Pavel is a Geordie!

RIP Pav
RIP Pav
Sad news has been released regarding former United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek who has sadly passed away.

The 47-year-old collapsed while out running when in his native Czech Republic shortly before Christmas and has been in a medically induced coma ever since.

Capped 49 times for his country, Pavel’s career took in stints at Banik Ostrava, Sheffield Wednesday, Brescia, Cosenza, Portsmouth and West Ham but it is his time with Newcastle United, where he spent the bulk of his professional career, which will be mostly remembered. Two stints at St James’ Park yielded a total of 152 appearances starting in the Second Division under Jim Smith back in 1991 and ending with Kenny Dalglish in 1998 taking in the rollercoaster ride that was ‘the Entertainers’ era with Kevin Keegan.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those closest to Pavel and I can only hope that we raise the roof in tribute to him at our next match.

RIP Pav.

  1. Terry: the excuse of the squad being full as the reason for not signing players is a smokescreen. Bigi and Curtis Good are in the current 25 man squad and could easily be dropped to make way.

  2. After seeing Wijnaldum in the middle against Arsenal it is obvious he is wasted out wide. I also thought that after the 1st 10 minutes Perez got to grips with the wide left role and offered some protection to Dummett. I would continue with this.

However, I often see calls for Sissoko to be moved to the middle. Why? Because he can run, people think he is box to box in the mould of Gerrard or Viera. But have you seen him put in any tackles or hit that many on target shots? I think he is better left on the wing, because when he is up for it players **** themselves when he runs at them and he does have an understanding with Janmaat. I only wish he would have a better instinct of when to pass or take a man on.

      (Quote)

  3. Eric that’s a good point. Bigi and Good never get picked for the first team. Another two players we need rid off.

  4. Quiet today, so here are my thoughts on transfers:

    1. We will probably get a Carr special – someone we have never heard of for a position we already have cover for.

    2. I think Levy will price us out of Townsend. We already have wingers though. Perez can play there, Thauvin needs a chance and Aarons is fit (for how long I don’t know).

    3. Swans would be mad to sell Shelvey to fellow strugglers.

    4. The big one, a striker:

    a) Give QPR 10 mil for Austin and make him our highest paid player.

    b) Loan Remy. He knows the club and was actually OK for Chelsea last year with limited opportunities. Bad numbers this year but all their players were **** until the last 2 games.

    c) Pay what is asked for Bas Dost. No PL experience but a giant playing in a very competitive league with a good goal scoring record. We would probably double his wages so I think he would come.

      (Quote)

  5. BTW, I still don’t think Chelsea will let Remy go unless they get a replacement first so we would be waiting until late Jan at best.

      (Quote)

  6. I also think our clueless crew (copywrite Troy) will sit on their hands regarding a striker until after Watford FA Cup and Man U. Those two results will be pivotal to whether there is an outcry from the fans.

      (Quote)

  7. We should have moved several players on years ago, or even given them away as the useless sick notes and shirkers they are. Saylor? Useless. He might have been worth 2-3 M 2 seasons ago. Obertan? Always useless. Never worth anything. Marveaux? Was never going to make it with us. Several more are on loan with Championship sides. Get rid of for small fees if possible. What a mess. Stop the kiddie parade from France. What a joke this has become. I’m speaking of Vuckic, Sammeobi, and Bigi. I would move Tiote on given a chance as well. And Dummett is never going to make a good enough left back Carr and McLaren. This is a mountain of a job to do.

      (Quote)

  8. I think many have given up Eric mate. We will lose those 2 games but nothing will change. McLaren will tell us how well the team is playing and how hard done by we are as usual. Carr will continue to look for cheap, young buys in France in the hopes of finding another Cabaye. The owner will continue to look the other way. Situation normal at Newcastle United.

      (Quote)

  9. Will Assley stay with Charnley, McLaren and Carr if we get relegated? Or will he manage to find somebody worse? I fear for the future of the club.

      (Quote)

  10. I see we are linked strongly with this French gadgy Saivet. Midfielder only got 4 goals in 26 games or something like that. Anyone know if he’s any good? Sounds exactly the type of player we should avoid right now…

      (Quote)

  11. So it looks like jabba is taking the cheap road (again) instead of paying 8/10 mil for a PL player (Shelvey) looks like we are on the verge of signing another sick note French m/f player for 2.9 mil,I give up

      (Quote)

  12. Tired of the runaround from Ashley and co. It never ends. McLaren: “we’re better than our record indicates. We’ve been unlucky in quite a few games.” It doesn’t matter McLaren. We have to actually score more than the other side to get the points. Do you get it now Steve? We have four wins from 20 games. Does that make you worry at all Steve? Step away son. You’re not up to the job. And take Charnley and Carr with you.

