Transfer News: 5 players Newcastle United have been linked to this week

Newcastle have had a bid rejected for Brighton winger Anthony Knockaert and could go back in for the winger. Knockaert only joined Brighton in January 2016 but impressed during his half season in the Championship. The Frenchman spent three seasons at Leicester City before moving to Belgian side Standard Liege in 2015. The former France U21 impressed for Brighton, scoring 5 goals in his 16 Championship matches for the club.

The bid for Knockaert was around £6 million but Brighton are in no rush to sell the player and apparently want upwards of £10 million for the winger. Knockaert would undoubtedly be a good signing and has thrived at Championship level in the past but Newcastle fans will be hoping he doesn’t take penalties. When at Leicester City, it was Knockaert who missed a crucial spot-kick against Watford in the 2013 playoff semi-final. It was the 96th minute and all Knockaert had to do was knock the penalty home and his side was in the final. He missed the penalty and the rebound, only to watch Watford run up the other end and score to progress to Wembley.
