Newcastle United planning a shock swoop for former England international

Peter Crouch

Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Stoke City striker Peter Crouch, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.

Newcastle United have managed a bit of a coup by securing the services of Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace this summer and the striker is widely expected to take the Championship by storm during the upcoming campaign.

In addition to Gayle, the presence of Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Adam Armstrong means that Newcastle are currently armed with arguably the best attacking lineup in the Championship.

Despite boasting such firepower though, Benitez still seems to be in the market to sign a new striker and now according to surprise reports from the Daily Mirror, claims have been made that the Spaniard is currently considering a move for Stoke City striker Peter Crouch.

Crouch struggled for regular first team football at Stoke last season and is widely expected to be leaving the Britannia Stadium this summer as a result.

A move to the Championship has been seen as a real possibility for Crouch and Benitez is believed to be keen on a reunion with the former Liverpool striker at St. James’ Park.
