The latest update regarding Newcastle Goalkeeper’s injury

United are expected to today announce that  goalkeeper Rob Elliot will miss the rest of the season as well as the European Championships for the Republic of Ireland.

News filtered through of the 29-year-old’s injury during last night’s set of international friendlies with the Irishman hurting his knee in his Ireland side’s 2-2 draw against Slovakia.

Elliot, who has made more appearances this season for the Magpies than he has compared to the rest of his Newcastle United tenure combined is expected to take no further part in Newcastle’s season.

This certainly comes as a blow to Rafa Benitez’s side with Elliot’s understudy Karl Darlow flattering to deceive in his one substitute appearance for the club this season, a 1-0 defeat to West Brom with his blunder leading to Darren Fletcher’s late winner for the Baggies.

With first choice goalkeeper Tim Krul out for the season following his injury also sustained in international duty for the Netherlands, the club’s woeful injury luck continues to rear its ugly head for Newcastle this season.

  1. But: when the same amount of money is given to some Banker or Railway Boss fatcat as is being asked to save a community or industry, I object. Even if it is money down the pisser how is that any worse than pissing it away on giving Richard Branson another 2 billion or the ex-Chairman of BT with new broadband contracts on the cheap? Only to retire to their yacht in St Tropez. Is that better use of Government money FFS?

Well he did go to Oxford with Blair and Eton with Cameron yah, so there will be kickbacks down the line. The market economy works for some and not others. The old school tie works for who you know.

  2. We should use British steel for the railways, yes expensive, but will last and look after the businesses and people of the UK

  3. What I was saying is that the Government will gladly subsidize their friends and give them hand outs in the name of bail outs but will not do the same for a basic industry even though it will cost less. It is not like a tapped out mine. Giving your friends from Eton is a gift of billions in terms of monopolies on railways and electricity and is a bigger waste of taxpayers money because it only goes to a few who spend it on Yachts and boring Michelin starred chefs who call gravy sauce. They are all on the gravy train though, but Stuart cannot see that massive subsidies are paid to certain industries in order to compete but not to others. He sees the success stories in the papers but just as many were given money and failed. Because it is a steel worker making not much and being vilified by The Daily (hate) Mail they are wasters when Blair and Cameron have given many more billions to their friends from Oxbridge in the defense industry and nobody seems to know or care. And still the middle east burns.

  4. Oh Yah Henry, let me fix that broadband contract for you since we went to school together. Free market, f@ck that, have your 2 billion and go to the Bahamas in a few years and say Hello to Wills at St Andew’s University will you. Kisses.

  5. Get rid of 15000 jobs and give the profits to Branson and put up the cost of rail travel for all. We can do that. It is not like it is a monopoly or anything !!!! We can all lay new rail road tracks can’t we, or perhaps we can’t. Or electricity lines!!! There wouldn’t be a problem if we just allowed the free market to have 25 overhead lines into the Cotswolds would there? Let’s leave it as a monopoly for our friends and license to print money?

  6. At the turn of the 20th Century the poor turned to gin shops. Now it is cheap Stella and Lotto. We can’t all be like Stuart and get ahead on good looks and smarts. Sometimes the man and government just grinds you down. We cannot all turn water into wine, sometimes when you try that it turns into **** and people condescend to you for trying. Or wondering why a whole community should not fail and should be given a fighting chance for the future.

  7. Oh, and the basic material for steel comes from Brasil and Australia (iron ore). It doesn’t cost that much more to ship to China as it does to the UK. Maybe a $ a tonne.

Overcapacity is a different thing but that always happens with commodities. It is cyclical and that is why the government should know it is cyclical. Just like oil. Enjoy the cheap petrol because it will not last.

  9. Icedog: if someone, ANYONE, tries to tell me that Trump, Blair, Bush and Trump (again) know what is best for me and that they are not self serving ego-maniacs I will hit back. Stuart makes a hell of a lot of sense on here most of the time but has no heart or soul when it comes to politics and people.

  10. Political ranting allowed on here imo. Why not AMF, afraid of showing your cards? 😀

  12. ERIC I always keep one thing in mind when it comes to politics 98% of those involved in it are out and out crooks and in it for what they can get out of it so I draw my own conclusions on a matter.imo Pardew would be very good at it he cannot lie straight in bed.

See politics and footy in one comment 😆

  13. Well this week-end will become clearer which of the three teams will go down, scum are sure of getting three points against WBA as they will put very little effort in like they did at home against Norwich so if we don’t get three points on Sat I would say our goose is cooked

  14. AMF: you misunderstand me sometimes. My favourite cricketer is Shane Warne (2nd is McGrath, 3rd is Dennis Lillee, 4th Michael Holding (outlier) and 5th Brett Lee). My favourite commentator is Richie Benaud and I cannot for the life of me understand how Bradman Averaged 99 runs, averaged. I hit fcn 100 twice in my life.

  15. Ice: nobody really disagrees with me on politics and steel mills. Not even Shamrock really. Maybe Stuart ?

  16. I was a bowler though 🙂 I took like 9 for 15 and 9 for 10. Still, how can you average 99?

      (Quote)

  17. So, I walk to the crease and think – on average I will score 99 runs. And I am 5 foot 6. That would just be amazing.

  18. It’s not a cricket blog Eric… I haven’t misunderstood you.. You were obviously exposed to excessive amounts of lead paint as a child and I take that into consideration when conversing with you! 😛

Don’t get upset. I was just having a bit of fun. I did say you talk sense most of the time. And I think you do.

  25. I’m not upset, Eric. I speak sense all the time, Eric. Just sometimes don’t see the wisdom until later.

  26. AMF: Not totally man. I saw Ronnie Dio in Newcastle as front man for Black Sabbath Ozzie with Bizzard of Oz 2 months later.

Saw the THE GREAT Bon Scott in the lasr concert he ever played. It was at the Newcastle Mayfair with Angus on his shoulders. I was 16 and spent all of my money on beer and had to walk 6 miles home. With 5 friends who had also spent all their money on beer 🙂

  27. Nice one… you’ve just earned a little street cred… still a lot of catching up to do tho… 😛

  28. Aus, Man. I will post the Bon Scott youtube clip if I can find it.

He was ACDCs driver and they were looking for a singer. He said “I can sing a bit” and the rest is history.
