In the wake of Rafa committing his long-term future at the club, optimism has rightly crept in over at St James’ Park in recent times. Relegation to the Championship was devastating but the way the players, fans and club officials accounted for themselves in the Magpies’ six game unbeaten run at the back end of the 2015/2016 is only encouraging.
With this in mind, many NUFC aficionados have I guess understandably, touted their club for an immediate return to the top flight at the first attempt. With a world class manager at the helm and easily the league’s strongest fan base, not to mention the struggles of fellow relegated clubs Norwich City and especially Aston Villa, Newcastle are currently the bookies’ favourites to come straight back up.
But for those expecting Newcastle to stroll to victory in every game (especially with the season still two months away), I say, please manage your expectations. With the ‘trickle down’ effect from the Premier League’s vast wads of TV money only making the English second tier stronger, many clubs such as Villa, Norwich, Derby (who have just appointed Nigel Pearson), Sheffield Wednesday et al will also be ‘there or there abouts’ come the end of the 2016/2017 campaign.
With a summer ahead of club and transfer speculation as well as the European Championships in France, all we can do for now is sit back, relax and hope Rafa’s men start the new season in the right frame of mind.
Eric Sykes, whats that bud, have you been saying bad things about me and I missed it ? Don’t worry mate, I know where youre coming from everythings cool
Munich Mag(Quote)
Must say I’m extremely unmotivated for the forthcoming Championship season.. All the top managers descending on the Prem, zillions and zillions of pounds doing the rounds, lots of nice hype and catchy music and stuff being boomed out by Sky and were dolloping around in the Championship… pas bon…
Plus the bundesliga has lost Pep….
ho hum…
Munich Mag(Quote)
cant blame collocini, the croutons at the club just kept hoying money at him, and despite his love and admiration for san lorenzo he obviously wasnt willing to lose out on the big money agreed in his contract. were talking about millions of euros, if someone offered you a contract extension with millions of euros to sit on the bench youd be tempted. better than picking up nowt at san lorenzo.
on his day collo was good in a sea of toon mediocrcy… two relegations on his cv says it all.
Munich Mag(Quote)
Why do we keep getting new threads that do not allow comments? What’s the point of that?
Dubai Toon(Quote)
Is this the right thread to be on or what then?
Kimtoon(Quote)
Anyway, Welcome to the land of big fish Leicester, now you’ll see all your best players get tempted away. Arsenal trigger Vardy’s release clause, question is will he or won’t he jump ship?
Kimtoon(Quote)
RIP Ali, a great fighter in and out the ring.
Kimtoon(Quote)
Indeed Kim 🙁
richietoon(Quote)
MM: I have been trying to tell people that NUFC will have to pay up Coloccini’s contract, or most of it. He is guaranteed 3 million quid this year and will not walk away from that. The club have to decide whether they want to bite the bullet or let him wander around the training ground with a face like a slapped ****. Remember they paid up Barton’s contract for that reason.
He also has an extension clause after this year. I am not absolutely sure of the details but I think it is based on games played. Curly has the club by the short and curlies.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Eric, I think Colo will go, can’t see him fancying a year in the fizzy tbh, reckon they will reach a mutual parting of the ways. He’ll get well rewarded but I doubt he’ll be fully paid up.
Kimtoon(Quote)
He’s made so much money out of us he should just walk. Multi multi millionaire go and play for San Lorenzo for free.
Georgio(Quote)
Georgio..Exactly, if he loves them so much…he has more money than he’ll ever spend!
richietoon(Quote)
RICHIE good to see you on the blog mate, you must have took time out from spending all that money you have it’s alright for some 😆 😆
Icedog(Quote)
Ice…cheers…I don’t know what to do with it all 😆
richietoon(Quote)
Icedog, Richietoons nose is all scarrred from scratching on the bedroom ceiling, he’s got that much spondoolicks under the mattress… 😎
Not as much as Collo though 🙂
Two stubborn parties playing hard ball…. Collo who was serenaded and sweet talked into signing a new contract, plus a proposed extension (probably at his request), despite the majority of the fans recognising that he was on his way out… Hats off to the croutons at the toon who pulled off that master stroke… and “the club” …Charnley, Grin Reaper ?…. who took Ashley’s spondoolicks on that doolally path…instead of perhaps buying a centre floorboard or extending Aarons contract…or building an Academy Building…. or whatever….
Rafa doesn’t know what he has let himself in for….
By the way, where does the coaches loyalties lie, in looking after the clubs money, or helping to get his purported best mates or favourites lucrative deals ? Cos if I know if my “coach”, who was performing relatively pishfully, came to me and asked me to renegotiate a contract for our ageing centre half…would I listen ? Tricky one really…unless the decision makers haddent a clue of course, then it all makes sense ..
Munich Mag(Quote)
Looking really forward to Rafa’s first appearance at the Fans Forum. Now that really will be a fun event !!
