“Bring in more Geordies!” says ex-Newcastle United legend

Ex-Newcastle United winger David Ginola has called upon his club to bring in more local talent to help rebuild the club’s shaky foundations.

Whilst speaking to Talk Sport on Alan Brazil’s breakfast show today, the Frenchman talked of his time at the North East club and stated the importance of having local Newcastle lads in and around the dressing room who really know what playing for the Magpies means to the fans and local area.

“Newcastle need stability. There have been too many managers, too many people involved and most of the time wrong people. I think Newcastle need to bring in some very interesting Geordies.

“When I was playing for Newcastle we have three or four Geordie guys in the dressing room, and they made sure we all understood what playing for Newcastle United and living in the city meant. At historic clubs like Newcastle, it’s all about roots. It’s all about tradition.”

Ex-Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville also earmarked a lack of local presence in this interesting video below almost three years ago and after consecutive relegation battles in the Premier League since his remarks, it seems as though not much has changed with Steven Taylor arguably the only ‘homegrown’ player who made the squad for Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend.
