Game On! Newcastle United V Bournemouth

Biggest game of the season?Welcome all to the Game On thread, where you can dissect and reflect on Newcastle United’s must win home match against Bournemouth as the game progresses.

The thread is late up, so I wont waffle as there is a game to concentrate on. Needless to say if we don’t win today then we the fans expect Steve McClaren to be shown the exit door. Well we expect that anyway… however, this is a must win game and if the lads don’t pull off a result today then no doubt the general consensus will be that we will be playing Championship footy next season.

Newcastle United: Elliot; Janmaat, Taylor, Lascelles, Dummett; Colback, Shelvey; Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Perez; Riviere.

Subs: Darlow, Anita, Saivet, Gouffran, Aarons, Mitrovic, Doumbia.

.

  1. Or it might just smell that way for a bit Kimtoon lass. We’ve been in a near death state a number of times now. No new posts for weeks. A blogger once ever 48 hours or so. Somebody mentioning the idea of a new post then being politely ignored…. Never underestimate wor blog!

      (Quote)

  2. I know Hitman the blog lay out was perfect the way it was. Much better, cant we go back to the original lay out please ?

      (Quote)

  3. Terry
I agree about the layout but the owners can’t stop your inferior posts 😯

      (Quote)

  4. Kim I disagree, we will just be moaning about being in the championship and not winning promotion with McClaren. I hope to god I’m wrong and they sack McClaren and replace him with an experienced manager like Moyes. Miss Toonsy’s original lay out, much better than this.

      (Quote)

  5. I would like to see the numbers on the posts too.

Would be interested in a snap poll of who actually thinks the club will sack McClaren? I’m undecided. Clearly they should but the club can always be counted on to make the wrong decision.

  6. I thought we looked tired. Our auras weren’t bright and sunny. There wasn’t enough fire in the bellies. We looked lacking in belief after that first nasty one went in. They took it to us in a very controlled fashion. The pink was a bit dazzling and that worked against us as well. We seemed to surrender the midfield all too often and just let them attack at will. Our positioning could have been better. Elliot was overworked at times. We didn’t get enough shots on goal. Other than that we were definitely second best. But definitely not third best….

  7. Troy, we been losing bloggers by the bucket load, I had thought new owners would revitalise it, but, it’s a bit quiet on that front. Have they lost interest already 😕

      (Quote)

  8. Troy why change the lay out when it was perfect the way it was ? It’s terrible

      (Quote)

  9. I have to contest that Kimtoon mate. I would say we’ve been losing bloggers by the small platoon, or possibly by the squad. I mean how big a bucket are we talking about? And we’re really not that friendly or willing to squeeze into a bucket in a compressed fashion. So… I just thought I would bring that into play…….

      (Quote)

  10. Stu, We discussed this the other day, lots of old bloggers have gone or only pop on rarely.

      (Quote)

  11. G2, where is Geordie Deb, Wolfie, stardust, tds, Zoe, Marktoon, fanshould own the club, and AOD .Even Andymag has only just popped back on and regulars like Premandup and Big Dave aren’t on anywhere near as often now like. Oh and what’s his name (minds gone blank) who comes on at night with funny post, **** it, can’t believe I forgot his name, he makes me howl.

      (Quote)

  12. They’ll be back Kimtoon lass. Of that I’m certain. Or…. errm fairly certain. Because like the club itself we are the salt of the earth. We are the fish in the tacos. We are the savoury skewers. We are the slices and sprigs…..and did I mention I may have had a bit to drink after that loss???

      (Quote)

  13. GodZilla ?

      (Quote)

  14. Well I didn’t want it to slip out Kimtoon lass but Geordie Deb has been dating wolfie, which has caused a bit of a backlash with Stardust. Marktoon has been hiding on another blog and refuses to admit it. TDS has been sulking because we had another argument and zoe always sides with TDS and has gone off in a snit as well. They’ll come back. I just get the feeling. As our new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says: “sunny ways baby, sunny ways.” 😀

      (Quote)

  15. I predict a influx of new bloggers if we ever have something positive to blog about.

Many you mentioned there, Kim don’t come on because they’re tired of always being wrong… Probably embarrassed

      (Quote)

  16. Yeah his funny Kim 😛

      (Quote)

  17. Stu, But isn’t a difference of opinion what makes an interesting blog? if we all agreed it wouldn’t be anywhere near as much fun and poor Troy would end up sulking in his basket bless him.

