Game On! Newcastle v Stoke

Game on at SJP!
Game on at SJP!
A home game against Stoke is on the agenda today as United look to bounce back from Derby day defeat last weekend.

And with it being Halloween Steve McClaren will be hoping that he isn’t left looking like a pumpkin at the full time whistle!

The last time we played a game on the day of Halloween was in fact against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium with Newcastle running out 3-1 victims courtesy of a Demba Ba treble. A repeat of that will be most welcome as the home side look to start putting some points on the board and some daylight between us and the bottom of the table.

The match preview went up earlier and can be viewed here. It details all the stuff you need to know ahead of the game including injuries, suspension, transfers out, some stats and facts and a look at the history of the fixture.

We’re also still running our competition where you have guess where a goal is going to be scored. It’s now open to a second round of letter picks just in case there is an irregularity with the first selections! You can view that here.

Team news I will endeavour to deliver as soon as it becomes available but there is always inevitably someone who beats me to it and posts it in the ‘comments’ section below so have a look there shortly after 2pm and you’ll find it. The same is also true of internet streams.

I touched on this in the match preview but again I firmly believe we’re playing much better football. We now need to start picking up the points to match it. Hopefully starting today.

Howay the lads!

  1. You can see why Jose gets ****** off, Lucas should have got a 2nd yellow and now they are 2-1 down. Yet another example of **** poor refereeing.

  2. No surprises with our team today, just hope we start like we did last weekend, only this time convert some of those chances.
Aarons can’t be fit – Gouffran making the bench ahead of him?!. If he is fit, he can’t have much of a future with us if he can’t even make the bench.

  3. Maybe he can take over at Toon if Steve keeps losing, he has a soft spot for Newcastle apparently. 😉

  4. Kim – Chelsea seem to totally lack any kind of urgency. Previously they have been so high tempo and direct in their play, but they just seem to be strolling round today. I also think that his 4-2-3-1 is offering Costa no suppose at all and clearly doesn’t work if the likes of Cesc, Matic and Hazard aren’t playing at the top of their game.
Really like that 4-3-2-1 formation and Coutinho is some player!!

  5. Sharpy, something must have gone on over the summer break, the players don’t seem to give a toss.

  6. Kim – no way I’d sack Jose, but his arrogance will be his downfall coz they aren’t doing it and he’s not really changing anything. Yeah he dropped Cesc & Matic today, but he went the same formation and just put Mikel and Ramires in their place. They can’t score and Costa can’t buy a goal, yet he’s still playing him as a lone CF. Remy is probably their best chance of a goal and isn’t getting used. He needs to change things IMO.

  7. One thing I’ve noticed is that it’s without doubt a lot of people have no interest in NUFC at the minute. Loads of school kids who have obviously had free tickets.

  8. Really could go either way this one, but I worry if we concede first our heads may drop. If we get the first I see us winning it.

  9. I do like how we are playing under McClaren like. I know it’s a results business & we have to start winning. But I am enjoying watching us now & wasn’t able to say that for a long time.

  10. Playing quite well but Sissoko seems to have returned to being 80% gash. Gives the ball away carelessly so often by overruning it or with a poor pass when a decent chance is on.

  11. Same old, same fucking old! Not to worry, I’m sure people are happy with the performance though.

Butland AGAIN 😯 It’s the Bristol air ya know that makes him so good

  15. Would of took 3 if not for Butland he was MOTM today. We played well but came up against an in form Goalie.

  16. Can just picture Ashley cringing. He’s got a huge decision coming up. What to do next when you are a football fool like him?

  17. Stuart, If you honestly cannot see we would of won today but for jack then I give up mate. Your hatred for SM is getting the better of you now.

  18. Stuart agree completely de jong Janmaat sissoko tiote mitrovic dummet collocini Anita wijnaldum all lack fitness and intensity for the Premier league. Absolutely shocking

  19. Week after week people on here saying we played well but just didn’t get the 3 points. What does that add up to? A failed team in the relegation hunt with clueless management.

  20. MM, most commentators and pundits have been singing our praises all week and today. What can you do when the goal keeper is playing a blinder, we had plenty on target today, it’s not like we created nothing.

      (Quote)

  21. Wijnaldum? Lacking?

The guy who scored four in a game?

Fucking hell it’s no wonder I rarely post on here 😆

Pissed we couldn’t score but still created chances and looked solid at the back for a change. But land saved them.

  22. What happens when we get back to playing good teams. After Bournemouth it’s Leicester, Palace, Liverpool and Spurs. How many points for us from those 4? Possibly 1 or 2? Even if we beat Bournemouth we would have 11 or 12 points from 16 games. Totally hopeless given our squad and management.

  23. One win from 11 matches. All the rest is excuse making. Nothing more needs to be said. We’re relegation bound bar a miracle in January.

      (Quote)

  24. G2, Yes it does, but what can you do to alter a **** shitty start to the season in regards tough teams to play. Red cards that shouldn’t of been given, individual players having brain farts. What is Steve supposed to do about that? Incompetent refs who send off when they shouldn’t and leave players on when they shouldn’t 🙄 I’m sure you’ll agree if not for that red last week we would be clear of the Scum now if you’re honest.

  25. We are very poor. Improving? Definitely. But it’s not hard to improve when the team were horrific at the start of the season.
Playing at home to Stoke. We have to get 3 points from these games.
What I see is a side with a big bustling striker that would thrive on crosses from a winger who gets to the by line.
We don’t have one on either wing.
Is it not obvious to the manager?