Munich Mag(Quote)
MM I know Richie has a fine head of hair,he keeps it under the bed 😆
Icedog(Quote)
So ERICs mate has finally got a job

Icedog(Quote)
Cheers Ice: He can now work full time on his suntan. I will have to decide whether he looks like a pickled walnut with hair or a raisin with hair. Anyway, as long as he stays away from NUFC I am happy for him.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Actually, he will look even more like a pickled walnut as he massages that factor 1 suntan cream into his face and the wrinkles get a deeper ebony.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Eric, how’s the anger management therapy going bonny lad ? 😉
Munich Mag(Quote)
MM: Good, man. Rafa has done wonders for my Kaiserschmarnngerfaartshaft syndrome. You been to the Waldwirtshaft lately?
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Not a bad gig for Ugly John.

Eric Sykes(Quote)
Good to hear it Eric lad… I wouldn’t wish Kaiserschmarnngerfaartshaft syndrome on my worst enemy… Good luck…
Naah mate, been out and about abroad a lot recently, looking forward to the summer in Minga now…a cycle trip to the WaWi is on the cards though…
Munich Mag(Quote)
Good picture of him in the above post though. Last year when I told me Mam he was 50 she almost fell over. She said she thought he was at least 65 – and why does he look like a pickled walnut with hair? I have to text her now and say he is going out in the sun for 10 hours a day to really set that look.

Brilliant 😆
Munich Mag(Quote)
Don’t forget your SPF 1 Ugly John!!! I know I already said that 🙂
Eric Sykes(Quote)
MM: that is a brilliant Michael Owen. He just Rio to be falling asleep and it would be complete.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Ha, love it 😆
Kimtoon(Quote)
Aye, this SPF 1 works great like. I thought I was getting a few wrinkles there with the cocoa butter I was using on me face like, but now I can get an all over tan with no risk.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
This is not good. Johnny C. off to Cyprus? Who’s going to do the perm on Steve McTosser’s tufty now? Absolutely unacceptable
GeordieTwo(Quote)
How could we let such a brilliant coiffer of hair go off to Cyprus? I mean this man is a genius with comb and scissors. Something’s got to be done!!! And who’s going to run the spa while Johnny C. is away? The whole operation could implode!
GeordieTwo(Quote)
Was that really the last comment 5 hours ago or is there posting on a new thread?
Simon(Quote)
Typical.
John Carver, a loyal servant and fan of the toon, still gets berated by Psychs.
Carver, who was left with a bunch of mercenaries who wouldnt play for McClaren and even Benitez couldn’t get them to win against sunken Villa.
But Psychs just blames Carver cos allegedly he’s ugly.
YCMIU
Troy Stavers(Quote)
Anyway. Good to see my mate Clarky saved Killie.
Great appointment by the Scottish Premier League club.
He did what they asked of him and did it with style on the final play off game.
Not bad considering Psychs and others wrote him off.
Troy Stavers(Quote)
Is he ever right? 🙄
Don’t worry, you’re not alone on here, eh, Gashley.
Two peas in a pod. 😯
Troy Stavers(Quote)
Happy fishing Troy…
Aussie Magpie Fan(Quote)
Actually troy. I never wrote him off for Killy, prove it… I wrote him off for the Toon 😉 and I still stand by it.
I said we need someone decent to take over & move away from the mediocre ***** you seemed pleased to support every week…you wanted Pardew doing it for the next 6 years
I said Rafa when you were shouting for Clarky, El Tel and Hoddle 😛 You said relegation would be a disaster and people that thought otherwise were totally clueless 😳
You ended up flapping about, pointing your finger as if the bloggers were to blame.. as always, popping you cork prematurely whilst I remained calm and saw the bigger picture 😎
We’ll see at the end of next season who was clueless… El Tel..pmsl 😛 😛 😛
Gashley(Quote)
Aussie.
I enjoy troys fishing. its very childlike and easy to defend against. like playing footy against two toddlers.. 😛
Ive noticed, if you ask him to prove anything he doesn’t mention it again and disappears
Gashley(Quote)
but yes. congrats to Clarky. well pleased for him.
Gashley(Quote)
I never wrote Lee Clark off for Kilmarnock either. He started with them second from bottom and finished with them second from bottom. Kept them up by beating the team from the lower division. Good for him. And good for us because I would never have even thought of his name as a choice for us if TROY hadn’t have brought it up.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Troy “allegedly” Carvs is ugly? That’s a fact.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
I actually understood the concept of Colo mentoring MBemba and Lascelles but it didn’t work out.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
AMF is back. Must be no Paul Hogan reruns on Channel 9.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
some goalscorer Wijnaldum like.
Koemann will spend 20 mill and take him to Evrton.
