Auf Wiedersehen, Pet – The end of an era, and start of a new one!

Howay the lads!
Howay the lads!
Some of you may have been wondering how where I’ve been, what I’ve been up to and why I’ve not been banging the keyboard so much lately.

I won’t deny it has been tough as writing about my club for fans who also love my club has been one of my greatest leisure pleasures for coming up to seven years now at a guess.

It all started on another site which allowed me to cut my teeth and really get into the buzz of writing. I then started up this place with big ideas and it went really well. Too well in fact, if such a thing exists, and soon others had to be enlisted to help out.

It is those people who I would like to thank as I announce my movement away from the day to day running of the site. Those who have become closest to me will know just how much time and effort and money this place has taken out of me but I wouldn’t change it for the world and I wouldn’t be writing this now if it wasn’t for you.

You. That is you the reader, you the person who comments every now and again, you the regular commentator, you the regular contributor, the shared administrators. Everyone. There are really too many to mention.

Time for me has become a precious commodity and I’m doing this place a disservice by letting it go on as it is. I’m also doing my family a disservice however and want to spend my spare time with them. My son is now three and it feels like only yesterday he was born! How time flies. I still remember Icedog sending me a card! Thanks mate.

So you’re probably wondering what is going to happen to this place now? Part of a condition of me stepping aside was that I could find someone willing and able to continue and grow the site in the way I would have liked. Fortunately I have found someone. I’ll leave the ‘hello’ to the new owner as he’ll be able to tell you a bit more about themselves once the dust settles.

So all that’s left is for me to say goodbye, and thank you. I have a feeling with fresh impetus this place will again thrive and no doubt you’ll see me still penning the odd article if allowed.

Take care everyone! I wish you all the very best. Howay the lads!

  1. Richie @ 74 but I must admit we had a few good laughs on there just before we moved on to here. Which reminds me can you remember some of the stuff we joked about on here testing the blog just before it went online properly 😆

  2. Can anyone remember any positive moments we’ve had on this blog regards NUFC? Wouldn’t that be a cause for celebration?!

      (Quote)

  3. Richie that was one 😉
Stuart no mate we havent had much positives from the club , apart from the 5th place finish, but then as usual we never built on that.

  4. Thank you for all your effort you put into the ‘blog toonsy, we do really appreciate it. I’m sure you will not be far away from writing an article in the future. Things will change with the club for the better “eventually” and you will find the time somehow I’m certain. Bravo for setting up the site. Some people are talkers and others are doers, you fall into the latter category sir. 🙂

  5. It was BATTYS fault I nicked the lead said he was re-doing his roof, until I got up there,Ime still waiting for him to repair my scooter he said he was waiting for the money Dave owes him

  6. Sorry, that was Pardew’s first home game, we won his first game 3-1 at Liverpool. Then a month later Andy Carroll was sold. It sort of epitomises NUFC under Ashley where there is a bit of hope and it all comes crashing down before you have a chance to enjoy it.

😆 Theres been a few close calls mind you
    Sharpy
I try to hide the influence from you all 😉
    Big Dave
Cheers mate, will try to comment more often

  8. How come Paul Merson’s head has turned into a pumpkin? It is as wide as it is high and sits on his shoulders without a neck anymore. And it has grown to twice the size of when he was a footballer. Some new kind of fertizer they ‘ave now? Then there are all the bobbly bits that are on it now that make it look even more like a pumpkin.

If he didn’t open his gob now and again I am sure I would stick a candle in him at halloween. I know it is his job now to tell us about NUFC along with that scouse elephant seal next to him. BUT I NEVER VOTED FOR THEM.

  9. all the best Toonsy, thanks for not telling everyone that I am taking over things! 😎

  10. All the best, Toonsy. Thanks for your efforts. It’s been an honour to have had my humble words published on your blog.