      (Quote)

  18. Yes Rodz is funny isn’t he? We need to get him back. Could somebody send him some dirty pictures of themselves? I would do it but I’ve had the flu and am looking a bit run down. I’m drinking some decent white wine from the Okanagan Kimtoon lass. Gives me less of a hangover than red. I like it sweet. Mmmmmm.

      (Quote)

  19. G2, Me too 😆 Would have a drop of scrumpy if I could be arsed to go out but now I’m in me jim jams it’s too cold to change. 🙁

      (Quote)

  20. anyway MOTD is on and I’m half watching that, until we appear anyway. I don’t want nightmares so I’ll switch over.

      (Quote)

  21. TROY maybe you are just confusing yourself .The fact is all new managers are a risk and while Some get an instant reaction a lot dont . It comes down too the ability and mentality of the players and a lot of our Squad lack the qualities too play in the premiership . Yeah i look at the history and i do understand the game obviously you dont . The word CAN does not justify your argument that we will be safe with a change of manager . The change should happen now though so we can have a chance of bouncing back next season just like houghton did last time . After that happens (bouncing back) or not then can a long term plan be put in place but that will only happen with a new owner because this one is clueless in running a football club .

      (Quote)

  22. Some player ratings:
Elliot: his left leg looked a bit longer than his right today. He kicked better.
Janmaat: should be a wingback. Not suited to defensive play. Slightly dutch appearance can be a bit disconcerting.
Taylor: looks a bit knackered as soon as the match starts. Are his underpants too tight? His eyes appear to bulge out a bit as well. Unlucky on the own goal.
Lascelles: Really starting to grow into the position. Would like to see him paired with Mbmemba.
Dummett: played his typical game. Not quite quick enough. Seems to be becoming injury prone. Not keen on him long term.
That’s it for now. I’m just giving you a bit of a taste of excitement there.

      (Quote)

  23. Lascelles didn’t look too bad actually, fell off a bit as the game wore on though but then most never even got started 🙄

      (Quote)

  24. I’m off to de-stress now. This has been another bad day. The club have to pull themselves together before we’re totally out of contact with 17th place.

      (Quote)

  25. How were only 1 point off 17th is completely beyond me! If results hadn’t have gone for us in the last couple of weeks we’d have been dead and buried by now.

      (Quote)

  26. We have lost to every team in the bottom half at least once this season, with the exception of Norwich. 😕

      (Quote)

  27. Leicester 5 points clear!!! That is absolutely mad so there is hope if we just sack McClaren now.

It is us or the Mackems so we need a Manager who can win that game in 2 weeks.

I agree with Stuart that it is mental that we are still in with a chance of survival.

How many “must win” games can McTufty lose?

      (Quote)

  28. I watched the game in the NUFC bar. Probably 20 NUFC in there, all yanks except me. 3 or 4 started singing Blaydon Races at half time . It is probably the strangest thing I have ever heard, the Yank accent and Blaydon Races.

Probably like Howlin’ Wolf listen to Mick Jagger crucify an American accent.

      (Quote)

  29. Here are my ratings out of 10 for the Bournemouth match:

    Craig Hope – 10

Keith Bishop for his player statement – 0

Charnley for his head in hands admission of guilt – 0

Fatman for not turning up – 0

    Players – 2

    Manager – 0

    Riviere – 0

  30. 5 Things I learned from today:

Nothing, I already knew we were ***** and McClaren should be sacked.

      (Quote)

  31. Let me correct what I said about Jagger. Not the worst singer, worst blues AMERICAN accent.

      (Quote)

  32. I remember seeing Eric Burden on TV in a Newcastle Pub reminiscing about the ’60s and his career. He said he was coming back from a tour of America and had all the of puffy shirt, flower power gear on and goes into his house to see his Mam and all she could say was “why can’t you sing with a proper accent hinny”.

      (Quote)

  33. Furthermore: there were Yank Chelsea fans watching their game at the same time as The Toon game. The one next to me asked if he could take our picture as he couldn’t believe there were 20 Toon fans in the bar after the season(s) we had had. I think he put it on twitter or something, and probably with a hashtag “delusional”.

  34. You all know that Brian May from Queen is an astro-physicist right.? Has a PhD and has written papers and stuff. Well, if Brian is so smart then why did he have a poodle haircut for 30 odd years?

