Transfer window gathers pace

Closing in on Remy...Again!
Closing in on Remy…Again!
Having already welcomed Henri Saivet and Jon Jo Shelvey to the club this January, there are rumours that the business is not done yet – with Andros Townsend apparently on his way in a £12m deal. What else can we expect before the window slams shut?

Well it has tonight been confirmed that 24-year-old Shane Ferguson has been released and signed a n 18-month deal with Millwall, where be has featured over 25 times this season, scoring twice. A hard working player with a very good cross on him, his stamina is what seemed to let him down at the top level, which is a shame. On the bright side, our squad is carrying a lot of players that offer little to the squad – either in terms of ability, consistency or being injury prone – so it’s good to see spaces beginning to be freed up in order to allow players to come in that can offer Newcastle United genuine depth of quality and tactical flexibility.

Marveaux, Gouffran, Obertan, Williamson, Cisse, Heidara, Taylor and a few others fit that catagory – and most of them can be expected to be moved on either in the remainder of this window or during the summer. What we can expect during the next week is for the tough tackling, talented but not often available Cheick Tiote to complete his £5m move to China, whilst French Flop Florian Thauvin should go back to Marseille on loan – hopefully with a compulsory buy back clause…

Fans are split on whether Townsend is value for the quoted £12m fee being paid for him by virtue of his lack of recent first team football and tendency to cut in and shoot at goal – usually missing the target. That said, he is a natural left footed winger with searing pace and something to prove – who has Premier League experience, so he should definitely add quality and threat to our play, especially if deployed from the left wing in his stronger foot as opposed to the right like he was at Spurs. See an example of what he could bring below;

To round off this window and give ourselves a solid chance of survival, we need to sign a striker. With Pato said to have finalised his Chelsea move and Adebayor now a Crystal Palace player, our chances of re-signing Loic Remy have increased. He is proven in the Premiership and proven whilstcwearing our colours. He is keen to secure a move this January because he knows he won’t make the France squad for the Euro’s if he’s not playing regularly. Fingers crossed for this one because signing Remy is a no-brainer if we want a goalscorer capable of making an immediate impact. Here’s a reminder of what he could bring us;

There has been talk of Lacazette , which as impressive as it would be – would still be a gamble as he has not played inbtbis league before. Meanwhile, the £25m being quoted for Berahino is far too steep. Whilst Mitrovic has stuttered somewhat in front of goal this season, Berahino’s general stats this season are no better than Mitro’s. With a heavy price tag and questionable attitude, I’m not sure he is the right man for us. But you never know…

  1. I agree Ice. They want 30, we are offering 25. Meet them in the middle because he’s the only available player capable of bringing a new level to our forward line.

Carroll was worth 35 several years ago before this TV deal, so why not 30 for Berahino? Our board needs to pull it’s finger out.

  2. SHAM it’s a no brainier, the kid has just turned 21,if we kept him that’s ten years return.

This Remy carry on is varying every day report it is only a loan till season end no clause to buy

  3. PREM,that’s not bad, what about past seasons?? does it stand up? is he actually German maybe MM. might have seen him play

  4. Lasogga would be alright if we didn’t just spend £13m on Mitrovic 6 months ago. He is the same type of player.

Seems a waste of time unless we are serious about making De Jong or Townsend a converted striker. Does McClaren think Townsend can transition like Henry did at a similar age?

  5. Cannot understand Swansea not that I want Gomis but to sell him and then bid 7mil for Gayle from C/P that cannot score for toffee beats me are they planning for ccc

  6. ICEDOG we were after Lasogga before he moved too Hamburg , If i remember rightly he was at Shalke and even visited Newcastle for a look around . His mother at the time was his agent and he was pictured with her and she was Fit als **** . I remember at the time thinking i wouldnt mind him signing for us , he was a hot prospect in the Bundesliga then.

‏@GFN_France An agreement is said to be in place in principle for the loan of Seydou Doumbia to Newcastle – Marseille to miss out http://bit.ly/1OXyFaO

  9. KIM aye mate I posted that further up the thread,if it was a choice between him and Gomis it wouldn’t be Gomis

  10. Can we please now make a pact never to covet Remy again, how many times does the club want to be rebuffed.

  11. Let’s look at facts. Shelvey and Townsend are rejects at their respective clubs. We’ve paid big money for them as well.
We should be looking to buy players who are wanting to keep them.
Mark my words, we are being run by imbeciles and Ashley will pay for his decision to continue to appoint the wrong people to run a multi million pound company.

  12. KIM lol sometimes I never even “get”off the mark, ill make a pact with you never to say “that” name again 😆

  13. I swear to fucking Christ that Graham Carr and all the morons he influences are like domestic violence victims. Remy constantly rejects us except the one time he used us to avoid relegation and we keep coming back asking for his forgiveness.

To keep up the victim mindset, Carr has been raped by Marseille with Thauvin and Cabella.

  14. Slightly disagree with you, Troy. Even clubs that don’t want to sell end up selling. There’s many different reasons why clubs allow players to leave. My bet would be that if Shelvey hadn’t fell out with the coach he’d still be there because he’s their best player. As for Townsend, I still happen to think he’s a good player and will get better. Just because he’s not good enough for Spurs’ first team doesn’t mean he’s not good enough for ours. They’re 4th and in with a chance of winning the league – we’re 18th and in with a chance of relegation.

  15. Leicester need to sign someone like Remy to try and qualify for the CL. Also good for Remy to join them and maybe play in the CL next season.

