Once seen as a future Newcastle captain and England international, Taylor has simply failed to fulfil his potential. A career blighted with injury problems saw Taylor’s development severely stunted and he now stands as fourth choice centre half. Recent displays have seen Steven desperately short of confidence and appear totally terrified of playing against anyone with pace.
A rare breed in terms of being a one-club man, there is no doubting his love for Newcastle but unfortunately it looks like time for Taylor to move on. He is out of contract this summer so Newcastle should allow him to leave to find employment elsewhere.
Ideally, of course, we want home grown players to play for Newcastle and prefer to embrace players who have a connection to the club. Taylor though simply isn’t good enough and isn’t going to get any better. Newcastle hope to begin a new era with Lascelles and Mbemba forming an effective central defensive partnership.