  11. Stuart, if he said it was a miserable *******, my money would have been on you! 😆

  12. Sharpy@93, Wonderful to watch that again, what a leap he had on him, great night. Will we ever get to them heights again I wonder.

  13. as already stated on this blog by many, there’s not anything to be actually cheerful about NUFC now and those who are, are actually seen as a wee bit simple.

      (Quote)

  14. I obviously don’t know you personally Stuart, but you do seem like someone that takes little joy in anything in life.. not just footy 😉

      (Quote)

  15. Oh that’s where your wrong, Aussie. I enjoy greatly travelling the world, trying different things and different cultures, socialising, drinking, eating and even working. It’s probably not wise to use the opinions on NUFC as a guide onto someone personality. As I say, only a idiot would be enjoying the situation at NUFC over the last 9 years.

      (Quote)

  16. Scaremonger = a person who spreads frightening or ominous reports or rumours. Firstly I really don’t think anything to do with NUFC can be truly called frightening. There are many more things happening in the world that would better describe that particular word. As for the ominous reports, most of what I have said about NUFC over the years have usually been true and have happened. I know you and a few others won’t want to accept that because you lot are a persistent positive laden half bakes who see the good in everything NUFC whether there or not. Slightly bizarre that.

      (Quote)

  17. Who is enjoying it mate?
I don’t, it ***** me off.. however, I try not to let it pollute my every thought on football…

      (Quote)

  18. Anyway, must dash, just boarding my flight back from a nice week in Prague. Enjoying very much the different culture and of course the drinking… 🙂

As long as everything is still rosy in the Antipedean NUFC garden then you’ll be delusional my happy. Which is the main thing. 🙄

      (Quote)

  19. AMF I see you finally got RICHIE back home, said he will send you the flight money when he gets back on the beach front and gets his guitar fixed

      (Quote)

  20. Nice Dead reference Prem!

Toonsy mate – can’t thank you enough for this site (and all the other contributors especially Shamrock lately). Enjoy your time with the family especially the lad as it flies away at high speed. Good luck!

  21. Ice,
It’s all good with Richie.. he also cleaned out my bar fridge before he flew out but he left an iou note.. Im expecting the money any time now! 😆

  22. ” … most of what I have said about NUFC over the years have usually been true and have happened”

Lol. I laughed at that one. Just goes to show, though, you can take the **** out of yourself.

      (Quote)

  23. You were spot on in your previous comment, Aussie (for once), you really don’t know me personally. 🙂

  24.       (Quote)

  25. What’s with all the venom AMF? It seems to be all you do now. I have said it before but you never talk about football you just have your little digs at people.

      (Quote)

  26. Eric, it’s because there’s nothing positive to say about NUFC and he is only positive!! Well, apart from when he has his sly digs of course. They’re totally positive dogs… 😯

      (Quote)

  27. Back to football…errr…. Adam Johnson. His estranged girlfriend was on the stand today and was shown a picture of his, er, Johnson. I assume the jurors were as well. He supposedly had shaved his pubic hair or close cropped it but why did everybody need to see a picture to prove this?

      (Quote)

  28. I just think that is bizarre. If he had a mole or a tattoo down there I could understand but I think we all know what shaved or close cropped hair looks like.

      (Quote)

  29. Toonsy . thankyou for all of the time and effort you have put into running this blog .
I am sure it will remain the best NUFC blog for many years to come.

      (Quote)

  30. Hahaha, Eric. Not a pretty sight I imagine. Reckon it’s because she said he had shaved it. How would she know if she hadn’t seen it I suppose is the prosecution point. Although he will argue that many men ‘groom’ down there these days. 😳

      (Quote)

  31. I reckon Ashley and Co have their own version of the official secrets act and all of the minutes are being scrutinised by lawyers before we get to see them. 🙄 Did a fans forum meeting actually take place???

