Sack Steve to Save Our Season

Pundits and ‘experts’ alike love to drone on about managers needing ‘time’ to succeed at football clubs. This noble notion was almost always supported with evidence of ‘look at Ferguson at United’ and ‘Wenger at Arsenal’. The telling difference there though is that those particular examples happen to be two of the finest managers of the modern footballing era.

Those men demanded time because they epitomised forward thinking and footballing progress. Bobby Robson didn’t need time, neither did Keegan. Newcastle gave Pardew loads of time, look what that did…game after game of uninspiring, unimaginative unsuccessful football. Something Palace fans are just getting used to.

There is a ridiculous assumption that Newcastle fans demand a team that plays exciting football and is challenging for the top honours every season.

No, Newcastle fans only ask for a team to be proud of. A team whose players sweat and bleed for the black and white. A club that shows ambitions of being better than what they have become. A club that is forward thinking and strives to progress. A club that is at least heading in the right direction.

Following the abysmal capitulation at Stamford Bridge, McClaren had 18 days to prepare for Stoke and Bournemouth.

He took them for warm weather training and plotted his game plan. And what masterful design did Steve come up with? Play for a nil-nil draw. They failed. They failed in every which way a team could fail. Failed to Score, failed to keep a clean sheet, failed to secure a single point. Under McClaren, Newcastle are headed in one direction, and we all know which way that is.

McClaren cannot be afforded any more time. We simply don’t have it. Ashley should be aware of this. The last time we were relegated Ashley hired Shearer with just eight games remaining to rescue our side…he was powerless to do so. Newcastle need new direction, new impetus, new belief…but they need it now. With plenty of good managers in need of a fresh challenge available, Ashley would be foolish to stick with Steve.

  1. So do I have to fill in my username every time I post?
can’t remember my old username and want to use Gasley but new registrations aren’t allow??

    no emoticon ?

why cant we just reply to everyone instead of creating replys to specific posters?

  2. Whatever happens today Charnley or whoever makes the ludicrous decisions at the club have royally fecked up. The very latest Schteve should have been sacked was after the Chelsea game, giving the new manager 2 and a half weeks to work with the players. Why give the ****** an extra 2 games when he’d already proved how **** he was in the previous 26? Hopefully he goes to day and it’s not too late. Whatever happens the club needs a massive change at every level, we are **** from top to bottom. You couldn’t make a club this sh!te if you tried.

  3. Thanks for the article ‘SRF’Don’t think we’ve heard from you before.Anyway, not convinced the club will sack the Grin Reaper today, and if they do, certainly don’t think they will replace him with anyone of any quality or substance.Planning must begin in earnest now for life in the championship, so that will rule out most of the so called ‘top’ candidates being mentioned.I am of the mindset that Cathro will get the gig until the end of the season and see what happens.

  4. We are a complete joke of a club, and have been for a long long time. For me Jabba is the main reason and needs to appoint a proper manager, and give him the powers he needs to get the players he wants for the positions he needs. But I have been saying that for a long time.
By the way Nick and Andy really cant understand some of the changes being made on here in lay out, no post numbers etc. IMO it is making it harder to comment and read.

  5. there is no quick fix to the mess we are in. After nearly a decade of mismanagement, we have a very poor head coach, a hopeless first 11, no reserves of EPL standard to step in, an abysmal academy and a board that is so far out of its depth it beggars belief. Our goose is well and truly cooked, and relegation is a virtual certainty. In the long run, it may well be the best thing to happen, to enable a complete rebuild. Survival after all will only mean more of the same.

  6. Man Alive! How long does it take to sack someone?  It is so clear that there is nobody at NUFC who is capable of making decisions. What a bleeding mess!

      (Quote)

  7. Can’t get used to this new lay out for comments, Shouldn’t this be at the bottom of the posts?

      (Quote)

  8. I have been ine of those calling for time for Schteve – but even I’m seeing this as too much.My original argument still stands – that it will not really fix anything – but two things have changed:1. It may keep us up.2. With money now being spent we may actually attract a good manager.

