Following protracted negotiations, Newcastle United were finally able to capture the signature of long time target Grant Hanley from Blackburn Rovers recently – in a deal worth around £5.5 million.
The capture of Hanley is certainly a huge boost for Newcastle and the Magpies now look very well equipped to earn promotion into the Premier League this season.
Despite the signing of Hanley though, manager Rafael Benitez is seemingly still in the market to recruit a new defender and now according to reports from the Sun, revelations can be made that the Spaniard is plotting a move for Alfie Mawson.
Mawson is currently plying his trade for Barnsley and he played a crucial role in helping the Tykes earn promotion into the Championship last season, making 58 appearances in all competitions.
As a result, Mawson has been able to attract the interest from a number of clubs and Newcastle are now said to be planning a swoop for the 22-year-old.
