  1. CC, I put Taylor in only cause of how long he’d been with us like, I figured he might of managed 10

  2. Good stuff. Cheers for the thread. Got 21. Forgot Bellamy, Martin’s and even worse – Perez haha

  3. Funny how the much maligned Cisse is actually one of our best forwards in recent times too.

Only 3 people are signed up to the fantasy footy H2H league and only 10 on Aussie’s cumulative points one. Think it won’t be a runner this season.

  5. David Edgar had his debut with the Whitecaps on the weekend. He was horrible. Gave the ball away several times and played hoofball the whole match. They lost again 2-0 away to Colorado.

  6. Seems j jenas has identified what a few of us have been saying. There isn’t enough goals in the team.

I wonder if rafa feels the same?

  7. I see Hamburg are interested in Riviere – isn’t that the club that Lasogga plays for? – wonder if Carr runs through his scouting report with Rafa – possible trade off?.

Bentnar still without a club ? – I’m not saying we should take him, just surprised nobody has take him on yet.

  8. Cisse was a 1 in 3 striker for us even with all the horrible matches he played for us Kimtoon lass. That first half season was most of it though. 13 in his first 14. One of the best starts ever by a striker for us. How many did the striker quiz without cheating and looking it up mates? 😀

      (Quote)

  9. Hamburg are interested in Rivi as their new tea lady Sharpy mate. They want their tea quickly served while still hot. He’s just the man for it!

  10. Did anyone include Rivi in their list of top 31 strikers? Well they shouldn’t have…..

He is only 28. Full of self importance and has ruined his career. His contract with Wolfsburg was cancelled a year early. In the last 3 years he had played 40 league games in Italy and Germany, scoring only 3 goals and chipping in with zero assists. 😳

  12. Did terribly Kimtoon lass. I timed out while thinking. And I don’t know the teams of the late 90’s very well. Got 11 😳

  13. I think I would do better with the all-time top scorers list. I know quite a few of the old time scorers from listening to my dad.

      (Quote)

  14. That list really drops off in goals after Shearer doesn’t it? Quite sad. And who will be the next great Newcastle goal scorer? Most of them come to us too late in their careers or would be snatched up if young.

Sham – he still probably has a good 3-4yrs left of his career. Could he turn it round like Benny did – though I know he is different.
He’d be a good player with his head screwed on, but I don’t think we are in a position to gamble on him.

Ice – I think Klopp wants rid of Balotelli & Benteke & would likely keep Ings with Sturridge & Origi.
It’s a shame like coz I think Ings would be great for us.

What about Bamford mate? He’s still young, but has 60 championship app with about 25 goals – not a terrible return, but strange why nobody has taken him yet – even on loan.

  20. How about Benteke for Sissoko plus some cash? Just to let them know we’re serious…..

theres a few clubs sniffed around him but never followed through even Boro never went back in for him,is there somthing not right with him???

      (Quote)

  22. I don’t think we should be sniffing around anybody. We should be forking out and buying a proper striker like Benteke. Why this lack of motivation from the club to get a proper goal scorer in? It reminds me of the years and years we spent not bringing in a proper CB.

      (Quote)

  23. Unbelievable. Desperately need goals yet muck about not buying…. Fiddle on underbidding for decent players and letting all of them go elsewhere. Then we can’t score because Mitro is a hot head….. Harrumph!!!

      (Quote)

  24. Bamford looks like a stay away to me. Two unsuccessful loan spells in the last two seasons. It smells a lot like attitude problems to me.

  25. Maybe forget Danny Osvaldo. He seems to have attitude problems as well. He hasn’t scored well since his Roma days either. 🙁

  28. I think any director of football would be absolutely insane to spend 20 million + on Sissoko in a “moneyball” era when all of the statistics are dissected and readily available. Here is an attacking midfielder who had 1 goal and 5 assists last year. He supposedly had a great Euros but how many shots on target did he have, 1? And I think he had an assist to Payet but that was doubtful as I think it was a mishit intended for another player.

His career at NUFC has been a classic story of underachievement and no end product. He has 11 goals in 4 years. Compare that to Gini with 11 in one season and no wonder he went first, even though he also was inconsistent. Similarly, Ayew just went for 20 million and he had dry patches but still managed 12 goals in 34 games.

Statistics aren’t everything and Sissoko has played in some bad teams under some VERY bad managers. But in Sissoko’s case I think the stats would give a DoF pause for thought to spend the sort of money NUFC are asking. Talking his way out of NUFC may actually be his best bet because his numbers do not add up to the fee.

      (Quote)

  29. Eric good points. I think at some stage this week I will do a co.ete stats breakdown of Sissy versus 3 other AMs from the PL last season and see how he compares.

Yes he had poor teammates but if he’s a good player he should still stand out. Any recommendations of players to compare him again t are welcome. Will publish the story by Friday.

      (Quote)

  30. Sham: Ayew and Siggurdson for a start. Payet, who West Ham are asking stupid money for but who did not cost a lot. Coutinho at Liverpool who were a team in transition and finished 8th. I don’t think it is fair to compare Sissoko to others in top teams but if you disagree you could look at Ramsey or Erikson. How about Bolasie, although I am not sure he played enough?

      (Quote)

  31. Sham: I am also wondering who this big centre forward who can guarantee goals would be. Nobody has suggested anybody. You and I suggested Walters but who else? Even from Spain or Italy we have not seen any names.

      (Quote)

  32. Sham: just saw Everton bid 18 million for Bolasie and Palace want 28 mil. I think him and Ayew are an obvious place to start in your comparison with Sissoko.