      (Quote)

  32. Ice, Of course she has, good on her too, no less than the **** deserves imo. It’s not just the lass but the numerous twenty something’s he was sexting too. Let’s be honest he can’t possibly love or care for her if he’s doing that. If the bloke had a brain cell he’d be dangerous. 🙄 Talk about a fall from grace, from hero to a big fat zero .

      (Quote)

  33. What the **** Toonsy! That was actually quite a sentimental goodbye. I’ve been reading your articles for yonks now so you must have a knack for it (other than when predictions come into it) – you will be sorely missed.

Alll the best for the future mate, take it easy.

  34. KIM@ its something I cannot get to grips with,I nacked myself in the footy game to much drink and too many girls, but once married I’ve stuck by my vows it never crosses my mind to even look elsewhere and Ime more than happy and had great life, that’s why stuff like that sickens me I don’t understand it

  35. Club not in crisis and are convinced we wil stay up this season. When asked on what basis they came to that conclusion they said some of the teams performances have been encouraging. That will be one good half against West Ham and a win against WBA who were complete rubbish the … Not sure I agree with that.

Also they were asked why nobody at the club ever suffers for failure – they completely whitewashed the question! Give no real answer.

One positive was that they didn’t exactly give McClaren a vote of resounding confidence. Said performances are reviewed (I think) and internal discussions happen with everyone challenged.

    Basically though a bit pointless.

The new training ground has been updated though. Just as I told everyone a few weeks ago that it was. Just no idea when or if it will be built!

  36. Ice, me neither mate, he should walk a mile in some less fortunate souls shoes and realise how great he had it. Too late now, he’s ruined and wrecked a few others lives along the way.

  37. It is amazing that the one person who did his job and won something was the one who got the sack. Hoots must look at all the following managers and scratch his head.

  38. Doubt if he cares about the dimwits Kim. Still doing a good job I see.
Funny old news from Toonsy. I do think the blog’s strong enough to continue though. Good luck to the new guy.

  40. CE: “Do you not think the squad is a bit lopsided?”

The club reiterated its belief that the squad now has strong options in most positions, but did look to strengthen in other areas in January..

We’ve had Mitro as our main center forward and Colo / Mbemba as the only two reliable center halves since Dummett has occupied the left back position due to injuries..

    where are the stronger options??

  41. I have just skimmed the minutes and it all seemed like an exercise in opening their mouths and saying **** all.

  42. So when is the new owner(s) going to make a much anticipated appearance? We want to know the plan moving forward!

Ice I never did ask – when did you play and who for? I have a colleague played for Bournemouth and Liverpool back in his day. He has some great stories.

      (Quote)

  43. Ice – you should consider writing a story about your playing days. No doubt it would be one of the most interesting reads we have ever had on here.

  44. SHAM it’s a long time ago,it was Gateshead then W/auckland,the first winners of the World Cup (not while I was playing Ime not that old lol) got trial for the toon and was invited to sign a contract I was just a kid (16) but my dad would not sign the forms said I had to get a proper job with a trade, those days wor Jackie was only on £5/6 a week,so I got a trade (turner) and went semi-pro got play with some international players that were coming to the end of there full time days learnt a lot from them, did a bit of coaching in Aussie with under13s and went on to win the all Aussie finals,I was working in Aussie at the time doing coaching part time, that’s about it mate, not much to write home about Ime afraid

  45. Ice, ARE YOU KIDDING 😯 , sounds great, defo got to write an article about it, it would be a cracker.

      (Quote)

  46. Ice – sounds to me like you had a few good experiences and I for one would be very interested to read about your memories and how different things were back then. As you know from my ‘blast from the past’ articles – I have lots of time for the stories of yesteryear.

      (Quote)

  47. Sham the only problem for Ice is when you get to his age the memory isn’t the best same as the eyesight, and he has a habit of nodding off every now and again. So it might take a while to write an article 😆

  48. KIM I forgot to say PUP at only 8 scored a hatrick in the final but a lousy sod done his knee for him when going for a forth