  9. Post are out of sync for me! totally confused and gotta keep entering my user name. Where am I going wrong guys?

      (Quote)

  10. Kim it is if you click on oldest, it’ll put the newest ones at the bottom but then when you refresh it’ll go to “best” as default so you’d have to do it every time (frustrated face emoji) also you would then have to scroll to the top to write in the comments box.

  11. New layout is *****. No communication from the new owners. Cheap SD tat shop feel. I’m done. Gona contact toonbano and see what his plans are for his place. Otherwise, time to call it a day on the old blogging.

      (Quote)

  12. McLaren is still here because if he is sacked, it will be an admission that he was the wrong choice and that wrong choice ultimately falls squarely on Chrarnley. So I fear that Charnley is covering his inept **** by sticking with his man… sad times…

      (Quote)

  13. Right I have no new comments or old comments any more to click on. Is it back to refresh now then? Plus I gotta keep scrolling up to comment and the comments are still out of sync! what the hell has happened? And where are the bloody emoticons gone and please bring back the post numbers guys. I hate to be a moaning Minnie but this is a mess, either that or I have gone to new levels of thickness.

      (Quote)

  14. Kim yeah the comments are all out of sync. And the problem is the new guys dont come on to chat to tell them. Yeah they might read the comments but we dont know that. I said before I dont understand why they would take over the blog if they dont use it to chat with others, unless it is to try to turn the blog into a money making hit counter, and if thats the case I wouldnt be wanting to come on as it wouldnt be the same friendly blog that it has always been known for

      (Quote)

  15. Bit hasty that, Sham…

Anyway, I am not particulalry up to speed with this new set up but I am sure we will all get use to it in time.

      (Quote)

  16. Right when I refresh this is the time order of post from users from the top of page to bottom. 12m, 13m,13m,11m,7m,3m,5m,16m,17m,48m,1hour,45m,44m,25m,31m,1hour,1min !!!! can’t understand what’s going on, am I only one with this issue or what?

      (Quote)

  17. Kim just noticed that if you click the newest tab out of the 3 , it will put them all in order. But when I refresh it puts it back to the ( best tab )

      (Quote)

  18. Ah right, so you have to click on newest to get comments in sync, doh, not too thick then lol.

      (Quote)

  19. Kim tbh I understand how Sham feels, I am allready fuked of at the way our club is run, but now I am starting to get pissed of with the path the blog seems to be taking. Its making it harder to come on here and chat with all the needless changes

      (Quote)

  20. Dave, the comment system was fine as it was mate tbh. I could get used to this now I have sussed it but we need number post to debate with each other. It’s ok if you stay on but if you go out for a couple of hours then come back and want to debate what someone posted hours ago it’s difficult now. We have even lost the time posted now so it’s even more ridiculous. Also people could miss the meaning of what you are saying without the emoticons.

      (Quote)

  21. Hey guys,

We tried implementing this new comment system last night but like everything else we’ve tried is having some teething problems! 😉

First off, apologies for all the ‘messing around’, we’re trying to bring the blog into the 21st century a bit with a new design and maybe a new comment system but you guys are the core of this site and your opinion is of most importance.

Andy tried to get the comment numbers working with Toonsy in the week but to no avail. I think what we’ll do is try and get a developer on board who can get the comment numbers working again.

      (Quote)

  22. Back to the original comments for now – we will get a dev to sort out the numbers situation in the week.

      (Quote)

  23. Aussie…In my defence I put the wrong pic up lol, I was trying to put up one when they paraded the Championship trophy

      (Quote)

  24. Kim…I think if he was “staying” we would have heard….the vote of confidence, that’s what I’m pinning my hopes on anyway.

      (Quote)

  25. Cheers Nicky that’s a bit better. Few other things.

    1) emoticons.
    2) when we publish an article, we like a caption on the bottom of the image. When we used to publish, you would click on the ‘image’ button and inset the image into the article. Can’t do that now because the image won’t appear on the home page like it used to. So instead you have to use the featured image option on the right hand side. This would be ok, but it does not seem to publish the caption if you use that option and does not align the text alongside it.

