been a success overall? Answer is absolutely not. Restrictions or not, he has been given big money and has spectacularly failed. He has to go. Other clubs operate within their own structures and restrictions but don’t look a tenth as bad as we do. Get rid of him. Get rid of Charnley. Get rid of McC or go down.

      (Quote)

  22. Sham – he’s got some wrong for sure, but he’s got a lot right with the restrictions he’s had in my opinion. The question for me is have those been imposed on him or are they self placed restrictions.

      (Quote)

  23. I imagine the restrictions are imposed on him as he will have to work within a budget. However, we’d all like more money for better things. The key is having the knack of getting the right kind of quality for the money you have available. I don’t believe many of his recent signings have cut it at all. I’m not impressed with any aspect of the way the club is performing at the moment. Somewhere is a common theme accountable for the consistent theme of failure. Carr has been there for all of it and that is beyond a coincidence. Time for him to go. It’s just pathetic how poor we are performing. Beyond belief.

      (Quote)

  24. Sharpy – Cabaye, Janmaat and Debuchy have been Carrs best picks. Not many for 6 years having a go at it. I agree with the limitations and it’s very difficult for him but why not walk away if he can’t do his job?

      (Quote)

  25. Shamrock, you are of course right, the press have every right to slag us off for our performances. However picking on stuff like what the players wear is pathetic and small fry compared to the far bigger issues needing discussion.

      (Quote)

  26. It is small fry and only a small part of the bigger picture, but I still feel it encapsulates the trend of caring more about their image and fans adulation than actually earning their money and respect.

      (Quote)

  27. Sham – there have been some good ones, but the problem we have is that we have no idea who Carr as head scout has recommended.
Maybe he did put forward Mitrovic, but if he also forward Austin and Gomis at the same time, then that it down to the decision maker.

He identified Cisse & Debuchy, which then took the board 2 windows to land them because they ****** on haggling. Those 2 we eventually landed, but how many others have we missed out on. Yes Carr has been there all of it, but so has these bullshit restrictions and **** decisions.

      (Quote)

  28. Stu – I would add Perez, Sissoko, Tiote (at the time), Ba and Cisse to your list. Cisse may not be looking great now but for £9m he’s scored goals.
As for why didn’t he walk, it was a question asked of Pardew many a time – who knows mate.

      (Quote)

  29. Seems to me all the problems lie with McClaren. The formation and selections. Nobody on the pitch seems to understand where they’re playing or can’t play there anyway. For an experienced guy he must have seen that players like Obertan, De Jong, Willo are no bloody good at all. For god’s sake Mbemba at left back? The dutch player of the year looks totally lost and bemused. What is he being asked or told to do?
McClaren should go on holiday and let Cathro have a go. 👿

i’m new to the forum but felt i had to post to back you on this one as this is how ive felt for some time now.its bullying plain and simple from the english media and its all down to the media partners stance by the club.aston villa spent more money than us in the summer but is there any talk about their pathetic effort this season?no not a word.i would tell the club to stick with the media ban and i think all supporters should get behind mc claren and let him sort this mess out cause he’s more than capable of managing the club.drop sissoko tiote and any diissenting players into the reerves and draw a line under this mess.
newcastle as a club are bigger than richardson edwards and all the english media and the club should show that their constant bullying wont get their intended result.
on another point id like shearer rob lee and any other former players to shut up with their constant critisism and using this “voice of the fans” bullshit to do it.shearer had his chance and relegated the club so please be quiet alan.

  34. Sharpy – Perez was a Pardew signing and Ba was from West Ham so I can’t give credit to Carr for that one. I am not too sure about Cisse either. How many goals has he scored in 4 seasons?

Sissoko was a good buy because he only cost £1.2m – I don’t rate him as a good player I am afraid. He would be first out the door! As for Tiote?? He had one good season and then he has been pathetic every season since.

      (Quote)

  35. Stuart we are going down this season and that’s a fact. The table doesn’t lie and our player’s have no fight in them. We can’t even beat the like’s of Watford or Sheffield wednesday at home. Lee will probably get a nice compensation packet same as McClaren so it’s not going to hurt there pocket. Just like the player’s ridiculous wages for getting nailed every week.

