Newcastle United on the verge of completing another major signing

Newcastle United close to securing the services of Ciaran Clark from Aston Villa after the Magpies activated the defender’s £5 million release clause, according to reports from Sky Sports.

Despite the arrivals of Grant Hanley and Isaac Hayden this summer, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez had recently been scouring the transfer market in his pursuit to sign a new defender and the Spaniard seems to have finally got his man in the form of Aston Villa star Ciaran Clark.

According to reports from Sky Sports, Newcastle have activated Clark’s £5 million release clause at Villa and the Magpies are currently in discussions with the defender over a prospective move in the coming days.

Clark started his career at Villa Park and the 26-year-old has amassed well over 150 appearances for the Midlands based outfit since making his debut back in the summer of 2009.

Given his vast experience in the Premier League, Clark could well prove to be a very good addition to the Newcastle squad but the loss of the Republic of Ireland international will surely be felt by Villa.
