Pavel is a Geordie!

RIP Pav
RIP Pav
Sad news has been released regarding former United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek who has sadly passed away.

The 47-year-old collapsed while out running when in his native Czech Republic shortly before Christmas and has been in a medically induced coma ever since.

Capped 49 times for his country, Pavel’s career took in stints at Banik Ostrava, Sheffield Wednesday, Brescia, Cosenza, Portsmouth and West Ham but it is his time with Newcastle United, where he spent the bulk of his professional career, which will be mostly remembered. Two stints at St James’ Park yielded a total of 152 appearances starting in the Second Division under Jim Smith back in 1991 and ending with Kenny Dalglish in 1998 taking in the rollercoaster ride that was ‘the Entertainers’ era with Kevin Keegan.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those closest to Pavel and I can only hope that we raise the roof in tribute to him at our next match.

RIP Pav.

  1. That seems fair then Terry mate. You can’t expect much more from a big stupid donkey after all. 🙁

  2. G2 to be honest mate I would rather the club get relegated now because its going to happen eventually. Why prolong the agony so one man can become rich ? Newcastle are a very poor team now on the pitch. We might have a few promising individual’s but that’s about it mate. I for one will look forward to the championship next season because I know it will **** Mike Ashley off for a start. I wouldn’t get your hopes up about getting promotion at the first attempt.

  3. From The Telegraph today highlighting each clubs weaknesses:

“Newcastle have all manner of problems but arguably their biggest is an inability to deal with crosses. No team has conceded more headed goals than Newcastle’s eight, while they are alongside Leicester as the Premier League’s worst team when it comes to defending corners, with six goals allowed.”

According to our brain trust we don’t need any new defenders. We didn’t score from set-pieces either and it is mainly the same players that are relied upon for that. Surprisingly, Palace get the majority of their goals from set pieces which is probably why Pards is after hijacking Austin.

  9. Beardsley boots yeah I read that long message he wrote yesterday. All about the debt Ashley to do with the stadium and loan’s etc.

  10. Mike Ashley will get this club on a sound financial footing. His bolted the horse to the cart. Now we must win the fa cup so he can **** off forever. Keep your chin up people. McClaren needs this to get an 8 year contract with us. Unless he finishes 8th 😕

  11. I’m working a lot but if somebody writes an article and let’s me know when it’s done, I’ll get it published asap.

  12. Why would Ashley sell up of we win a Cup? What’s in it for him? We’d have a bigger profile for a short time which means more advertising opportunity for SD.

  13. so Palace arent interested in Austin..hmm we’ll offer 5 mill now we know the competition isnt so great 😆

  14. I think Sissoko has upped his energy levels recently but I still do not think he is box-to-box central midfielder as some clamour for him to be. Box-to-box implies tracking back, which Sissoko doesn’t do a lot of. He is more a one way player where he will burst forwards from our box. The other thing he does when he is on the wing is lose his man a lot, sometimes he just stands there assuming Janmaat or someone else will cover. If every game was not “like a cup final” for us I wouldn’t mind seeing Sissoko in the middle just to see what he is like there. However, it would be risky at the minute.

      (Quote)

  15. What I was saying is that Sissoko will try to defend when we are in 2 banks of four but he is not that good at it and he doesn’t bust a gut to get back after one of his runs.

  16. Much as I would like to see another striker brought in before Man U, I suppose we should try the same team and formation as played at Arsenal again. Steve might have stumbled upon a formation that works if only we could score. We need a Plan B though which means another striker.

The list is narrowing itself down to Austin and Dost unless there is a Carr special. It is good that Pards has ruled himself out of an Austin deal and West Ham and Southampton are not as desperate as us. Dost hasn’t played since November (not injured) so might be a possibility.

Levy has priced Townsend out of a move and Berahino has hardly played.

The Chron are saying we are looking at quality rather than quantity so I expect only one or two players. All of the ones we are looking at are gambles anyway for one reason or another.

      (Quote)

  17. Are we all just a bunch of naive football fans who have missed something obvious with regards to Austin?.
Pardew says he’s not interested because Austin isn’t better than what he already has. Austin appears to be a goal scorer – he was scoring for fun last season and has 9 in 16 this season …. and yet no PL club seems desperate to sign the lad. So what are we missing?, are QPR wanting too much?, is Austin wanting too much?, are his injuries an issue?
There certainly seems to be more to it than Newcastle not having ambitions or not being prepared to stump up the cash I reckon.

