Going into this week’s Monday night match-up between Chelsea and Spurs where Leicester City clinched the Premier League title, Jamie Carragher had his say on how he feels boss Rafa Benitez have changed the way Newcastle United play for the better.
More specifically, the ex-Liverpool man focused on the Magpies’ defending which has improved momentously since the Spaniard took over with two clean sheets to United’s name in their last four matches. With Newcastle United taking on an Aston Villa side who are the lowest scorers in the division, Benitez’s men yet again have another great chance of picking up a clean sheet in a must-win match-up over at Villa Park.

Well I believe. Reckon Rafa will have them well drilled defensively and end of the day our lot should be playing with plenty of fight. Its not just the club that looks bad if we go down but the players too. Relegation would effect most of their careers and pay packets save 5 or 6. Their desire should easily see off Villa. That’s a really good analysis of some changes under Rafa. The bit about Cisse, I’m not so thrilled by, as I think Mitrovic does a better job laying balls off. I think Cisse is there for his ability to do something unexpected and he’s a bit more mobile than Mitrovic. But, hey, who am I to argue the point with Rafa (or Jamie Carragher). I only ever see games on telly.
Anyway, big day today. If we don’t win, we’ll be in the you-know-what. It’s a rare enough occasion when I want EITHER ManU or Chelsea to win; it can’t have been too often an occasion in my life when I’ve wanted BOTH to win on the same day.

As for Benny Boy. It was the right call to cut him loose at the time imo. He was being a lazy sod and he did get fat. I give him credit for taking his wake up call and turning his career around though. It probably helped that his mate Benzema layed into him a bit and said he could have had it all if only he was willing to work for it.
Despite how impressive he has been this season though, I will say it has been in a poor league but still he looks in canny shape and Im sure with the right attitude he can make a real go of being in a side like Barca.