      (Quote)

  36. The clubs a total mess and it’s the season ticket holders I truely feel sorry for. As if they haven’t suffered enough all ready. Still going down will be a chance to brit the team up a bit.

  37. So Klopp has told Sky Sports he would cut short his sabatical for the right job in the PL. Counts us out then…

      (Quote)

  38. Kim Being wise after the event of last night, no, we are not being bullied. At least we are getting what we deserve. I still think our formation does nothing to encourage attacking play and McLaren is being too negative.

      (Quote)

  39. Stu – how was Perez a Pardew signing?. Cisse has scored 35 in 99 games, so a 1 in 3 CF for £9m is good signing nowadays mate.

I don’t think Klopp would answer the phone to us I’m afraid. More likely ‘Arry or Nigel Pearson from those currently out of work.

      (Quote)

  40. Ice – I hope not mate. I would that is the single plus point so far this season – in that we haven’t been destroyed my anyone or looked like getting destroyed by any of the teams we’ve played so far. We’ve never looked like winning any either mind – but a spanking against Chelsea could be ‘no way back’ stuff I reckon.

      (Quote)

  41. Sharpy – three hours wasted. The last 3 seasons Cisse has averaged 7 goals and been rubbish at everything else.
I’m totally at a loss as far as Steve goes. The selection always looks wrong and nobody seems to know what to do. Everyone says he’s a really good coach. Fine – just don’t let him pick the team or decide the formation.

      (Quote)

  42. Sharpy – I am afraid I’m with Georgio on Cisse. His first half season was good, his second season was pathetic and last season was ok. I would expect a £9m striker to score at least 10 every season.

As for Klopp, well of course he’s not going to come to us but it’s what I would do. But yes, I’m sure he’d give Harry a call if he loses his rag.

      (Quote)

  43. I saw press reports saying that Perez was recommended to Pardew and the board took a punt because it wasn’t a lot of money. Don’t think Carr found him. Spain isn’t exactly his area is it…

      (Quote)

  44. KIM I know what you mean but we cannot defend and we cannot attack to ease the defenders and Chelsea are a top team that imo cut us to bits party time for them ime afraid

  47. Stu, That doesn’t surprise me tbh, I don’t see Mike sacking Steve, after all he stood by Pards despite awful runs and high score hammerings .

  48. Fair play to Mick Lowes the BBC Newcastle commentator. He has completely laid into the half bakes running the club.

      (Quote)

  49. I don’t understand why Aarons has been offered out on loan. Wouldn’t a great coach want to work with a player who is on the fringes of the first team, especially when we have so many injuries?

      (Quote)

  50. Stuart: what do you mean fair play to Lowes? He is joining a chorus of everybody in the media. The Chronicle have even turned.

      (Quote)

  51. After Man City we have the international break. So, we have almost a month before we play Norwich and can get some players fit. For what it is worth.

      (Quote)

  52. I see the papers always saying we have plenty of Number 10s. We don’t play them as Number 10s though. Perez is pushed to the left wing, Wijnaldum sits too deep and de Jong is not fit. No wonder we are not scoring, especially when we don’t play a Number 9 either.

Also, when Schteve said that Cisse and Tiote are not poisonous in the dressing room at the moment I don’t believe him. He has to say that.

      (Quote)

  53. The rags are having a good time its a right royal party, some are saying Moyes is being lined up to replace SM the next storey will be SM will bring sir Alex in to help him sort it out

      (Quote)

  54. I know it is pile on Schteve time, but do we really have a decent squad? You have to give the 4 new lads as pass because they have hardly played, but what of some of the others:

Krul: distribution has always been terrible but has now added a new twist of hoofing it to Sissoko on the touch line.

Coloccini – past his sell by date 2 years ago and is now just stinking up the Fridge.

Colback and Anita – is there a worse MF tandem in the PL? They don’t really seem to be able to play together.

Sissoko – flatters to deceive, only turns up for about 1 in 5.

de Jong – hopefully he is not fully recovered/match fit/not given support. If not, he is painfully slow.

Obertan – look at his goals and assists.

Cisse – isolated with a bad first touch.

The real problem with our team is that we have too many passengers. Maybe Troy’s Reality Train can take a few off our hands.