      (Quote)

  18. yes sharpy, bit of all actually and the fact hes free in the summer. he’s probably not desperate to go now and clubs think he should be cheaper because he’ll be free soon

      (Quote)

  19. Sharpy – To me it appears QPR are walking too much for a player who’s worth nothing in 6 months. I know people like TDS still think clubs would pay £15m for him but it doesn’t work like that obviously. I reckon he’s lined up a big pay day on a free.

As for us, I’m pretty concerned were heading down a familiar path. We’ve decided we don’t want Townsend as he’s too expensive. Do the club really think they can pick up ‘value’ in January given the predicament were in and the money at stake? Are they really that Naive?

      (Quote)

  20. But the good news is we have taken a young Swiss striker on trial. He could solve our problems…

      (Quote)

  21. His injury record over the last few years doesn’t show him to be anymore of a injury risk than anybody else.

      (Quote)

  22. I dont think Benteke has a future at Liverpoo under Klopp, but if they put him up for sale, we couldn’t afford him either.
I’m guessing they will be wanting most of their £25M back.
    Shame really

      (Quote)

  23. So reports say that WBA are prepared to pay the loan fee for Townsend and Stoke are looking at breaking their transfer record for Berihno.

      (Quote)

  24. My problem is the obsession our club has with getting a bargain. They call it value but it is more that they want to be shown to be smart. The buy young with sell on value and waiting for contracts to run down is not a bad ploy but it should not be the only ploy. We should pay full boat sometimes when there is a player who will make a difference.

That said, it could be argued that Austin is still a bargain even if forced to pay over the NUFC valuation and that Dost is not first choice at Wolfsburg. In the position we are in we cannot afford to play too much hardball. We certainly don’t want to be waiting until the end of January to do business as that leaves us only 15 games left. How often do teams “do a Leicester”? I can think of West Ham when Pards was sacked and that’s about it.

On Townsend, I will be pleased if West Brom get him as I am not totally sold on him and am not even sure if he is as good as what we have already (Riviere and Perez can play on the wing in my opinion.)

      (Quote)

  25. Problem is Eric that there will be no value in this window. Selling clubs know the money at stake. If we get relegated we will lose about £80m!!!!

      (Quote)

  26. When you look at it our targets are still typical Ashley/Carr targets:

Shelvey – fell out with management, existing coach confirmed today who was part of the set up that he fell out with.

Saivet – cheap option from French league with injury issues.

Austin – out of contract, QPR should sell rather than getting nothing.

Townsend – way down the pecking order and playing for U21s. Poch doesn’t rate him but Levy wants the right price which is more than we will pay. How long for him to find his feet again after not playing all year?

Dost – never 1st choice, Wolfsburg will have money to burn when they sell Audubayang (sic?) in the summer and Dost will probably be the odd one out.

In a sense, we are still looking in the bargain bin / land of lost toys but there aren’t that many others available and the competition is greater because the stakes are higher.

Still would take Naismith and would ask about Morales as well.

      (Quote)

  27. I personally think the £14m for Townsend is rich considering he can’t get in their team. Although the £14m we paid for Thuavin gives justification to Spurs asking price when it comes to NUFC

      (Quote)

  28. Stu – I reckon Townsend would contribute far more to the first team as well mate. I think he just needs to be at the right club with the right manager showing him some faith and I reckon you’d see a top player personally

  29. How the absolute fluck do the scum sign a defender from Bayern and we get an U21 Swiss kid on trial???
    Shambles.

      (Quote)

  30. SUBZOO – ‘shambles’ doesn’t do this club justice.
    Its far worse than that.
I’ve said it before, but this club doesn’t deserve to be in the EPL.
The way it is going, it wont be for much longer.

  31. We are going to be the next Blackburn Rovers.
A club run by a bunch of bafoons.
Unable to even compete in the championship
    A total joke.

  32. Is nobody interested in the FA Cup then?

Glad that it looks like Cisse will return early. Is it true or a smokescreen to explain why we are not going all out for a striker? Is that cynical of me?

  33. ERIC looks like it could be a another French wonder man hic hic, French striker by the name Yedder who has started talking to some toon players on twitter,or is he just been friendly 😉

      (Quote)

  34. Is there any way to fine a team for not taking the FA Cup seriously? Liverpool are fielding a reserve team that is an insult to the competition and the Exeter fans. They might win, but only Benteke would even be on their bench in the league.