      (Quote)

  13. Ice, Last I read he was unsure of coming cause of our position 🙄 also Saints are sniffing round him apparently. I don’t know what to make of it except it’s the bloody cheap option again and another sicknote.

      (Quote)

  14. Saivet is a huge risk. He’s 25 but hasn’t progressed the way people had hoped. His price tag suggests he’s not going to help much. A lot like Obertan’s price tag from Man U if I recall correctly. Not the signing we need by any means.

      (Quote)

  15. Icedog: does m/f stand for mid-fielder or mother-f? The latter given our recent history of buys from France.

      (Quote)

  16. G2: I was reading Ed’s blog and he was giving Carr some stick. Some on there reminded him that he had a t-shirt link with Carr’s ugly mug on it and “In Carr we Trust” for 3 years 🙂

      (Quote)

  17. ERIC@766 you got about bloody right mate ime afraid to say.

KIM I don’t think it was him that said that it was that other joker from France a striker forget his name but club want 20mil for him so that’s a right no go

      (Quote)

  18. Well I hope we don’t get this Saivet gadgy then. Sick and tired of this penny pinching. Can Ashley really be this stupid? How the hell did he become a billionaire? We need to just pay what is asked for on Shelvey, Austin and a decent defender. Hopefully a good winger too.

      (Quote)

  19. I take some hope out of the fact that the Saints are interested too. They have signed some decent players without spending a huge amount of money.
I’m not too bothered how much the player costs as that isn’t always a reflection their quality. What I am bothered about is how good is a player who is 25 and playing for Bordeaux. I’m also bothered about a players injury history as we already have a lot of sick notes.
Saints could probably afford him the time to settle as well as they have decent players already in those positions. Where anyone we buy would need to be ready pretty much straight away.

      (Quote)

  20. What I wanna know is why we aren’t buying for the positions that we desperately need to address. I know it’s early doors but the lack of urgency given the state we are in is staggering .

      (Quote)

  21. Kim – you’re dead right. Arsenal had a deal in place for that Egyptian kid before the window was even open – why didn’t we for Austin or Dost? – it’s not like it hasn’t been totally obvious we are in desperate need of someone who can put the ball in the back of the net.
We could have easily had a fee agreed with the clubs and started speaking to the agents before the window opens.

      (Quote)

  22. Sharpy, Exactly mate, look at Leicester, they are flying yet have dipped straight into the market.

      (Quote)

  23. MIKE ASHLEY will not be changing his stance on loan signings this month – effectively ruling out any chance of Newcastle United re-signing Loic Remy.

Ashley is willing to adapt his transfer policy slightly, with head coach Steve McClaren having stressed the need for more Premier League experience as he battles to keep the Magpies in the top-flight.

However, the Newcastle owner remains unwilling to agree to loan deals that do not include the potential for a permanent transfer at some stage in the future, as he feels such agreements are effectively a means of writing off money. 😯 same difference is not spending adequately in the first place. Now he’s about to lose more than any resale could give him

      (Quote)

  24. We’re certainly running out of options. Two from Franxe that have been spoken of are very expensive and Remy won’t be happening. Who next?

      (Quote)

  25. Stu@774.
Although obviously a tongue in cheek comment, the frustrating thing is, all this club needs to have the chance to be up there with the big boys is a little loosening of the purse strings, and a truly ambitious managerial appointment.
I’d call last summers £50m the first part of that, provided it continued into future windows, and with the new tv money there’d be no reason not to.
So, just the elusive manager then….
How such a successful businessman cannot see an obvious solution is incredible.
At least Leicester, are ramming the ‘can’t compete financially with the top teams’ comments forcefully down their proverbial throats.
Spent a little money on a good manager and less on players and look where they are.
We spend £50m on players and give them a sacked CC manager to coach them, and look where we are.

      (Quote)

  26. You Yew – whilst I don’t disagree with you, I don’t think the most important role is the manager or head coach. I think the head of recruitment is the most important role in any club. It helps to have a top coach to get the best out of them then, but if your club is buying a load of duds then the coach is screwed.
I would be happier to see Charnley & Carr replaced over McClaren (for now that is)

      (Quote)

  27. Can’t agree with that, Sharpy. A top coach makes average players good and good players very good. A **** coach can make good players pretty **** if they aren’t coached well and the team don’t have the right formations and tactics.