      (Quote)

  33. I’m thinking Wijnaldum, Sigurdson, Erikson and Alli. All outside the usual and all primarily playing from the middle. Maybe Mane instead of Alli just to spread it across more teams but Mane plays of the left mostly. I suppose you could argue Sissy played a fair bit in the right?

  34. Eric Sykes:
Sham: I am also wondering who this big centre forward who can guarantee goals would be. Nobody has suggested anybody. You and I suggested Walters but who else? Even from Spain or Italy we have not seen any names.

Really don’t m know mate. Trouble with a foreign import is you don’t know how they will take to local Ale. At least you k ow what a ‘local’ can stomach. There are not many hard core drill let’s drifting about like your Walters and Carroll’s…

      (Quote)

  35. Sham: I think Coutihno is a direct comparison with Sissoko – Attacking midfielder who plays out wide and in the middle. Not classed as a goalscorer but can chip in with a few. Not top 6 team (yet).

      (Quote)

  36. Are the rumours true and is Saivet on his way back to France? Exactly what happened with this player? Could both McMuffin and Rafa see he was no use even though he hardly played for us? If so that’s shocking. Like Nacho Gonzalez. Another YouTube pickup Graham?

      (Quote)

  37. I don’t really think left or right footed matters that much as there doesn’t really seem to be a premium paid for left footers even though there are fewer of them.

      (Quote)

  38. Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Sigurdson, Alli versus Sissoko. Find out where he stands against that lot. What do you reckon?

      (Quote)

  39. Why don’t they ask Carr to step down i.e. retire? He’s the right age to walk away. Let Rafa bring in a head scout. We’ve had a shocking number of failures over the last 5 years or so. I made a list that I posted on here of some of the complete flops we’ve had in over recent seasons. It just isn’t acceptable if we want to succeed.

      (Quote)

  40. G2: what I read was that Saivet was brought forward from a summer transfer because Carr was told in January that there were other teams that were after him. He might end up being another one like Cabella and Thauvin who we really shouldn’t care about because they played so little we couldn’t evaluate them. If we get close to our money back you may as well look at it as if they were never here and move on.

      (Quote)

  41. G2 I thought the Wally had an equal say in transfers last season, hence why he was on the ‘board’?

Weird thing is, Saivet has looked alright when I have seen him play. Very strange goings on. I reckon there have been a few favors done in recent seasons to get other transfers ‘over the line’s, as Pardeu would like to say.

      (Quote)

  42. Sham: Alli is thought of so highly at his age that I think you might be accused of picking someone who is in a different league to Sissoko. Erikson is probably in the same price bracket, although I think he should be higher.

We are being unrealistic with Sissoko’s value after 1 good tournament. I am sure your comparison will show this.

      (Quote)

  43. None of it makes sense to me Shamrock and Eric. Bringing him in was a complete waste of time. And was Cabella given enough time to bed in or did he just want out? Now we have the complete mess of Sissoko hanging over the club. It goes on and on. I think it smells of incompetence from both Carr and Charnley. I wonder if Rafa is beginning to suspect the same. He’s rapidly trying to clear the decks of all this previous rubbish. How many others will go? I’m betting quite a few over the next year or so. Sammiobi, Bigi, Rivi, Vuckic, Good to name a few.

      (Quote)

  44. Has YouTube been our major recruiting tool over the last 9 years? After all Mike reckons it’s the cheapest way to see good players.

      (Quote)

  45. If we peg Sissoko’s value at 25 mil who would want him and who could afford him? He sees himself as a Champions League player but his stats do not back that up. He did OK at the Euros and that has been known to get teams to overpay. I don’t think it has ever worked out though.

There have been links with Liverpool, Juve, PSG and Arsenal but would any of these teams want him? I doubt it, but I do think he would be a good fit with Arsenal, mainly because he has a good injury record and they have many other players who flatter to deceive like Wilshere. It is difficult to see him getting many games at any of the others.

So now we come to the teams that he may consider if he gets desperate on August 30th. Palace to reunite with Pards and Everton and West Brom because they have new investors. He might convince himself that these are really Champions League teams in the making if he is desperate not to play in The Championship.

For various reasons – his ego, NUFC’s asking price, unrealistic assessment of who is interested – I am not so sure that Sissoko will be easy to shift. I hope I am wrong as he has pissed off quite a few fans and Gibbo is now stirring the pot.

  47. I hope Rafa isn’t gambling on Mitro being available for most of the season and being our main man…

It’s strange our buying got off to a flyer, purchasing 4defenders, 3midfielders but only Gayle upfront? If we leave it too late we might find ourselves mid-table after 7-10games.

Why else is it taking so long. Do we need to sell Sissoko first???
Mitro will be decent in this division but also unreliable due to his discipline problems

      (Quote)

  48. Who is doing the **** stirring about Sissoko training on his own? It is probably most likely that he is not up to the fitness levels of the rest of the team as he had a month off. Maybe he has been given a bit of a dressing down for opening his gob AGAIN to the press, but the fact that he is not with the reserves shows he is still in the first team picture until he is sold.

I am not sure if he should start though as his monetary value is probably too high to risk. If Rafa really does value him highly, maybe he should be on the bench in case we struggle on the weekend?

I am sure there will be plenty more to come from the likes of Gibbo who started at the Chronicle as a young **** stirrer 50 years ago and continues as an extra from the Living Dead **** stirrer.

  51. I wonder if Pogba will live up to the hype. I watched him quite a few times for Juve and he is a good player and even a match winner sometimes. He didn’t seem in the same bracket as Messi, Ronaldo, Bale or Suarez though. Just glad it is over and we can look forward to Lukaku at 75 million.