The toon have chosen the worst time in Premier League history to get relegated, massive amounts of money to be had, Pep, Ibrahimavich, Aubameyang and a whole series of superstars will be gracing the premier league…and were out of it. what a disaster. the more you think about it the more pathetic it is. especially the croutons at the toon who presided over it…including the cheaters in the playing staff…
if we come back up we’ll be light years behind the big clubs, slugging it out in the bottom 6 as usual…
Munich Mag(Quote)
if it werent for the bloggers on here winding each other up, there would be no crack anyway…
typical close-season lull..plus the fact that a lot of posters probably have had their fill of the mickey mouse club..
looking forward to the euros, burton albion, bristol city etc can all wait…
Munich Mag(Quote)
why have – charnley/carr/moncur/beardsley – not been sacked yet?
it’s scandalous they are still on the payroll.
roy cropper(Quote)
ROY a couple with go for sure mate it’s Rafa is working on getting a new partner settled and incoming transfers and which players are staying, then he will start swinging the axe Imo like
Icedog(Quote)
They’re not going to sack themselves Roy 😆
Georgio(Quote)
Charnley will stay and be on the board. I think Moncur will remain on the board to make up the numbers (I think you have to have a minimum number of board members) The rest will be sacked before the season begins.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Mark, Troy is like the guy at work that everybody thinks is a loser and you can’t help but feel you have to be nice to him because no else is! 😆 😆
Aussie Magpie Fan(Quote)
Moncur, in his naievty and love for the club chained is cart to the wrong horse. He has toon legend status as ex toon captain, fairs cup winner, adopted geordie etc etc. He should be cut some slack imo.. he’s been there and done it and bought the tee shirt, he has nowt to rove. His big mistake has been in trying to defend the absolutely gash decisions being made at his and our club.. The chronicle have also given him enough rope to hang himself, some of the articles coming out of the local press are shameful to say the least. …
Munich Mag(Quote)
oops “nowt to prove”…
Munich Mag(Quote)
Just been watching Soccer Aid – I’d still take Ronaldinho like!!!.
He isn’t going to track back, but the magic hasn’t gone at all. He wouldn’t play every game, but he’d one hell of an impact sub.
Sharpy17(Quote)
Sharpe yeah he has still got a bit left , it was good craic
Big Dave(Quote)
Am I the only one that thinks Arsenal are completely mental to offer a 29 year old James Vardy a 4 year contract on much higher wages than he currently earns? His form is up and down from one year to the next and he is about to enter the years typically seen as the wrong side of a footballers peak. When his main strength is pace giving him a 4 year contract at his age is a massive gamble, no?
I wonder if he will jump ship considering only in the last fortnight he bluntly told the press he has just won the PL, is going to play in in the Championship League and is happy where he is having only just signed a new contract? An interesting scenario.
Shamrock(Quote)
Dave – it was canny craic & nearly £5.5m is excellent going really.
Mind fat Sam has bought into his celebrity status hasn’t he?! 😯
Sharpy17(Quote)
Just read on Ed’s that Cisse scored 3 goals in 21 appearances. I thought he didn’t play well but that confirms it and he should go.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Where’s Eric?
Stuart79(Quote)
I agree Sham, think a lot of silly money is gonna get spent in the PL. That’s ok, a lot of clubs won’t have a great deal to show for all their cash by the time greedy agents and avaricious mercenaries have signed on.
Kimtoon(Quote)
I think you could well be right Kim. Money going to be spent for the sake of it this year.
Shamrock(Quote)
Talk is we are looking to bring Bamford in at 10 mil I hope not really he didn’t do great at M/bro in the ccc plus it’s would push Armstrong down the pecking order.
Pardew looking to sign Townsend hope not anybody but him if he wants to go
Icedog(Quote)
Chaps and Chappettes – this is still the right thread. If you’re ever confused as to what thread you should be on, just go to the home page. We have some news stories that disable comments to keep discussion on the main threads – will put out an info page later to keep everyone in the loop.
I don’t know if anyone saw the ‘leaked’ Championship fixtures this weekend but it turns out they were fake anyway 🙂
Andy The Magpie(Quote)
How many of them were off the bench though?
Andy The Magpie(Quote)
Goals or appearances Andy?
I agree with Eric though. For me, he never plays well. He’s still like a child learning to control a football. Shocking really that he’s made it as a pro footballer. Really really hope we get rid.
Georgio(Quote)
Sorry the appearances.
Yeah I do agree, just wanted clarification. Can’t believe he’s the same player that ripped the league apart under Pardew in his first season.
Andy The Magpie(Quote)
Will be fuming if Pards gets Townsend 😡
Kimtoon(Quote)
Andy the Magpie – 3
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Kimtoon: I will be a little bit miffed as well 🙂
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Can’t believe Townsend will go to Palace. What sort of career move is that? Better staying with us for a year and then get back to the PL and go from there.

Andy The Magpie(Quote)
The club have to let Colo go and pay up his contract.
This will allow us an extra place in the squad, if he doesn’t go we can’t add to our squad.
Too many deadbeats, Rafa will sort it out, of that I have no doubt.
