Crystal Palace attacker on Newcastle’s radar

Crystal Palace attacker Dwight Gayle is reportedly being given the chance to sign for Newcastle United this summer after the 26-year-old failed to get first team football assurances from Palace boss Alan Pardew.

Gayle, who has netted 15 Premier League goals for the Eagles after they got promoted to the top flight in 2013, has fallen back in the pecking order at Selhurst Park with the emergence of exciting attackers such as Yannick Bolasie and Jason Puncheon.

Despite a perhaps underwhelming goal tally at the South East London club, Gayle’s experience in the lower echelons of football would stand him in good stead should he arrive at St James’ Park this summer. Hailing from the English capital itself, the winger unfortunately didn’t make it into Coral’s best Greater London XI in which the company produced the best teams of players from each of England’s 48 counties recently.

With rumours rife that both Andros Townsend and Georginio Wijnaldum could be on their way to indeed Palace and Everton respectively, Gayle could prove to be a useful acquisition for Rafa Benitez as the Magpies strive to get promoted back into the top flight at the first attempt next season.