      (Quote)

  35. He wrote his PhD on the gravitational effects of Paul Merson’s head on our sun and other suns near to it. His conclusions were that Merson should be sent to the North Pole, just in case his head expands any more, and to meet Santi Clause. You never know, when his hat size has expanded to 3 metres now (from 2 metres a year ago), it could just cause a black hole that even Phil Thompson’s nose couldn’t fill?

I will leave Andy the Magpie to decide.

      (Quote)

  36. And why do all Verdi’s Operas sound the same? He is like the Status Quo (the band) of Opera.

      (Quote)

  37. Getting a feeling the club won’t be acting and he will keep his job. Apparently there’s a board meeting today and I assume McClaren will be there. Wonder how he will vote…

      (Quote)

  38. Journo’s on Sunday Supplement ripping the club to shreds! “Shambolic, mess and people in the jobs who aren’t up to it.”

    Spot on I say.

      (Quote)

  39. Stu – Everybody can see that, so why can’t Ashley!!.
He might think the worlds against him & everyone hates him – but everyone can’t be wrong FFS!!!.

I wonder if he as the owner will be present at this board meeting?!.

      (Quote)

  40. Stu, putting him on the board was the strangest decision yet imo, it makes sacking him so much more difficult. I agree, I don’t see him getting sacked and I’m disappointed he hasn’t walked away tbh, I thought he would.

      (Quote)

  41. We’ve been saying all season, especially at the beginning when Perez couldnt get a game, he makes us tick.
Without Perez buzzing around we look stale and predictable. Yes he’s inconsistent but hes young and still learning.
He wont learn sitting on the bench and coming on for 10mins
He showed his quality with a brilliant goal. thats what we’ve been missing so why does the numpty insist on dropping him 😳

Same stupid reasons why he started with Rivi, we all knew what a desperate attempt it was to turn things around.

The bloke is really struggling and making the wrong decisions. He should be put out of his misery.

I honestly think its too late now to avoid relegation. Sunderland are fighting back. I thought theyd get the draw yesterday. We couldnt go to S’ton and get a result in our current predicament

      (Quote)

  42. I can only hope that club hasn’t lost sight of the fact that there are still 30 points to play for. It’s not too late; if they act now, 12 points ( 4 wins) would put us on 36 which may well be enough to survive. But they have to act now, we will not beat the Mackems if we play like yesterday and the loser of that will likely drop.

      (Quote)

  43. So Troy where’s the results when McClaren took over, we didnt get any short term success.

Kilmarnock are the same under Lee Clark. havent won in 3 since his arrival.

So what makes you think Clarky could come to the Prem and get instant results when he can’t at Killy?

      (Quote)

  44. Leicester will tear us a new one the form they’re in and after that we would face the Scum at an all time low confidence wise. Looking at them on MOTD last night they still look fragile at the back, even with fat sam’s in put , Mannone pulled off some smart saves to keep them in the game.It will be a crying shame to waste the run in we have with steve in charge.

      (Quote)

  45. Gashley – Huudick at Chelsea, this new fella at Swansea?.

Granted there are no guarantees, but the rot has clearly set in under McClaren and we look horrible!!!.
I blame the players for not working hard enough as well mind, but the set up of the team just does not work and McClaren keeps saying he continues to ‘believe in what they are doing’ – frightening!!.

      (Quote)

  46. Are our new site owners about?.

A number of people have posted comments and from what I’ve seen they haven’t been acknowledged yet.

Haven’t seen many new articles going up either. Thought we might have had an analysis article or something – Shamrock put this one up.

Come on boys, we aren’t asking much. Don’t go the way of our board and cut lines of communication.

      (Quote)

  47. @Sharpy. I’m not saying stick with SM I’m saying managers like Clark or S Pearce don’t have the credentials or the respect of the players to get instant results.

Can you honestly see Sissoko etc listing to Clarky?

you cant compare Guus Hiddick to clarky 😆

Also, have you seen the experience Guidolin has and the teams he’s managed? both huge managers compared to Clarky

      (Quote)

  48. Sharpy, it’s very scary that he feels that way, it makes him look delusional. There would be no shame in him holding his hands up and saying , I can’t fix this let someone else try. I have never disliked the guy, seemed a decent enough bloke which is why I so wanted him to succeed , but really there is nothing to cling to. Before there were little bits of good play here and there and I thought he might be on to something in training but even those chinks of light have gone now. More over, the players don’t even seem to be trying anymore with the exception of Shelvey, Saylor, Elliot and Janmaat.
IF they do get a new coach in I would be telling them that they can forget a transfer away if we drop, give them something to think on. A lot of lazy sods out there yesterday who look to of downed tools, embarrassment to the shirt.