      (Quote)

  28. By all accounts this €25m bid for Lazacette is true but the player isn’t thought to be keen. This will be the major problem for us this window. Are we going to need to pay higher wages for players to persuade them to join?

      (Quote)

  29. Fair enough. All we can do then is sit back and watch the club get itself relegated.
Pointless getting too wound up about it.
    Pointless protesting against it.
    Just go with the flow.
Another roll of the dice from the fat man.
He clearly thinks the coach and players we have got are good enough to get us out of this. We’re only a couple of wins from mid table after all. 😳

      (Quote)

  30. so we get a player who doesn’t want to be here, but is willing to take the money at the end of the day.
The perfect solution to a relegation struggle. NOT
    YCMIU

      (Quote)

  31. Sharpy:
My comment on appointing a top manager would assume prime recruitment decisions being passed onto said appointment, in the same way most top managers have final say, if not total control on who comes in and out of the club. And most clubs with a proven manager and such a policy in place seem to prosper on the whole.
Also, don’t get me wrong, I’m not baying for McClarens blood, just pointing out where I personally feel the policy of the club fell short in the summer.
Mind you, I definitely feel that McClaren, or any respectable coach for that matter, should be able to get a lot more out of our current crop than is presently being displayed during the majority of games.

      (Quote)

  32. Surely if you’re willing to pay that for Lacazette you’d for out less than half for proven prem quality in Austin? Makes no sense. Maybe he’s made it clear he won’t come, or maybe Carr has pulled the plug? I read somewhere McClaren was less than impressed with the way the club failed to get Austin in the summer. Pinch of salt as always

      (Quote)

  33. Doesn’t seem like it will happen. Fancy Lyon will strike a deal but the player won’t come.

      (Quote)

  34. The truth will out. Nobody decent will come to a club in our position. Loans maybe and even then it’ll be unproven risky types or those almost over the hill like Lambert or Walters.

Despite probably our best display of the season at Arsenal we are absolutely desperate for points in Jan. No points and that’s it!

      (Quote)

  35. STUART club have said they have not bid for the player and don’t know where the storey came from

      (Quote)

  36. Its the same old story every window.
misinformation is released from the club sources and the club then deny all knowledge.
We are suckers for it every year
    Nothing changes

      (Quote)

  37. BB not all of us fall for it mate water off a ducks back, just wait until we see whoever holding the shirt, like you ime sick of all ****

      (Quote)

  38. YOUYEW, no wonder we havnot bid for him, after learning of toon interest he said, that’s where French players go to die tell them to go fu*k themselves, that’s nice

      (Quote)

  39. Some may think I’m crazy (wouldn’t be the first time) but I would have Carroll back and pair him with Arma up front. I somehow think Andy might not be as injured playing for the Toon as for Hammers or the pool. He might just make more effort to keep fit for us. 😯 😳 😳

      (Quote)

  40. Yeah agree 18 mil is way too much but we are getting desperate now aren’t we? If we cannot get Austin, Remi, Lacazette, or any of the many others we have been linked with then options getting thin. Wonder what happened to our interest in that Wolves striker, Afobe or something like that?

      (Quote)

  41. Dubai, God knows mate. I said the other day I don’t think we will sign anyone, possibly another French winger/mf player knowing Carr but not much else. My oven is on waiting for me to cook humble pie, which I’ll happily eat but I still think I’m right. 🙁

      (Quote)

  42. KIM don’t forget. SM says having Rivi back training is like a new signing, don’t get greedy now you will upset jabba lol

      (Quote)

  43. So Shelvey says if he leaves Swansea he would prefer to go to C/P and not the toon, that’s that then, doesn’t shock me which decent player wants to come to toon

      (Quote)

  44. Ice, yeah, forgot that like. Seriously if it’s not AC, Austin or Remy then it’s gonna be another gamble isn’t it. Still it’s Jabba’s funeral, fail to prepare, prepare to fail as they say.

      (Quote)

  45. Have any of the club executives noticed we’re in 18th place after 20 games? I think probably not. They think we are a good mid table team with nothing to worry about. The supporters are deluded thinking we should be signing several players. Carry on then Mike, Lee, Graham, and Steve. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season.

      (Quote)

  46. Nothing happening on the transfer front ? If McClaren thinks Riviere is the answer to our problem’s then he really is stupid. If Lee thinks McClaren’s doing a good job then his lost the plot. I am grateful for the new t.v inside the ground and those energy saving lights.

      (Quote)

  47. Well things are looking up because we have finally won something…

The biggest football hooligans in the whole of England !

With more banning orders than anyone else, Even beating Millwall and West Ham into 3rd and 4th place respectively.

