  1. They will definitely help Stu, but there is work to be done still. We need a top striker and ideally a good defender at LB. If we don’t get those two, then it will go the wire.

you talking there like the moneys coming out of fatboys coffers it aint buddy the club will be funding all the money spent

  3. @ 677

    it’s all his money regardless.

and if we had another 4 or 5 points i doubt a single penny would be spent.

  4. Well it will probably come as no surprise that I am chuffed we look like we are bringing in Townsend.
I’d love to see us bring Remy in as well, and if we could get a defender in as well then that would be a great window IMO.

  5. Petey- at the moment getting Remy would bea “whoa” signing. We know his quality, ok he’s not exactly Shearer, but getting him through the door alongside all the players we’ve signed in the summer? That would be phennomenal by the standards of the last 5 years or so.

  6. Sharpy – I bet you can’t believe it mate, a dream come true for you to get both Shelvey and Townsend!? I bet even the missus has noticed you’ve perked up in excitement 🙂

  7. TAE – from what the player himself is saying, I don’t think it will be this window mate – if at all. I still think that he has designs on a bigger club than us mate. I would love to be wrong though coz he looks a top forward.
I think the club would probably favour the loan of Remy who has the experience to possibly keep us in the league. Then spend the money in the summer & try and push for Lacazette or Berahino.

  8. Remys the safest bet, Not just PL proven but NUFC proven. Be very pleased if we got him back

That would do for me, I know we need a LB but I think they will carry on with Dummett, Haidara & Mbabu until the summer (When Willlems will be fit..) same with centre back

  9. well incoming anyway would like to see a couple of our naff players leave before the window shuts meself

  10. Newkie – the cats got more confident mate 😉 doesn’t run every time i walk into the room now 😆 … (For the record, I don’t have a cat).

I’m just pleased we are getting young English players with PL experience. I would go out on a limb as well and say that these are likely McClarens players.
Like him or loath him, I think he can only be fairly judged when he has his players at his disposal.

  11. I must say the ovens on ready for my humble pie, I was convinced we’d sign only one MF player if that. Either Jabba has had an epiphany or he’s cacking himself over the thought of lost tv dosh 😉

  12. TAE – I’ve never saw that mate. If that’s the case we should be working on that one.
But I’d progress the Remy option too as a safe plan B. If we could get rid of Gouffran I’d bring Remy in as well.

  13. Sharpy 😆

Kim – definitely the second one for Ash 😈 I think! But to be fair he did tell us all last year he’d invest… 😯 hard to believe there’s no panic buys amongst them though…

  14. It’s hard to believe that Townsend will be the answer to our prayers to be honest. He is a welcome addition as he is better than what we have but he’s not a goal scorer.

      (Quote)

  15. I think the idea Stu, is that he comes as part of a bigger picture and not as the messiah… The club is obviously looking to address the lack of a goalscorer. Really hope we get rid of a few fringe players in next few days too.

  16. Well nethier are through the door yet but the reports are Growing that it’s going too be Townsend and Remy coming into the club possibly tomorrow .If so then i honestly believe we Will pull of a great escape and save ourselves . Those 2 Will provide and score enough goals alongside Giny , Shelvy, Sissoko , Perez and Mitro too secure enough points . We Will have enough expirence and options too allow Mitro and perez too be taken out of the firing line and have the pressure taken off their young shoulders thus allowing them too rebuild their confidence and allow them both 20-30 minute cameo apperences after games are more or less won.

  17. Stu – don’t believe for a second the lad will come in and solve the clubs deep routed problems or bag 20 goals a season.
But I think he will add some much needed pace & directness to our attack.

  18. SSN are saying that the Pato deal to Chelsea is done. If that’s the case then I reckon it’s green light for Remy to move.

  19. TAE – can’t see Palace signing Remy and Adebeyor. He’ll come to the Toon if they push hard enough (££££££) I hope.

  20. If we get Remy then it has been a good window. Remy and Shelvey my top two picks to improve the team. IF Townsend comes good we’ll be OK. 5 or 6 wins needed from 15.

  21. Georgio. Oh yeah forgot they signed Adebeyor, that should be interesting to watch, it will either be brilliant or a disaster.

      (Quote)

  22. SSN confirm that Palace have signed Adebayour on a free transfer. I don’t see them getting Remy as well now personally.

Squad for next game? Possibly Townsend from bench with Perez starting.

  24. For me it’s good news. It makes us that much stronger in attack. We’re going to have to outscore the opposition if we’re not going to strengthen the defense. Townsend is a decent player with a small amount of Prem experience. Far better than another Frenchie (no offense to any Frenchies out there).

  25. Well its ambition if anything else. thats 26 mil on 2 suspect wingers.

I hope he comes good as there is obvious talent.. He will definitely add something to our team and may give us a spike in performance, its the long term im concerned about with townsend,

I have all my faith in Sharpy 😆

    just need Remy now

  26. See Shane Ferguson has been released and signed for Millwall so thats the first of the deadwood out . its a shame it did not work out for him here, i thought he looked a cracking player when he first got into the first team here , he had a good cross on him and looked like he was going to be a good winger .

  27. Even Ashley and Co. will have to get around to replacing Colo soon. He’s 34 now so his time is up. As is Saylor’s. Mbemba is very decent indeed and possibly Lascelles will make the grade as well but we will need cover. It has to be done now or in the summer at the latest (if we survive that is). Our LB situation is not good either and Janmaat is a liability too often defensively at RB. A lot of work to do back there.

  28. Yep Fergie is gone. He was never going to make it with us. We still have several more who won’t either. I’m thinking of Vuckic (such a waste of early talent) and Bigi to begin with. Obertan and Saylor gone in the summer as well (contracts expired). That’s five gone at least. Then we had better see some proper players brought in.

  29. That will be McLaren’s job if we stay up. To rebuild the squad to make us competitive with the mid table clubs before it’s too late.

  30. No more avoiding English players. By bringing in Shelvey and Townsend they have admitted that the continental only method was a failure. And it was. A huge amount of money wasted over the last couple of seasons. Someone within the club will have to take the blame for that. Ashley will not blame himself. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Carr step down if we get relegated.

  31. Adding Townsend and Remy would close a decent window for me, in spite of not signing the defenders we also need. I don’t think Townsy is a world beater, but we were crying out for experienced players and we need more down the left side…. he’s probably the best option available, and credit to the club for pushing hard enough to get him without buckling to Levy’s ridiculous £14m demand
I’m hoping the signing of Shelvey and Townsend will highlight to Charnley and Ashley the benefits of a manager being able to select players to play in the system they are trying to create. Scouts are important, but having them force a manager into trying to conjure up a system to accommodate players who they personally think are good, instead of buying ones to slot into an already established system, is folly at best.
Square pegs, round holes, etc and so forth……
