Get Rid: Five Players Newcastle Need to Move on This Summer

  1. Emmanuel Riviere

Emmanuel Riviere

Another transfer flop, Riviere has never really settled at Newcastle as he struggled to cope with the Premiership. A poor first few appearances and difficulty finding the net slashed Riviere’s confidence to shreds. This season saw injury problems further hamper his first team chances as he quickly became someone Newcastle just paid to train.

In all fairness, it hasn’t been all Riviere’s fault. He joined a struggling side and was expected to play as a lone striker in a new, challenging league. He should have been gently guided in, supported and played with a strike partner but Pardew simply threw him in at the deep end with no arm bands in site.

Should the Frenchman stay, some may think Riviere might find the Championship a little more forgiving than the top flight, particularly when Newcastle play at home, where they should make more chances. Benitez has the management skills to get the best out of his players too but in all honesty most Newcastle fans would rather see Mitrovic, Perez, Armstrong and Toney and possibly one other new addition as the forwards for next season.