Top of the league, I bet Mark Mennim will be waiting to have the trophy above his fireplace ffs.

“See What I Mean Son, I worked hard for this over the years with various banning orders, Jail time, A near fatal stabbing and two heart attacks later it has all been worth it son” !
“I would just like to take the time to thank the following people for making this happen…”

You couldn’t make it up but it just goes to show you that when a football club has bad ownership the more violent the fans become !

      (Quote)

  48. G2 look at it this way. We have more points than Villa 😛 We are also two points above Sunderland. A giant club thats won 6 in a row against us. Ashleys over the moon.

      (Quote)

  49. Yes, Ashley is really showing us how it’s done now Terry. And of course he’s staying until we win something mate! I’m not sure I can manage to live that long. Possibly I’ll have to have myself frozen for a few decades. The man’s a complete embarrassment. 😳

      (Quote)

  50. Hey – at least we have the FA cup to take our minds of the transfer nonsense.
    until saturday night anyway 😳

      (Quote)

  51. It’s going to be such a tough window and I think we’re going to struggle more than they think to attract players unless we’re offering them mega wages – which we don’t!

      (Quote)

  52. I think that the obvious answer is to include a buyout clause if we get relegated. However, I think there is no way Ashley would allow that and I am sure that Carr thinks we are too good to go down as is. That’s a fatal error and they should learn from the last time when they thought the same way. In truth, we should not have gone down and Shearer is partly to blame because he is the one that appointed Iain Dowie (Serial Failure).

      (Quote)

  53. ERIC your a funny guy, obvious and the toon have never go hand in hand thought you would have sussed that after eight years and jabba

      (Quote)

  54. Icedog: I am not sure what you are saying, it is probably the intuitive text thing on your phone. I cannot fathom what they are up to because it is obvious to every man and his dog we need a goalscorer and should be moving heaven and earth to get one, even if it means paying well over the odds. The consequences of not doing this is probably relegation, which in the long run will cost a hell of a lot more. The bookies have us odds on for relegation.

We need someone in before the Man U game, even if he starts from the bench.

      (Quote)

  55. Eric – it’s my opinion, that we go forwards with Mitro and Riv, with Arma as last resort if (ha! when) it all goes tits up.
Thats the way these idiots think.
Now, a midfielder that might be worth a bob or two in a couple seasons, lets get it on.
oh and the defence is sorted now, thanks to SMacca 😉 so no need for more investment their until the summer.
    Panic ? what panic ?

      (Quote)

  56. I think I have seen enough of Perez and Mitrovic to realise they are good players but I doubt either will get more than about 10 goals a season in the PL. We need someone to add this, someone who will score about a goal every other game and not every 3 or 4. They don’t come cheap and Charnley and Carr should just accept that fact and get on with it, rather than try to prove how smart they are by saving a couple of mil.

Have a look at the goals for and against which hasn’t changed much since last season. That has to tell them that something additional is needed???

I know I am stating the obvious to people on here but how come our Board don’t see it?

      (Quote)

  57. Just finished having a chat with Mike. He asked me:
“G2 what do you think of the idea of bringing in a few more players?” Well, I was completely shocked to say the least. “More players Mike I says? That’s completely mad. You already have loads of players. You have 25 senior players and many young’uns. You can only play 11 at time Mike. No, this seems just not right to me mate. And they all want to be paid ALL THE TIME Mike! Can you believe that? Even when they’re injured! No I’m not joking Mike, check into that.” Well he was just blown away. Went away shaking his head.

      (Quote)

  58. I’m just trying to help Mike out. He clearly has some fairly bizarre ideas. Seems to think he’s following the Arsenal model or something. Keeps muttering something about cheap, top young players from Europe. Says he can’t understand why the supporters are angry again. Says he’s doing just fine thank you very much. Selling loads of rubbish made by kids in Bangladesh. Why can’t we understand his point of view for a change?

      (Quote)

  59. So the big question is: “Are we happy with a donkey for an owner? A big stupid donkey? Stubborn. Uncooperative. Digs his hooves in all the time when he’s told to stop being such a stupid donkey.” It’s a difficult one mates.

      (Quote)

  60. G2 his just had to shell out the minimum wage on his sports direct workers. It really broke his heart to do that. The way Mike see’s it that extra income was all his. Plus his lost 250 million pounds on shares. He can’t afford to spend any money on player’s or replacing the staff.

      (Quote)

  61. Ashley said to me, The fan’s can sod off. I just shelled out 50 million pounds in the summer the ungrateful git’s. Your not getting anymore money out of me.