    3) when you decide to make changes – please discuss it with us first and get a general consensus on what would work. I understand bringing the place into 21st century, but if you make changes without consultation please make sure you are here talking us through the changes !

    4) we would like to see you all pop on to talk footy with us every now and then. Make us feel like we are all part of one happy family rather than being a soulless blog with mysterious owners and writers.

    5) please don’t brinh that stupid thumbs up thumbs down feature back!

      (Quote)

  26. Dave@09:38 I said that earlier man, keep up. Though you may never find it scrolling thru the comments lol

      (Quote)

  27. Shamrock…I’d give your comment a thumbs up but I don’t seem to be able to now lol

      (Quote)

  28. Thank goodness we’re back to near normal.
I would 2nd what Sham says in that it would be good for Andy and Nicky to come on sometimes and join in with the chat.
I along with others on here have been blogging from the original .com then .org and here from it was formed. IMO its better if the blog masters join in with the craic rather than it seeming like a faceless blog that seems to be there for hits.

      (Quote)

  29. I just stuck SSN on and they were outside the training ground I think, but it was the end of the piece so didn’t hear what was said.
Don’t think they would show up without reason though – anyone hear out or saw SSN?

      (Quote)

  30. @Shamrock

    1) Emoticons should be back now.

    2) I will look into this today.

3 & 4 are also noted. To be fair the change was made at midnight last night but we should popped a note somewhere, you’re right.

Shearer’s Right Foot by the way is a good friend of ours who hopefully will be one of the lead writers in the coming future – he’s not au fait with wordpress right but when he gets to grips with it, I’m sure he’ll be on here a lot too.

By the way, my old man who has contacts with an assistant of Mike Ashley’s, has heard a rumour that Ashley is trying to bring Mourinho in for the rest of the season and is giving him a bonus of 1 million pounds if he can keep the club up! Pretty mental if there’s any truth to it.

      (Quote)

  31. Btw – if the layout stays like this then all is good. I for one would be happy with it and would stay on the site, contributing articles. Probably 2 per week.

One more thing Eric mentioned. Rather than find paid writers, why not do this:

Set up a charity donation for SBR foundation and other worthy causes then advertise that any good articles submitted will be published on this site with a percentage of advertising revenues being donated to the charities. I would be much more motivated to write for you regularly if I thought it was for a good cause and I reckon others would chip in more too 😀

      (Quote)

  32. Please imagine the scene in the NUFC boardroom now. Ashley will be on the loud speaker on the Spider, Charnley will be panting like a dog aiming to please his master, Carr will be doing his SUDOKO and Moncur will be looking out of the window shaking his head. The conversation will be going something like: “So, Lee, what do you think?” “Oh I don’t know, Mike, I like Steve and I really don’t want him to fail.” Graham, what do you think?” Er, me, er, this bloody Daily Mail are a disgrace! These SUDOKO’s are getting harder every day!” “OK, well lets wrap this up, it doesn’t look like we will get anybody else to do as we want so lets stick with Steve and brief the press that we couldn’t get anybody better, TTFN, guys!”

      (Quote)

  33. so the site is now pretty much the same as toonsy’s was but without the numbers.

well at least the effort is there 😀

      (Quote)

  34. Nick – good to see you posting mate. I have no clue how difficult it is to set blogs up or change stuff on them, but I agree with what Sham said. If it takes time then so be it but keep in touch in the meantime mate and get SRB posting as well as knocking articles out.

      (Quote)

  35. Luke Edwards ‏@LukeEdwardsTele 1m1 minute ago

I don’t want to spread panic but I’ve been told this morning that someone in a key position at SJP doesn’t want to sack Steve McClaren #nufc

      (Quote)

  36. I can truly believe that Ashley is nuts enough to think that he could convince Jose to sell his soul, but why the **** would he?.

Is £1m worth his reputation?. The man wins leagues, he wins cups, he wins champions leagues FFS – keeping the toon in the PL is not something he’s looking to add to his CV.

So the club announce that we stick with McClaren, because they couldn’t get the man they wanted.