      (Quote)

  35. By Big Dave’s mighty Bloghammer I have returned! I’m still patiently waiting for the window to close to see what we do. Every little thing counts. A new frock for the tea lady. Some incense for the dressing room. A Yoga instructor…. these are some of the things I believe we can afford. So I’m just going to sit back and wait for it to happen……

      (Quote)

  36. Ice – if it’s Wissam Ben Yedder from Toulouse I’d take him like – certainly ahead of that Saivet kid. Yedder is a right sided forward but loves to get into the box. Based on the lack of bodies we get in the box on attacks I think this one would be one of the better options from France. It wouldn’t be the best option – but I don’t suppose we will ever see that at Newcastle unfortunately.

      (Quote)

  37. I see Bmouth have bid £10m for Wolves Benik Afobe as well. He’s banging them in in the Championship like. If Bmouth get themselves a goalscorer and we don’t then they could pull away from us in the league.

Any of our article writers able to stick a nominal article up?

      (Quote)

  38. SHARPY aye that’s the lad cannot say I have seen him play, don’t know what’s going on at the toon I know they have taken their eye off the ball thatSwiss kid that useless Ryder said had signed on trial for toon has in fact signed a four contract with a German team

      (Quote)

  39. Ice – Yedder and Perez behind Mitrovic could work, but they aren’t adding PL experience there at all. From what I’ve seen of Yedder he does look canny but he’s not getting 15 goals a season IMO. He’ll get in the box as a second striker but I don’t see him throwing his head in where it hurts.

Just been looking at Afobes record there. He’s only 22 so still young and has 10 in 27 – so a 1 in 3 in the championship for £10m.
Where as Charlie Austin is 26 and has 9 in 16 – a goal every other game in the championship despite a few injuries. He could probably be got for £8m.
Which is better value for money?!

      (Quote)

  40. Ice – just read the article about Yedder following NUFC players on Twitter – I didn’t realise it was Armaz, Arrons & Thauvin – not the 3 you would have thought if it was just a social thing like would you?!

      (Quote)

  41. No Stuart. But Riviere, Aarons, Taylor, Marveaux, Lascelles are JUST LIKE NEW SIGNINGS. So don’t be greedy.

      (Quote)

  42. McClarens words are starting to get a big like Pardew’s were during a transfer window.

    I’ve got that familiar feeling…

      (Quote)

  43. SM said he doesn’t want to get us excited 🙁 not sure if he’s talking about his football or signings.

I have total faith in Charnley 😯 we have Arma down the road, Toney on standby, Rivi’s back!!! And Cisse has been rushed back despite doctors insisting he needs surgery but could be risked..

That’s 4 strikers added to the two inexperienced ones playing now. Add Goofran and ‘pace of a asmatic granny with 1 lung’ SDJ to the mix.. We should be ok 😆

      (Quote)

  44. Honking? Good. I’ll not be bothered at all.

Ashley wants a cup. Well he needs to realise to win a cup you need a squad of players that are half decent.

Unfortunately under Ashley, every season cup games become an unwanted distraction that our squad/position can’t handle.

Sad to think this way but if we lost Perez or Mitro we’re totally screwed. If that’s possible given our current standing

  45. 24 year-old Napoli striker Manolo Gabbiadini

Sky Sports Italia are reporting that Newcastle have offered €17M plus bonuses to try to get the 6ft 1ins tall Italian striker to Tyneside.

    It’s been rejected..

So if we have that kind of money I’m assuming Austin is a no-go

      (Quote)

  46. So I take it they aren’t even considering PL experienced players then?
Idiots, nowt else to say really is there.

      (Quote)

  47. Kim

I’d take PL experienced players if they are good enough; Weve tried for the likes of Bent, Tomkins, Zog & Sidwell in recent years…

Ive not seen Gabbiadini but hes playing for a very good Napoli side and had a decent scoring record last season (15 in 33)

Personally id rather that money was spent on Shelvey and a quality attacking left back. As i believe Cisse, Mitrovic, Perez, De Jong, Sissoko & Wijnaldum have quality/goals in them but the side lacks control in midifield and has no balance out wide with Janmaat bombing on one side and Dummett just clipping it down the line the other
