Florian Thauvin is on his way out of St James Park according to Chronicle Live.
The Frenchman was hugely unimpressive on joining from Marseille in 2015 and rejoined the French club on loan in January. Now, Rafa Benitez has cleared the way for Thauvin to leave on a permanent basis.
Marseille though are at the moment only interested in a loan deal and came close to losing their football licence from the French authorities due to financial difficulties. The sale of Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea solved those problems but they don’t have the cash to spend on Thauvin.
Lazio are also rumoured to be interested in signing the winger with new boss Marcelo Bielsa keen to reunite with the French player. The pair were in Marseille together and Bielsa was a huge influence on Thuavin’s career.
Whichever option is chosen, his spell on Tyneside seems over and there’s no other way to call it: he was a monumental waste of cash.