  16. Axel, you still about? I just realised that Lasogga’s Momma is a poundland version of Brigitte neilsen.

Fair point of view. However, Shelvey has now failed at Liverpool and Swansea.
Townsend, apart from a rich vein of form for a short period has crashed.
In my opinion, if either were going to better their respective teams performances they would have been playing.
Don’t get me wrong, they will be ok and get their game time and probably do ok.
The problem we have is we are bottom 3 and it’s time to find players who will roll their sleeves up and fight for the cause.
Of course plety of players fall out with the management and move on to other clubs and are successful.
They were usually successful at the club they were sold from though and you can’t say that about Shelvey or Townsend.
You will remember my words. I will remind you. 😉

  19. The worst thing to happen to both shelvey and townsend, was to get into the England team too soon.
Far too young, and inexperienced. it goes to their heads and suddenly they think they are gods. WRONG
sometimes all they need is to grow up and mature as footballers.
A move to a new club can provide that opportunity of reflection and a new challenge.
I’ll not be too hasty to judge them until we have seen them play a few matches.
Good luck to them while they are here

  20. the sands of time are running out fast.
Has the board delayed too long before pressing the panic button ?
showing any interest in Gomis just shows how desperate we are becoming.
The plan was to sign nobody this window 😳 😳 😳

  21. How can anyone expect great things from either shelvey or Townsend. ?
History tells you they will play well for spells and then drift off.
The money spent on those two would have been better spent paying big money for a goal scorer.

      (Quote)

  22. Poch is doing a great job bringing on the youngsters at Spurs. Our lot could learn something from how he does things.

      (Quote)

  23. Shelvey in particular was a necessary purchase Troy. We have needed a player with an Wye for a pass since Cabaye left and he has hit the ground running with 2 assists in 2 games. Even his 2nd game when some gave him stick for his performance, he still came up with the goods and got the assist.

No idea if Townsend will kick on or flop but looking forward to seeing what he can do. That said, striker has always been first priority and the board has to deliver, preferay Berahino…

All I’m saying is, unless we get a goalscorer in then I believe that money spent on those two is wasted.
On top of that, I don’t see anything more than talented players who have not performed enough at their respective clubs to get excited about.
    They’ve both failed. Never achieved.
Why get romantic and believe they are good buys?

      (Quote)

  25. You are right in that the board needs to gets in a quality striker.

Townsend I’m not exactly excited about, but he adds width and does have potential . His coming in has seen off Thauvin, who I detest – so all in all a good move.

Shelvey is still very young, but is very experienced and definitely brings a quality none of our other midfielders have – so regardless of whether he succeeded at past clubs or not I don’t really care. He is an improvement for us and is already proving it.

Like you say though, it’s all by the bye if a good striker does not come in.

  26. TROY STAVERS have you ever represented your country at anything? Those 2 have and in Townsend’s case scored goals as well. Thats achivement . It takes skill ,hard work and dedication too your work too earn the right too get called up for your country .if thats not achivement then what in your view is achivement ?

      (Quote)

  27. Sham – you shouldn’t detest Thauvin, he is what he is. **** poor.
your hatred should be directed at the old tosspot who decided he was good enough.

  28. See Jordan Rhodes was left out of the Blackburn Squad with rumours of a move on the cards according to motd. Would rather take a gamble on him that Gomis

      (Quote)

  29. BB Carr makes his mistakes for sure and he needs to take a step back. However I still detest Tahuvin. Not necessarily because he’s a **** footballer, but because he’s a poor excuse for a man with no fight in his belly. I can’t stand people like that. He turned up here thinking he was on a catwalk then crapped himself at the first sign of hard work. Pfft.

Carlton Palmer once represented his country. 😆
Your point is poor in my opinion. I’ve explained theyve both had great spells of form and have talent but the facts are they faded and never became club favourites.
They were both unwanted by their clubs.
What about buying players with talent who are wanted but we offer decent money to prize them away. That’s what the top clubs do.

      (Quote)

  32. icedog@456, wouldn’t touch lassoga mate, but we should go all the way for berahino or lacazette.

agree regarding thauvin, the bloke really is poor. how on earth could the toon chase him for 3 years when he has been an abject failure everywhere he has been ? i reckon of the two cabella is by far better suited for the epl.

      (Quote)

  33. MM cheers mate best he stays at home with mammy then

Talk toon are going in with one last bid of 34 mil for the wba kid and they say the kid wants to come

      (Quote)

  34. I agree with Troy regarding Shelvey and Townsend. If there were 2 players in the prem that are inconsistent but have shown quality at times, its these two.

But.. its a new chance for them, theyre both young and still able to learn. They could turn out to be cracking signings

      (Quote)

  35. so ya think they ganna in with a bid of 34 mil for the wba kid what you on Dog 😆 😆 😆

  36. shelvey/townsend = 25% players.

they turn it on 1 in 4 games – we will murder most teams if they turn it on in the same game – the following 3 games we will look a poor team.

    wijnaldum is the same.

  37. TAE@509 that’s a report they are going to do,but like all reports in papers it’s all a load of **** guess work to sell their ****,they only get their storeys right is when a player signs

  38. %%ck me Gini in double figures already and he’s a 25,% player? Shelvey has played twice for us and got an assist in each game..

    Anyway…

  39. Troy isnt That what the club is trying too do with Berhino and Lacazette ? trouble is even the top clubs dont always get their targets , Some clubs just dont Sell or they get an offer thats beyond the true value of the player before they do sell . Such as Liverpool spending 35 million on an injury plauged striker that only had half of a season in the premiership 😆 As for Townsend and Shelvy fading away could it not just be they do not get on with the managers /trainers ? Shelvy played every week under Monk but fell out of the team under the new trainer .