      (Quote)

  49. @Sharpy.

Ive been saying since the start SM is ****. he has completely lost the plot.

Some papers are suggesting he’ll get the boot today. Hope so but more likely papers are trying to guess the obvious

      (Quote)

  50. @Kim Thats SM all over. Nice fella **** manager

If you look at our results. high scoring defeats. He had them at Boro and Derby

He has never been a good manager. Why on Earth we thought he could be a success here is mental.

It just shows how flawed our policy is. **** managers who are privileged to be here in their last chance saloon. Needs ripping up if we want to be successful

      (Quote)

  51. Gash – I was referring to new managers not individuals – you might have a point about Clark – but then consider DIC or Poyet at Scum, or Gary Monk when he took over at Swansea.

I’m not sure Sissoko would listen to Pep to be honest mate, and I think that is part of our problem. We have a handful of senior players who don’t give a ****. But maybe Clark would have the balls to drop the ***** and try something new. McClaren is sticking with the same dead beats week in week out, and has dropped the players who have worked this season – Perez, Mitrovic.

      (Quote)

  52. my mate said Sherwood yesterday. Perfect choice, another yes man who would also be privileged to get a chance at Newcastle.

      (Quote)

  53. It has to be the severance payoff that’s stopping Ashley hooking him, it cannot be loyalty or a stability issue because at the moment there is no stability whatsoever.
That’s a ridiculous stance if it’s the case because, the payoff is covered by the fact he doesn’t have to pay any compo for say Moyes, Rafa or Rogers and pearson if they were tempted to join us.

      (Quote)

  54. @Kim. I wouldnt hire Sherwood but he’d be Ashleys Perfect choice.

If we go down Ashleys route and hire another manager thats not too high profile who would like a chance in the Prem, I’d go for Aitor Karanka.

      (Quote)

  55. Kim – I think Mc is clearly a footballing fella, he just isn’t cut out for management.
I would make him our DoF and task him with overseeing the development of youth players coming through. Boro always seemed to have a good academy and he’s seen how the Dutch & Germans do it with Twente & Wolfsburg – plus his time with the FA and the U21s into the full team.
He’s on the board already, so just step down as coach and maintain that role as DoF.

      (Quote)

  56. The one thing with Sherwood though is that he demands workrate from the players – and if they don’t give it he isn’t frightened to drop them and give a youth team player the chance.

I’m not sure about long term, but I bet Sherwood could keep us up with 10 games to go. I bet you’d see a different Newcastle side in that derby game!!.

      (Quote)

  57. We were beyond dreadful yesterday. Embarrassing. Most Div 1 teams
would have won. McClaren makes awful selections and there’s not
even a hint of team style/pattern we can easily see at every other club.
    Bournemouth outclassed us.

      (Quote)

  58. whats the score with the new blog owners. Are they really toon fans or just looking to make some money from advertising etc?

THeyve popped up once and disappeared. loads of questions are being asked for the return of things but they dont respond.

What we see at SJP seems to be happening to this blog too 😆 bring back Shepherd (toonsy)

      (Quote)

  59. Once again, Ashley has a perfect opportunity to show everybody he has ambition and appoint a guy with stature. Will he? No, because he’s not interested in that. Still an opportunity though.

I’ve made my mind up now and I would punt for Rodgers. His football is good, he did well at Liverpool and didn’t have full say over the players who were brought in but still has a better record than Kloppo! He also seems to have this ego that would give him the confidence to take the job and put some of these players in their place.

      (Quote)

  60. Sharpy, That’s not a bad idea, moving him to DOF and oversee the youth set up. It saves face and enables us to bring in a new guy.

      (Quote)

  61. Stu, Wasn’t Jabba a fan of Moyes though?
Rogers Liverpool team played like KK’s really, great going forward poor at the back. That’s ok if you have a suarez type player or the players KK had, but looking at our lot, some of them struggle to break a sweat let alone a burst into the opo box 🙄