This is the same club that stuck with John Carver for the second half of last season by the way 😆

    Fucking nonsense!!.

      (Quote)

  37. @Shamrock, to be fair that is a great idea. It’s on our to-do list to get a ‘Write for us’ banner on the site. Once we get the comments numbers sorted we can look into it.

      (Quote)

  38. Sharpy – The longer this goes on then the harder it is to see him leaving. It really does take incompetence and negligence to a whole new level!

Stick with him and I really couldn’t give two ***** whether we stay up or not, becasue it will be obvious they don’t. The only reasons they won’t sack him is because 1)They don’t want to pay up or 2) They wouldn’t move from their failed structure to allow a better manager a go.

    No other reason!

      (Quote)

  39. Stu – completely agree mate.

I was hoping to hear something today as like I say, I saw that SSN is at the training ground, which is out of the norm – so fingers crossed.

      (Quote)

  40. Also it is worth noting that while the supporters have now turned on McClaren it will be almost impossible for the players to play in a positive atmosphere in the home matches that we need to win. He just can’t continue in any positive form.

      (Quote)

  41. It’s obviously Charnley, sacking McClaren his him admitting he fecked up royally and surely puts his position in doubt come the Summer. At the end of the day it matters not what the board think if Ashley decides to get rid.

      (Quote)

  42. That Mourinho argument is one I thought of yesterday. Look Jose, this is SBR’s club. It’s desperate for your help. We’ll give you £3m for 10 games. 10 games only! Unless you’re sick of working only for the successful and want a real challenge – bring us out of the Championship!

      (Quote)

  43. @Georgio – I’ll pass on the good feedback to him, going to give him a crash course in wordpress this week so we get him in an amongst the ‘banter’ 😉

      (Quote)

  44. Sharpy…Yeah I know mate, that was more from his perspective. If he sacks him he’s admitting he ****** up, hence why he’ll be the one not wanting him sacked.

      (Quote)

  45. Re that Edwards tweet, it’s obviously Lee, it would be admitting he royally screwed up AGAIN, or possibly Carr as it’s his mate and that bloke has far too much say imo. If he stays the fans need two chants at the matches . McCLAREN OUT AND SACK THE BOARD. 👿

      (Quote)

  46. Ok I have gone in and added Shearers Right Foot as a category under article authors so he can select himself now instead of ‘guest blog’.

      (Quote)

  47. Richie – it’s ridiculous IMO. It doesn’t always work out for managers at clubs – look at Moyes at Man Utd, it was Fergie himself that suggested Moyes. **** happens, but if I were Ashley I’d be more bothered about him not acting now to save the club, than him recruiting Mc in the first place.

      (Quote)

  48. No it doesn’t Sharpy but then there was absolutely nothing in McClaren’s cv to show that it would work out. I believe that Charnley bottled the big decicision, he could have gone for a decent foreign manager with a good record, it would have been a gamble as all appointments are to greater and lesser degreees but he didn’t have the balls, he assumed Schteve would be the save option that would keep us safely in mid table and away from the drop zone. Completely wrong, he’s gotta go with the rest of the yes men, including Moncur and Beardsley.

      (Quote)

  49. So the Chronicle say many at NUFC see no other option but to sack McClaren but Charnley isn’t keen. Meeting going on now to see what they should do! The fact they haven’t made a decision by now speaks volumes.

But can anybody really say they’re surprised?

      (Quote)

  50. If they stick with McClaren then I hope the fan’s turn evil on them in the next home match.

      (Quote)

  51. Mark Douglas said Moyes hasn’t been approached yet! YCMIP but you could when it is NUFC!

      (Quote)

  52. I’m sick of saying this but Carr and Lee choose this fucking loser most Carr. I put Vardy as my captain for the Leicester game because there’s no fucking way McClaren will set the team up against them. Stay calm, we have to go back to training and prepare for our next game or we played magnificent even thou we lost. What an imbecil

      (Quote)

  53. We need the crowd to get behind us. 51,100 fan’s turn up and you couldn’t even be bothered to put on a good show for them. I hope the fan’s turn on you i really fucking do.
